Service was very friendly and helpful, even came out to ask if I had questions about ingredients, preparation, etc... not only did the menu have asterisks next to the gluten free options, there were so many choices! Ooooh, so that is why the food is so good! Simply Greek is a restaurant I used to frequent when I lived in New Jersey, and now that I see they have a location in Park Slope I am even more excited because the food is still really good. Everything tastes fresh and the portions are fairly generous, for Park Slope standards. I liked the complementary pita and olives as they help make what you are about to eat more digestible, considering dairy, a large part of the Greek cuisine, is hard on most peoples' stomachs. It is hard to find a bad food item as all of it looks tasty. I got myself the lemon chicken soup and was very impressed with the lighter flavor of this soup, that has good chunks of chicken and carrots. The lemon carries a nice note of tang. This is not a heavy soup even though most restaurants go heavy on the eggs to thicken the broth. Yes, I am looking at you Pitharia. For my entree I got the Lamb Burger. Take it from me, do not get this more cooked than medium. Overcooking lamb makes the meat dry, tough, and rubbery. This is not ground beef. Medium is the highest you want to go for this cut. Therefore it still retains plenty of flavor when you have it, and the lamb just melts in your mouth after that first bite. My server was great too. She was attentive and made sure I had a great experience. It was a little on the pricey side, but worth it for the tasty food and good vibes. I also can appreciate it is not too far from the Union Street stop on the R train or the 4th Ave/9th Street stop on the F/G/R lines. I ordered takeout and was pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the items. Eggplant dip - Also excellent. Not your typical eggplant dip, the vegetables really shine through. Love the fresh cucumbers & lemon. Everything here is fresh. The food is packed with flavor and texture. The kabobs were average in size but the dessert was large. Really kind service! There was one worker who is always ready to pour us more water. Our meal came with complimentary olive bread, and it was my first time having actual olives in my bread. This bread was what got me gravitating towards olive oil anything now. The same goes for their amazing Greek salad, which I think was a side. Something is in their juicy sweet tomatoes, they were so good. Our actual dishes we ordered were ok. The Branzino ($32) was well flavored, a little salty here and there. I had gotten this from the raving review on this fish, but it unfortunately didn't have the same effect on me. I had better Chicken Souvlaki Platter ($30). Spread platter had hummus, babaghanoush, tzatziki, spicy feta, and a cold mashed potato salad. All solid dips. Came with plenty of pita to dip. Salad ingredients were diced into large chunks, so it was tough to get everything into one bite; however, I thought the flavor profile was on point. Items were pricey at $24 for the platter and $18 for the salad, but the portions were large and justified the price. We were also full after just sharing those two items. Even had a little to take home. Service was attentive and quick. Waitress checked up on us a few times and was very polite. Seats were comfortable and tables were well spaced. Simply Greek doesn't compare to the scene there, but it's a pleasant experience. Food was fine, atmosphere was good. To start we shared the dolmades and the assorted spreads. Spreads were really good, dolmades were okay. Next came the saganaki which is a must, it was probably my favorite dish of the night. The beet salad was huge and fresh but slightly plain. I always order grilled octopus in Greek restaurants so I got it here. It was fine. Missing lemon. My husband had the chicken souvlaki platter and there was so much meat. I've been to the restaurant at least a dozen times and it's great- great food and service. but their delivery is less than mediocre. we live just a few blocks away but always an hour and a half and soggy food. (only highlighting partial parts of order due to brevity) I decided on the mixed platter convo with chicken and lamb and was eating that jawn for 3 days. It came with lots of food. The meats were seasoned very well. Not dry but oh so tender. I had both fleshy and the fatty parts of the lamb! Wow. Yes. So glad I came across this lovely establishment. First off, the customer service here is worth mentioning. I called ahead of placing my order for delivery bc I had a question about the size of their Branzino. Their menu only specified weight and how the fish was prepared for the Dorade and Sea Bass. It may seem minuscule but the lovely lady who picked up the phone had such wonderful phone etiquette. Not only did she answer my question but she also offered extra information which was super helpful. It's very rare to find that nowadays, unless you're dining somewhere super fancy, like extremely rare. It made me sad that I was ordering for delivery lol, I literally can't wait to go in person. After I placed my order, it was immediately assigned to a courier who had a very questionable/suspicious profile. No profile picture, no delivery history and no rating. I've had issues with stolen orders in the past & they were already there waiting to pick it up. I immediately called and spoke with a lovely gentleman, who again, was super helpful! I asked him not to give my order to the courier (who he said was a man but on my end their name was Kimberly) while I waited for Uber to reassign it. I have no doubt in my mind I would've never received my order otherwise. Now for the food, this will be short and sweet. I got the Branzino and chose their Lemon Potatoes as my side. Amazing. It took everything in me not to order the octopus because it's my FAVEEEEEE but I decided to save it for when I go in person. Man oh man, that fish was so fu*king good. Cooked perfectly. Idk what it is about Mediterranean style seafood but they for sure know what they're doing. It was deboned and so flaky. Those capers? Perfect. Squeeze of lemon? Perfecter. The lemon potatoes are super lemony which is exactly how I like them. If that's not your cup of tea, skip it. I was a little weary because at first glance, they looked a little mushy but they were so good. I do prefer a little more of crust on mine though. Mother's Day and the request from one mother was - take me to the Simply Greek for an early dinner around the corner. So two (actually three generations) of our family is on the way (I think my son made a reservation). Me and my son ordered Souvlaki Combo Plater- both chicken and lamb sticks, I went with Lemon Potatoes , he - with fries. We both agreed that chicken tasted better, lamb was on a dry side. Still it's a huge plate with 4 sticks of meat, plus a Greek salad. We have to take home some sticks, so much food. My boss and our daughter in law decided to take Mousaka, another great dish, kind of like Greek lasagna. Our grandson enjoyed Kids grilled cheese with fries. One star off - grapes leaves from appetizers menu was not available, also our first choice Mythos beer was out, so we have to go with a Fix - Greek lager. Every time I have dined here the food and staff have been outstanding, but they went above and beyond for a large party I organized for about a dozen adults and five kids. For dinner, I had the pork souvlaki with lemon potatoes. So juicy and flavorful- highly recommend! My fiancé had the moussaka which he loved! REVIEW FROM AN ACTUAL GREEK PERSON: friends and neighbors, it has been a very long time since I have found GOOD Greek food. My grandma passed in 2004 and she was an absolute magician in the kitchen. Her food was legendary and is still talked about to this day. So to say I have high standards would be an understatement. Nothing has come close, including most of the places I've tried in Astoria. That is why I am very glad to have found this new, incredible establishment in the neighborhood. It is located on 5th between President and Carroll. I ordered delivery from here a couple times - once the skirt steak and once the rack of lamb - and both times everything was so great that I decided to stop by in person. The flavors were phenomenal and everything was cooked perfectly. They even use the correct amount of lemon in their lemon potatoes (a ton). They also know how to make a Greek salad the way they do in Greece - no lettuce and a stack of vegetables with a big block of feta on top. And not only do they have great food, but they have beautiful decor, street seating, and a lovely little deck in back. I've been to other "Greek" restaurants in the neighborhood and the food and the prices are way off. This is truly the spot for authentic Greek and we are so lucky to have it. read more
