    Manti--delish

Accommodating staff, quick service, pleasant experience. The management takes care to make their customers happy. The space is tiny, and it gets super packed during busy rush times of lunch and dinner. Get here a bit earlier than traditional meal times, if you want to snag a seat. The decor is casual, so this is a no frills space for a meal for any informal occasion. All meats are oversalted, so keep that in mind if that's an issue for you. You will be very dehydrated after your meal, so drink plenty of water as you're eating. Menu is extensive, so even picky eaters will be able to find something satisfactory. Prices are reasonable for portion and quality of food. Portions of salads are generous, which is appreciated. Greek salad was delicious--well balanced and delicious. Best salad on the menu. Satisfying and healthy. Tashkent salad was bland and not prepared in the usual style of this salad. I would skip this next time. Turkish Liver appetizer is tasty, delicate, and bursting with flavor. Recommend. Manti were spot on--delicate, thin dough, juicy meat. Would be back for this. Chebureki were on point--light, crispy dough and flavorful meat filling. I try to avoid chebureki because they are so fatty and oily, but I did not feel that with this presentation. Lulya kebab was juicy and tender--a winner out of all the meats that we ordered. Very salty. Lamb kebabs were our least favorite--the meat was dry. Very salty. Lamb back kebab was juicier, so if you're looking for a good cut of meat, this would be your pick. Very salty, still. Can bring your own alcohol, as all Russian speaking customers are used to.

Place is pretty small and extremely packed. We went there on Sunday afternoon and luckily had a table right away. Service was fantastic, servers were always available and very courteous. Most importantly food was super great. For appetizers we ordered beef tongue with radish, it was excellent and very fresh. Turkish style liver cubes were excellent as well. Crunchy and juicy and nice sized portion. For entrees, we order potato dumplings very good, lamb shanks super good and beef tails were superb, not many places know how to make them but at Omar Khayyam they nailed it. Prices are good considering the location. Definitely recommend it

Very good food, nice atmosphere , friendly and attentive service ! They do not take reservations on the weekend , so be ready to wait a little , because they are busy but it worth it! They have liquor menu but you can BYOB no cork fee

Chebureki are out of this world!

Food is amazing. Decent portions. Good service. Very cozy spot for dinner with family and friends.

The place is located next to Brighton beach train station. The inside is pretty simple, and you can bring your booze because the business does not sell alcohol. For the starter, we had a fresh veggie salad; the portion was huge and easy to share. I also ordered samsa, but I do believe there are better places for that. As a side dish, we had potatoes with mushrooms. I believe this place has the best kebabs in the area! If you are a fan of liver and lamb ribs, this is the perfect spot! The ribs are super juicy, and the liver melts in your mouth. My husband does not like lamb meat, so he orders chicken and beef, which are also really good!

Hole in the wall! Best beef manti ever!! 5/5 Pilov with lamb 5/5 Chicken tabaka 5/5 Luyla minced beef kabob! 5/5 Lamb Chops were great! The only down side was the beef dumplings - with thick dough

Small place with a huge menu of delicious food. The service is fast paced but the wait staff is very attentive. They provide excellent recommendations. The Navruz salad, beef kebobs, liver kebobs, lulya and fried potatoes with mushrooms were finger-licking good. You have to try their home made kompot (fruit punch) and their smetannik (cake). Great ambiance wish the place was a tiny bit bigger but for a little place they food packs a punch of yumminess.

The Restaurant I Fell in Love With 10 Years Ago Is Still Here!…read moreI have been a loyal customer of Hot Potato House for over a decade,my history with this restaurant goes far beyond an occasional dinner. I have celebrated special occasions here with family and friends, ordered catering for my office, relied on delivery countless times, recommended it to visitors from around the world. Whenever someone asked me where to find truly good Eastern European food in South Brooklyn, for years my answer came without hesitation: Hot Potato House. What always made this restaurant special was that it was never limited to just 1 type of cuisine or 1 kind of customer. Eastern European dishes are the heart of the menu, but there are also excellent German dishes, seafood, steaks, genuinely great burgers, vegetarian options. It has always been 1 of those rare places where you can bring a group of people with completely different tastes and everyone can find something they are excited to eat. The atmosphere has always been another reason I loved coming here.On certain evenings there is live music, but even without it, the restaurant has a warm, pleasant ambiance. The service has always been professional, attentive and gracious. Throughout the pandemic,it remained my go-to for delivery, food consistently arrived fresh and delicious. However recently I had an experience that was very disappointing and different from the place I had known for so long & when I brought my concerns to the owner, the way he handled the situation deserves special recognition. In an era when genuine customer service feels like a disappearing art, Greg's response was a benchmark for hospitality, accountability and respect for a long-time patron. He listened. He took my concerns seriously. He did not become defensive or dismissive. Most importantly, he made a sincere effort to restore my confidence in a restaurant I had praised so enthusiastically. Tonight's meal did something I did not expect-it took me back 10 years. My earliest memories of dining here is celebrating my beloved father's birthday. My dad had passed away since then,so those memories are now bittersweet, but I still remember that celebration vividly: the atmosphere, the service, and especially how much everyone enjoyed the food. Tonight's meal tasted like that again. Because NYC is still suffering through extreme heat,I had been craving something cold, so I started with the Svekolnik, a chilled beet soup. The natural sweetness of the beets, fresh cucumbers, finely chopped egg came together beautifully. Add a little sour cream and it becomes wonderfully creamy while remaining light and refreshing,it definitely hit the spot. The complimentary dark bread deserves its own mention-fresh and yummy,it paired perfectly with Svekolnik. Then came 1 of my favorite dishes: Mushroom Julienne-rich, comforting dish of mushrooms in a creamy sauce, baked with cheese. The mushrooms had wonderful flavor and texture, the creamy sauce was luxurious, the cheese pull was Instagram worthy, everything came together into a savory dish that's irresistible even when full. The potato pierogi/vareniki from the Loft by Hot Potato were the Best I have had in a while-soft, delicate dough surrounding a flavorful mashed potato filling, beautifully fried onions alongside them. And if you ordered the Mushroom Julienne, try a varenik with a little of that creamy mushroom goodness. You can thank me later. Next was the veal tongue, a delicacy; slices were delicate, flavorful and incredibly tender. The accompanying horseradish and beet sauce gives it just enough sharpness to brighten the meat without overpowering its subtle flavor. The dessert was spectacular: Tarte Tatin-the classic French upside-down apple tart, made with caramelized apples&pastry, served warm with vanilla ice cream. Portion is very generous and it was divine. I order delivery frequently from different restaurants but honestly cannot remember the last time food arrived so hot, the efficiency of the kitchen and delivery speed was truly impressive. I also want to express my sincere appreciation to Greg, the owner, for the way he personally handled my issues. His approach was gracious, professional and remarkably respectful. I recently ordered on a solemn anniversary marking a profound loss and the care shown to me mattered more than Greg realizes. A restaurant can occasionally have an imperfect day. What tells you far more about a business is what happens afterward. In this case, owner listened, cared, and made me feel that a long-time customer genuinely mattered. So after more than 10 years of experience with Hot Potato House, I can once again sincerely recommend it--not just for Eastern European food, but for any group where everyone wants something different. With such a broad menu, there's truly something for everyone. Thank you, Greg, for reminding me why I kept coming back to HPH and why I'm happy to endorse it again.

Delicious food, great presentation, and excellent service!…read more We had an early family dinner at Chateau de Capitane in March 2024. It was Sat but the music would start much later so there was no noise and we could talk. Almost all food we ordered was exceptionally delicious, from appetizers to desserts. The service was very attentive and we also got good suggestions helping to avoid ordering too much :) We highly recommend Chateau de Capitane for excellent delicious food and we'll certainly be back! Appetizers Trio Tartare - awesome! It had tuna, salmon, and yellowtail tartare and each had its own distinct taste. Can't really say which one was better as they were all good but different. Sesame Tuna - perfect! Tuna was tender and flavorful, melting in the mouth. Duck Salad - this one could be better as the duck was dry and scarce. Arugula Goat Cheese Salad - delicious! We were debating whether to order this salad as we make it at home, but we didn't regret. It had a perfect combo of ingredients + some sauce or smth making it a harmony. Kutaby with Herbs - fresh, warm, flavorful. Belyash with Meat - this eastern russia deep fried meat patty was about 1.5x of the standard size. It had perfectly fried dough (not burned) and plenty of juicy medium cooked meat inside. I tired belyashi in restaurants in russia and made at home, but this one surpassed them all. Just this single belyash already makes it worth coming back to Chateau de Capitane :) Soups Uha with Salmon - it was good, fresh, and clear. Plenty of salmon. It was tasty but somewhat standard. The taste could be made more colorful with some extra spices and maybe lemon. Dushpora - fresh and tasty, with cute mini-dumplings. We all tried and liked it. Solaynka - this one was unfortunately a miss. Tasteless and over salted. Mains Duck with Dried Fruits - simply amazing! If you like duck - this a must have! The portion was very generous and had la parts of duck - legs, wings, and breast. It was super juicy and tender, cooked to perfection. The dry fruits were of a good variety and matched the duck. Chilean Sea Bass with Creamy Polenta - soft, flakey, delicious! It wasn't not too fatty as a sea bass could be. Polenta was a great match as well as a mushroom sauce served on the side. Grilled Branzino - it was served nicely peeled off the bones and had great flavor and texture, yet was not "fishy". Stuffed Jumbo Shrimps - these were very good according to the people who ate them.

Fast forward to the present day, and they have gained considerable attention. The restaurant has made the NYT's Top 100 Restaurants in NYC list for the past 4 years, they have expanded to two (soon three) other locations, and is a favorite among the social media and celeb crowd (this is allegedly one of Dua Lipa's favorite restaurants in the city). That being said, we thought it would be a great spot to celebrate a family member's birthday - so I booked a table and off we went. Çka Ka Qëllu is located on Hughes adjacent to the back entrance of the Arthur Ave Retail Market. The restaurant is gorgeous - it's pretty spacious with three main dining rooms. The decor is a showstopper in itself - the exposed stone walls coupled with the abundance of artwork and old world accents placed throughout the dining area make this seem more like a museum than a restaurant. The ethnic music that is piped throughout the restaurant completes the feel. I honestly couldn't stop looking around. There menu is pretty expansive - most of the items I had not heard of before, but it's also approachable as they spell it out for you in the description what each dish is. We were a party of seven, so to make things easy we aligned to share everything. My brother and I decided to take lead and order items from each section. We decided to start with the ajvar, sausage dip, and tarator. These were all delicious; essentially dips, they all had great flavor and were paired with hot crusty bread mmmm. We then got a bunch of other dishes: leçenik, burek, fili, fasule with smoked meat, mantia, mazë e zier, and a shop salad. As with the dips, everything here was delicious. It's hard to pick the standouts because everything was so good - honest food, full of flavor and depth. Okay you twisted my arm - if I had to choose, my favorites were the burek and the mazë e zier. I love a good burek, and this one was top drawer. The pull on the mazë e zier was out of this world, yet it was easy to maneuver with great flavor. We ended the meal with one of their grilled dishes - namely the mixed meat combo. We chose five meats and they paired them with some vegetables and potato. At risk of sounding like a broken record - this was delicious as well. Service was awesome - everyone was welcoming and the food came out at a good pace. Overall, Çka Ka Qëllu is an absolute yes - the food, the decor, and the service were all aces. The hype is real and they deserve all the accolades they have received. Goes without saying, but I would definitely return for another meal - take me back now!

Set into such a cute background it's hard to pick apart the scenery. I met my friends and we sat in the lounge area. It was comfortable, cute, we loved it. I settled for the yoshi drink (it was matcha based and quite amazing!) my friend had the rotary which he said was great as well. We ordered a hodgepodge of appetizers and food to share amongst ourselves.. the oysters were good, they were small and didn't really justify its cost. Smashburger was exactly that, nothing mind blowing or memorable about it and we had no complaints. We got the focaccia with whipped ricotta and honey. But out came a focaccia with tomato sauce on top and Mozerella. We had to ask the waitress about it who replied the kitchen may have updated the menu and substituted that in its place... I don't know what your thoughts are but whipped ricotta with honey is not even in the same category as a glorified pizza cheese bread and our bellies really didn't want this imposter of a plate. But our waitress had it corrected. When it came back out we were met with the whipped ricotta and honey with bread which was great! But it wasnt focaccia... disappointing but if the menu was going to state focaccia than focaccia is what should be served not the sourdough bread we got.... So sad! their charcuterie nachos board was to die for, the meats sliced perfect and olives that were so fresh, it came on a board with beautiful presentation. We ordered cheese fries too but that was mediocre at best. We were there for a while so more drinks ordered. We had to send a rotary back because it was definitely not made with woodford reserve and had some other drink mixed into it. My friend had an internal meltdown because it was soo bad, accidents happen at the bar so our waitress personally watched the bartender remake it and it came back perfect and all was right with the world again for my friend... Now off to desserts. We had the 17 layer chocolate cake, the upside down pineapple cake sundae and the butterscotch pudding. The best one out of all of them was the butterscotch pudding. The upside down pineapple cake sundae was meh.. and Mabel's should just take the 17 layer chocolate cake off the menu. I was offended for the ambience to allow a cake of that caliber to be served there. It was dry. It left our mouths feeling like we bit into sand after each bite. The chocolate frosting also felt like it was a rolled sugar after thought. Had the texture off marzipan and lacked taste. It was disappointing I think we wanted to cry.... The chocolate shavings they had on the cake for presentation was dry and showed visible signs of age. Like they had rolled the shavings days before and put it into a tub to use throughout the week. We made it through some of the cake by spooning the upside down pineapple cake sundae into each chocolate cake bite.. All in all the vibes is cute but the food did not hit like we wanted it too. My recommendation to the restaurant is to revisit the menu and personally taste it and be very honest with the plate and ask themselves if the bite matches the mood of the restaurant and if it doesn't take it off the menu and replace it.... The goal is to keep and retain customers so they continue to recommend and recruit more people and for this place it should start with being proud for the food being served and the accuracy of the quality of the food.

But I didn't like a few things - first, it was hard to find. Second - there aren't enough restrooms, which created long lines. Service was good during weekday lunch since there weren't many people. The food is good but some of the prices are high. We enjoyed the mantis and the plov was delicious but a bit smaller than expected. The beshbarmak was tender meaty goodness on top of some wonton wrappers. The broth was so rich and good especially with the smooth wrappers essentially acting as noodles. The meat was too much for two people though so we took it home.
