    October 29, 2025; Crispy Chicken Sandwich ($18).
    Matteo R.

The Castello Plan has become a cherished annual tradition for my family. We always stop in after visiting the nearby Ditmas Park Halloween House[1], and it's the perfect way to end our neighborhood adventure. What I love most is the genuine neighborhood warmth. The salvaged wood interior and candlelit ambiance create this inviting space that feels both historic and lived-in. It's cozy enough for a relaxed family dinner but still feels special. We've worked our way through quite a bit of the menu over the years. The mushroom tagliatelle is rich and satisfying, the crispy chicken sandwich hits the spot, and the charred orange cauliflower couscous topped with smoked salmon is a real standout--beautifully balanced. The pan-fried okra and fried shrimp are great for sharing, and the rainbow beet salad adds a nice fresh note. I also appreciate how kid-friendly they are without dumbing anything down. My kids are happy with their chicken poppers and quesadilla while we enjoy the more adventurous stuff. The place is named after Jacques Cortelyou's famous 17th-century map of Manhattan, and somehow that history feels present without being gimmicky. It's just a really solid neighborhood spot that makes you appreciate Ditmas Park. Cortelyou Road has a lot to offer; The Castello Plan is a great option to grab a tasty bite while exploring the neighborhood. Extra point for a killer music selection the night we visited, featuring Foo Fighters, David Bowie, Queen, Dire Straits, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Simple Minds, Eric Clapton, and more! ------------------------------- [1] https://www.yelp.com/biz/ditmas-park-halloween-house-brooklyn

Really like the vibe of this place. Very neighborhoody, with great food, ample bar, coffee menu, and friendly service. My dining companion and I both had the burgers and we could not say enough about them. Side salad, pickles, chive aioli were all nice additions. Place filled up quickly on a Thursday night--and yes, it's small and noisy but that's part of the charm. Cortelyou Road's still jumpin.

Excellent spot for a nice meal with great music playing in the background. Get a resi. Place is tiny and they do have outdoor dining. Wouldn't recommend a large group because it is too small. Food was delicious. We did dinner but would love to brunch their too.

    Steak and eggs, French toast

Nice spot for brunch! The espresso martini was delicious with a touch of baileys. The steak and eggs were tasty, but the potato latke was a little too stiff and cold. The overall service was great. I recommend this place if you want a quick bite on a Saturday or Sunday morning!

Kind of small and intimate dining situation with small room to move in between tables, especially when everyone brings coats. Service was okay-it was pretty busy but we had to ask twice for bottles of water when we were just seated too. Drinks are strong and delicious! I tried a couple but think my favorite was probably honeybee. The burger was well done and cooked as requested, fries were fresh and crunchy!

Still a good place for indoor brunch but be wary of ordering online for pickup. Because i had work to do in the house and castello is relatively close by and they have potato latkes, I decided to do a pickup order through the page provided on their website and not through Uber eats or similar. Put in my order at 11:10 approx and I received a text that my order was inputted and I would be notified when it was ready plus the order status on the phone page. It was an hour and a half later when there was no movement on the text nor the status page (no phone calls either). So I decided to go and see by chance if the place was busy or something went wrong. I arrived and it took a while for someone at the bar to ask what I needed. Turns out my order was there but they didn't input it that it was ready. As a result, the food was well cold. I did expect it to be slightly cold by the time I got home but not when I picked up the order Even now, the order status still is stuck on " accepted by staff." Now the food is still good and I would go back but if you were to do pickup, I would probably call in, head inside or use a third party instead

This place truly makes you feel at home, like everyone knows you and you are truly welcomed. The service was superb, everyone said hello to us as we walked in and they were so accommodating. Our server gave us great drink recommendations and they were by far the MOST delicious drinks we've had in ages! They truly hit the spot! Our chicken dinner was superb, very flavorful and filling and the atmosphere was lovely to boot. Will absolutely be back to this cozy and tasty nook in Brooklyn.

So I've come out of the cold....starting to snow and I figure delaying going home is a smart move. I'm told to sit wherever I want. I find a nice table near the front door. It may be a mistake with people coming in, letting in the cold air, but I'm fine. A young man named Gabriel, promptly comes over with a menu. He's back in a few, and I ask him to recommend a red wine. Not surprised, his favorite is a 2020 Paradosso D'Abruzzo Montepuchiano at $10 a glass After a few minutes a young woman comes over and takes my order. I go with an endive salad with red and yellow endive, arugula, candied walnuts, Gorgonzola with a citrus vinaigrette The salad is huge and I dig in to an amazing creation. Just the combination of flavors especially the candied walnuts are so satisfying. This salad is huge and I'm thinking it needs to be wrapped up My main course, is uncharacteristically, a grass/fed beef burger. It comes and I'm like...WOW! Delicious. The beef is medium fine with cheddar red onions and tomato on a brioche bun. I crazily ordered salad with it! Just after I couldn't eat the endive salad. No biggie.. Gabriel is happy to bring over a side of fries. Which are crisp and not at all greasy This meal so far has been a blast. Just so satisfying! This place has earned those 4 stars.

I ordered the croissant sandwich, and added bacon. Delish!

This place is my favorite brunch spot in the neighborhood. I've never gone and the food has not been delicious!

The white wine mushroom dish, artichoke crostini, truffle fries, and apple cider drink all BOMB . Just as amazing as the food and drinks are the super friendly staff with their amazing southern accents and fun country music

Every time I come here for drinks at night, I am shocked by how there are only a few others as I'd expect it to be a lot more crowded given the lovely ambiance and quality of cocktails. The Castello Plan is by far my favorite spot for drinks in the area. Such an amazing spot definitely deserves more attention. But I do love that it tends not to be crowded because it feels really intimate and cozy. They have a good weekend brunch menu as well. I've tried their chicken and waffles (topped with strawberries) as well as their crab Benedict. I wasn't super impressed by the crab Benedict and it didn't come with that much crab, but I would recommend the chicken and waffles. If you opt for their bottomless brunch deal, they serve a greater variety of drinks than other places that do bottomless and it is definitely worth the price. I've been here several times so far and know I'll be coming back again and again. Taste | 4.5 Atmosphere | 5 Presentation | 4.5 Service | 4.5 OVERALL | 5

Unfortunately, our most recent visit was the complete opposite. We arrived right when they opened, sat at the bar, and ended up spending around $200. Once the bar got busy, it felt like we were completely forgotten. After finishing our drinks, we waited about 40 minutes trying to order another round. When we finally got the bartender's attention, instead of acknowledging the wait or apologizing, he simply told us he had "many drinks before us." We waited another 30 minutes before deciding to just ask for the check. There was no apology for the delay, no "thank you," and no goodbye after we'd spent a significant amount of money. He handed us the check and walked away as if he couldn't have cared less. It also seemed like he was the only person behind the bar who knew how to make the cocktails, which created a bottleneck all night. That's an operational issue, but unfortunately it was made much worse by the lack of customer service. We know this place is capable of providing a great experience because we've had it twice before. Hopefully this was just an off night, but based on this visit, we'd definitely think twice before returning.
