My husband and I started with the octopus, soft shell crab, and a variety of their dips for appetizers, and each dish was absolutely delicious. For our entrées, we had the whole dorado and the lamb chops--both were chef's kiss! Our bartender, Tristan, was warm, attentive, and clearly a pro--the margaritas were spot-on perfect. The owner, Pete, also took the time to say hello, which made the experience feel even more personal. This spot is a true staple in the Bay Ridge area. Honestly, I could hang out here all the time. My family came here to eat and it was a wonderful experience. I got the lamb and it was so tender it fell right off the bone. The spreads were delicious. The food is pricey but what you pay you will be rewarded with delicious food. The service was great. I forgot the waiters name but he was very personable. I really wanted to like this place. Came here to celebrate a work anniversary. A definite treat yourself kind of evening. Or so we thought... Interior Elia's interiors are thoughtful and beautiful. Feels sophisticated but approachable. They have a nice back patio - last I checked it wasn't open air. Ambiance We were here on a weekday and it was very very loud. Seating could benefit from putting bigger parties away from parties of 2. They clearly have their loyal patrons that they cater to more wholeheartedly. Drinks I'd say skip the cocktails. Not particularly memorable and pricey. They have a large wine selection but I didn't get into that - loudness of restaurant made it hard to think. Food We shared the Fried Calamari and Avgolemono soup. The fried calamari dish was plentiful but probably had 8 pieces of calamari. The rest were random vegetables - literally random. There was one chickpea that got fried. Kind of want to high 5 the fry person. It was a good fry but not what I was expecting. The portion for the soup was LARGE. Like couldn't-finish-it-and-felt-silly-taking-it-home big. I believe they have an appetizer size which wasn't offered - so that could have been better. I went for the lamb shank as an entree. The dish was beautiful visually. One bite out of the orzo and wow super heavy on the tomato's. I actually couldn't eat it - had to steal food from my companion's plate because by the time the food came out I was starving. The lamb was tender but very over seasoned. Disappointing because it was a nice cut of lamb. Reservations Make one. Otherwise get seated by the sad table across the bar that everyone walking in passes by and talks over your food. Waiter A nice person, but didn't seem committed to our table. Clearly there was bigger parties which I understand but we ordered $200 worth of food and drink. I recommend starting with their spreads with pita bread. One spread is $9 or pick 3 for $18. I picked three (red pepper with feta, hummus and their cucumber yogurt). I think they make the best hummus. I would deff come back to try more of their spreads. For their entree I got their lamb ravioli and I wish it has a little more filling. I came to this restaurant on 2 seperate occasions. When you walk in there is a distinct smell of rotten fish, very offsetting. We got the same waiter both times and we have a very hard time understanding his english. Even when we ask him to repeat what he said it's still hard to decipher. The food is ok. Spanakopita was very oily to the point that you have to pat it down. The bread came out like 20 minutes after we were seated. The salmon in phyllo dough and rice ball were so greasy it was hard to get them down. I'm not exaggerating, they were oil logged. Octopus was a little undercooked. Paella was decent but it was more pretty then tasty. I've had better at local spots. Prices are really high. I paid like $300 for 4 people with no alcohol, just apps and entree, no desert. My sister in law was allergic to mostly all of the menu, we are group of 3. We already placed an order of $120 dollars of food that night. 2 entrees, 3 appetizers, 3 drinks. We were hungry. Dont even have a good picture of food, without all of our arms, napkins, squeezed on the small table. CHEAPO AND DISRESPECTFUL. I was visiting NY a while ago and heard that the food was really good. I was excited to check it out since I love Greek food and love to support small businesses. Unfortunately, the service was awful except for the bartender who was so sweet. I had ordered a martini and she apologized for it being incorrect since her boss wouldn't let her put vermouth in it or shake it like a proper martini. Her boss kept yelling at her while we were there which was extremely unprofessional. The head waiter had a stick up his ass and couldn't be bothered answering my questions about a few items on the menu. So rude! I wanted to leave but my cousin didn't want to make a scene and begged me to stay. Ugh! I downed my lame drink and ordered the spinach pie which was buttery, fluffy and delicious. The lamb shank melted in my mouth. Yes, the food was good, however, I overheard the owner telling the wait staff to rush all patrons out so he could turn tables over faster. Wow! We wanted to try this place for a while after craving homecooked greek food for so long. Also ordered house wine and beer with a couple of hearty moussaka on a cold rainy April night and it was perfection. Ive to admit it was one of the best greek meal experiences I've had in my life, and I'm super picky. The sample spread appetizer was divine. The house béchamel sauce is absolutely superb with well seasoned meat (a bit oily in the bottom for my taste, but yet very good) it was a flavorful balance. Can't wait to try their fish next. There's a full bar, great friendly staff, amazing service, fairly priced, and great ambiance for family or friends. We Will definitely be back! Have been going to Elia for years now and it never disappoints. It's perfect for going with one other person, or with a group and doing a bunch of shared plates. Make sure to get the taramosalata spread with the grilled pita (so fresh), the octopus, and the cheese saganaki!! The beet salad is very refreshing too. The specials are always amazing. Only a review for delivery during COVID-19 horrible, 2 hrs 15 min later everything cold, so disappointed not even good seemed old overcooked and not fresh! Overpriced and awful! driver came with no change! They wouldn't take a card which I was only told after I had given my card when they took the order which was my first of 3 calls asking where our food was... Food arrived cold, grilled squid and calamari both cold rubbery and fishy, beet salad seemed old, meatballs way over cooked hockey pucks, saganaki definately the worst soggy cheese with a sandy texture, cold ribs (great taste and render so unfortunate), also had roasted veggies and cous cous nothing to even write about, tomato salad was tiny way over priced JUST AWFUL, I called for manager 2x noone available and hung up on. While the food is great it is very expensive and not really authentic. For example the lamb chops tasted good but were way overpriced and not grilled like Greek lamb chops. Lots of dishes were actually similar to Greek but made in a different way, I assume to justify the high price. For example, the rizogalo (rice pudding) on the menu was the least Greek thing and was only rizogalo in name and was way over priced. I enjoyed the meal but I really wouldn't go back as I've eaten at better Greek places that were more authentic and a lot cheaper. read more

Probably one of the worst experiences I've ever had, and I'm not one to ever complain/write a review. Went to Elia's twice and I regret even thinking that going a second time would make up for the first. TO CLARIFY : Elia is NOT a Michelin star restaurant but is Michelin rated but their prices and the conceited owner seems to believe they are. How this place got Michelin rated is beyond me. Outrageous prices on mediocre dishes that a freshman in culinary school could make. Their drinks are overpriced. $15 for a simple drink. Doesn't even have a proper cocktail menu. My first time I had visited, a staff member was cleaning up some broken glass and the obnoxious old waiter kept snapping and yelling at her to get his drinks to his table. If you've never visited Elia's, it is a small hole in the wall. It's very easy to hear anyone's conversation. The things the older spanish waiter was saying to the girl was rude and mean. I felt terrible for her as she looked visibly upset at his remarks. After waiting 10 minutes for the waiter to give me a menu (again small place, wasn't busy, can't seem to understand why it took him 10 minutes to hand me a menu), I had some questions about the specials and the old rude waiter proceeded to tell 'this is a nice place, don't ask me for prices'. Left unsatisfied, and I should have never came back. The second and last time I'll ever visit the owner was present and indulging himself at the bar. As I ate with a friend from out of town we proceeded to hear him make snide comments at the bartender and the young waitress working that day. Tried to mind my business and continue to try and enjoy my dinner. The last straw was when he made an awfully crude comment on a customer. Calling her a skank, and made a remark about 'someone dressed like that doesn't belong in my restaurant.' after she left. I was shocked, and couldn't believe what I heard. ABSOLUTELY OUTRAGED. Owner is misogynistic, and rude. Will never, ever support this establishment again. If you respect yourself, you wouldn't either. read more

I went with my family and the owner came to our table and chatted with us for 5 minutes. It was a small gesture, but it really went a long way and made our experience that much better. We ate there tonight (a slow Wednesday) with a friend we haven't seen in years. The food was mediocre and overpriced, but the real reason for the 1-star review is the rude manager who, moments after the waiter picked up our check, came over to the table and asked us to leave because he "had people waiting" - while there were at least 5 empty tables. What a terrible way to treat customers, especially after we spent $150 for dinner (with one appetizer and two drinks). I've never experienced anything like it. I LOVE Elia! My favorite restaurant in Bay Ridge and one of my faves in South Brooklyn. The food is always delicious, I think I could manage to polish off 2 orders of the grilled octopus by myself but there's so much else to eat! The beet salad is a nice change and I happen to love beets. If you enjoy calamari they do it 2 ways and both ways are delicious. Those are just some of the appetizers I always enjoy and we usually get some of the spreads for the table. Great seafood dishes like the Seafood Yuvetsi and the King Salmon wrapped in Phyllo or just a simple Grilled Branzio and of course grilled Lamb Chops or Moussaka are more traditional options. It is always a treat to come here for the delicious food and attentive service. We had a nice dinner with family (three small children included). We had an earlier reservation so we had the restaurant all to ourselves for a bit (at 6pm). However, towards the end of our dinner, the restaurant was packed! We started dinner sharing appetizers including the fried calamari greek style with fried lemons, basil, chickpeas, and thin onion rings. The octopus appetizer is skillfully cooked, the octopus was perfectly tender. We also had the saganaki (flaming Greek cheese) which is paired with sweet figs. The zucchini chips were also nice - lightly fried and sprinkled with the right amount of salt. For dinner, we had a wide array of entrees including lamb shops, lamb shank, while branzino, king salmon, and mousaka. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the food. I can speak to two dishes I tried. The king salmon special was cooked perfectly on a bed of creamed corn and a light tomato broth. The branzino was paired nicely with light lemony sauce. We will gladly be back again! read more

We usually trek it to Astoria for authentic Greek food, but Elia was recommended to us by a Greek woman who we met on a flight back from England, who swore that this place was definitely the best Greek food we would ever have...so of course we had to give it a try:) and we definitely were not disappointed. I wouldn't say they offer "traditional" Greek food. It's more a gourmet spin on the traditional. The ambiance is much warmer and welcoming than Stamatis or Taverna Kyklades which are busting at the seams on a Saturday night. This was more like being invited into someone's home. The food was AMAZING! We had grilled octopus, meatballs and grilled calamari for apps. They were all yummy, (though I will say that the octopus still didn't quite match what you'll be given at Stamatis, where it's worth the trek to Astoria just for that.) For the mains we had lamb chops, seafood paella and the fish specials. All of them were delicious. We ate everything, short of licking the plate for crumbs. A little pricey, but you get what you pay for. We will definitely return and are looking forward to it. For someone like me who cannot eat gluten or dairy, I had a lot of solid options and enjoyed all of them immensely. read more
