Came where awhile back as part of the Queens Beer Book with Ingrid S. Good beer selection here and really nice interior and exterior environments. We chose to sit outside since it was a nice day and service was friendly and efficient. We also got complimentary seasoned corn things to eat and they were really delicious, we even got a second serving - huzzah! Tons of mermaid stuff inside makes me a super happy camper - plus a delicious fruity Gose beer and a pretty delightful mac n' cheese rounded out my experience here quite nicely. Hamilton's is the neighborhood's essential spot for good beer, company, and food. It also rides along a line of inconsistency and is a bit overpriced, which makes it hard to love this place. I come back every once in awhile, but I'll be wary when it comes to service and food. I've been here more than enough times, and run into either slow service, mediocre food, and of most recent, a friend of mine had a bout of food poisoning after dining here. I've been for brunch and dinner, both inconsistent experiences. The positives, I'll say their beer list is great. They don't have a full liquor license, so their cocktails are supplemented with soju. They have outdoor seating, big plus during warmer days. As for the negatives, the service is inconsistent. I've waited nearly an hour for our food during brunch, other times I'll get served within reason. Our server will be enthusiastic, other times, the server will just walk off and disappear. In regards to food, it can be a hit or miss. I didn't like the burger very much, and they cooked our burgers inconsistent to each other even though we had both asked for medium rare. I don't care for the side of potato wedges at all. The kimchi fried rice is okay, but is expensive at $17 ($2 extra for a fried egg). The Reuben sandwich is a good choice. The mac n cheese is also a good side. Their brunch is not bad, but I'll order the eggs benedict and get either a runny egg or an overboiled egg. My friend had the mussels here, and they looked great. Unfortunately he had food poisoning a few hours after that meal. It's a friendly neighborhood bar where the locals can catch up and dine. It's hard to find a place like Hamilton's in the area, so it's definitely an essential spot. I can't ignore some of the issues I've run into though. I wish for more consistency with each visit. Or if you want good food, you sit in a fancy restaurant and order a cocktail. This is a great bar and a great restaurant ! I was very surprised by how good the food is. Between the visit there recently and the one prior to that I've had mussels, kale salad, artichoke salad, crostini with goat cheese, spices olives and smoked salmon, ginger honey cocktail, lemon custard in a jar, French toast brioche dessert. I came to Hamilton's with my girlfriend the other day. It was very slow and just started serving the dinner menu. (They change the menu according to time, brunch, lunch, dinner) They gave us corn nuts which are amazing! And Free! I got a delicious Root Beer that I believe the guy said was a local soda company. Simply amazing. Very spiced up yet sweet. I loved it. Amanda was our server My girlfriend got a regular beer (can't think of the name) but she liked it as well. She usually doesn't drink off tap due to miss-care of the tap system causing the beer to taste like crap. But she likes the tap at Hamilton's! We both got the Veggie burger which was okay. I wish it had more of a kick? Maybe something spicy or even salty. Other than that, it just takes like black bean. I do like the poppy seed bun, because I HATE sesame seed buns. This place is an oasis in a sleepy neighborhood dining wasteland. After an obsolete Yelp review steered me to a closed venue, we hiked up here and had a very good meal with awesome beers. They had me at grilled local squid (with fingerling potatoes, spicy-chili tapenade, and lemon). The pulled-pork sandwich was good as well, though I kind of wished there were more options on the sandwich menu. But what's there is good. Service was slow but friendly. I am torn about this place. With the exception of the burger, the food is mostly mediocre, and on occasion, like something my kid would serve to me on Mother's Day morning. In fact, one recent-ish breakfast sandwich consisted of overcooked eggs and burnt bacon. Even my go-to Burger is best ordered when the place isn't too busy to better guarantee it won't be cooked past my preferred medium-rare. What this place does well is create an ambience that somehow feels welcoming both to locals hanging at the bar to get their drink on, and toddlers nibbling on mac 'n cheese and oven fries at neighboring tables. I'm a fan of the M-F Happy Hour, though the featured Pinot Grigio isn't the best. I confess that the last time I was here, I could not deal with a second glass of the stuff and ordered a "regular price" Albarino even though Happy Hour had not yet ended. But most of the time, I'm not that discerning. Hubby loves the $2.00 off deal for selected craft beer on tap. Whatever you do, do not order a Soju Cocktail. So not well-balanced. So not worth drinking. Ultimately, I am grateful to have this spot in the 'hood. But it has succeeded as long as it has because it is the only place like it along the "Fort Hamilton Parkway restaurant strip." Don't think twice about getting the Mac & Cheese. And add the bacon. I picked it as an entree and had trouble finishing it. The Brussels sprouts topped with lemon and feta are deeeelicious and perfectly charred. Brussels sprouts are usually a hit or miss item, and these are cooked to perfection. We were less impressed with the burger which was on the smaller size. Not sure it was worthy of the $15 price tag but it was prepared well. Don't forget to end your meal with the lemon tart. They switch out the standard graham cracker crust for saltines, and I was a bit skeptical at first but it is so freakin' delicious. If you're a fan of sweet/salty you'll love this. Pro tip: scoop out the tart onto your plate. We did this at the suggestion of the waitress and it made it so much easier to get the perfect bite. read more

You know, it is the little things that stand out in your mind, good or bad, that shade your opinion of a place. In Hamilton's case, it was a mere 50¢. More on that later. We sat outside after being seated for 10 minutes before a server arrived to greet us, but when she did, I ordered a Bell's Two Hearted IPA , but all the drafts are $6-$7, MUCH LESS than most places in the NYC metro and they have a GREAT SELECTION. I had to hunt down another server because ours was nowhere to be found, ordering a Smuttynose Old Brown Dog (also $6 on the menu), but after another 10 minutes our food had arrived and still no Smuttynose, so I reminded our server. It arrived 5 minutes later while my dinner cooled whether it needed to or not. My wife ordered the large Salty Pretzel ($4) and a Mac and Cheese appetizer ($8). The Mac and Cheese arrived with my sandwich, but we had to remind the server about her pretzel which took an additional 5 minutes to arrive. The pretzel was good, but it was hot from the oven and too crunchy, not warm, soft, and chewy as a good pretzel should be. The mac and cheese was tasty and a decent size portion for an appetizer. My Reuben Sandwich ($15) was piled high with "house made corned beef", sauerkraut, Swiss cheese, and thousand island dressing. It was very good overall, but the house made corned beef had a slightly strange aftertaste which I could not quite put my finger on, or my tongue in this case. The accompanying potato wedges were scarce, but decent, nothing special. When the check arrived, I have to admit that it was one of the smallest totals we have seen since arriving in NYC, but the Smuttynose was listed at $7 instead of the $6 stated on the menu. I called our server over, showed her the menu and the check, and asked her to make the correction to the $1 error. Those things happen. But when she came back, she had NOT deducted the $1 error, but had discounted the check by a mere 50¢! Rather than argue about the 50¢, I deducted it from her 20% tip along with a tad more for her inattention during our meal. It is always the small things. Hands down THE BEST Bacon Mac & Cheese I have ever tasted. This coming from someone who doesn't even like Mac & Cheese to begin with!. I ordered it for my son and decided to take a few nibbles because it looked appetizing. Lo and behold, I was astounded. I would probably give this place a solid 5 stars if their Crab Cake was bigger at the price that they are asking for. However, it was still delicious despite the size. Came here on my birthday. The reason we came here was because there was outdoor seating and I could bring my puppy. The must try item here is the bacon mac and cheese. I am not a big fan of mac and cheese but the generous portion of bacon in this dish turned me into a fan. The grilled octopus was great as well. Finally got a chance to get here!!! I'm in love. We got a super simple dinner including the Mac & cheese, the 4 different draft beers (forgot what it's called), a biscuit. I wanted so much more but they are a little pricey..but that still allows them to be given 5 stars. I loved their beer selection and was super excited that I got to try some new beers out! The biscuit was really big and really good especially with the honey butter. I'm typically one not to eat anything with honey in it because I hate the taste of it, but this was an exception! Cute little place on a corner. Nice old punky music selection. Glassware was a bit spotty. They might want to call the company that takes care of their dishwasher machine. I'd give them 3-1/2 stars if I could. Very casual service like many comfort food restaurants. When I walked in, there wasn't even anyone to get me for about s minute or two, as the bar maid who was waiting on tables had gone out to get something. The mesclun salad that came with the sandwich had a pretty boring dressing. The Reuben Sandwich was a bit odd and didn't have a very big portion of corned beef in it, but the beef was soft and tasty, and the bread was great. I definitely liked the sandwich. It was decent. I've been coming here for probably the past... four years or so? What can I say? I feel like every time I fall in love with a dish here, it disappears from the menu (RIP to the amazing vegetarian orzo dish with pine nuts they used to have), but there's always something that sounds good. Love the bartender and that they play baseball on the bar TVs. They apparently can't sell most types of liquor due to their proximity to the church across the street (who knew?) but the soju cocktails are good. Truthfully, the food is good but I come in consistently for the atmosphere. It's got a real classic Brooklyn vibe with a lot of old-guard neighborhood folks coming in as well as younger people. Where else are you going to eat a burger while Marty Markowitz chats you up? (Oh, most places in Windsor Terrace? Well, my point still stands.) NO DOGS ALLOWED: I called to make a reservation for brunch and mentioned we were walking a mile or so WITH A DOG and would love a table outside. The woman I spoke to said "Don't worry just come by. We're not that busy." We got there and we're told that they had a "no dogs policy." I pointed to a dog (see photo) belonging to one of the patrons. "What about THAT dog?" I have been going to Hamilton's on occasion for the past couple of months, supporting this local business during the pandemic. For me, the kitchen / menu and location have been the most consistent and positive aspects, which are represented by the two stars. Unfortunately, I made a reservation for a late lunch on Sunday, and my party was seated after our scheduled time (despite all of my party being there about ten minutes early) and we waited over an hour for our food while other parties who were seated after us got their food. I had to get up from the table to ask the status of our food and no one came back with an update or an apology, just "the kitchen is busy," which doesn't make sense if other tables after and around us got their meals before we did. I also had to ask for silverware, to which the hostess responded, "You get that with your food," while the table right next to her just got their menus and fresh silverware. I had to point that out to her. No one came to check on us during the meal. There were two women (a supposed hostess and perhaps manager or owner??) who had some pretty obvious chips on their shoulders, trying to explain their way out of things when you make a normal and / or simple request and actually giving attitude towards the end of the meal is not only unprofessional, it really "puts a bad taste" in my mouth. Each of us will probably boycott the place. Unfortunately, I strongly discourage anyone from going here for the lack of customer service and humanity. If you want an unpleasant experience, look no further. If your food shows up about an hour late, don't expect any attention, apologies or any discounts on your bill. It was the worst service I have received in a really long time and I would have likely received better service from most any other establishment, even Walmart or Walgreens or some diner in the middle of nowhere. They were lucky to have capable chefs and a nice waitress yesterday. Quite disorganized and stank overall, though. Won't be going back unless they get new and better management. Came here for brunch on a Sunday afternoon. The place isn't huge so seating can be tight. Started off with a Bloody Mary. A nicely done homemade mix. Slightly spicy, but not overwhelming. For my meal I had the Ella Fitzgerald. A breakfast sandwich named after one of my favorite singers. How can I go wrong! It was very good, as were the potato wedges that I got with it! My daughter and I decided this was the choice for dinner. We walked from her place and when we get there, I decide it's a nice night to eat on patio. The hostess tells that we can do that, but then forgets to tell the waitress as we sit unattended. Lol. I get her attention and she is new, but apologized like ten times over. Just the right amount of spice. The salad was very good too. We then decided to share a strawberry shortcake with there home made biscuit used as the cake. Different but very good. I live not too far from this place. It's basically the hipster bar that serves soju-created drinks (no liquor license) and beer and well, what they consider food. There are MUCH better choices. Went there on three separate occasions. First, crab cakes were frozen solid in the middle. When I pointed this out to the waiter, he disagreed with me and said it was me. I asked to see the "chef". Guy comes out, I ask him to touch the middle of the "freshly made" crab cakes which were frozen. He agreed with me and apologized and said they weren't fresh nor were they "freshly made as the menu states." Second time. Sat "outside. This time was evidence of the really poor service (server stood 1 table away for 20 minutes "discussing" some role she was auditioning for with her friends while I went inside and got our own drinks from the bar). When I pointed this out to the bartender and the server who finally came over to our table after I had fetched our drinks, guess her conversation was finished, she rolled her eyes and walked away. If you don't like your job, if you find it beneath you, perhaps you're in the wrong profession. Check other reviews. Read the other non-fake reviews. Service here is cited as a pretty big problem. Third occasion. Date and I got mussels. WOW could the price be any higher? If I wanted to pay Manhattan prices I'd go to a place that doesn't give us food poisoning from their mussels. I thought I was the only one, but it seems a few other people have pointed out that the place has given them food poisoning as well. Don't get the crab cakes. Don't expect good service. But, every time I do, I swear it will be the last time. The food is basically food you can cook at home- pasta in spicy cream sauce, grilled sandwiches, etc. The best thing on the menu are probably the potato wedges. Tucked away into a quaint little neighborhood you'll find this pleasant organic, vegan-friendly restaurant. I've only ever been for brunch and it's always very packed but for good reason. The restaurant has an open concept set-up with a bar and kitchen at the back center of it. It's warm and welcoming.The staff is always friendly and service is pretty quick even on their busy days! Brunch here is simply the best! You can't go wrong with any of their menu choices. My favorites so far have been the Brioche French toast, Huevos Rancheros and of course the infamous Ella Fitzgerald sandwich! The first 2 are classics and you can't go wrong with that! Maybe add an extra side of bacon to complete your meal. The Ella Fitz though is just something else! My boyfriend and I have argued on more than one occasion about who gets to order it...haha don't worry I always get a bite! It's like a spin on a french croque monsieur sandwich and it's oh so good! Real cozy vibes with a robust outdoor seating arrangement. Service can always be a bit hit or miss, but great staff overall. I also had the shrimp and grits. Again, very tasty. The problem actually came with my friends' orders. One of them ordered a soup, it was burnt.
