Overall, my impression of the restaurant was neutral, but there were some pleasant moments. We were greeted very well upon arrival, and the waiter, who spoke Turkish, was polite and created a good first impression. Of the dishes we ordered, I liked the Shepherd salad the most it was fresh, tasty, and well-balanced. During the service, we sometimes had to call the waiter, but the atmosphere was generally calm. The Kazandibi dessert, unfortunately, didn't quite meet expectations it was burnt and had a burnt smell. I've tried this dessert in many places and know what it should usually taste like. I hope that the quality of the dishes will improve in the future, as the restaurant does have some good points. read more

This place is usually packed!! My father in-law that lives in Brooklyn 90 years of youth loves this place. Lentil soup is a must. It's a thin lentil broth with lots of spices and a twist of lemon! They give really good sesame thin bread delish! I usually order the Mediterranean salad or the Opera, this time it wasn't that great because they had to train kitchen staff. The crepes are a sweet light banana strawberry treat.My father in-law always gets the scrambled eggs with potatoes and a salad how can you lose!! They must give 4-5 eggs definitely plenty! Always my go to when I'm back in Sheepshead Bay and visiting my parents! We have been coming to Opera ever since they opened (at least 10 years ago). You never need a reservation because the restaurant is HUGE. We got a table at the couches for 6 people. It was very spacious but we wish there were pillows in the couch to prop us up / feel more comfortable. The food and service is always great but wow, the portions got wayyyy smaller. We got a large shepherd salad to share for 6. When the waiter brought the large salad over, i asked if it was a small... the portions were never this small! We shared fried calves liver, shepherd salad, and calamari for appetizers. The liver was fried well with great seasoning. The calamari was fresh and crispy, but small portion. I got a whole grilled Branzino which came with a side salad. The fish was so moist and flaky. The seasoning was subtle enough to bring out the flavor of the fish. The salad went really well too with a light olive oil dressing. I love how you San taste / smell the grill on the fish skin. My husband got Alfredo pasta with chicken. Yes, we know this is a Turkish spot, but they offer some other options as well! The chicken and mushroom in the pasta was yummy and it wasn't overbearingly creamy. My mom's go to here is the octopus salad - I tried a piece of the octopus and it was cooked perfectly. Others got lamb shank, Buffalo wings, and Adana kebab. Everyone enjoyed the food. For dessert; we had to of course get Turkish tea and coffee, and their infamous cheese kunefe! Do not skip out on the cheese kunefe, it is made fresh on the spot and soooo gooooood!!! read more

We had lunch here last Thursday for my wife's birthday and haven't stopped raving to area friends about this gem of a stellar local business. It is my pleasure to rave to you about this awesome business. I start with its superb ambiance: the lounge atmosphere, the quality of bathrooms and interior design, its copious outdoor seating great for ambiance but also the peridemic time when we still don't want our young children to get ill especially merely for eating out, the superb famously attentive staff, its unique and delicious menu, the regularly dependable cooking, the stylish everything, and finally the overall happy feeling true to their slogan on the receipt, "A moment of joy". The outdoor seating facing Emmons is wisely done with the original seating having an open retractable roof. It is appended by some sidewalk seating which is well built up with coopious lighting and decor. There is also the C19-era outdoor seating further out on this particularly wide sidewalk area which is beautifully done with real tables and carpeting and all nicely maintained so many years after their city-wide introduction. Big kudos to the design and construction for all this area. The food is especially worth raving about with our 4 major dishes all totally deliciously hitting the mark: the lamb shank, mixed grill (5 kebabs, excellently chosen), seafood linguine (handily competes with any other, and Brooklyn is competitive for this), and chicken gyro plate. Service and staff are top notch. While some reviews joke it's overstaffed, our beloved Yuksel and the busboy Victor were to be praised. They made every request big and small so very easy. We used the bathrooms in the interior and the fanciness of the lounge concept is clear with beautiful tile, nice aromatics, dim lighting for style, very appropriately ambient music, smart layout of individual rooms each with a sink and 2 more outside of them, and copious paper supplies. Note they serve chicken gyros Mon-Thurs and lamb gyros Fri-Sun with only exceptions being the children's versions thereof). It's a wise accommodation for easier ordering and supply so their customer experience is more reliable while supply difficulties continue. We loved it and will celebrate many a future day here, bringing friends and family along in the future. read more

As I was walking to this restaurant, I saw a Turkish Air flight overhead on short final into Kennedy Airport. I took that as a sign that I had to come here and enjoy the food. Thankfully the food is pretty good. The Lentil soup is plentiful, though could use a bit of flavor, and the Turkish tea I had works well as well. I ordered the popular Mixed Grill and it did not disappoint. All the meats are tender, juicy, and plentiful. I was told that this is something you are supposed to share with people, but honestly, it works as a solo dish for one person. Ordering two would only ramp up the bill gratuitously. They also give free bread which is soft, but try not to fill up on it as the meal you will receive will only make things more filling. Being that I'm congested with a head cold, I began searching high and low for a place with excellent chicken soups. You know because chicken soup is really good for the soul. Opera's chicken soup was just what I needed. Full of nice pieces of chicken and carrots and the broth was perfect - not overly salty like some other places. I loved it and even have leftovers for tomorrow. Also very much enjoyed were the perfectly seasoned chicken tenders, which were more like chicken cutlets and the super flavorful French fries. Came here for a weekday brunch and the place was huge with ample seating. We opted to sit outdoors and it was a beautiful atmosphere with flowers everywhere. Service was polite and they were kids friendly, offering my toddler a small kids coloring booklet with 2 packaged crayons. My baby loved sampling the bread basket which came warm and fresh. I tried the salmon eggs Benedict while my husband had the menemen, my MIL ordered the eggs florentine. The eggs Benedict were great, hearty with a side of salad and potatoes. It was a really nice day and we wanted dinner along the water, so we ended up in Sheepshead Bay. Opera Café is a huge, gorgeous spot & the menu looked good so we decided to try it! Getting seated was fast -- initially went for the outdoor closest to the water, but found the sides of the chairs a little tight as a bigger person & staff was fast and helpful about seating us in a different comfy outdoor space with banquettes. We ordered drinks: a Miami Vice (a Pina w/ a strawberry twist) & a White Russian which my friend said was surprisingly strong. For apps, we got the Cigar Rolls & the Goat Cheese salad to share. For entrees, my friends (vegetarian) got the Mixed Meze to share and I, on a whim, decided to get the Chicken Alfredo. I seldom leave a review that's less than 5 stars but there were a couple stuttering things about the service that worked against the great things. Everything was tasty, and it was definitely worth the visit. But it seemed like service was most present when our orders were needed and absent after they were delivered; and on top of that, everything (house bread/apps/entree) was delivered at the same time. It was ...not the greatest to watch my pasta get cold because I wanted some salad (and btw, the Goat Cheese salad was perfect, and those creamy dials of cheese were so good). We did have to remind them about the cigar rolls (the other appetizer) and they came after our entrees were in front of us (but honestly also delicious)! I was also really surprised that the Mixed Dips came with no bread or pita? Like ... just dips. But when we flagged someone down to ask for bread they did bring us a loaf of the warm house bread we'd finished with our drinks earlier. The little bits I tried were great, particularly the labneh, red pepper, and hummus. My alfredo was fine but like mentioned, I would've probably enjoyed it more hot. Then three of us shared the Creme Brulee, which was so, so, good and a great finish to the meal. In short, the space could use a reconsideration of meal pacing/table touching. We shared a pretty large meal and felt bad repeatedly bothering someone for water and drinks and etc. Those are the kind of small things we'd normally ask for if our table got just 1 or 2 more check ups after dishes were down. We'd definitely come back if we were in the area but would just be a little wary of how we were ordering & try to not order entrees until our apps were done & maybe ask for a water jug to stay on the table. First I want to mention how much I enjoy their orange color which is in their indoor and outdoor space. It's so fun and playful. They have ample space indoors, outdoors and in between. It's cavernous but somehow cozy and intimate. The service is friendly and efficient, 5 stars. After you are seated, they immediately bring tap water and freshly baked bread and butter to your table. My dining companion and I got the doner and Adana lamb wraps with seasoned fries and house salad. In our inflation era, the prices were reasonable. The $36 bottle of Ruffino Prosecco was 3.5 stars. The food was four stars compared to other Turkish restaurants I've been to. They have a sizable alcohol list but if you must bring your own, it's $25 corkage fee per hard liquor bottle and $20 per wine bottle. The service is attentive and helpful, if you're new to turkish food they will help you choose something. i got the beef saute and a mango daquiri . It was flavorful and hot and the presentation is cool as its in a stone bowl. It was literally still boiling when they brought it like yum ! The food is always ok( nothing that makes you go wow) service is usually sporadic but tonight it was excellent so I decided to finally write this review. They only serve there breakfast menu till 5pm. But there are some breakfast items on the regular . So not sure why they stop. I've ordered cocktails here and have had mixed results. Decided to give this place a try after hearing about it from a friend. Unfortunately the experience was underwhelming. As the largest Turkish restaurant in NYC, I would've expected the food to be more authentic and have all the traditional dishes, but this place seemed to be more catered to tourists. This restaurant is located right by the water area which is really nice, but it's also very hard to find parking over here. So if you decide to dine in one of the restaurants in this area, make sure you come early to find parking or take the train. Train is also not super near the area. Expect a 15-20 min walk. Food was average. Was disappointed and surprised to hear that they did not serve Lahmachun in a Turkish restaurant. At the moment I knew it was not going to be the authentic Turkish experience we were hoping for. My friends and I had initially wanted the lamb gyro wrap, but were told that there was no more lamb gyro left... So then I decided to order the Adana wrap instead. Portions of the wraps were very tiny and barely had any meat in it. There was many be like one tiny piece of meat and rag was a bunch of salad. If you come here get the Adana plate that comes with rice two big pieces of Adana kebab, salad, and bread. I you're better of paying $22 for that than $15 for a tiny wrap. The best two things I ate was the Shepard's salad and the cigar rolls we ordered as appetizers. Oh and my tequila sunrise was also delicious! Service was average. Nothing to special but the interior of this place is beautiful. The interior of the restaurant is decorated with a lot of beautiful Turkish accents, such as the beautiful Turkish lights and seats. I've been to Opera a handful of time. This place never disappoints. Last visit was on 2/6/23 on a Monday afternoon. Parking was easy and the restaurant wasn't too crowded. We were immediately seated. This restaurant's ambience makes it perfect for a date night or great place to catch up with friends. The drinks were strong. I ordered a dirty martini with an entree of the Adana kebab and bulgur. The plate also came with a side salad. The kebab was perfectly seasoned and so tender and juicy. The bulgur was delicious and I'm so glad our waiter recommended it. Wow, what a great experience at Opera in Sheepshead Bay. We went with a group of five people, and the first thing we noticed was that the restaurant was very spacious. Once we got seated, we started off with the cold appetizer platter, and everything that came on this platter was delicious. We did ask for more bread because we felt like we went through it very quickly, but they were more than happy to give us extra.   For my main meal, I went with the Lamb Adana Kebab, which came with a side salad, rice, and some pita bread. This meal was very tasty. I really enjoyed it.  In fact, all the food we ate was very good and I would go back to Opera for lunch or a nice dinner again. This is a good place if you were with a group of people or just going out on a date. They also have a beautiful outdoor section in the front of the restaurant for the summer months / nice weather days. read more
