Hate to say this but now that the place has new ownership, the food has went down dramatically in quality and taste. I usually get chicken tikka with rice or lamb chops and always give a place at least three times to see if they were just having an off day or if the food has dramatically changed and after the last few visits, I will no longer be eating here. Came here to grab a chicken tikka masala bc I've been craving it with, had it with rice only and no salad. First of all what I got was grilled cubed chicken breasts, where is the sauce it should be swimming in? The chicken was under cooked and very dry, the rice was cold and over seasoned tasting nasty. Ordered via Uber Eats late at night - regret it. They gave me a bunch of random sauces, I added a note asking for extra white sauce... and also for the cheeseburger order - in the note, I said skip the fries and give me 2 sodas. They gave me the fries and 1 soda. They don't have an option to order soda at all on there. So now I don't have my 2 sodas. And also the food... fries sucked of course, burger was meh, and the mixed rice was decent (fort hamilton got them beat tho). edit - also, in addition to the random sauces - there were no ketchup packets or anything of the sort for the fries that I feel were forced upon me. I understand that I got ketchup at home - but I expected at least like 2 packets or something lol. Maybe expectations were just too high, Uber just makes it real pricey. read more

I discovered this place a few years ago while working the late night shift at my job and then looking for a place that would still be open after midnight to buy dinner from. This place has since become part of my regular rotation of restaurants I order out from when I don't feel like cooking. The platters are a notch above the regular street meat you'll find at carts around the city and for $6-$7 you'll get enough food to last you for at least 2 meals depending on how much you want to stuff yourself. My personal favorite is the chicken tikka--well seasoned all white meat chicken kabobs grilled fresh. All the guys that work there are super friendly and willing to accommodate special requests. I had come to Gyro Express, mostly out of desperation. I got home late from work, and nothing else was open, so I decided reluctantly to try Gyro Express. I was pleasantly surprised. I have been eating gyros for a number of years now, from different places across New York. I was actually shocked that the best gyro I have ever had, came from this tiny, hole in the wall establishment. I came in super late in the pouring rain and ordered my meal. As I came running in, it looked like the person working was about to close up shop. However, he provided me with a huge smile, warm customer service, and an excellent meal. Usually, when one comes to a restaurant at the end of the night, you get bottom of the barrel food. I watched this man cook FRESH tender gyro meat just for me! He even gave me several samples as he cooked it to make sure I would like it. I only ordered the lamb rice gyro with French fries, but it was PHENOMENAL. The meat was so tender and delicious, true melt in your mouth goodness. Excellent flavor in the lamb, and delicious cooked to perfection rice. Normally, I am not blown away by gyros, they are something I kind of settle on eating. The gyros from this restaurant, I can eat again and again. I am also impressed by the customer service. I have never walked into a restaurant so late, and been treated so kindly and wonderfully. Understandably, most people are not too fond of the customer who walks in at closing time. Service and food here are awesome, have no hesitations about coming in! Truly the only gyro place that I can rave about. This is one of the best halal places at Brighton. Usually people charge 5+ if they let you choose what to put in your meal (SALAD IS FRESH AND GOOD TOO) but they have pita gyro for only$4!!!!! Staying in Brighton Beach for the night, decided lamb sounded really good. I went in to get the lamb on a pita and decided to go for the lamb with rice and salad. The lamb is juicy, tender, and deliciously flavored. Rice is yellow long grain can't go wrong there. My salad is awesome, just what I needed to feel somewhat healthy. That was until this superb white sauce went all over my whole platter and crushed my healthy eating decision, but was thoroughly enjoyed by my taste buds! If I wasn't passing through, I'd totally eat here again. Halal cart in storefront form. Just hope it's clean in back. Plenty of food, very cheap but rather indistinct tasting (especially the falafel; Mamoun's it's not). Needs lots of green and red sauces. I like the whole cumin seeds in the rice, though. Not exactly friendly. But good in a pinch. read more
