In reality, it looked nothing like the photos -- the meat was basically boiled, extremely fatty, and pretty unpleasant. Thankfully, the tender beef short ribs were the best thing we ordered. The meat actually had flavor, and the potatoes were good. The lemonade was also very good. I went in expecting Uzbek food to be less heavily spiced than other cuisines, which is completely fine, but this was beyond that -- the food just felt low quality and poorly executed. For four people, with only one lemonade and no alcoholic drinks, the bill came to about $260, which felt insanely expensive for the quality we received. The atmosphere was nice, but the basement dining area was also extremely hot and uncomfortable. Overall, this place did not live up to the hype. Check the pictures for the dishes we ordered.

I truly love this bakery and will continue recommending it because the quality of the bread is exceptional. I only hope the customer service can better reflect the quality of the products. A manager approached us and informed us that outside food was not permitted, even though purchases had been made. We were then asked to leave and eat outside in the hot weather. I understand that businesses have policies regarding outside food, and I respect the need to enforce them. However, I believe this situation could have been handled with greater compassion and understanding, given that the group consisted of individuals with disabilities who rely on packed lunches due to financial limitations. As someone who has consistently supported your establishment, I was disappointed by the lack of flexibility and empathy shown. Unfortunately, because of this experience, I will no longer be bringing my business or the individuals I support to your establishment. I hope this feedback encourages your management team to consider a more accommodating approach when serving members of the disability community in the future.

I would never go to this place, it seems to me a social spot for Uzbek people only and especially women haters male. Yesterday my aunt was verbally abused and belittled by their costumers and waiters, simply for asking for her food order to go. It's absolutely not acceptable behavior. I wish she would call 911 and FBI to report the incident. No one from the restaurant management got involved to stop them. I would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

The sweetness of the pumpkin was leveled out by savory diced onion. The pastry on this samsa was chewier and it provided a nice contrast to lighter beef samsa. I can't decide which I liked more. The soup was fantastic. The noodles appear homemade and the vegetables on top are very soft but not mushy. The pieces of beef are remarkably tender. The broth is marbled with red stained oil and the rich, beefy, savoriness is tempered by some type of bright acidity. The distinct aroma of fresh dill permeates the soup. The crunchy fresh herbs add an additional texture to the soup. I was surprisingly full at the end of this meal and the prices were extremely reasonable. If you're looking to try some Uzbek food in Sheepshead Bay I would certainly recommend this place.

At another place, I had pasta with unlimited soups, and I ate the soups and was fed, and I took the whole pasta with me to eat once or twice more. And my partner ate her pasta and had some leftovers. And we had unlimited drinks for 2 and it all cost us only like $55! I highly recommend that Masal decrease their prices significantly. -They have a mandatory gratuity which to me just doesn't look good (and I do always tip). -The last time the service was awful. There was only one guy serving everyone and he kept on doing something else and rarely looking at us. He once disappeared/went somewhere for what seemed like 5 minutes. Where were more servers? We had to wait longer than last time each time we needed a server. -Last time the bathroom was unusable and we had to go somewhere else when we had to go. -Last time there were some changes that made the cafe look less pleasing, and the windows were blocked. I always enjoyed sitting by the windows enjoying the scenery but now I couldn't. My partner and I may no longer go to this cafe.

Started with the pilaff. Probably my least favorite meat of the day but it was plentiful, so tender, and the rest of the rice dish were delicious. Huge portion. I'm such a big fan of manti and almost always enjoy them, but these were even better than most. Plump, juice, packed with meat. Enjoyed the sauce it came with, as well. Finally, lamb rib kebab and lyulya kebab were great. I preferred the latter and may next time opt for the ribs without the fat, but they were both still great. Service was lovely, you can tell they care about the experience. Felt like we were in someone's home eating a home-cooked meal. If we lived in the area we definitely would consider coming back.

Now, it's banks, cellular, provider, stores urgent care, a 7-11, even a Popeyes freaking fried chicken. Oh, and the Starbucks is still there. After walking out of a very bad experience at imereti Georgian cafe down the street (see separate review) I found this place. Boy, am I glad I did. I was seated in the front. The restaurant was gorgeous. ! I could hear a beautiful voice singing, Eastern European songs in the back of the restaurant and at one point,, he switched to Elvis's "I can't help falling in love with you" in English. That made me a little emotional, because that was my late partner's and my song... Anyway, I decided to go for the crêpes with red caviar (salmon roe), and the Ukrainian borscht. Bread and butter is brought to my table. The white bread was OK, but the brown bread had a deep rich flavor. The crêpes come first, and they were amazing. The crêpes were very warm, soft and delicious. I loved the "red caviar". A little bit salty, more briny than fishy, and a wonderful explosion of flavor when the eggs "pop." in the mouth. I was very happy. Next came the borscht. It had cabbage, beets, potatoes, and either beef or pork. I'm not sure which one. The meat , beets and potatoes was very tender, and the soup was delicious and not too rich. A very satisfying flavor., the beets gave it a little bit of an earthy flavor. The sour cream that came with it, just added a creamy richness to it without overtaking the flavor of the borscht. 1000% a home run. Dinner wasn't cheap. Two dishes, two iced teas (I found out they charge for refills), and tax, and it came out to about $48 before tip, .I didn't care. I don't mind paying extra if the food is that good, and this food was absolutely beyond awesome. I would be glad to come back and try other items on the menu. Thank you!

The classic borsch is very dill heavy, but that was my favorite! The blintzes were also delicious and came with a tangy yogurt/cream sauce. For entrees, we shared the chicken stroganoff with buckwheat and Cornish hen with mashed potatoes. The hen was incredibly tender with a dill gravy, and the buckwheat was perfect with the stroganoff. Overall really delicious dishes and a beautiful indoor environment! Also the service was incredible and the owner was very kind in explaining to us the dishes.

I'm not a huge fan of Russian food but like with any banquet, some dishes are better than others. The pickles were fantastic. Salads were fresh. I really liked the smoked fish platter as well. I also enjoyed the chicken shashlik and the Russian-style potatoes with mushrooms. Very good but a bit oily, just like grandma would make. Service was good too. They dealt with a 15-person party very well and we're very accommodating. Inside isn't anything special. It definitely has dacha vibes which add to the whole experience overall.
