I've stuck with this restaurant, though I only go occasionally. Our neighborhood SO badly needs a few restaurants that are consistent. The entire "scene" on Fort Hamilton is sad. Half of the restaurants are only open sporadically. As for Hamilton's, the owners should stick to food that they can consistently serve well. Last time I ordered steak it was like shoe leather. Last salad I had with optional grilled chicken, the chicken was like jerky and cold. The salad underneath was a weird mash of cheese, beans and unidentifiable veggies. Soaked in dressing. I wish I could say their burgers were good, but half the time they are overcooked. I guess maybe they just want to be a bar. The beer selection is always good. Their desserts are also decent. It's just so disappointing to spend $30-$40 and still feel hungry, and wish you'd just cooked at home. Restaurants don't need to do rocket science, just be good and fairly priced. They should look at a place like Skinflints in Bay Ridge. Terrific food at affordable price point. read more

Hamilton's is a great spot for brunch in Windsor Terrace section of Brooklyn. The location is on Fort Hamilton Parkway at its intersection with E 4th. The only negative is parking. Street parking is difficult to find for this popular spot. We had to park blocks away in the midst of winter at a time when my medical specialists had not yet found a specific reason for my breathing problems. It was a difficult walk for me on portable oxygen, which I've since learned doesn't work. The plan was that after brunch we would walk to a nearby park in the opposite direction of where my son's vehicle was parked. The park would be a treat for my Grandson in return for having to endure brunch out. :) That plan was nixed because of the falling temperature & my health issues. The long walk to Hamilton's was worth it. I knew the moment we stepped in that this would be an awesome spot. The L shaped restaurant features a popular bar area facing Fort Hamilton. Table seating is available in that section, a patio & an outdoor seating area. The patio & outdoor areas, facing the cross street, were both heated & enclosed in a temporary clear protective material that allowed the same outdoor views as one would have seen in warmer weather. Dogs are allowed in the outdoor seating, which is always a huge plus. The timing of our visit was still too close to the Covid catastrophe in NYC for me to feel safe in a crowded area. Our hostess completely understood and seated us at the back table in the patio area. I felt safe. The heaters made the table comfortable. So I was completely happy. The menu was awesome. There was something for everyone from burgers & sandwiches to vegan. Our Server was very attentive. I chose the Salmon & Codcake w/chipotle aiol and arugula salad. It was delicious, definitely 5 stars. My then Vegan, now Vegetarian son chose the Organic Kale Salad with Pumpkin seeds, dried cranberries, and maple vinaigrette. It too deserves 5 stars. My grandson chose from the Kid's Menu, which runs the gamut of choices including perennial kids favorites such as Macaroni & Cheese, Grilled Cheese & Hamburger. As usual the Fries were his favorite. The Brunch Menu, available until 4, was what we chose from. It includes a Breakfast section, which is great for the late risers or those who enjoy lingering hours over coffee (like me). There is a Lunch (Bar) Menu served 4 - 5 that features Small Plates & Sandwiches. Dinner begins at 5, featuring not just entrees but also sandwiches & burgers. Eggs Benedict with smoked ham was delicious-poached eggs was cooked perfectly. Cobb salad with chicken large generous portion ...freshly chopped carrots avocado bacon romaine radish with sprinkle of corn kernels. Recommend paying an extra $3 to substitute thin English muffin with their signature thick flakey biscuits with chive butter to soak up the egg yolk. A perfect neighborhood place for a casual sister brunch, a family outing or a lovely romantic date. Sit back and relax and let Hamilton's do the rest. Hamiltons specializes in familiar, American dishes cooked to perfection. I first tried their delicious cod cakes with a poached egg and potatoes. Crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. Perfect. Their jumumga buttermilk biscuits can be devoured as is, topped with sweet honey butter or served up right as a kitchen strawberry shortcake. I'm a huge fan of their steak and eggs. I spoiled myself one Saturday morning and what arrived was a skirt steak, tender and vibrant with fresh chimichurri sauce, two buttered eggs over easy (cooked to order) and a side of hash brown potatoes and peppers. No I didn't need to ask for ketchup because Hamilton's just knows. They are solid with their bar offerings and a mimosa is respected. But dining with little ones? Or not a drinker? Hamilton's offers a delectable array of exotic mock tails that can make your evening with your non-drinker special. Go for dinner and try their broiled salmon. Or their Mediterranean bowl. Came here after a half-marathon with friends and had a pleasant experience. We were sat right away in a nicely decorated outdoor section. We split a flight of beer and two freshly squeezed lemonades which were DELICIOUS. It was the right balance between sweet and tart. The food was good, fresh and came out quickly. The grilled cheese and the bacon Mac n cheese were highlights. The portions are a little small, so I do recommend getting a side or ordering multiple things for the table to try and splitting amongst everyone. Hamilton's reached out and apologized for our experience, and I really appreciate that. I was more upset about how rude the waitress was, than the mistake that was made. And they apologized for that. Food was good, I enjoyed the grilled chicken sandwich and my youngest enjoyed the Cobb. Our waitress was rude. When my daughter ordered her drink the same as mine after my drink was served, she said "I wish I knew that." Then she put in for the reg French toast instead of the children's one I ordered for my child. The regular one had nuts. The children's one did not list nuts. They had the nerve to argue with me. They later apologized since I was correct. Then they told me I couldn't have the kids French toast cause brunch was over! Then they said the chef would do it, like they were doing me the favor. We went into this neighborhood restaurant Hamiltons while visiting some old friends. It was a perfect place to meet while still obliging all the rules of COVID-19. Social distancing was taking place and everyone was wearing a mask. My meal was was delish an artichoke salad complemented with delicious beans in a fantastic dressing of garlic and oil. Hamilton's is a true neighborhood joint that you can always depend on for a hearty meal. The interior is cozy and lived in (I mean this in a good way - some restaurants feel sterile and unrelatable, here you can be yourself). I've been here twice for brunch and have enjoyed both of my experiences. The first time I got the kale salad with chicken which was sooo delicious. Today I got huevos rancheros. It was great, but I think grating the cojita over the black beans would have made for better plating. Didn't hurt the taste though! My husband raved about the Ella Fitzgerald sandwich. *sigh* I WANT to like Hamilton's so so badly, if for no other reason that it's the closest cozy bar & eatery to my apartment. Their sister restaurant, Hilltop Tavern, is absolutely lovely - great food, great service. Hamilton's, on the other hand, is consistently hit or miss. The food is frequently lacking salt, the salads soggy, hamburger buns crumble in your hands. Service is confusing, the staff seems untrained (food runner served a hot plate directly into my hands & had to be reminded to bring silverware) and irritated by the presence of customers. I guess they stay in business by the rush of wine moms at after-school pickup... or the lack of competition in the neighborhood. (hint hint to any aspiring area restauranteurs) I'm sure I'll be back but maybe just for a drink at the bar... not sure how the kitchen forgot to salt the potatoes but they did. Brunch is reasonably priced, and the food is decent. The ambiance is not for every crowd, but it's spacious for couples and groups. Most of the wait staff is good. There's a cute, nice, young blond guy that greeted and seated us. However, our waitress had a bit of an attitude, total RBF, seems like the type who probably shouldn't be in the service business. I used to live pretty close to this place and went there probably at least 10 times. They don't have a whole lot of things on their menu but what they do have is pretty good. I like their orzo which comes with spinach, feta cheese and pine nuts. They have the option to put chicken or shrimp in it but I prefer vegetarian. I had the grilled salmon a few times and at times it was perfect, crispy on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside and at times it was dry so not always consistent, however it is reasonably priced considering what grilled salmon would cost you at other places near by. I like the option of sitting outside, that works out very well if you prefer to have some privacy. I like the lights that they have outside as well and the fire heating apparatuses, whatever those are called. I really enjoyed the soju alcoholic drink they have there, my favorite being the guava jalapeño one, very tasty indeed. The service was always good, kind of laid back and their bathroom is very clean and quite charming. Even though the salmon was not always perfect, never the less it was always a good experience coming here so I give it a 5. read more

I've only been here once and my visit was pleasant. I happened to come across this place while strolling around the area. It was a nice day and decided to pop in for a quick drink. The Bees Knees piqued my interest so of course I had to try it. The drink was not overly sweet. It's shaken with ice and poured into a cute little glass. But don't worry it comes with extra. We enjoyed a late lunch here today, on a Monday. Good food (Reuben sandwich, salmon and cod burger, bread pudding), drinks (nice beer selection and a not-too-sweet cider), waitstaff, atmosphere, A/C, music and street parking! Relaxing atmosphere, we did not encounter any of the issues reported by others. Nowhere is cheap any more, but we thought it was reasonably priced. We came here 3 or 4 years ago on a weekend. On that occasion, we thought it was OK, not great, but decided to give it another try. We'll be back. They have an abundance of outdoor seating, and they are located in Windsor Terrace where there appears to be no shortage of money. What an awful place! I went to this place not because it was the best restaurant on the block or in the neighborhood - it is not. I went there because someone in my office suggested that it was within a few block radius, and that she could leave more quickly. I had proposed going to a much better restaurant close by - which, incidentally, is Le Paddock. I have purchased meals from this place through the present pandemic, went there in person several times, and brought customers there for breakfast. I have purchased on-sale items while walking past or coming to pick up orders from the restaurant through the pandemic as well. To say I have given patronage and loyalty to this place during the most trying times would be an understatement! We ordered our meals. We were sitting next to another person who I recognized that was working on creating a better website nearby. She was a relatively regular customer of the place was well. After finishing our meals, the person at my table went to leave, and the person at the next table came over to my table - where we continued to order a glass of wine. The check was brought to me - I did not realize that by bringing the check to me, that meant I had to leave. We still had half-full drinks in our glasses, as, I guess, a line began to build outside. Within minutes after getting the bill, one of the owners walked up to the table. "I can't believe that you don't understand" was at least part of the very first sentence she said to me and my guest, implying she needed the table for people that were waiting. I said that I was not finished with my glass of wine, and actually intended on ordering another. We also both pointed out that we actually consolidated our tables as a favor to her, and that she could continue to serve other customers when the other tables cleared. I did not think that I needed to vacate the table to give her space to continue to make money off of other people. This individual - who again continued to say that she could not believe that we did not "understand" kept hovering over the table, suggesting we did not even have a few minutes to either finish our drinks or order more. She wanted the tables for others, and finishing our meal was of no concern to her. She then said we needed to leave, and literally grabbed what we were drinking out of our hands. She must have repeated another three times that she did not relate to why we did not "understand." Incidentally, we walked from this place to another blocks away where we were served, at a location where they needed business in the middle of these trying times. That restaurant will be patronized again; Hamilton's, as me and my guest stated to the owner, will not be. There are many places in the neighborhood better than Hamilton's where you can get a meal in the neighborhood without being forced to leave because the restaurant wants to make money off of other people. I will even name them: Le Paddock (French) Werkstatt (German) La Loba Cantina (Mexican) Della Restaurant (American Italian & other) There are other places nearby as well, so I can't say the list has been exhausted. There are other places where you can either sit down to eat in a more fast-paced environment, which are both good and where they won't force you to leave very quickly. This includes: Batata Restaurant (Middle Eastern) Stang Thai (Thai Food) Uncle Frankie's (Italian) Hinterlands Bar Adirondack Bar There are many other restaurants in the area that I might have missed, that either serve good food or where the service is not utterly rude. However, if you want good food with good service, DO NOT go to Hamilton's. You can expect to be treated like crap by the owner, and there are so many better other restaurants close by. read more
