Food was good for the most part, only confusion was beef stroganoff with would've been a good beef ragu, very tender meat, just not stroganoff. Potato pancakes were bland and very very oily, paired with fried pork belly made it a very heavy dish. Kebab was good. Octopus in the salad was decent. Overall it's a good spot to try. I didn't get the feeling that she was happy to work there, and probably would have preferred for us not to bother her. Some of the dishes I saw on pictures were not available to be served, so be aware as you can't go by their pictures because apparently they serve these dishes only at night. The prices are on the expensive side. I took 4 points off because I love potatoes but not as french fries, all fried out and dripping in oil. The other way they do potatoes is they put milk plus sour cream into it so one can get more unnecessary cholesterol and engage in unhealthy lifestyle. We were told that: "They can't make potatoes with no oil, no butter, no milk, and no sour creme." Karaoke (1 out of 10): Karaoke is available if you come there at 10pm at night, so some people who might be resting or are sleeping during that time will not be able to enjoy it. I was visiting family in Brooklyn and was craving Russian food. Decided to order delivery on UberEats. The first restaurant that popped up on my search was Gallery Cafe. I'm happy it did. Delivery took a while, but it was worth the wait. Bortch was delicious ( wish there were more potatoes and little less cabbage). We also had potato pancakes - yummy, branzino with vegetables (for the price we paid we should have got little more veggies), but the fish was delicious so is beef stroganoff and chicken Julien.Too bad they don't deliver to my house, if they did I would be ordering all the time. read more

Finally we've got a chance to try this place out after I've heard so many good words about Gallery service and food.But it didn't meet my expectations:( My review is about food only. The service is great and waitresses were attentive and friendly. We had a Greek salad($7.95) ,that had too much vinegar in it...my mushroom soup had a lot of mushrooms but without mushroom taste( I know it sounds weird but..). My mom tried Bass fillet with spinach($ 7.95) and she said it was really good(!) ,we also had potato with mushrooms , the taste was also plain( no flavor ). Looks like they fried it separately not together. And chicken stroganoff tasted like it was cooked in 2 separate pans , that's why the chicken didn't have the mushroom flavor.... I am finally ready to admit it - I am obsessed I've visited Cafe Gallery on several occasions at this point - casual dinners and birthday celebrations. I've also ordered delivery and I've come to a conclusion, the place officially deserves the title of my new "go-to" spot!! Love the fact that I can rely on their consistency! Tried several things on the menu - avocado salad, herring, fried potatoes with mushrooms (one of my favorites I'll admit), tuna pizza (absolute crack!!!) grilled whole branzino, kebabs, beef stroganoff, and of course the ribeye (and the craving is still there!) - whether dining in or ordering out, the quality has not failed, always delicious and flavorful (I mean come on, if I'm still enjoying my steak leftovers the next day AND it doesn't taste like rubber?? I think I've got a winner!). They've also serve wonderfully delicious and freshly brewed tea, which you can enjoy with various dessert options - my favorite of corse - is the chocolate crepe with ricotta FYI - kitchen is open pretty late AND late delivery is an option I recommend you visit the place on weekends - karaoke starts at 11 and it's a seriously good time (till 4 am!!) Noticed that many seem to be "regulars" with some pretty good vocals, who won't snob a newbie. Often when coworkers and I get together every few months, we meet here. The service is always pretty slow and the food is always REALLY great. I have a few gripes with how they handled things on one recent evening, however. We had a reserved table for 4PM and were the only ones here. We ordered at 4:20 (I noted the time b/c I always do). We also ordered appetizers like potato pancakes. That shouldn't take more than 10 minutes to plate in an empty restaurant - unless they started growing the potatoes after we ordered. At 5:30 the place had filled up completely and appetizers/salads were appearing on other tables. When one member of our party spoke to the manager about the delay, we were told that we had placed our order at 5:00. If there's a mistake, the establishment really ought to own it rather than offer alternative facts. They made it up to us by offering a free dessert. In the end, the food arrived at 6:00 but it was okay because it became pretty lively and the restaurant turned into a lounge like every Russian restaurant does after 5PM. There were grandmas dancing with babies and a DJ who stood there looking angry and even a random lady who started singing on the mic. It must have been "all black" night because every single man and woman outside of our group was dressed head to toe in black. Honestly, it was pretty sweet and very Russian. Russian culture is great once you get past the surly faces and slow service. My gripe was that we had a very diverse group (think every continent) and the manager spoke solely in Russian to our one Russian member as if we weren't there. I found that pretty rude. Otherwise, the waitress apologized profusely and the food and entertainment were excellent. Jus ordered a delivery Salmon in pomegranate sauce with mashed potato. Give them a star for presentation but on the tasting note Salmon was too well done (maybe because it wasn't fresh) so it has lost all its flavors. And I haven't noticed any pomegranate sauce that it was suppose to come in. Also they didn't salt salmon or mashed potato the whole flavor situation was tasteless. And they wrapped my can of soda in a plastic bag. I don't know what was the purpose of it but being environmentally conscious goes a long way. Giving 2 stars for fooling customers! Ask them EXACT prices for daily specials!!! I saw the menu online and thought that it's not an expensive restaurant for a dinner after work on Tuesday night. I ordered salmon, the waitress asked what kind of side I'd like with it: NO SIDE DISH COMES WITH YOUR ORDER, and they'll charge for it additionally! My husband was in the mood for steak and they have Skirt steak for $16 on menu. However, when we asked for this steak, the waitress said that they have special rib eye steak which is a bit bigger and it's really good, but it's a bit more expensive. We asked how much more expensive- she just said "IT'S MORE EXPENSIVE, but bigger than skirt steak". Not very informative, but what to expect in Brooklyn in a restaurant with steak from menu for $16- $20/$23-$25 max! that's what my husband assumed... Surprise: $32!!! Just ridiculous: if the dish is 2 times more than the item on menu we originally wanted to order and DID ASK how much is the special-why not tell it straight?!?! Let's remember that it's not Manhattan steakhouse but Brooklyn in the middle of nowhere. Group of 4 people was sitting near us and 2 of them also ordered "rib eye special", wonder how they reacted when they saw the bill. But we left first. Café Gallery is a hidden gem in Brooklyn with a five star dining experience and i'll tell you why. When you first walk in, you are seated immediately with no reservation required. The décor of the place is very warm and inviting, with beautiful new polished floors and wooden tables, many paintings and murals on the wall that resemble the setup of an art gallery, and very comfortable leather seats all across the wall, and the AC blasting during the heat wave is a big plus; if your cold you can just warm yourself up with a fully stocked bar with top shelf items from ketel one, Russian standard or cheaper options like Smirnoff. The place is family friendly and is great for special occasions, there is no private room for events but they can make large tables for up to 20 people, you can rent out the whole place if you really wanted to. The menu has a lot of great options to choose from, to salads, soups, cold appetizers like meat or fish plates, or hot appetizers with dough pastries filled with meat and potatoes with mushrooms . There is also filets of fish, beef and chicken dishes too and you can choose a side , some sides like rice or fries have a charge of three bucks, while other sides like mashed potatoes are actually free. The greek salad with cheese and basturma was a great salad to start with , it was large and filling and very healthy, and If you want to add salt for your own preference it works out. My parents ordered a spicy soup filled with sausauge , capers and veggies, it had a very nice kick to it and it was extremely filling, you can have it with bread or sour cream. There was a hot appetizer that was a thin dough pastry filled with grounded meat and spices, it wasn't too oily and it was very filling, the meat was nicely seasoned. My favorite hot appetizer had to be the chopped potatoes with oil, garlic and mushrooms, it was crispy and very flavorful and large enough to share for 3-4 people. My father ordered chopped grounded beef with spices, peppers and a side dish of grechka , the meat was juicy and the pepper was a nice touch, and the side dish had butter in it so it gave great flavor as well. My sister had a kids order of potatoes with chicken shish kebabs, the pieces were huge and juicy with good seasoning, they don't have a kids menu so this is the best they can do. Of course I had to save the best for last, the skirt steak with teriyaki sauce for only 13 dollars with a side of mashed potatoes free of charge. Oh my god, I am still drooling over this dish several days later. The steak was very good quality, it wasn't too soft or to tender, it was juicy, the sauce glazed on top had so much flavor and kick to it, and the mashed potatoes were creamy and not too salty and very filling. I literally licked the plate clean. For four people, the bill came out to 105 dollars, for the ambiance, excellent quick service, clean and classy place and a happy stomach, I really cant complain! read more

For example, the price of branzino on their website is $19.95 and they charged us $29.95. I don't write about Russian restaurants because I grew up practically living in them and they're all the same. I was very pleasantly surprised and shocked really, how much we all loved this place. The staff was so friendly, unlike so many spots allover Brooklyn where they're just trying to make a dollar and recycle Russian birthday parties all week. The quality of the food was most important and it most certainly raised the bar for similar spots. From the appetizers to entrees and dessert, this place was a 10. I signed up to sing 3 songs (per table) and he wouldn't let me sing them because they were "too sad". What?! Where are there signs that you can't sing slow songs anywhere?? Anyway, the new place is great :) Their food is fresh, flavorful, well presented, and authentic. I really love their shishkabobs and beef stroganoff. With all the Russian restaurants in this area, I was very surprised by how much I loved this place and how they found some uniqueness amongst it all. The interior is casual but very nice, and ample amount of seating. The service here was amazing, with genuinely friendly staff,and very attentive. Very unprofessional, I made a reservation for a large educational school trip and the OWNER stated because I did not leave a deposit they canceled my reservation to accommodate a private event! Meanwhile when I spoke with the Host she never informed me of any deposit that needed to be made. They never called to confirm me of my reservation or to even get a deposit for that matter. The owner calls me the day before my event to tell me that the reservation was canceled for another group. This trip was to introduce young students to Russian cuisine, we are a local public school within a block away from the restaurant and they did this sooooo unprofessional. Decided to give this place another try and ordered the potato pancakes and tuna pizza for delivery. First of all delivery came about 30 min after the stated time. The potato pancakes were SO incredibly oily. I ate two and couldn't stomach anymore and gave the rest to my coworker. I was excited to eat the tuna pizza as I've had it before and it was incredible. Today it was inedible because of how disgustingly salty it was. I couldn't taste anything but the saltiness. I put it in the fridge with a note saying anyone can have it cause I know I'm not eating it and after spending $25 on food that I couldn't even eat, I'm hoping someone in the office likes salt so it doesn't end up in the garbage. Heard about this place, and decided to take my Mom there for brunch. The place is very nicely decorated, clean, elegant and cosy, and the noise level is perfect. Made reservations, arrived on time and had to wait until the manager or someone finished talking with the owner. So I just stood there for about 5 minutes, seen, but completely ignored. No one apologized for making me wait, but after a waitress arrived, service was decent. The food was surprisingly good - the tuna tartar, salads, hot pastry with meat - amazing. The chicken crepes were a little heavy on the cream, and the tiramisu, on the dry side. Since then, I was there with friends - and everything, with the exception of pork kebab was delicious. Out of Russian eateries of Brooklyn, this one holds the top spot for me. Service was attentive, but not overly intrusive, the food was fresh and the place was clean. Very little keeps it from the fourth star. 1) fix the ceiling in the bathroom, one tile is sagging and ruins the clean look. 2) the beef stroganoff was way too sour. Clearly it was just beef tongue in sour cream and the sauce was not cooked through. Keep up the good work, I will be back. read more

The good: Food is fresh. Decor is updated and simple. "Gallery cafe" cake is delicious. Quick, friendly waiter service. The bad: Portions are on the small side. It gets EXTREMELY loud. There were two banquets going on when we there and at times the noise level was ridiculous. I felt like the staff should have asked the people to quiet down just a bit, in respect to other patrons at the restaurant. They didn't and this was enough to ruin the entire dining experience. I chose this restaurant because it looked quaint and intimate and I was so disappointed. While the servers were friendly it would have been nice to see the manager smile at least once. Overall, while the food is good, I feel that the portions should be bigger. The gallery cafe cake was almost good enough to salvage the entire experience though. If I decide to come back it will only be to take my order to go, which is such a shame because the restaurant has such promise to be a nice, quiet place. Not sure if it's technically Coney Island or Sheepshead Bay, I'll throw it under SHB. I'm usually a bit skeptical of eating at Russian restaurants, but this is definitely a favorite place of mine in the neighborhood since moving to Sheepshead Bay and dating my boyfriend. Whenever I've eaten in the restaurant, the staff is very helpful, friendly, and prompt. The wait staff usually helps in making great suggestions. The inside of this restaurant is immaculately clean and the paintings and pictures on the walls look like a gallery. The AC is usually BLASTING and I'm always cold when eating here, so bring a sweater. Most times we will order take out from here because it is convenient. The lamb kebob here is excellent and I highly recommend it. A very generous portion and is served with mashed potatoes. The chicken kebob is OK, there is something a bit off about it, almost a fake taste to it. There is some kind of hot appetizer that is pretty much a flat pastry filled with meat, not sure of the translation but when I tried it here I loved it! The mashed potatoes that this place makes are fresh and off the hook, a favorite of mine. I'm not a huge fan of salads, but Cafe Gallery has my favorite salad ever. I LOVE the way they make a Greek Salad, I order one every time I get food from here, it's amazing. The first time I tried compote was here and it was amazing, a very fruity and strong flavored drink. I'm deducting a star because I'm very nervous to order from here or go here without bringing someone who speaks Russian. I've tried to order once and the person answering the phone only spoke Russian and hung up when I didn't respond in Russian, only in English.
