Upon entering, you walk through the bar to the dining area in the back. The place was flooded with Bay Ridge locals, you can tell right away this is a real neighborhood spot. The decor is over the top in the best way. Trains running around the ceiling, lights, signs, decorations hanging everywhere. Classic old school tavern feels all the way. The menu is full of classic bar food with great prices. They do use English muffin buns for the burgers which actually works, easy to get to the beef patty. I liked the char on the burger, gave it that smoky grilled bite that hits, but I asked for medium rare and got medium well, so the temperature was overdone, made it a bit dry and less flavorful than I wanted. The cheese slice was thin too, could've used more punch, but flavors still hit. Service was nice and attentive, but kitchen can be slow, so don't come in waiting super hangry. read more

I ordered chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, house salad, and a Swiss burger with sauté onions and bacon. While I waited for the order, I had a finely crafted 1800 margarita on the rocks with salt. The bar tender was super attentive. The drink was amazing. I went home and had the burger and mozzarella sticks. Both were amazing. Came in on a lightly rainy day. My friends and I grabbed a table near the bar and ordered beers and some appetizers. The chili over fries was so good! But what's won be over is the effort in decor. Christmas is all over the walls and ceiling of this place. There's a train that runs above around the bar! And the dining room is even more decked out! I can't wait to go back for a sit down meal. I love this place for the holiday decorations and how festive they are but especially all the train shows going around the restaurant. Every thing here is delicious, the prices are unbeatable. Their daily specials are epic. I ordered the strip steak here twice because you just can't beat it at $27! The Mac n cheese and chili wings are also delicious. The expresso martini is yummy. The menu is pretty old fashion and I wouldn't be surprised if this place has been around for decades. The staff is great and they'll let you take pics in front of the decorations. Local neighborhood hang it seems. Went to see the famous holiday house and stopped by skintight with some teenagers. The teenagers felt overwhelmed because it is a pub..but once we were seated in the back it was very family oriented. Skinflints has a fun and festive scheme of decor, complete with blinky lights and Christmas trains, to match the famously decked out homes nearby in Dyker Heights. As such, the establishment has a neighborhood bar atmosphere but also attracts tourists from at least as far as Alabama, from a conversation I overheard between a drawling table and their server. Service was rather quick and methodical, and my hot drink and steak au poivre were well received. My boyfriend liked his ribeye also, so it was a pleasant night out for us, at his recommendation, I might add (he had been enchanted by the bar during a per-chance visit while observing the lights with friends from out of town a week prior). read more

It is more like a 3.5 than a four star review. Unfortunately due to the fact I cannot give half stars, this is what I have to work with. The burger is of a good size, but it is a little dry and needs more than just lettuce and tomato to bring out the flavor. The cheese draping is nice, and the fries are fresh and taste good, but they do not quite make up for the lack of seasoning this burger needs. I do like the English muffin as a bun. That works incredibly well. I would also recommend adding a fried egg as a topping. That with the English muffin and any burger would make this a burger I would get almost every weekend. The prices are fair too, considering if I were in Manhattan that this is easily a $20 burger. For lunch, it is passable. read more

Skinflints is incredibly beautiful. The location goes above and beyond with its decor. We went right after Christmas and it just seemed like there was a Santa in every window. We were seated quickly in the back dining area for lunch and ordered drinks and the French Onion Soup, Potato Skins and the Chicken Pot Pie. Drinks arrived quickly and the chicken pot pie was defiantly made from scratch straight out of the oven with some lovely puff pastry. I was a bit surprised about the French onion soup. It defiantly seemed to be made with chicken broth rather than beef and wasn't as flavorful as some French onion soups I've had elsewhere. The potato skins had veleta rather than cheddar and were fine. I was surprised by the service. Our server was able to pick up and drop our food rather quickly but then vanished for a really long time. We were able to finish all of our food and we watched as several people were sat with no attention for over 15 minutes and a few people were waiting to just get change before leaving. Closing out the bill was incredibly slow. Its was a nice atmosphere and I'll probably come back and just sit at the bar. I'm sure someone called out. The space is intimate with dim incandescent lighting and stain glass windows, but also eclectic with a miniature train running around a chandelier. The burgers come on English muffins. A while back Good Morning New York voted Skinflints "Best Burger" in Brooklyn. being a native of Dyker Heights, I knew that this establishment makes a great burger. However, I wondered if it matched up to places like the Redhook Tavern. I must say, after trying the burger a few times it not only matches up. It exceeds. The beef blend is perfect, the execution spot on, the English is the signature. Fries were also terrific and stood up to this masterpiece I should also say the beer list was excellent, and my Brooklyn Lager (on tap) was fresh and super cold . It's been a while since I've stopped in here, but had one of the best, and most fulfilling brunch meals I've had in a long time. Huevo Rancheros. From top to bottom it was almost perfect, from the fresh sliced avocado to the eggs, beans, and perfectly crispy tortilla on the bottom. Such a lively atmosphere with a great pour. Lots of beer on draft and cocktails to be made. Food is really good and not a bad price. My favorites are the mussels, French dip sandwich, and pasta. During Christmas time the hostess should not lie. Our party was told there would be about an hour wait which was expected. After an hour we were told they were waiting for another large group (10) to get there to be seated even though our group were all there. She said she had "no idea" when they would arrive. She then rudely added she couldn't guarantee us a table. Since they don't take reservations a wait is expected and fine. Had a blast coming here after seeing the Dyker Heights Lights last month! I was hoping to eat here before the lights, but it was PACKED. When we eventually got back, we were told we should've stayed but that wasn't clear when they took our number, either way they were nice about it and sat us. Exactly what I expected it to be, a little messy but 5 stars here - Mushroom Burger: very meaty and very tall which is great for some but not for me. The burger was on the dry side and wasn't all that memorable, I took a couple bites and took my leftovers home. Came with a side of fries. I had read the burgers here were great but I wish I stuck with my gut and ordered fish & chips! 2 stars. - Bean Burger: they were out of impossible patties for the night so M went with a bean burger! He finished it, it wasn't as tall and dry looking as mine. Unknown stars! Looking around, the burgers and other appetizers were definitely popular. The main long hallway gets pretty rowdy, I'm glad we were seated in a quieter side room. I loved that the place was decked out in Christmas lights, there was even a moving train!
