Recommended: Adana, Calf's Liver, Doner to an extent I went to this Turkish spot with one of my groups a while back having been prior to their other location. The place is pretty big and is pretty casual and the service was fine. Food also was similarly fine with pretty reasonable prices and some good dishes and some just okay dishes. It's nice that they have small and large options for most dishes also. They gave us some bread which was warm and tasty. The best of the appetizers was the Calf's Liver/Arnavut Cigeri served with the obligatory onions topped with sumac. Perfectly cooked with a good mix of spices. I've had better from a couple spots but these were notably good. The Large Mixed Cold Appetizers/Karışık Meze Tabağı consisted of hummus, babaghanoush, eggplant spread/patlıcan salatası, white beans/piyaz, cracked wheat/tabule, yogurt/lebne, "mixed eggplant," and grape leaves. In short, it was mostly a mix of eggplant and some other things with the best thing probably being the spiced eggplant spread and the baba. It went well with the warm bread of course. The last of the smaller plates was the Sigara Boregi or filo stuffed with cheese and herbs. These had five pieces and were lightly salty. The texture could have been better but they were fine. The best of the main dishes was the Chicken Adana or ground chicken flavored with bell peppers and paprika served with rice and salad. The adana here was particularly tender and well flavored being one of the few dishes that I thought was better than at Taci's. There was also lamb gyro/doner. The portion size was generous with plenty of sliced lamb though some pieces were a bit dry. The piece that were tender were excellent however but I definitely have had better. Last was the Kaşarlı Sucuklu Pide. Pide refers to a flatbread and in this case it was topped with Kasseri cheese and sausage (i.e. the sucuk.) Salty as expected and there could have been a bit more sausage but it was pretty good. We got a few desserts after. The brown top pudding/Kazandibi was my favorite as expected with a good texture. The rice pudding topped with cinnamon was OK though lighter flavored than most. The pistachio rolls were unfortunately cold but thankfully not overly sweet. I also got a Turkish Coffee which was OK. The food here was fine. A couple notably good dishes with a couple OK ones. If this was in a place without good Turkish food, I'd let it slide a bit more but there's steep competition in this part of Brooklyn. Low/mid 3. read more

Something about Memos really always shines. You can tell that when you are eating the food that it was freshly prepared for you... It's always a treat when I order. I never once was left feeling disappointed. This place is highly recommended by me as a must try. My go-to is the Grilled Chicken Kabob Plate. I always add hummus to it :) their hummus is a must. I've tried this place over 10 years ago, it's a casual place to grab/order food, laid back service, plenty of tables and they open late. Although I haven't dined in recently, it's my go to spot for dinner delivery (which I order on their website at least twice a month). It is not a restaurant but an eatery so if you're looking for implacable service this place is not for you. Prices went up, portion size went down over the years but that's everywhere. Their food is delicious, I get gyros or kebabs in Turkish bread or as a plate with rice and salad (which also comes with bread). Delivery takes a while even though I'm not far, and it arrives barely warm for some reason but tastes good and fresh (can't blame delivery guy because I don't know their system). Also recently I ordered kunefe with my meal but got some other dessert. Called them to find out what that is and why I got it, lady on the phone told me they didn't have kunefe so they substituted it (with cheaper & smaller dessert). I told her to send delivery guy back my way to pick up unwanted dessert and that my order had email & phone # so they should've contacted me instead of improvising. She said they not coming back but will refund me for the dessert which never happened. It was a one time occurrence, and honestly was not a deal breaker I guess because I don't have high expectations, just unfortunate that they lack customer service. Bottom line, if you order delivery give yourself extra wait time and option to heat up the food. read more

Before I begin, I'd like to clarify that I don't give out 5 star reviews unless I'm absolutely in love with the spot and blown away. 4 stars is my highest rating. So this 2 star review is not as bad as it may look. Here's the thing about memos: good food for sure. But the pricing is absolutely out of this world ridiculous and in my opinion, makes no sense. Upon further research, every Turkish spot in the area is in the same boat, except Memos probably beats them food quality wise. So it's kind of like if you want Turkish, you have to be willing to shell out an arm and a leg. I only order from them on delivery.com when there's promos going on because that's the only way I can get a *single* meal (small) for under $25. Is that not insane? My go to is usually the chicken Adana (ground chicken with spices shaped into a kebab) which is $18. It comes with only 1 kebab, rice pilaf and some shepherds salad. The size of the container is the same size as what you get at a halal cart, I kid you not. They pack it all in there, just as halal carts do, except it's nowhere near as full & the kebab is broken in half to make it look like more food. Don't believe me? Check the photos! There's one of the small lamb Adana plate in a round aluminum container. Yes, that was $20. If you want an extra skewer, it's an additional $8.50. Almost $30 for a single meal. So, you do the math, if one skewer is worth $8.50 and the rest of the plate is just rice and some shepherds salad, how are they coming up with $18? Even when you order the combo plates that come with 2 or more meats, which are all $25+, you're getting the exact same sized container and amount of food. You would think they would be decent enough to pack things separately, sadly not the case. To put it in perspective, imagine going to your local halal cart and paying $20 for 1 chicken over rice. Or Chinese takeout and paying $30 for their lunch combinations. OR getting a lonche from the Dominicans and having them charge you the price of a family meal. But in the end, you're barely getting enough food for just one person. In today's day and age, it just feels really icky to charge people that much for what is essentially pretty basic grub. Haven't been here in years and just ordered a chicken kebab with rice and just wasn't that impressed. Though the chicken is juicy, it was just ok tasting. Rice had a good flavor to it but again, nothing special. Also asked them to leave the vegetables out and they included them. Just not impressed. In fact, almost all the Turkish places on or near Kings Highway have really went downhill with there kebabs, big time. Guess I won't be trying them again. I can't speak for the other food because I don't eat lamb and gyros to me are simply gross because it's just ground up chicken from the entire carcus and I don't like that in general. read more

We had falafel sandwich- falafels were crispy, generous portion, vegetables were fresh and crisp. We got the hummus appetizer with the delicious home bread. The hummus was tasty, creamy and not bitter. We also got one of the salads - really fresh cabbage and greens, light and delicious dressing. Usually when you eat at any restaurant, it's the food you're more focused on, the tastes quality etc. This review is different for me, don't get me wrong, but the highlight of tonight was the service. I wish I caught her name, maybe I will stop by and thank her next time. While their entire staff are very sweet, this one particular lady went beyond and helped me bring me order to my car across the street! She put into consideration my 2 year old with me and what I had in my hands to start with. She asked me if I have a car and grabbed my bags and lead me out. Memo Shish Kebab is still my favorite spot for Mediterranean/Turkish food, after all these years. The portions are big, the prices are reasonable, and the food is good - what more could you ask for? My favorite is still any of the adanas (although this time the chicken was a bit dry but that wouldn't keep me from ordering it again next time). I've been here many times since my initial review but this time, I finally got to try the lahmacun and I loved it. In my mind, it's like a Turkish version of pizza but without the cheese. It's a thin piece of flatbread with minced meat (in this case, lamb) and fresh herbs. It was a bit soggy but that was due to it being piping hot, stuffed into a pizza box, and us not eating it until half an hour later. We had some leftovers the next day that we popped in the toaster oven (and of course I bastardized it by adding some mozz, but I'm not mad at it) and it was still amazing. No leftover lamb taste or anything, and it crisped back up very nicely. Thanks, Memo for introducing me to lahmacun! I'm just sad I don't live in the area anymore, but I'm sure my bank account would be happy about that. read more

Tantalizing with flavor and our waiter had an awesome personality and great stories. My cousin was craving Turkish food and this is her favorite place. We ordered the babaghanoush to start. This was my first time eating this and I must say it was pretty good. I had to get used to the texture but it was worth it. I ordered the dorado fish with salad, my cousin had salmon kebabs, calamari and a chicken pita sandwich. We all were stuffed when we were leaving and had food we could take with us. The dorado was grilled to perfection, moist and flavorful. The lemon sauce they serve it with just made it better. The salmon was juicy and flaky. I can't tell you how the chicken was but the person eating it really loved it. The calamari was lightly coated and fried but not chewy. The waiter explained the place depicted on the wall mural, he talked about how he came to America and a little about what was occurring in his home land. Solid Mediterranean, Turkish food in the neighborhood. If you live in Sheepshead Bay, then you'll know that there are a plethora of Mediterranean restaurants at your disposal. Turn your head and there's 1, 2, 3 within shouting distance. Some are bigger than others, some are fancier than others, but do we really go just for the size of the restaurant or the decor. OK, apparently some people probably do, but, the bottom line is that it always comes down to the food!!! Memo Shish Kebab isn't the biggest, isn't the fanciest, but their food (at least their sandwiches) are spot on. Honestly, I typically go to another Turkish restaurant in Sheepshead Bay (Anatolian Gyro) just because of proximity, but I always wanted to try out Memo because the food just looked DAMN good on Yelp. But pictures and the actual flavors are 2 different things, right? FINALLY, during the COVID pandemic in August, I decided to give them a try. I usually don't venture to Kings Highway often, but I couldn't resist using a $7 off my first order via Grubhub. My wife and I decided to start simple - sandwiches - and if we liked them then we would move up the ladder to platters. Have to take it one step at a time my friends. I ordered a Lamb Gyro on a Pita and my better half ordered a Grilled Chicken on Home Bread. Prices were pretty much on par with what we typically paid for meals of this nature, so there were no surprises there. The verdict? Mmmm Mmmmm mmmmm. First, the Lamb Gyro. The meat was fresh, tasty and juicy. Personally, it was as good as I have had in the area. The pita held everything together really well and the amount of meat was beyond fair and, quite laughable. It felt like I was holding a 1lb burger. As for my wife's Grilled Chicken on Home Bread, it was another solid choice. Sometimes, grilled chicken can be dry, but not in this case. The sandwich was well put together and, like the Lamb Gyro, really, really tasty. Unfortunately, due to the pandemic, indoor dining is not allowed here as of August, but they did have tables set up outside for outdoor dining. The streets in the area are tight though, so people do tend to walk closely to tables, so be cautious when dining. However, the sandwiches were great here and we'll definitely be giving them another try if our stomachs are feeling for Turkish food. read more

First time over here dining in..... typical Turkish set up; you get to see the lamb & Chicken gyro meat spinning around; the kababs grilling right in front of you... also they have their raw variety of their kababs very nicely displayed for our viewing ..... Also on the way to be seated you can't help to notice their desert display case which looked amazing.... I've been to many Turkish restaurants and they usually all have the same basic deserts but not here ...... amazing cake slices, these yummy looking roll up stuffed like cakes & some good looking puddings ..... Was coming here to get lentil soup once or twice a week. Last visit. Ordered it to go. Around 11 pm. While waiting for the order ive noticed two employees discussing something and laughing while washing the metal container ( that was storing the soup) under the sink then spill it into the to go cup, put it in the bag and call my number. I've been passing by this café for over 13 years, ever since moving in the area. This place is always filled with people-morning through night. It even underwent renovations. Customers have been flocking here faithfully, as if the place was covered with honey. I have finally got an opportunity to visit and experience the hype one Thursday evening at 8pm. Very casual place--take out and quick dinning. Quick, simple, no frills service. Super casual atmosphere. We got the cheese filled phyllo dough cigars ($7.50)--my all-time favorite. Pretty well prepared here. Not the best I've ever had [could've used more cheese filling], but the interior was light and crunchy, and the overall taste was salty and satisfying. My bf got the lamb and chicken gyro on pita ($7) and I got the lamb gyro on homemade bread with +$1 for adding baba ghanoush inside my sandwich ($9.50). Both, the fresh pita and homemade bread was tasty and according to Turkish bread making standards. I don't eat bread, but these versions were worth the calories. The gyros themselves were not the best quality. The meat was not juicy nor tender nor fresh. Very dry sandwiches, just tomato and iceberg lettuce in addition to meat--definitely needed sauce. Not big portion. No sides included. We got the $5 kadayif to go. It was pretty dry, so wish we got the kunefe. Pretty wide variety of desserts to choose from, so this place makes for a good coffee/tee/dessert hangout spot. Paid $31.57 for the meal. This review is only for their take away. I just touched down in JFK and hubby came to pick up myself, my babes and our cousin from the airport. After dropping her off at her place in the area, we decided to grab some grub in the area. While looking for a liquor store, I noticed Memo across the street and checked out the menu and reviews. It definitely looked promising. We ordered our food over the phone and just stayed in the car since I was nursing and the place looked jam-packed. The lady said it would only take 15 minutes which was pretty on point. Hubby went in to get our food and we ate his side of fries while I finished nursing. He exclaimed how yummy the place smelled when we walked inside which made me want to eat everything right then and there. The fries were kind of bland. They were well fried but had absolutely no seasoning on them whatsoever. I ended up running inside, myself, for a side of feta cheese and some tzatziki to help them out a bit. I'm a pig so if and when I go back to eat there again, I'll most definitely order sums of their grated feta on the fries because it made a huge difference. Once we got home, we ate: Lamb Gyro: hubby got it in a pita and it tasted great, full of veggies and lamb. Lamb Adana: I got the large platter which came with two large lamb skewers, rice and fresh tomatoes. It was so big that I had it for lunch the following day. Appetizer Sampler: I ordered the small that came with hummus, tabouleh, tzatziki, a stuffed grape leaf and a few other dips. It had a lot as well and divided into to meals. It comes with your choice of bread and I thought I asked for put but we given this thick, quilted bread instead and I'm happy for that accident because, whatever bread that was that I was given, it was soooo soft and filling and I definitely want more! I've never had anything like it. I also bought a couple of their chocolate covered profiteroles which I wish were fresher but still tasted great. One of my Russian coworkers brought it in to a holiday party and I am happy I was able to try it again. Quite sad to say that I had to downgrade my rating from 5 stars due to my recent visit to this restaurant. It seems that things are a little bit different in 2022. The portions of food and tea are far smaller when you sit down in the restaurant. If you are accustomed to takeout here, stick with it. What I received in the restaurant was roughly half of what I received in the past. What surprised me most was the service. It was all over the place. One minute our server was nice, the next, a nightmare. The ladies were all professional, though awkward due to the actions of our server. We were explicit that Our bills were separate when we sat down and the server had a nasty attitude when we reminded him of it when the bill came together. Then he continued to carry on about questions we had regarding the bill. Though the flavors are still good, the quality has definitely gone down. I'm so disappointed.
