Love this place and love that they're open at all hours. Hamilton's is the nicest brunch spot around with something on the menu for everyone (including picky kids). It's become my go to for breakfast, brunch, lunch or dinner whenever anyone comes to visit me in my new quiet, almost suburban neighborhood. The waitress seemed like she wanted to be anywhere but there. One part of my order was forgotten. I left the coffee untouched after a sip. It was not drinkable. . No reaction from waitress. I've been meaning to come here for a while now. Alchemy, their sister restaurant, is one of my favorite places to go for their great food, service and half priced food and drink menu. I figured if Alchemy is such a great place, Hamilton's has to be just as good...right? Maybe not as good, but fairly good. Well, some aspects. I arrived with 2 people and we were immediately asked by someone how many we were and if we wanted to sit inside or outside. We chose outside. The woman walked away to grab some menus and within 3 seconds, another woman came by and asked the same thing. Then, the first woman came back and sat us. After a minute or so, someone came for our drink order, and yet again, about a minute later, someone else came by for the same thing. Come on people. Either the restaurant has too many staff who don't know what to do, or someone is a terrible communicator. The first woman who took our drink order became our waitress. She was super friendly and all smiles each time she approached our table. She either thought one of us was cute or was high on drugs...she was that happy. 2 of us got the beef hash with 2 sunny side eggs and 1 got 3 scrambled eggs with potatoes. We also got a honey-ginger cocktail, which was subtly sweet and filled with chunks of fresh ginger and a Bloody Mary which had good flavor but was slightly watered down and was lacking on the spice factor. I should mention that the woman who poured the cocktail (not Smiles) gave me a mini bath, noticed, and didn't apologize or offer to clean the table or my pants. The beef hash was tender and the eggs were perfectly done. It came with a side salad which was fresh and a light dressing on top. The beef hash, although filling, was significantly more hash than it was beef. So technically it was hash beef. Maybe that's why our waitress was so happy! Now it's all coming together. Hamiltons strikes out. We really wanna like this place but there's always something. Today we walked over and got a table, wasn't very busy. Ordered a round and then waited and waited and waited for the second round. At which point we were told (before we got our drinks) that we had to move tables to the "drinking table" (which was clearly an end table they pulled out of the restaurant not a real table). Our bill was $40 already with just the 4 drinks. We would have stayed and drank more and probably ate eventually. Either way we felt insulted. I would understand if it was 2 ppl at a 4 top. Granted it was filling up a bit but as we were leaving there were at least 2-3 tables being cleaned. Someone just didn't want us sitting and drinking and taking in the day in their section I guess. I used to patronize this restaurant all of the time (see reviews) until one night the owner began screaming at me (no exaggeration) that me and my friend "always wanted free meals." Somehow we're lived here for over a year and this is our first time at Hamilton's! We figured we should go out now before it gets too cold to sit outside. They were one of the first to really pivot to outdoor service in COVID-19 times, commandeering several parking spaces for customer seating. When all of the seats are taken, it looks way too crowded here for me, definitely not six feet distancing. So we picked a quiet time and I'm glad we came here! I recommend the French toast from the brunch menu. I'm a bit disappointed that the French toast was served with maple syrup and butter instead of citrus custard and honey almond butter (as advertised) but mostly just impressed that they made a bread cube! How??? My dining companion recommends the spinach omelette. They aren't putting out salt, pepper etc on the tables anymore, so you have to ask for it. They're also not giving our menus, so you have to scan the code on the table (it would be nice if they included their WiFi password on that, because if you don't have data, how are you supposed to access the menu?). Generally I think they're doing the best they can to try to stay solvent while not endangering anyone, and I think that's about all you can expect at the moment. Probably one of the best and better bars and restaurants in the further deep Windsor Terrace/Kensington border neighborhood. I've come here only twice so far but their beer selection is top notch. They have a happy hour but it sadly always ends super early at 6:30pm. Barely feasible if I rush home from work and immediately order a drink. But it entails $2 off all beers/cocktails, $5 wines, $5 mini burgers, mussels, and $2 off Sigmund's (which tastes like sex) pretzels. The first time I came was in the middle of the summer and we were situated outdoors in their cafe area. They had cute little electronic glowy fake candles and complimentary corn nuts that were seasoned so well we ate like two bowls of them. We had split an order of their elbows in white cheddar cream with breadcrumbs and bacon. For only $7 it was a pretty substantial small side of macaroni and not too shabby. Really creamy but flavorful and toasted on top for a nice texture. The macaroni was 4 stars and definitely a winner. I came back a few weeks ago to finish up my brooklyn beer book coupon with a friend. This time around we sat at the bar and I noticed they had more than one mermaid statue, that I quickly filed down photos of because of a certain person obsessed with all things involving mer-creatures. The beer menu was as awesome as I had remembered as last time switching from trying sour beers and goses over the summer to now in the winter embarking on some porters and stouts. I chose for my beer the Anchor Steam's Big Leaf Maple but not after sampling the Pretty Things Babayaga Stout. If you've never had a dark beer infused with rosemary, you've never lived. Glad to have a decent bar and restaurant out in this neighborhood and so close to my apartment. Just wish their happy hour ran a bit longer! read more

What an odd joy to finally be able to go out for brunch again. Lots of gluten free options at Hamilton's. They have udi's hamburger buns ($2.50 upcharge), rice pasta, and rosti! If you're not familiar a rosti is like a swiss potato pancake. They serve the rosti dish with smoked salmon, sour cream, and a perfect sunnyside up egg ($12). They also offer a gf pale ale & a New York unfiltered, dry cider ($7) which is what I went with. What a great way to round out this Hamilton weekend! read more

Great addition to the neighborhood. Fantastic beer and wine menu, and the small plates are as delicious as they should be. Service excellent -- we had a feisty waitress who recited the specials and slung the zingers like a pro -- and seemed to know every inch of the menu. As far as I could tell, there's no "theme," per se, along the lines of Le Paddock -- it's just a decent place to grab a drink or treat yourself to a nice meal. Details: to start, my wife and I split the grilled squid small plate, which was accompanied by sliced fingerlings and a spicy chili-lime olive tapenade. For dinner, I had the seared hake, which was served on a bed of sweet leek, onion, and shiitake mushrooms. My wife enjoyed a small plate of seared tuna served on a slaw. Both were excellent. To wash it down, I opted for two beers that were new to me: Dark Horse's Boffo Brown (bitter, smoky) and a Shipyard Thumper Ale (mild, inoffensive), while my wife availed herself of the Sangiovese and Syrah. Dessert was a scrumptious flourless chocolate tart topped with a few grains of sea salt. In sum: unclear as to whether Hamilton's has "found itself" yet. Aside from the lack of a discernable theme (no demerits, just a fact), the decor doesn't really lend itself to interpretation. It's just a nice, warm space. Background music was a mix of Pixies, Guided By Voices, and The Shins. That doesn't say "thought out" to me, but I'm not sure anyone aside from me cared. Most Windsor Terrace residents are probably just amazed at how Hamilton's completely transformed the well-intentioned but poorly-run Oak and the Iris into a viable neighborhood destination. read more

Hamiltons is our local go to for brunch. Their Swiss Breakfast is amazing. However, I do think they need to adjust their prices a little lower. A good example is the $8 extra they charge for shrimp only to give you 3 or 4. There's some things that are simply a bit of a joke and I'm sure if the owners spend some time looking through Yelp reviews and made some small adjustments they would have 4.5 stars instead of 3.5. Came here on a Sunday morning with my husband. Offered the omelet and my husband ordered the Hamilton eggs Benedict. My only complaint is that the service was slow but the server acknowledged it and offered to comp our drink so they earned their 5th star. I've only ever had drinks here, but everything I've tried has been phenomenal. First of all, the outdoor seating is adorable. Little shrubs everywhere, cute wooden tables/chairs. Very easy to socially distance! The string lights are a beautiful touch, I love coming here at night. Not a full alcohol bar, so don't plan on coming here if you're a beer + shot person, or want to get shiftfaced. I'd take my daughter there once a week, we'd order take out from there, and my husband would stop in there for a beer more than occasionally. SO, my family have given Georgia (the owner of both) a shit ton of money over the years. A little over a year ago, Georgia pulled me aside and told me that she has a problem with me, because I am 'inconsistent' with my tips. 1) I am an immigrant. Came to NYC from Ireland in the 1980's and my father would pay our rent from the tips he made. 2) I don't always have a lot of money; I am a teacher. 3) I always tip whatever I can everywhere I go, and it's always 20%. I've been to Hamilton's for brunch twice now and I wouldn't hesitate to go back again and again. Both the food and the service are excellent! I find the staff to be especially friendly and attentive, and anyone with dietary restrictions take note - they are very knowledgeable about food allergies and food preparation to ensure that you will be safe. While they don't have a full bar (beer & wine), they do serve a Soju Bloody Mary that is FANTASTIC and you'd never notice it had a lower alcohol content than your standard Bloody. It's peppery and horseradishy and, quite frankly, addicting. On the food side of the menu, good luck choosing! There's an emphasis on healthy ingredients, with many organic foods and vegan/vegetarian options. The menu boasts that they "use organic eggs, all natural chicken and grass fed beef" and it shows! The sunny side up eggs atop my beef hash were enormous and delicious. The grass fed burger is to die for, as is the Ella Fitzgerald sandwich which is somewhere between a monte cristo and a croque monsieur. Other diners at my table enjoyed the Tofu Scramble, the Eggs Benedict and the Huevos Rancheros, and we also shared two slices of the Flourless Chocolate Cake and boy was it decadent and amazing! Ugh! Bad Service, Bad Health Habits, Lousy Food! The first (and Last) time I went here was to meet a group of friends. I was greeted by an UNfriendly hostess without a mask. She did NOT ask for any proof of vaccination. I told her I was supposed to meet a group, and she pointed me to a table. I asked my friends at the table if anyone had been asked to show proof of vaccination. Not a single person had been asked, which is in complete violation of NYC health rules......I stayed because I hated to leave my friends. Since I was freezing, I asked the waiter for a cup of tea as soon as possible. The tea never came. I ordered a sandwich with a salad. It all came on the same plate, with the dressing from the salad, making the bread wet on the lower half of the sandwich. Other people at the table were not happy with their orders either. There was also confusion because they have a separate lunch and dinner menu. It was their time to switch menus. But they gave some people one menu, and some people the other, neglected to tell them this affected prices and portion size. We were there less than two hours. I am pleasantly surprised by this place in Windsor Terrace. Their quarantine setup really give them lots of available seats and they're fitted with heating equipment so you won't freeze. The food there is awesome, I love the cod cake had to order it multiple times, their mussels are full of flavor - I choose the spicy broth, shrimp and grits was nice and creamy, their burgers are great, we had their date cake which was delicious. They've got an interesting cocktail menu due to the neighborhood but the soju cocktails they have are amazing, highly recommend! After witnessing the owner of this place scream at a patron this weekend I am done. I've seen this owner do this before and it is upsetting to watch her wrath. The truth is the food has been going downhill for some time and the vibe here is always very negative. And I believe this could be due to the way the staff is treated. The salad invariably has rotten tomatoes in it and tastes as if it has been sitting in dressing all day long. The cocktails are all comprised of soju so you may as well be drinking lemonade. In the aftermath of COVID people will be more discerning as to how they spend their money and where they spend their time. The mom would fork a little mad money, said when I take the kid out and about that this is a nice neighborhood stop to chill-and kid knew to be polite and behave we would toast to life and share potato wedges. A love coming to this place for brunch on weekends. They have a great variety of things to eat and also some unique items as well. The portions for breakfast, brunch and dinner items are not big but it fills you up enough. You can get some nice things to eat like Lox with French Toast and Ice Cream in espresso. The food is also really good so the price with the portions I think is worth it. You can get some nice beer selections here. One of my favorite brands, "Blue Point" is here and I enjoy the toasted lager. The seating here is fantastic. In the summer you can sit outside which is really pleasant because there is a catholic church nearby. Inside there is a good amount of seating. It can sometimes be crowded some days for groups but nothing to complain about and the bar is always available. The staff here is very pleasant and nice. They are always checking up on you and offer a lot of good suggestions on the menu. You can tell they have built a great relationship with the community, as they discuss various topics with regulars. I was really hoping Hamilton's would be better than it is. We moved into the neighborhood down the street and have been three times. Resounding and consistent "meh" on the food. None of it is BAD (except the cocktails) but it is very boring and pricey. Doesn't feel like it has a soul, like someone wrote down on paper what they thought sounded like a good menu then called it a day. Works for some people, but not me. Service has been hit or miss. The first time we felt very attended to in the dining room. The second time we were treated nicely but eventually felt kinda forgotten on the outside side area. The third time, at the bar, we got a "holier than though" vibe from the bartender. He was very put-offish and kind of snide, obviously preferring to talk to people he knew better than us, which is fine until you start making me feel like I'm inconveniencing you. I get taking care of your regulars, but don't treat first timers like tourists, I don't put up with that from places with good cocktails man. Speaking of, they sure like soju for a place that doesn't know what to do with it. I think they think it's latin or Spanish with all the jalapeño and pineapple and cava they mix in there. Kinda plays to my "feels soul-less" critique earlier. Soju is Korean (unless it's spelled shochu, then it's Japanese ), so throw some shiso in there. Or pay a little bit more money to update your liquor license to include the vodka you feel soju is a replacement for, I don't know. When seating people instead of saying sit over there, how about walking customers over to where you want them to sit. This works much better compared to asking customers to get up and move after the fact. I thought we all learned about proper sanitary techniques living through a pandemic? But clearly not, but It's quite simple really, you buy soap and a scrub brush, you apply a generous amount of soap to brush and you use some elbow grease "work" to clean the plates, silverware, and cups of old food, lipstick etc.. Perhaps use youtube to search how to clean dishes? I also heard about a new invention that is coming out very soon and will be available to the public, it's going to be called a "dishwasher." Once you get past the previous obstacles and still feel adventurous like I did, then try the food. I had the huevos rancheros, it's ok but quite bland. But, I did enjoy the racist comments of the employees in the background that made me ponder does Hamilton's support Black Lives Matter? Such a pleasure brunching here with friends today! After volunteering with the Sean Casey animal shelter nearby we stopped here for a bite after seeing lots of folks eating outside through the morning. Drinks were great, my friend enjoyed the ginger honey while I got the spike hot chocolate- that was such a tasty treat served in a giant coffee mug that made me very happy :) Brunch was really reasonably priced and delish. Hamilton's is the neighborhood's essential spot for good beer, company, and food. It also rides along a line of inconsistency and is a bit overpriced, which makes it hard to love this place. I come back every once in awhile, but I'll be wary when it comes to service and food. I've been here more than enough times, and run into either slow service, mediocre food, and of most recent, a friend of mine had a bout of food poisoning after dining here. I've been for brunch and dinner, both inconsistent experiences. The positives, I'll say their beer list is great. They don't have a full liquor license, so their cocktails are supplemented with soju. They have outdoor seating, big plus during warmer days. As for the negatives, the service is inconsistent. I've waited nearly an hour for our food during brunch, other times I'll get served within reason. Our server will be enthusiastic, other times, the server will just walk off and disappear. In regards to food, it can be a hit or miss. I didn't like the burger very much, and they cooked our burgers inconsistent to each other even though we had both asked for medium rare. I don't care for the side of potato wedges at all. The kimchi fried rice is okay, but is expensive at $17 ($2 extra for a fried egg). The Reuben sandwich is a good choice. The mac n cheese is also a good side. Their brunch is not bad, but I'll order the eggs benedict and get either a runny egg or an overboiled egg. My friend had the mussels here, and they looked great. Unfortunately he had food poisoning a few hours after that meal. It's a friendly neighborhood bar where the locals can catch up and dine. It's hard to find a place like Hamilton's in the area, so it's definitely an essential spot. I can't ignore some of the issues I've run into though. I wish for more consistency with each visit. Or if you want good food, you sit in a fancy restaurant and order a cocktail. This is a great bar and a great restaurant ! I was very surprised by how good the food is. Between the visit there recently and the one prior to that I've had mussels, kale salad, artichoke salad, crostini with goat cheese, spices olives and smoked salmon, ginger honey cocktail, lemon custard in a jar, French toast brioche dessert. Brunch was excellent both times I went. My go to breakfast of fluffy eggs and home fries was a level above what I'm used too. They've got some interesting breakfast sandwich combos too-- check out the Ella Fitzgerald. All of the cocktails are soju-based, if you dig that, and there are some microbrews on tap. The "Tricerahops" is a pro choice for those of you who like strong, hoppy IPA's. I hope they keep it on tap.
