I've been coming to Yiasou Estiatorio for years, and it never disappoints. The food here is consistently incredible fresh, flavorful, and deeply authentic. The meal always starts with warm, soft bread served with herbs and a generous pour of true Greek olive oil. It's the perfect way to begin, and the olive oil is so rich and high quality, it instantly transports you to the Mediterranean. The Greek salad is a staple for me bright, crisp, and refreshing. It's the ultimate summer dish with juicy tomatoes, cucumbers, olives, and that perfect tang of feta. Every bite tastes like sunshine. The kalamarakia (fried calamari) is always fresh and never fishy light, crispy, and perfectly seasoned. The saganaki is another must: golden and crispy on the outside, with gooey, melted cheese inside, lightly drizzled with honey. It's a beautiful balance of salty and sweet, crunchy and soft. But my absolute favorite dish is the zucchini chips. I've never had better not even in Greece! They're unbelievably good: perfectly crispy, thin, and addictively seasoned. I could eat an entire plate on my own every time. They also come with the best tzatziki dip. For mains, I usually go with the seabass, which I believe is imported, and it's always incredibly fresh clean, delicate, and full of flavor. What can I say about Yiasou that I and others haven't said before? My latest visit was to reunite two old dear friends: Pete the owner with John, one of his workers from 20 years ago at the then Manhattan great Gardenia Restaurant. John has the Greek-style seafood linguini and I had the prawns masquerading as "langoustines" ($50per lb). We shared the mixed salad and fried calamari too. For desert we enjoyed fresh watermelon and the balance of the bottle of Greek red we ordered (is drink red with everything) while watching the seemingly endless parade of pedestrians strolling back and forth on harbor side Emmons Ave. What a wonderful evening... read more

More Green/Mediterranean food. Went here with a friend and enjoyed what we had. Great food, albeit a little salty, high prices, but that is Emmons Ave in Sheepshead Bay for you. It was also pretty busy, however that is to be expected at it was Father's Day and a long holiday weekend. The portions are generous, especially the appetizers, which you could make a full meal out of. Our server was nice, but clearly the staff was disorganized and not ready to handle the busy crowds. At least they got nothing wrong with anything we ordered and when I asked for her suggestions she was spot on with accuracy with the taste of everything. As usual, do not fill up on bread! This is the most dishonest restaurant I've ever been to and I've been to a lot. I barely write bad reviews because I don't want to mess with people's livelihood but they stole our money. They add a tip without even even noting it on the check and then they create a phony check with their own signature. They stole my friends money who contributed for the check and added it to the tip on top of that making 240 dollar tip that was never agreed upon while charging us the full amount. They saw we were overwhelmed with babies and took advantage. These people are thief's and I'll make sure to tell everyone to avoid them like the plague. My husband and I became regular here. It's so nice a cosy inside with that light Greek music playing very delicately without interfering with our conversation. Corvina fish is a must to try! So delicious! We usually order filet but you can go for the whole fish as well. Service is always great and waiters are very helpful and attentive. We love Lolita, and others are great too. The food is excellent. I came here many years ago and the food was great then. Came back now on a girl's night. We were not disappointed. I had the shrimp scampi and grilled octopus. Sooo good. It's a nice big place that appears to be family run. They also have a very talented saxophone player. Can you imagine happy birthday being played to you instead of sung at you in discordant tones? It's a real treat. My only regret is not getting the flaming cheese... I just didn't have any room. Go there, have fun. read more

My husband and a good friend were out on a Friday night and originally wanted to go somewhere else on Emmons Avenue... however when we drove by we noticed it was packed and decided to keep driving... We saw Yiasou and decided to eat here. Upon entry we were immediately greeted by a friendly hostess. An older man also got up and greeted us, he proceeded to have the waiters clean a table which a party had just left. They swiftly changed the linens and sanitized the chairs and we were seated. The menus are disposable paper and the print is small, but understandable with all the CDC guidelines... We finally decided to order. I ordered grilled spinach with feta cheese and grilled squid! The grilled squid was amazing! Perfectly cooked, tender, in lemon with olive oil. The spinach was yummy with warm feta cheese. We also ordered a hearty Greek salad that was so delicious that it made us order a second serving. The lemon potatoes were deliciously roasted, soft, with a lemon bite to it. Everyone was wearing masks and gloves... I entered the restaurant to use the restroom and look around... I noticed everyone inside and in the kitchen wearing gloves, masks, and hand sanitizers available at a few tables. Despite it being late on a Friday night, it was very clean inside... This place had me wanting to call the suicide hotline. My husband paid 100+ for bland, colorless, flavorless food that a child could have prepared better. The rice tasted like microwaveable rice with too much water. The fish tasted like cardboard with three salt particles. The Cornish hen tasted like it came out of a laboratory. Bad experience on Mother's Day . What happened is the owner lady had a bad attitude telling me . MOVE YOUR Stroller ! You don't talk to people like that! Not my first time here, but it's been awhile since I've been here and I have to say there's a reason why I came back! Food was very good and coming here on a summer night (sitting outdoors) is a must with the bay nearby. I had the grilled chicken with the potatoes and it was wayyyyy better than I expected for a Sheepshead Bay restaurant. I've lived in Sheepshead Bay all my life and was pleasantly surprised at how good the food actually was here. The chicken was juicy and soft. The potatoes were more like sliced pieces of a baked potato, but nonetheless was still delicious with the pepper on it. Finally, the vegetables were my favorite part of the whole dish. The onions were seasoned extremely well, crispy, yet just soft enough. The carrots and pepper were a nice addition as well. For dessert, I had the baklava and it was something different that I rarely have eaten, but it was excellent too. Moreover, the tea was not served hot, I am not sure if it was warm on purpose or if it sat in the kitchen too long before being served. Came here with friends for a friendly get together. The dishes are expertly prepared. With Octopus salad being the best one I think. Even considering that it is not the main course. The party was big so we ordered much of the menu. With Lamb Chops heading up the meat dishes and many varieties of fish. Everything was enjoyable even though I found it a bit overpriced especially the wines. So the availability of BYOB is great. I also think that prices are a bit high though the location may be to blame for this. Ok so I will preface this review by saying the food in this place is consistently good. HOWEVER, the customer service is ABYSMAL. This is the second time that they have messed up Mother's Day for me. Last year I put an order for pick up through the Yelp app and when I went to pick it up at the agreed upon time was told that they were not checking the app because they were too busy and so my order couldn't be made. This is mostly a seafood restaurant not really a Greek restaurant. We should have driven to Bay Ridge where they have good Greek restaurants. This place had 1 chicken dish, which was not the best as it was slightly overcooked. Small portions and not worth the money. Just because its in Sheepshead Bay does not mean they should give such small portions for their prices. My daughter had a small Greek salad and it was $16, which was mostly tomatoes & onions. The feta cheese part was good though. The restaurant was pretty empty, we were mostly ignored by the waiters. My husband had lamb which was not attractive as it was swimming in a brown liquid of I don't know what. can of diet coke was $3.50 and it was just put on table with a glass of ice. Food was good and simple but what we didn't like was for the fish menu, they write market price. Chris took care of us and I must say he did a great job. He WS so attentative and it seemed all he wanted to do was please everyone. Started out with appetizers, beets, hummus, and other smear items on toasted pita bread. The went to the octopus, calamari, and other stuff. Also had a nice salad, well seasoned. The meal was Buffett style, with fish, lamb chops, steak, with all the accoutrements such as broccoli, rice and other stuff. All the initial food was flavorful and there is no question how good the food is. The desserts were a smorgasbord of baklava, cheese cake, tortufo, and other stuff. Then went with capaccino or other coffees.. in between you have different wines to your liking. In the end, had a couple of shots of chilled vodka and cognac. Oh, Yiasou, why you do this to me with the service? Maybe I'll go from good to bad, because, let's face it, this was an open-faced turd sandwich of an experience, with a very thin slice of bread and a rather slick slab of crap. First of all, the food at Yiasou is very good: 4-star-out-of-5-worthy, no doubt about it, though undeniably overpriced. The mixed spreads are delectable (that skordalia potato-garlic spread!), the octopus is chewy and succulent, and the saganaki (when it emerged, an hour after we finished our entrees*) was mouthwatering. We also ordered the Horiatiki (basic Greek salad with feta), which I always love (though a rather small portion for the price). The calamari was also pretty good, but always a bridesmaid to my first love, the aforementioned grilled octopus. The entrees also did not disappoint (other than the sheer unavailability of our first choices). My swordfish was meaty with a perfectly subtle touch of lemon and capers and my brother and parents were pretty happy with the rice pilaf dish (kind of a paella). The SO did not have room left to attack the salmon after those appetizers, but it looked reliable. Sides were a little humdrum, with a veggie medley (which I got to try only because they got my order wrong), rice, or potato. The house bread came out warm each time and kept us going for the long stretches of time that passed between food deliveries*. What really soured the whole experience, and seems to have become the only obstacle to my liking and endorsing Yiasou, is the horrendous service management. Exhibit 1: Our reservation was for 7 pm on Mother's Day Sunday. We arrived on time. Several recently abandoned tables were still littered with remnants from earlier parties and remained so during our wait. We waited 15-20 minutes to be sat and had to remind the maitre d' that we were still there at least once. Exhibit 2: When the maitre d'Yiassou finally rejoined us outside to (sort of) welcome us in, she immediately twisted her face at the sight of my mom's Mother's day bouquet. "Lilacs?" She exclaimed in Russian. "I'm allergic...can you get them out of here?" "Where would you have me take them?" I replied. "Your car?" "I took the train here, I don't have a car." We looked at each other, unsure how to proceed. "Look," I finally said, "YOU need to figure this out, not me." This made sense and she waved us in reluctantly. Exhibit 3: As soon as we sat down, we were promptly forgotten. I took out a BYOB wine and, after some deliberation with family over whether or not they would open it and/or charge corkage, I answered the question by pouring the twist-off wine out to the only thing that WAS on the table: glasses. After 20 minutes or so, my brother had to get up to track down a waiter for menus. [Tentative apologies.] After another 20 minutes, he got up to ask for water and Perrier was eventually brought. [More apologies] After ~40 minutes, we were able to order off the menu and the bread was brought later. Step, repeat, step repeat. The waiter himself was very nice and patient, but he was doing the best he could servicing way too many tables and parties. It was obvious that the management either did not anticipate a Mother's Day rush or makes it a point to skimp on waitstaff regardless of volume (based on other reviews, I suspect the latter). Neither strategy seems particularly prudent or fair to the customers. If they want to get business off reputation rather than just bay-side location, I would re-examine such logistical decisions. read more

Nice family owned Greek restaurant that specializes in seafood. Very clean, and friendly. The owner is always present and personally greets you. Their best dishes are seafood, in particular fish. Have been to this place on multiple occasions, and never disappoints. During my last visit I had Oktopodi Scharas for an appetizer, which is a grilled octopus with capers in olive oil and vinegar. Was very good. Also had mussels braised in white wine, loved it. For main course I had their grilled halibut with spinach, potatoes and other veggies. Now, I'm not much of a fish lover, but every time I eat here, I order fish because their fish is delicious. Nice place to come here with family as well. The staff are very attentive and friendly, service is great. Nothing negative to say about this place. Prices are very fair for the amount and the quality of the food you receive. Very disappointed! Perhaps I should've stuck with meat dishes as opposed to seafood, but if you have it on the menu, you have to know how to cook it well. It's hard to make a choice with so many restaurants now on Emmons Avenue. I have been to this restaurant a few years ago and we decided to try it again. It has a beautiful atmosphere with many Greek themed pictures on the wall and Greek music playing over the speakers. Being it was a little bit early we scored a choice table outside. The menu has so many choices and everything sounded so delicious. I decided on the marinated baby lamb chops with vegetables, and my friend had linguini with huge shrimp. Everything was cooked perfectly and the portions were ample. The wine list was also extensive. The service was wonderful and we were not rushed at all and lingered with dessert and wine.
