The Adirondack = Solid Neighborhood Bar. Easy Equation. Food: 4/5 A small menu of bar bites are offered up. From hot dogs to a salami sandwich. I tried the soft pretzel with the home-made Kentucky beer cheese and it's pretty good. Beer: 4/5 Cans and drafts plus a full bar. Variety is okay. Seems to be leaning heavily towards IPAs. Cans are $10 for the most part. Lots of NY representation for the craft beer selection. Service: 5/5 Service is good! Friendly and prompt. Very helpful. The barkeep checked out the pretzel to make sure there wasn't any egg in it. Ambiance: 5/5 Very chill and low-key - just like a neighborhood bar should be. It's great to seat outside on a nice day but the inside is quite cozy and welcoming too. There's one TV at the bar in case you're looking to catch any games. This gem has been an all time favorite for me in the Kensington/Windsor Terrace/Prospect Park area for a few years now. I love sitting indoors and outdoors, in the summer or winter. I usually get a mug of cider and a vegan hot dog. I would actually recommend getting two hot dogs every time, they are so delicious. It must be how they drizzle the ketchup and mustard all over it for me so well. Tip your bar tender and talk to your neighbors at the bar because the folks are decent and kind here. One of my favorite neighborhood corner spots. Doesn't hurt being directly above the train stairs. Great simple cocktails, quality pints, and a couple cheap cans. Friendly service in a mountain cabin. Only thing missing is the fireplace and the slopes. read more

I've been here a few times and I was extremely uncomfortable. First time there was some people openly in skin tight leather fetish gear, including gas masks (not sure how you drink with one of those), not something I expected to be tolerated here. And the second time the bartender who was a young women appeared to be very intoxicated and was extremely rude and embarrassing to watch, had to leave because it was just sad. Solid place for a quick drink with friends. I got the frozen margarita to match the warm 80-degree weather. There is plenty of seating indoors and outdoors with a similar wide variety of regulars and group gatherings all over the bar. Great bar to chill alone or with friends. The bar looks like a mountain large lounge right down to the lamps with deer on them. They have a good selection of local beer. I had the cheapest one and it went well with my warm pretzel. The bartenders make good Negronis too. Adirondack has a friendly, comfortable vibe. I'll definitely go back again. read more

Did you know that Khalid can taste music? The man does it all: make music and taste distinct flavors in music. In fact, he recently did an ad campaign for Postmates that brings one of his new songs to life through a custom-made smoothie that fans can order for delivery. Oh wait--I forgot that normal people don't actually pay attention to ads. My mistake. But please allow me the opportunity to one-up Khalid: if you could hear, taste, and feel what a night at The Adirondack is like, it would be "Meet Me In the City" by the Black Keys from the bar playlist, old fashioned after old fashioned made by the bartender Kristen with love (after she gives you a round of shots on the house and throws one back with you and your friends), and a warm cabin smack dab in Brooklyn that'll offer a cozy wintry night full of hope and potential. A few days before I left Brooklyn, my roommates sent me off with a night at The Adirondack. It's a neighborhood bar--not a place to have a wild night with hazy memories--but I think it was an apt choice. Love this bar. One of my favorite things about this neighborhood is The Adirondack. The regular patrons are a great crowd, the bartenders are awesome, and the sandwiches are delicious. My friends that live in some of the trendier areas wish they had a spot like this in their neighborhood. As a native New Yorker, I have been to a plethora of bars in my lifetime. Some range from okay to Amazing. I can honestly say The Adirondack is definitely in the Amazing category. The vibe is relaxing and chill, the beer menu has a lot of great selections, and the staff are all very welcoming and friendly. Every time I have come here, I have been treated so well, as the staff here are very attentive and friendly. This place is welcoming towards everyone, no matter where you're from. Having attentive and caring staff is extremely important, and that is where The Adirondack truly shines. I feel we are lucky to have a such a great place to relax and have a few drinks, especially during these times. It's not often that I travel to Brooklyn, as I live in Astoria now, but when I am in the area, I make sure to come by The Adirondack. NYC has a seemingly endless ocean of bars, but this place is an island oasis in that overly overwhelming ocean. Not sure why anyone would rate this place lower than 5 stars, this place amazes on every visit. read more

Full disclosure: Not much of a bar goer. If you're reading this, I probably quit drinking before you were born. But, with shelter in place, I figured I'd give The Adirondack a try for some human contact-- for a ginger ale. Which I figured I'd nurse for an hour. In other words, not the greatest customer. The bartender couldn't have been nicer. She small talk a bunch of times-- something you don't get much from pretty girls when you're 60. Never pressured me into buying another ginger ale. (And probably figured she was gonna get a whole $1.00 tip.) I couldn't have felt more welcome. Really great place to have in the neighborhood. And oasis during the pandemic. read more

Cool bartenders? Check. Nice, no frills, non-fussy bar w/ a solid beer list where you can grab a drink alone or come with some friends? Yep. They've got some sandwiches and other lite food but if you want to bring something from outside they're cool with that too! I've been here for a World Cup match, an afternoon of board games and more and each time I leave happier and more relaxed then when I walked in the door. That's a bar that's doing its job. The night before Easter, I walked into this bar with a few of my friends to get two rounds of tequila shots. We were literally going to have our shots and leave. We began to get situated, and sat at the bar, all of us, young males, black or Latino. The bartender says quietly to someone sitting next to me, who appeared to be a regular, "it's getting dark in here..." She laughed about it while the regular sort of shrugged her comment off, seeming not to care much for it. Shocked and appalled and not wanting to cause a scene, I suggested we expedited our shots, paid our bill, tipped her $10 and left. Apparently, the bartender at this establishment, who was a blond female and claims to have been working at this bar since the establishment opened, isn't sensitive to racially diverse patrons. Jokes about skin color is never in order. One day I'll go back to this bar because their beer selections are always on point, but I will not go during her shift. UPDATE: The manager responded to me and basically said she was joking and for me to relax. The truth is, the comment, "it's getting dark in here" was said twice. Once when we walked in, and a second time after we spoke to each other about hearing her say it. So, she referenced it referring to "shade", because she insisted she "wasn't throwing any", so, "it's not getting dark in here", was her recovery statement, but she was already caught. Great neighborhood Brooklyn bar--the kind you miss when you leave Brooklyn (though I never lived in a neighborhood as nice as Windsor Terrace when I was there). Fantastic beer selection here--with just the right seasonals for this time of year (extreme beers, including stouts). Didn't try the food. The place is small and cozy, perfect for reading a newspaper or watching your phone nervously before a low-key date. You don't want to come here to rage or make much noise in general, from the looks of things. Full of local couples and their toddlers when we visited, so beware if you're an anti-breeder. read more

Rude, ignorant, and racist/xenophobic staff. We were treated in a very demeaning and disrespectful way by one staff member and her friend. I came here last night with my girlfriend and another couple, all of us Puerto Ricans living in NYC for over 10 years. The bartender that took our orders was very nice and welcoming. However, one of my friends went to get another round of drinks and came out to ask me what was the name on the credit card we were using. As he was on his way back in to talk with the bartender, this other lady (another staff member: she was a skinny white lady with black hair and tattoos) blocked his way in and started demanding he told her what was the name in the credit card, he told her my name (super common Latino name) to wich she replied "have you ever been to a bar before? I need a real name". This is happening next to me and my girlfriend, I tell the lady my name again, my girlfriend tells her my name again, we repeat the name like five times to her and she is still asking for a real name and saying "we are going to need some fucking spelling here"... She was clearly drunk and/or high, and very rude, ignorant, and racist. Meanwhile this other white guy with a stroller and a baby started being sarcastic with the situation and treating us like if we couldn't speak English, he butchered a few words in Spanish and kept telling us to calm down. I was obviously very upset and confused with the situation, I walked passed her and went to close the check with our original bartender. When the racist staff member noticed my attitude and how all of us were upset (and calling her out), she then tried to gaslight us. She sat on our table, disregarding social distancing, and told my girlfriend "you are just so beautiful, I wanted to tell you that". My girlfriend replied "why are you acting like you don't understand the name?" while the woman just kept saying that she just needed a name and ignoring what my girlfriend was saying while paying her compliments about her hair and skin color. This woman was speaking to my girlfriend as if she was a child. We paid and left while the woman and the man with the baby kept telling us that everything was "okay". We liked going to this bar before all of this and I don't think the bartender inside realized what was going on outside but I'll definitely think twice about coming back if this if the kind of staff they employ. read more

It divey neighborhood bar in Windsor Terrace. The scene looks like a bunch of regulars that live in the neighborhood, not a party bar. There is a decent amount of seating in this small bar, so finding a seat shouldn't be a problem. There a very cute 4 seater table on the side of the bar that feel like your in your own world. Happy hour is okay, a dollar off beers. I do like the draft selection here, it is alway changing. They have a few cheap can/bottle options like bud light. read more

A friend of mine was visiting-well he's a native, I'm the transplant and he suggested this place which was near where his family is and (fortunately) for me a ride on the G. 1) the place is right off the Ft. Hamilton stop. Literally, 2) a lot of beer selection, especially from some great Brooklyn/Queens locals. 3) a pretty damn good grilled cheese sandwich for a decent price. The only downside is that it's a little on the smaller side in the winter, it looks like they have a large outdoor patio section for the warmer months. read more

Beer looks great if we ever got to try it. Maybe it was a bad night but they were severely understaffed and the service was bad. Server dragged his feet and we sat for 30 min waiting for the beer we ordered after seating ourselves because nobody was seating customers.
