a plate of food on a table

Excellent high quality kosher steakhouse in Brooklyn/Midwood. Recommend loading up on appetizers and splitting the tomahawk 28 oz ribeye. The chicken appetizer was great, and so was the tartare. Salads are excellent as well. Cost was $150/head.

This steakhouse is one of the best i've been to. Our waiter, Adonis, was attentive and accommodating. The service is prompt and the food was delicious. The prices are on the more pricier side but it's worth the splurge on a special occasion. I had the prime fillet, when i first cut into it i felt it was too dry for a fillet cut but as i got closer to the center the meat was much more tender and juicer. My parents also had the Aged Rib Eye for 2 and loved it as well. Watermelon martini is one of the best cocktails on the menu and finishing off the meal with sorbet is a must! Great experience, would love to go again.

I'm going to go with 3 stars for 2 very important reasons that make a huge difference to me and people like me who enjoy fine dining. I dined at Bordeaux last night for my birthday. Firstly, upon entering we were greeted by a Maitre D and seated right away. The decor is really beautiful and old school. They kept the design from the previous restaurant and it truly does it justice. Our waiter introduced himself, he was really nice young man who knew the menu RE what would be a good dish and was quite attentive. As a side note, while dining it was difficult to track him down. We had to keep asking other waitstaff to call him. We ordered a bunch of apps; Aged Beef Carpaccio, Porcini Dusted Tuna, Pulled Beef Ravioli, Bordeaux Taco, Beef Burger Sliders and a Market Salad. Entrees we ordered the short ribs and the special which was a sous vide medium rare steak with mashed potatoes and courgettes. Every single dish was quite mediocre and really I can't point to a single dish and say damn that blew me away. If you are charging these prices per dish, you better be selling yourself properly. Of everything we tried my favourite, literally the one thing I can point to and say that was good, was the side dish courgettes. You're doing something very wrong if that's my take. Especially coming from someone who has tried the other local kosher fine dining establishments. Now, something else really ticked me off that I was appalled at. So you consider yourself fine dining and pricing above Brooklyn mediums yet between appetizers and entrees I wanted to give my waiter the dirty fork I used for my apps. His response was, keep it. You'll need it for the next course. That is unreasonable and very off putting. A fine dining establishment changes cutlery between courses. On to desserts. We ordered the Deconstructed Smores, Chocolate Peanut Butter Explosion, Mango Shortcake, & another that I can't recall the name. I have always heard raving reports about the desserts here, but again, a real let down. Very underwhelming and tasteless. I was really expecting a WOW! at least one WOW! Oh well, I'm honestly giving 3 because our waiter was quite nice and I had great company while dining.

Needed a meaty pick me up before tackling chef Janie's new fall dessert menu! I'm a big fan of this place and so was sadly disappointed when my order of corn beef empinadas, Dino sized bbq short rib and sautéed mushrooms on the side all came out either cold, burnt or lacking in filling. Called our waiter over and explained the unhappiness and immediately he and the manager apologized profusely and instead of deducting a percentage off our bill told us "let start over on your order" So menus were brought and the bad disappointing feelings quickly dissipated and we decided on the 21 day aged rib eye steak, Mashed potatoes instead of the fries and sautéed spinach. The 26 oz was perfect to share and share we did. This steak was utterly melt in your mouth glorious. Cooked to perfection and brought out in all its sizzling glory. The mashed potatoes were addictive and the sautéed spinach were quite good as well. We moved onto dessert and of course couldn't resist and ordered the 4 new items for the season. The begneits were light and fluffy, the monkey bread had the right amount of cinnamon sugar sweetness with the perfect dense chewy bite to the dough, the coconut pana cotta was my least favorite, idk the coconut flavor was a bit much here sadly and the texture wasn't as soft as I was expecting it to be, the peanut butter one was absolutely fantastic but wished the peanut butter "mousse" on top was chilled a bit instead of room temp...regardless, our second chance ordering this night was a hit and I look forward to returning!

The salvaged wood interior and candlelit ambiance create this inviting space that feels both historic and lived-in. It's cozy enough for a relaxed family dinner but still feels special. We've worked our way through quite a bit of the menu over the years. The mushroom tagliatelle is rich and satisfying, the crispy chicken sandwich hits the spot, and the charred orange cauliflower couscous topped with smoked salmon is a real standout--beautifully balanced. The pan-fried okra and fried shrimp are great for sharing, and the rainbow beet salad adds a nice fresh note. I also appreciate how kid-friendly they are without dumbing anything down. My kids are happy with their chicken poppers and quesadilla while we enjoy the more adventurous stuff. The place is named after Jacques Cortelyou's famous 17th-century map of Manhattan, and somehow that history feels present without being gimmicky. It's just a really solid neighborhood spot that makes you appreciate Ditmas Park. The flavors and textures were unique and memorable, with each bite cooked to absolute perfection. The service at Ren deserves its own accolade - it's a five-star experience in its own right. Open kitchen and limited amount of seats let us keep the place cozy and intimate, just like home. We make sure to buy from local purveyors, coffee roasters, and bakers." Home is where the heart is and there is nothing quite like a home cooked meal. I have to say most Bay Ridgians enjoy dining local and in our neighborhood. I love to support neighborhood gems because majority of restaurant owners here, love their clients, establish loyalty through cooking delicious food and provide consistent great customer service. I was in the mood for a " comfort food"breakfast, you know, eggs, avocado, mozzarella, tomato, deliciousness and I found it on the menu simply named "Breakfast Sandwich". Which consists of voila: Mozzarella, avocado, tomato jam, arugula, crispy bacon, dijonaise, sunny side up egg between multigrain toasts. I ordered this sans the bacon ( requested turkey bacon which they do not have). What arrived in my plate was this decadent open faced egg sandwich that looked delectable.. and was!! Let's first talk about the wheat toast: I tasted it naked and it simply melted in my mouth. The ingredients worked well together, perfect synchronicity. I used one half of the toast to sop up any fallen ingredients. Highly recommend! For a drink, I wanted something a bit different, thus, ordered the Mango Mint Peach tea, fruity with a hint of mint. Loved it and went well with the Sammy! There are lovely options besides breakfast sandwiches like quinoa, oatmeal, granola, pancakes, French toast.. breakfast is served all day and lunch is served @noon. I arrived before 12 and was told I can order breakfast or lunch. It has a cozy, intimate vibe which I love.. one where you can dine solo, or do work or read or just enjoy the fabulous food. I will make "The Common" my home away from home. Additionally, there are cooking classes in their Park Slope location; the courses look great: Italian feast, Moroccan cooking, Wine Pairing and many more. Check out their website for more info. We ordered the chicken liver mousse, crispy potato tart, and burger. The chicken liver mousse is a must order and something I get every time I come here, whether it is this location or the Park Slope one. The mousse itself is rich, creamy, savory, and packed with umami. I just wish it came with something better on the side. The pita was a little underwhelming and was not warmed all the way through. The crispy potato tart was excellent. The potato was super crispy, and a bite with the salmon, egg, sour cream, and potato together was perfect. The lightly dressed arugula helped cut through the richness and made for a nice palate cleanser. The burger looked pretty simple when it arrived, but it ended up being surprisingly good. The patty was juicy, flavorful, and cooked perfectly. Overall, a great neighborhood spot and one I would happily come back to.

My new favorite restaurant…read more The food was good, fresh, presumably well-sourced based on taste, and a very fair value. The restaurant is not overly expensive -- the $65.00 lunch bill below suggests a high-end selection and/or apps. I had a pineapple mint lemonade, sea bass on saffron risotto, a lovely salad topped with potato gnocchi, and cake dessert for $85 inclusive of 20% tip and tax. Nearly everything tasted fresh and homemade. Worth it. If this were served in Restaurant Row, the bill would be $40 more and the food not nearly as good. Because Beets & Carrots offers something rare and startlingly somehow in decline: food that tastes like food the body happily accepts as such. They serve meals that stand out simply because they taste like food. It was nice to dine outside the home feeling confident no digestive issues, lethargy, brain fog, bloating, etc were around the corner. You can tell that someone health conscious who cares about how ingredients show up in the meal is in the kitchen, someone who thinks food is both very fun and very serious. Least favorite: The lemonade. Mostly personal preference here, as I prefer a much tarter, less watery lemonade with higher lemon:water volume ratio. But I think most people would like it; I would get it again. Favorite: Both the entree and salad (which surprised me with a deliciously simple horseradish dressing) were great, but the bass wins in my book. Skin crisped to perfection...very flavorful fish and a great cut...creamy, perfect risotto. I appreciated that the risotto wasn't too salty as well.
