My friends and I had lunch at Gargiulo's today 9/2/2026 . The ombience inside the restaurant was pleasing to the eye. We shared an order of fried calamari and baked clams that were very tasty. Two of us ordered veal parmigiana top with thinly sliced breaded eggplant and fresh mozzarella which was delicious. The portion was more than enough for one person. My other friend ordered risotto pescatore which consisted of clams , mussels,calamari, scallops and shrimp which was served in a sou bowl, He totally enjoyed his meal. The waiter, David , was friendly, tentative, gave us suggestions on wine and spirits . The service was a great. We will definitely return to Gagriuo's in the future. I will recommend this restaurant to my family members and friends. We rate our experience 5 + star restaurant. read more

First time here and don't know why it took us so long to finally get here. Our dinner was amazing! Zucchini flowers huge and delicious. Baked clams perfect. Mozzarella and tomatoe. Pork chop with cherry peppers and vegetable side scrumptious! Husband had veal Sorrentina and he loved it! Side of penne with delicious sauce. We took home things because we could not finish. Dessert was cannoli and Italian cheesecake. Service great, staff awesome. Owners very friendly, caring and accommodating. Love the decor, hope they never change it. We were working with Rachel on a venue for April 2027. We gave a nominal deposit from both families for a wedding. The wedding is not going through and reached out to her and Anthony with over 8 months for them to be able to schedule another affair . Rachel was very unacommodating with trying to work with us for a refund or restaurant credit. Meanwhile we were told by the other family that they are getting credit refund . We went for my birthday lunch. There were 8 of us. We each ordered an appetizer. I had the baked clams. We had fried zucchini and fried mozzarella and Caesar salads. The main courses were mostly filet of sole racanati! It was very fresh and a lighter food choice. Each came with potato croquettes and mixed vegetables. Service by our waiter Igli. How the mighty have fallen. Went there this evening for a Mother's Day dinner. It couldn't have been worse. We had a reservation and was still made to wait twenty minutes to be seated despite available tables. We didn't see the first waiter for at least another twenty minutes. A price fixed, somewhat limited menu. Most of us had the pasta and chicken cutlet parmigiana. Came with a 'salad' and potato croquette. We had our pasta after a wait and then...nothing. We got to talking and remembered we were to receive a salad. We hoped it wouldn't come with our entree. It didn't. What we did get was some soft lettuce with olive oil drizzled on it. Pitiful. Our chicken cutlet was a patty and tasted like chicken fingers with a little mozzarella and tomato sauce to hide this fact. Not one of us was able to finish our meal. Not one! I wanted to take the included dessert to go but was voted against. We shouldn't have taken it at all. We ended up being one of the last tables to leave and were being stared down by the bus boys and other waiters. Not our waiter though. We never saw him. The ONLY reason we were among the last to go was because we were always left waiting. The valet was kept waiting as well. Our cars were the last in the lot. I had to retrieve my coat from the coat room as there wasn't an attendant. My son complained to the owner who introduced himself as Anthony. He stated he farms out the work for busy nights like Mother!s Day and that he didn't know what to do. Didn't know what to do? You're the owner, pride yourself for being in business for your be hundred years and you don't know what to do? I know what to do. We won't be back, we won't recommend the place ever again, I'll tell people about my experience, and write this negative review. Sorry for giving it one star. Zero stars wasn't an option. read more

I really enjoyed my meal at this restaurant and hope to return for my next trip to NY as I live in Las Vegas. Our waiters name was Emilio. He was very attentive and kind and took several pictures for us then I didn't catch his name one of the owners spoke to us and was also very nice and I told him we were celebrating my daughter's graduation and that I don't live here and where I live and he gave us a limoncello to celebrate which was really nice and the food was excellent. A few minutes later another one of the I believe he was an Owner also walked by and greeted us as well. I posted some photos below and I will definitely return on my next trip to New York and highly recommend this restaurant. The red sauce is really good. The eggplant rolletini was delicious and I enjoyed my pasta Fagioli soup and next time I want to try the Escarole and beans one. Have been going to the restaurant since the early 1990's. Have always gotten the same meal. Baked clams, 1/2 order of linguini with lobster sauce, shrimp stuffed with crab meat and chocolate mousse pie for dessert. Last few times they were not able to accomodate the linguini with lobster sauce because it is now a special item on certain days. Went last Saturday for our anniversary and a few more things have changed since the last time. The long time waiters Jerry and Giancarlo are no longer there. We had an Indian waiter with a heavy accent that was hard to understand. No specials were offered and the vibe was different. I think I expect an Italian waiter at an Italian restaurant the same as I expect a Chinese waiter at a Chinese restaurant. I was told the linguini with lobster was not available but I could order a lobster and have sauce on top. I settled on the veal chop and it had no garnish or sauce on it. And the third issue was they no longer had chocolate mousse pie but they had a chocolate mousse cake. Totally different from my go to. We decided to share Italian cheese cake and it was dissapointing. Was not traditional Italian ricotta cheesecake. Was made of cream cheese and was on the dry side. Over all the food was ok, the dessert wasn't, the service was attentive but the vibe was off. End result is after 30 years of eating here a few times a year I think this will be our last time. read more

Came here to celebrate my birthday a couple of weeks ago. Service was a little odd. The waiter kind of stood over us while we looked at the menus. I asked to see the cocktail list and he asked if I wanted him to recite it for me which I guess is nice? Idk I need to read things. The food was ok. Food was disgusting!!!! Came here for an award ceremony dinner for my son's football league. The salad on the table was subpar, it looked like the olives and string beans were served out of a can. The chicken parm had absolutely no seasoning on it, it tasted like they transferred the chicken breast straight out of the freezer, to the plain unseasoned breadcrumbs and into the oven. A perfect meeting place when you are coming from Central Jersey and your friends are in Long Island and Brooklyn. Not much has changed here over the years, except no octopus hanging from the ceiling, and I say that in a positive way. Excellent service and the food is still all of the old school favorites. I grew up in coney and used to eat there a lot before it was renovated Patient nice waiter (he had to deal with 6 indecisive women). Rigatoni bolognese was delicious. Great sauce Caesar salad was good I had shrimp parm. Not the biggest portion but it was sufficient. Baked clams were small but good (a bit too salty) A beautiful side (for the table) of veggies and potato croquettes. Stop to look at the black and white pics on your way to the restrooms. I made an early reservation before a baseball game trying to support a restaurant we have long gone to as a family. Upon walking in, we were ignored and then a waiter looked at my teenage kids in disgust because he said they were wearing gym shorts. I get it, these are your rules, but the way I was spoken to and waved off by a waiter was absolutely disgusting. There is a way to handle things like a gentleman. This will be the last time anyone from my family sets foot in this dying establishment. Went to Gargiulo's for the first time ever last night before heading down to the boardwalk for the fireworks. A sharp-dressed fellow was manning the door and opened it with a flourish. My friend was already at the bar and had asked George (the bartender) to make me a slightly dirty martini with "fancy gin." He made me the most glorious martini with Empress (it's purple!). A woman at the next table ordered one after she saw mine! And it was only $12! The same martini in the City would easily be $18-$20. We were a party of 3 and shared a Caesar, plus each got a separate pasta half-order. Plenty of food! I got the spaghettini with garlic and oil. Huge slabs of yummy garlic and the perfect portion. Friends got the rigatoni with meat sauce and the linguini with clams. Classics, all of them. The interior is elegant and it felt like we had time-traveled with the tuxedoed waiters and the terrazzo floor. And everyone who works here is so kind and witty. read more

Lower your standards, not your dress code here. Overpriced menu items for a mediocre food experience, all the while the staff is all wearing tuxedos. The confusing menu items also have no explanation of what you are about to be served. Even though the portions are generous, the taste and value of the food weakens after the first few bites. They do have a gimmick where if they pick your number out of a container then your meal is free. I was here with my mother and we did not get the free meal. We were looking for a small function room for a birthday party in Brooklyn, and came upon Gargiulo's, a throwback to a different era, decorated in dark woods and staffed by tuxedo clad waiters. According to their website, Gargiulo's Restaurant was established in 1907 by the Gargiulo family, and was an entertainment venue throughout the heyday of Coney Island. In April 1965, the Russo brothers acquired the restaurant, kept the name and implemented their Neopolitan hospitality and cuisine. We chose the Board Room, a small event room which holds up to 25 people. We thought the room looked great, the service was excellent, and most of the food quite good. A gourmet restaurant? Not so much. An iconic spot for a good meal, certainly. We sampled: Prosciutto, Mozzarella & Roasted Peppers $14.50 Shrimp Cocktail $14.00 Fried Zucchini $10.00 Tre Colore Salad (Arugula, Endive & Radicchio) $10.50 Caesar Salad $11.00 And many entrees. Most of what we sampled was quite good, the Zucchini was tasty but a little soggy. And the Shrimp Cocktail was good, though the shrimp were a little on the shrimpy size! Old school is the game here. I was waiting on line to go to a Cyclones game with my cousin and we both said how we never at here despite it being legendary, so about half way through the game (Seinfeld night) we gave in to hunger (Cyclones park has pretty bad food) and headed over to Gariulos. It was a saturday night around 8 and we had no reservsations but were seated after a very short wait. Being an adult I wear long pants when going to eat in a nice restaurant so there was no issues with dress code which personally i think more restaurants should have. Put a damn pair of pants on people. The service was great and we were quickly given a basket of bread and bread sticks and our water glasses were frequently filled. the decor is really nice. The place is huge. For starters we split an order of baked clams and a seafood salad. The clams were quite good, lots of flavor in the bread crumbs and the clams were plump and tasty without all that excess oil that some places put it in. The seafood salad was bright and lemony and perfect for a muggy August night. For my main I had Chicken Scarpariello. Now my only qualm with the whole dinner was this dish is Chicken (usually on the bone but i went boneless) with sausage,potatoes and hot peppers in a vinegar based sauce. So the waiter asked if i wanted the sausage,potatoes and peppers i was a bit confused and just figured that maybe most of the diners were not Italian and didnt know this. Well when the bill came i saw i was upcharged for all of those things bringing my 24 dollar dish up to about 35. My cousin who had Braciola was asked if he wanted the pasta and also got upcharged. I likely wouldve added all the things anyway but to upcharge for ingredients already supposed to be in the dish in the dish I felt was a bit uncool. The dish however was delicious, spicy and vinegary and garlicky. Another cool touch is the waiter comes at the end and tells you to pick a number between 1-99 and shakes a big shaker full of numbered tiles and picks one out. If you guess right the meal is free (I did not lol) but I liked that. Overall the food was good and thats the main thing even if I wasnt crazy about the upcharges. That was only thing keeping them from the 5th star. read more
