Went to a book launch down the block and ferried to Bay Ridge for it. Heard this spot js the best in the neighborhood and everyone's right. Loved their octopus green salad so much, as did the gyro platter with the garlic dip. Huge portions and got about five meals out of it. Shoutout to Billy Joe who was so kind and helpful and funny too, helped suggestthe best dishes to order. How have I never been in here before??? I used to stan Spartan Souvlaki on 8th Avenue so hard. I've been looking for Greek fries and a spinach pie that can hold a candle to Spartan's ever since. Well this is their offspring - literally. The son of Spartan's owner seemed to take everything he learned at his father's restaurant and make it his own for this Bay Ridge location where he branched out solo. The owner Louie is superrr friendly and his food is so yummy. I really appreciate how the chicken sticks are cooked all the way through and seasoned so well, I love the tomato salad (hello salty feta cheese! If it ain't salty, I don't want it), and I'm told the spinach pie is made fresh to order (it was delicious). There are tables to eat-in, they can handle large catering orders, plus have an absolutely adorable back patio area for patrons or private parties. I was told the patio can hold about 30 people and there's a television out there! It would be a great party space if a game or fight is on - or even a birthday celebration. I also love that you can see very openly how clean they keep everything. Even the outdoor patio is spotless. I walked in thinking I was going to be blown away. I walked out being less than impressed. So the restaurant bills itself as a gyro shop. Cool. But they had other things on the menu that tempted me, so I went with the four meat combo, and of the four meats, only two of them are any good. Keep reading to find out which were the two hits, and the two misses. Pork skewer: Bone dry. Minimal flavor and was like eating shoe leather. Not for those with sensitive teeth. Chicken skewer: Juicy meat with lots of flavor, the lemon comes through strong. Probably pretty good with a sandwich, but it works well solo. Locanico: Before today, I had never heard of Greek sausage. This is it. I was not a fan. Too sweet, not a huge fan of the flavor, it did not work for me. This is something I figured was going to either be a boom or bust. It ended up being the latter. Gyro meat: This is supposed to be their pride. They give you the most of this meat and for good reason. It goes down easy, and pairs well with a lot of their other foods. Put some tzatziki sauce on there because it makes this meat taste delicious. The combo also comes with a Greek salad, which is quite oily and messy, and some pita which balances out some of the wet with the dry. Definitely get a Ginger Ale to save your stomach from turning upside down. It also comes with a choice of side, I chose lemon potato wedges. Like the chicken, they go heavy on the lemon, quite strongly. It knocked me back a few feet. The service is okay. My waitress was cute and patient with all the questions I asked her, and the owner (Mets fan) was a nice guy once he observed I too am a Mets fan. It is nice to see he likes sports as a whole. Now that I know what to expect, I will choose more wisely here moving forward. read more

When the man and I are uber famished, we'll order some lemon potatoes, as well. The Gyros are precisely what you would want and expect in a gyro; - a pinch of crisp lettuce and diced tomato for some variation in texture - fresh, crunchy, diminutive cubes of cucumber - creamy, garlicky tzatziki sauce - close to a half-pound of flavourfuly seasoned gyro meat, encompassed by a - fresh, soft but sturdy, chewy, warm pita bread ...and for just $2 more, this generously stuffed sandwich comes with a large order of french fries! Those Lemon Potatoes, though... Oh... Those lemon potatoes... You can taste the time and effort put into making these cubed pieces of tender, zesty taters. They're rich, they've got just enough seasoning, and a generous amount of lemon; an authentic dish! Had a farewell get together at Olives & Pita, which was recommended by a friend. The indoor dining area is not very large, but there is an outdoor patio for warmer days. Our party had the loukaniko Greek sausage, grilled octopus, and chicken soup for appetizers. For the main, we ordered the Meat Combo, Shrimp Souvlaki with lemon potatoes (up charge), and the gyro side platter with fries. I must admit that the gyro and octopus were stupendous, rivaling the flavors of Santorini. First time we' tried the Loukaniko and it was seasoned just perfectly. The lemon potatoes were delightful. The shrimp was over grilled and burnt after we had a few pieces. When we complained about this, the server brought out two new skewers for us. This was very much appreciated. The server was very helpful and checked on us occasionally to see if we needed anything. We also noted that the prices, at the time of this post, were quite reasonable compared to many other restaurants. Will surely be back in the future. read more

This new spot popped up early in the pandemic and I'd wanted to stop in and try for quite some time. Glad that I finally did. Ordered a nice variety of the menu. Chicken Souvlaki dinner platter was super juicy and hearty pieces of chicken. You can choose between rice, salad or fries. Personally felt for $22 the salad side should have been included with the option of rice or fries. The dinner platter didn't feel like much of a 'platter' with just the rice and chicken. To add some veggies to my plate I ordered a side of chickory (Horta) which was new for me. Sautéed style with a lemony flavor. Enjoyed it. Added a side of lemon potatoes and wow. That hit the spot. Second entree was a Gyro Sandwich with fries. The Gyro sandwich didn't come with lettuce or onions. Just meat and pita which was not expected so ended up adding chickory to it from the side dish. All in all a solid meal. Just wish they were a little more generous with veggies as sides or garnishes. This could have helped to add more texture or dimension to the food. Service was great. I guess they should have ranked-choice voting for which entree to choose at Louie's. It was an unexpectedly fierce battle as the eponymous front-runner nearly lost to the locanico, before I stuck with my adage that you have to order the thing that's in the restaurant's name. They also have combos. The gyro was great. Perhaps more surprising was the success on the vegetable front. The lemon potatoes are stellar, their sauce providing a fine accompaniment to pita or anything else you feel like dousing. And the excellent tomato salad revives an old mystery - some restaurants have great food because of a 90-year-old family recipe or years of practice, but the secret formula is "buy really good tomatoes" why isn't anyone else doing this? Very much in tune with summer 2021, there's a delightful backyard plus a couple of tables in the front. The service was outstanding. read more

Amazing food and service! I had a gyro salad and shared lemon potatoes. This was my first Bay Ridge post covid dining out experience, and I'm SO HAPPY we chose this place!!! Uh....yeah...AMAZING food. Some of the best Greek food I've ever had, has been in Bay Ridge. Actually, I had previously said that the BEST Gyro I ever had was in Bay Ridge. Today, Louie's has unseated the champion! Great counter service, cool outdoor space in the back, and it popped out in under 5 mins. That's just the service. To me, the key to a good gyro starts with the pita (or whatever the bread part is called) and this was done to perfection. It has to have the PERFECT amount of "toasting"/grilling to it, and this was perfectly done. If it sounds like I'm obsessive about this stuff, it's because I know a good....nay...GREAT Gyro when my lips meat one. (see what I did there?) I am convinced that someone's Yiayia is in the back kitchen prepping and cooking their food because this is the most authentic Greek restaurant I have found in Bay Ridge so far. Other Greek spots don't even come close to the authenticity of the gyro meat, pita, seasonings, lemonades patates and salads that they do here at Louie's. My husband and I were craving gyros and ordered in to try them out. Everything was delicious and the portions were generous enough that it ended up being two meals for the price of one. The leftovers re-heat well and were just as tasty the next day - like a good, home-cooked Greek meal would be. I love this new Greek spot! It will definitely be my go-to from now on. The Pork, the Tomato's, the Pita, and the Tzatziki were all very good. The French Fries were a bit undercooked, and a bit salty. My bill with a can of Seltzer was $15.24. I can't eat gluten so I ordered a chicken souvlaki sandwich plate, no pita. The order taker wasn't sure why I would bother ordering a sandwich without bread so I had to explain my embarrassing miserable curse allergy which she doesn't understand so I said I would do it myself, it was ok. She said they would put the bread on the side. The food arrived. Looked good. Mine was in pita, but there was enough tzakiki to rebuild on a plate. Tzatziki was great and garlicky. chicken was good but another diner got a wooden piece. The gyro was terrific, I am jealous cuz breadcrumbs are a typically ingredient in gyro so I can't eat it. I would love to try again but am not sure what I can eat. Other minor issues: no answer first two calls. third call the charm. I forgot to mention the coupons on the flyer. I paid with a card for no contact delivery but was told to add the tip when I signed, thus negating the concept. I have heard very good things about this gyro place so I had to see for myself today. I went and got a gyro platter and tbh it was a good portion but the meat wasn't hot it seamed a bit old and didn't have much flavor. But the food overall was a 7/10. The service: I didn't like the service, I didn't feel welcomed when I came in even thought they did greet me with a hello. The lady who took my order had an attitude and was very aggressive when I asked simple questions about the menu. I felt very unwelcome because she had that attitude towards me, a CONSUMING and PAYING customer, I wasn't a hobo coming in asking for free food so I was very complexed on why she treated me that way, that's probably why it was empty and no business. read more

I have been wanting to check this place out ever since the sad loss of The Spartan and I recently had a chance to eat at Louie's Gyro. Overall the food is very good and a close approximation of what you'd get at the Spartan. I had been a customer at the Spartan since the very first week George opened years ago on the other side of the street! In fact I remember when he was originally going to open on 3rd Ave under the Gowanus but the building there had a problem. He opened on 8th and the rest is history! At Louie's we started with the locanico appetizer (mezze) and it was the same as the Spartan but served a little too well done. The large tomato salad was exactly the same as the old place with nice quality tomatoes, great quality feta kind of like Dodoni, red onion, a pepperoncini and kalamata olives all drizzled with Athena type oilve oil. Very nice! The warm pita on the side was perfect with that nice char to it. I always thought the Spartan had the best gyro I had ever tasted. It was way better then what you would typically find anywhere else. The gyro platter at Louie's is very good but not quite the same. The meat was more dry with less interesting texture / flavor complexity to it. The pilaf on the platter was classic and good. My partner ordered the pork souvlaki platter with fries and it was good but a little tough which can be a common problem with this dish in many places. The home made fries were excellent. Overall the place is very nice and the service was super fast and friendly. Looking forward to visiting Louie's again and checking out the great looking patates lemonates, tirokpita, horta and other items. Also looking forward to checking out their nice backyard garden seating when the weather is a little better! read more

Why have a two foot sign on your door asking for customers to wear a mask only to not have a SINGLE worker wear one ? I give half credit to one worker , she at least managed to have her's tucked under her chin . This sorta hypocrisy created uncomfortable looks from the moment I walked in as an avid mask wearer. If you're gonna put a sign like that on your door, at the very least ,your workers should put it on while talking to a customer . Either way , I still ended up ordering some food despite being moderately turned off. The chicken and lamb gyros were the go to choice and they took about 10 mins to prepare. Immediately after holding the takeout bag you could feel the heft . The gyros were stuffed with a lot of meat and fresh veggies . What I liked most was the wrap itself . It might have been homemade and had a really good flavor to it . The meats , particularly the chicken was seasoned well and was easily two plus meals . The lamb wasn't my favorite but that's just because I prefer chunks of lamb. The food wasn't exceptional but it was definitely solid and above average . You're guaranteed at-least two meals if you're a normal portion eater by buying from here and that bumped it up to 4 stars in my book . read more

We can't get over the quantity, quality and value you get on the gyro pita sandwich for 9.25, 10.75 with a side of fries. The gyros are enormous! So much juicy meat stuffed into a soft pita with generous amounts of HOMEMADE tzatziki sauce, tomatoes, lettuce and red onions. I've tried the (Greek) gyros in the neighborhood and this is by far the best! From the moment we walked in, we were greeted warmly by the friendly staff. Whether you dine in, take out or Uber eats it, the food is phenomenal and the portions are generous. My go-to meal is the gyro meat dinner with 2 sides. My sides are the lemon potatoes (+$2 up-charge but well worth it) and the garden salad. Their octopus is delicious. I've had it on salad or straight up as an appetizer, it's always on point. But my favorite thing has to be the spicy feta! Warm pita bread is given on the side with my gyro dinner and I smother that delicious spicy feta on there and start dancing in my seat as I'm eating. read more
