The staff were very friendly and it want super busy since I was there right as they opened. I had the French toast with scrambled eggs, home fries and sausage. I thought the food was alright, the sausage was ok a bit chewy or like a plastic chew to it. Scrambled eggs were light and fluffy, and the home fries needed a bit more seasoning on top of it but the French toast felt like it was more bread, the bread wasn't really moist and after getting biting through the top layer it was just bread even though you're given syrup to dip it in. read more

Stumbled upon this spot when looking for a brunch place before heading over to a one day market nearby. We didn't quite know what to expect but we were all pleasantly surprised! Someone in our group said the French toast was the best she's ever had (high praise!). My partner loved the steak sandwich and she's got a high bar for food. The French fries? To die for! The herbs were delicious. I got the chilaquiles. While they weren't the best I've ever had, they were definitely satisfying! Personally, the mimosas were the highlight. Great ratio of champagne to OJ! The ambiance is casual and a little cramped but not bad! Pretty reasonable pricing. Service was helpful and quick. A great spot to check out if you're in the area. A true gem in Sunset Park! As a local, I'm not even joking when I say Zona Sur absolutely blew me away. The food? Literal 10/10. My friend ordered the steak Sammy and I had the chicken sandwich -- both were incredibly flavorful, perfectly cooked, and beautifully plated. It hit that perfect sweet spot between authentic and modern Latin flavors. The vibe of the space is so relaxing, and the staff were friendly, attentive, and super professional. We came here on a whim after our intended place closed at 3:30pm. No problem this place was a few blocks up. We walked in and were greeted. It's a cute petite spot with a few seats at the bar and the rest dine seating to grab a bite. The young man who greeted us was nice & personable. What a fun place! I was able to get reservations online and I'm glad I did because there wasn't an empty table at 2:30 on a Saturday. The food was delicious and the service was great. My friend and I were catching up with a former student so we stayed a while and no one complained. Food wise, it's very affordable and delicious! I got the chilaquiles and although I learned I don't like chilaquiles (only because of the sogginess) I cannot get over how fluffy and delicious the scrambled eggs were, their beans were amazing, and their homemade salsa verde was to die for. Solid & homey place to have a good meal. Came with my family for a midweek lunch and it wasn't packed. For apps we ordered the margherita pizza, crispy potatoes, broccolini, and buffalo wings. All were $7 because of happy hour & solid options. Potatoes were yummy - just wish they came out hot. For main course we got steak frites, linguine Pescatore, zona burger, and the pan seared salmon. My parents very rarely eat at "American" restaurants & they really enjoyed their dishes. I really appreciate how they have Pat Lefrieda steak which is always a plus! For cocktails we had the mojito & the beautiful life (recommended to us - definitely would get again). Service was great - but there was a side door that kept opening and blowing cold air in our direction & our drinking glasses weren't cleaned thoroughly so we had to get them replaced. I have already recommended this family run restaurant several times in the last few days. The server was very knowledgeable and even suggested the 1/2 size portion which was truly 1/2 the price and plenty of food. I had the steak frities and my husband had chicken pounded thin with avocado salad on top. For dessert we split the most incredible apple bread pudding. It was so wonderful we went back for dessert the second night and each had our own. To be honest we ate somewhere else for dinner and there was no comparison. Please visit for a wonderful experience. I came back here again except this time for lunch on a Wednesday with a group of 3 people. We ordered the Margherita pizza, the linguine pescatore (shrimp/mussels/clams), and the croque monsieur (ham/cheese) with French fries. I liked the linguine pescatore the most since there was a lot of seafood and the linguine was perfectly cooked. The croque monsieur had a great bechamel sauce. The fries were crispy and thin. Since we came on a weekday during the early afternoon, we were the only table so the service was really good unlike last time. My steak and eggs came out great, and exactly as I wanted! The fries were delicious and I loved the garlic. The lemon ricotta crepes were good but nothing to write home about. We sat in the patio, there were a ton of gigantic bees buzzing around and I feel like they could of done a better job screening the back patio for the guests. Several guests had to retreat indoors because of the bees. Firstly the waitstaff, Corey and Yohanna are absolute Gems. They are so friendly and personable and have a wealth of knowledge when it comes to craft cocktails and food. But more importantly, they made the single greates Espresso Martini I have ever had in my life! This Martini could have stolen my identity and I wouldn't even mind. Haven't been here for years. I guess it's gotten to the point where staff stare at phones and laptops in between bringing your meal and clearing it away. So in addition to zero customer service (I was eating alone so notice this!) the omelet was expensive and underseasoned. Best thing was music which I happen to love. My friend suggested this place for a late lunch. The two of us walked in around 3 pm after finishing some work nearby. The restaurant was pretty much deserted aside from a couple that was finishing up their brunch. We picked a table and sat down servers were slow to bring menus, and water and to take our drink menu. Once the server was back we placed our entire order. For appetizers, we had the Gambas Al Ajillo, which were not bad but a tad bland and overcooked. We also had the Guacamole and Chips, the chips were quite crunchy but salty and the Guacamole barely had anything in it..just avocado and some onions here and there. For mains the Steak Frites we're quite good. Cooked to the right temperature and the fries were good, well seasoned and crunchy. My friend had the Rigatoni and Sausage. Both mains were good but my friend liked my steak better than her pasta. The drinks were good and strong. In general one of the nicer places in the area for a nice American meal and drinks. It's got a patio area as well. I will visit again but probably at a more normal time for the service. read more

I recently helped host a bridal shower here and it went really well. We had a private back patio space (no extra cost) and we were able to decorate it how we wanted. There were 16 guests in attendance but you can definitely fit 10 more people if you needed to. My only two semi-complaints are that it rained the night before, so the floors were all wet (but they were able to mop it up), and there was scaffolding/construction going on, after we had already put down the deposit. Luckily, it wasn't too bad - it actually offered us a bit of shade so I don't think anyone was mad at that. We did the prix fixe menu for $35, which includes one alcoholic (or non-alcoholic), shared apps (guacamole, Nutella crepes, and lemon ricotta crepes), choice of entree (choose from about ten items), and dessert, which is tiramisu. The lemon ricotta crepes were nice and light. They made sure we were well fed with those apps because they just kept bringing them out. We were pretty much full after that but we still had the entree to go. I went with the chicken torta (grilled chicken, avocado, bacon, lettuce, tomato, chipotle aioli). You really can't go wrong with that. It's a classic. Plus, it comes with fries. I was only able to finish about half. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, but it's a nice option if you are on a budget and need to host some kind of event. read more

Food was 4/5 but service was 5/5! We were welcomed so kindly by the waitresses. I didn't get her name but seeing her smile and feeling her energy really makes your Sunday morning! Hubby and I both got the Zona Sur breakfast. His with pancakes and mine with French toast. We replaced our home fries with French fries. Best decision ever. They were thin fries that were crispy on the outside with a soft potato inside. The pancakes were just okay, really nice texture but was lacking flavor. The French toast was amazing, great cinnamon flavor with a crisp outside and soft pillowy inside. The portions are for one person, do not share! In a desperate attempt to finally see how much my friends and I have aged over the pandemic, we decided to grab brunch at this cozy restaurant. The space is relatively small to begin with and with social distancing policy, we made reservations ahead of time. We decided to sit indoors, but we saw that they also have outdoor seating available. Nothing to complain about the service here. Our waitress was patient and answered our questions about the menu well. She also provided us with a small bottle of hand sanitizer for our table to use during our stay. I decided to order the Eggs Benedict (16). I was a little disappointed that they did not have smoked salmon for a Norwegian Eggs Benedict but the prosciutto sufficed. My friends ordered the Steak and Eggs (17) and they thoroughly enjoyed their meals as well. We decided to share a pitcher of delicious White Sangria (36) that filled about 6 glasses. SO DISAPPOINTED. Came here Saturday for Brunch. Our group had to find a last minute place where we could hold a small intimate baby shower. This place was selected and we were grateful that they could accommodate a party of 8 and allow for decorations. To start off, we had the guacamole and chips. Nothing special. Just straight up avocado with lemon juice, and possibly some onions. I'd pass on this. Once we got our main food, we were so disappointed. I forgot to take a picture. Zona had just opened up and we arrived shortly at 11:30am. No smoked salmon eggs Benedict. Alright, so I opted for the Eggs Benedict with Prosciutto. The plate looked sad. A few pieces of home potatoes/fries with a sad slice of prosciutto. The English muffin was flat to a point where it looked like a flat bread. With a small handful of arugula (no dressing or whatever, just put onto the plate). I loss my appetite already and ate half of what I had. Moving onto the hanger steak. Where do I even begin. I should have complained but didn't because of my friend's baby shower and didn't want to ruin the mood. Steak was not flavored at all, it was dry. The fries were basically ones found on the bottom of the bag. Literally rock bottom. Fried to a point where there was no turning back. Teeny bits of fries. At least I took a picture of this main. You'd do well to take some hospitality, customer service and anger management, as I have never dealt with anyone so rude and unprofessional in my life. (Maria, just for the record happens to be part owner of this establishment. In contrast to her husband who is the mild mannered chef, Maria's attitude will be the restaurant's undoing)! I've been coming to this place since it first opened. Happy to have a restaurant in Sunset Park that served American Fare. I have been ordering the Steak Fritz since it was first priced at $18.00. I understand Covid happened, but now the cost is $30 Whoa! I used to sit in the garden, until it was shut down because they didn't have the right permit. It has since reopened. Despite the unsightly construction site that's shadows the restaurant I still returned. When they raised their prices I still returned. I eat brunch there most Sunday's because I love eggs benedict, so when I'm too tired after a sixty hour work week to travel elsewhere they're right down the block (even though I prefer it with Canadian Ham, and they make theirs with prosciutto). I want to support local restaurants in our neighborhood. The food is not five star but it's decent, though inconsistent. One day I will order a hibiscus tea, and there is real hibiscus floating on top, the next day there's none. One day the Bloody Mary mix is off the chain, the next week it's not. You suck it up. You learn what works and what doesn't (it's local and convenient eh)? Well lately, not so much... the chairs and benches could use some revamping as they have become uncomfortable because they tend to slope. If one person at another table shifts or moves so do you. Time for a re-vamp!!!! The last straw for me was that after a 60 hour work week, too tired to cook I decided to place an order. I'll pay your ridiculously higher price for a Hanger Steak, not even a Skirt Steak., but your fries were overcooked (see photo), so I called in to ask for a credit. I was given this long winded explanation about how they will try to attach a credit, but there's no guarantee that the credit will show up on the system (although they will try to leave a note). You could have simply deducted the amount of the fries from my card. My dinner was ruined. Am I supposed to eat plain steak for dinner without a side? I refused their offer to deliver a new batch of fries because I had already waited 40 minutes for the first delivery, and I had to be up at 2 AM for work. I figured I'll just eat the buffalo wings I ordered instead. Well I ordered extra crispy, and as you can see from my photo they were not. The menu reads they make their own blue cheese dressing. I don't know what this dressing was but it was heavily based with mayo, and I don't eat mayo. Long story short, I spent $54.00 and had a terrible, inedible experience. Now, for the best part... The next day after work I go into the restaurant to speak with the manager who has always been lovely. He recognizes me immediately. I explain to him the experience I had. I ask him how can we resolve this amicably. He apologizes profusely, and offers me a drink. I tell him I don't want a drink, but would appreciate a credit for the fries, and the cost of half the wings (which I thought was fair considering I was still eating half the cost for wings I didn't eat). He apologizes profusely, but tells me it's beyond his purview, he needs authorization from his boss, MARIA. He gets her on the line, and hands me the phone. I speak to her calmly explaining the situation (which she should be aware of as she is the one who originally took my order over the phone the day prior). Talk about someone who doesn't know how to handle a complaint... She immediately starts yelling at me over the phone. Basically accusing me of being someone who is trying to give her staff a hard time and get free food. I explain to her that I am simply trying to resolve this situation, and that I too work in the service industry. She proceeds to yell that she doesn't care who I am or what I do, and to never come back to her restaurant again! I could barely get a word in edge wise. I wish I had put the call on speaker so that all of her customers could see how she treats her guests, the type of person she is and the type of customer service she gives. Don't worry Maria, you don't have to worry about me ever stepping foot in your restaurant again, and you can bet your bottom dollar after reading this a lot of people won't either. When I told her I could have simply put a stop on the payment through my credit card company or given her a bad review she became even more enraged and proceeded to tell me she didn't care what I did but to never come back to her restaurant so there it is! I shudder to think how she must treat her employees. Maria's bio reads that for years and years she's "worked in all kinds of restaurants, 4-stars, 2-stars, no Stars" Now we know why! read more

Travelled down to good ol fashioned sunset park (no idea why I said that) to have brunch with the homies and after researching on Yelp, we decided on this spot. I took entirely too long choosing my meal but finally picked the chicken torta. Don't ask me if I want fries or a salad... it's ALWAYS fries. The torta was solid... avocado, bacon, spicy mayo... all the necessities for deliciousness. I'm a slow eater and everyone was done before me so they started to pick at my fries which I did not enjoy. Walking in it feels as though this place is a hole in the wall masquerading as a fancy eatery; complete with overpriced entrees. Furthermore, you never quite know the quality you're getting when ordering here. One can order the zona burger one night have it cooked to perfection, come back next week for the same and get an underseasoned, overcooked burger and soggy fries with chunks of raw garlic carelessly tossed in. Then you return months later to get some chicken that's pretty good; return a month later and order a hanger steak medium rare that comes out to your table blue rare with no utensils while the waitress is chatting it up with a friend at the bar. A few of my friends and I wanted to take advantage of the beautiful weather while we still could, and decided to drop by for a very very late brunch. The server was an absolute gem, super sweet and friendly. I can't personally attest to the flavors of my friends' orders, but I very much enjoyed what I had. La Bicicleta Cocktail: gin, muddled green grapes, basil, peach puree, hint of celery bitters, citrus - not to toot my own horn, but I'm know for picking the best drink on a menu, and this did not disappoint. When I ordered this, my friends said they weren't interested as they were not gin fans. After trying mine, my friends kept ordering more of these for themselves (our only complaint is that this did not come in a pitcher. This was definitely my cocktail of the year. The basil and celery bitters cut through the sweetness of the peach puree and was the perfect way to celebrate the end of summer days and ring in autumn (though we would honestly drink this any day of the year happily). This was fruity, refreshing, and my friends now realize why I enjoy gin cocktails (hehe, I've converted more devotees to the gin side) Herbed Fries: thin, crisp, and perfectly seasoned Zona Sur Grande: two pancakes, 2 eggs any style, sausage and home fries - I asked for over easy eggs, which were prepared perfectly. What distinguished this from a standard diner breakfast was the powdered sugar and fresh berries that topped my pancakes, you usually don't get this extra touch when you order breakfast platters. Cute little cafe in the Sunset Park area of Brooklyn. It's hard to notice amongst the chaos of shops, bodegas and other small eateries from the storefront but definitely worth checking out. It's small but didn't seem too crowded during Sunday brunch-it had about 10 or less tables but our party of 6 was seated right away. Our server was super friendly and accommodating and the brunch choices suited both vegetarians and meat eaters in our group. I had the egg torta minus the bacon and everything from the way the eggs were cooked to the bread down to the fresh avocado and chipotle sauce were spot on and nice & fresh. I was a little wary after reading all these posts about burnt food items, and maybe cafe zona sur is actively on yelp reading these reviews and whole heartedly trying to improve... so I was pretty surprised that my pancakes came out undercooked HAHAHA. The waiter courteously took my pancakes back and brought me back a new set, which was 100% cooked, or shall I say 110% cooked because it was a bit dry. My boyfriend ordered the zona sur combo (only diff from no. 1 is the french toast) and it was YUMM. It's very rare that I have french toasts that are crisp on the outside, yet soft on the inside. The combos here are NOT MEANT FOR SHARING. So order your own, and bring it close to your body so no wandering forks can poke around your food and make its way in to another human's mouth. This place is the ultimate cut! I've been here for brunch and finally got to enjoy items off of their dinner menu. Since I'd been craving burgers, my choice was easy. I went for the classic cheese burger. Mouth watering! Savory! Cheesy! Greasy bun! The beef was perfectly flavored and the fries were oh-so delightful.
