Terrible experience. The service was awful and the food was even worse. Definitely not coming back.

I'll begin with what irritated me first man's why I will not give this place a third chance . Nobody cares for your business expense fees. You as 10%gratuity. Okay cool. I was going to give more than that. But you tax on4 % more precent for your expenses fees . That is ridiculous especially when you give a tongue salad without or barely any tongue , then give the wrong plov after we were waiting hungry . Service wasn't but comparing their food and Omar khayam can't compare. And Omar gives bigger portions and bigger size sashliki , way more tongue in salads. My family has been coming here on and off for over a decade. All of the spots we grew up going to have closed but Oasis has remained. This has been a place we consistently come together as a family. My parents and my new family came together and had a great time! The food is always great and the man who I assume is the owner checked in on us during and after. Ordered takeout through UberEats, food was prepared & delivered very fast, well packaged and delicious. Veggies in the salad and feta cheese appetizer were so crispy and fresh like it was just picked from some farm and tasted amazing not rubbery like most vegetables tend to taste these days. Pilaf (plov) Baku style was perfectly cooked, full of unique flavor, not greasy, portion had more rice to meat ratio but still it was big enough to share. Lamb was a bit too tough for my personal preference but I really liked the overall taste and combination of aromatic spices, lamb, dried fruits and chestnuts with scrumptious rice so was willing to overlook the slight chewiness of the meat. In conclusion, we really enjoyed everything and looking forward to trying more dishes from the Oasis Cafe and definitely recommend this place to everyone read more

More like 3.5 starts. It's hard to give Oasis more than that when Nargis is right across the street and 100x better. Don't get me wrong, Oasis is good too...but not like Nargis. Anyway, the food is fresh and good for the most part, I just think they OD on the mayo in a lot of the dishes so skip the mayo-based salads and order the non-fat drenched ones because those are delicious. The meats are great too, skip the fish. For some reason they serve Uzbek manty with sour cream instead of the red sauce, not sure why but it's not supposed to come that way! Sigh. Wow! This place is really, really good. We had a banquet-style feast tonight and everything was super delicious, most especially those richly dense kabobs and buttery lamb kutab. It's cute and unassuming on the inside, not the most decorated of places but good for a conversation as it's not very noisy. As is typical of an Eastern European feast, you can get full just from the appetizers, but the quality and flavors at Oasis make it easy to forget about that and keep going!! This place used to be AMAZING. The food is still good, but it's certainly gone downhill. I ordered lunch today-an order of manti, 1order of veal liver shish kebab, and 1 compot. Food arrived quickly via Uber Eats, but the manti looked like they were purchased from Tashkent supermarket across the street. Same shape, thickness of dough (which should be very thin and was previously), and although it tasted good, it wasn't the manti they used to serve, and also they didn't provide sour cream or red sauce, or utensils! The liver kebab was pretty good as well, but was overly seasoned and much saltier than before, and again, no red sauce! Also, the portion for the price is a joke. The compot was delicious as always, but the container wasn't filled to the top and it was about 5 sips worth of compot which I had to drink very sparingly so it would last through my meal. I would say - the worst restaurant in Brooklyn. I'm surprised how that restaurant has such a big rating, when it should be 1/5. Prices were normal to compare other Brooklyn restaurants. Food looked nice but tasted digusting, especially side salad. Also the waitor was extremely rude, who started screaming, because he did not like his tip. We're so happy we found this fantastic Russian place! From the outside it's kinda easy to miss, sort of off the beaten trail away from most of the other Russian places in Brighton Beach and kinda almost looks dark and closed from outside like a secret speakeasy, but it was definitely open maybe just had window curtains. And like a lot of Russian places, it sort of turns into a club after a certain hour - music videos playing on the TV's and they dim the lights. Anyway, the food was incredible, everything we tried was great. We had fantastic lamb ribs. They have this specialty category on the menu that has most of the greatest things I guess takes longer to cook that you are supposed to preorder. We tried this great casserole from there with all these innards like kidney, liver, heart... They had these amazing kutab pastry things with filled with lamb or spinach. Even the tomato & onion salad was awesome with a great sauce and jalapenos for a kick. And this place has very reasonable prices too. This is one of our new favorites now and we'll definitely be back! read more

What a little gem this place is! Celebrated both my and my sons birthday here and was so pleased with everything. Food was really good, everything was fresh. My guests commented on how tasty it is. Every course kept coming out at the perfect timing. At no point was anyone waiting or complaining what's next. The service was on point. The place was packed and the waiters never seemed overwhelmed. Anything we needed they were available and ready to please. They really knew what they were doing and nothing was an issue for them. They did it all and with a smile. I forgot candles and they told me not to worry they will take care of it. This was a pleasant experience with Russian- Central Asian food. I was craving Russian food; Juliane in particular and decided to give Oasis a try! I was the only non Russian speaking customer as far as I can tell; yet I was very very impressed by the staff and their hospitality, our host was extremely polite and nice; I tried a potato lulya kebob which was amazing, got Juliane, avocado salad and other appetizer items, all where phenomenal. I made a mistake ordering chicken stake which was just okay in comparison to the fresh and tasty appetizers; the stake was more of a frozen cutlet; did not measure up to the rest of the food. This is a BYOB place with terrific food and excellent service. The prices are great and the decoration is awesome. Great and still affordable toothsome fare, and wonderful, warm and courteous service. We have not dined in since COVID started but also because we left Brooklyn in 2009, however, we pick up several times and there has never been a mistake with any of our pretty large orders, the food is always piping hot, and the people who take our orders over the phone and then pack it and hand to us inside are so nice, holding doors on my way out, even bringing stuff to the car. While on the outside this place does not look like anything special, the food here was perfect all around and turned out to be a very worthwhile Russian spot to hit up. The interior is pretty standard and casual, mix between Russian Restaurant and Russian Cafeteria. The staff here is great, very attentive and nice. We got banquette style, as is the usual protocol for larger Russian gathering. All the food was super fresh, the potatoes with mushrooms were absolutely perfect, the salmon was very fresh and the shish kebab and meats were all delicious and perfectly seasoned and cooked. Three words to describe this place... Food poisoning sucks! (Apologies to Val S.) My experience while I was there was good. Seated promptly (Nargis had a 40 minute wait), the food didn't take long, it was hot and tasty, the servers were nice and attentive. I asked for water to drink and got charged $2.50 for a little bottle of Poland Spring instead of most places' free water, and got the 10% "service fee" another review mentioned, both apparently common in Russia, so I accordingly left a smaller tip than I'd normally give (which is high for American standards, and very high for western European standards & I assume Russian standards too). My experience after I left there took a clear turn for the worse. About 30-45 minutes after eating, I felt a sharp pain in my gut, but it didn't last long, so I didn't think much of it. Another hour after that, I was speeding home to get to my bathroom as quick as possible, and spent a good deal of time there in the day that followed. I had the manti, ground lamb kebab, and rice, with sour cream & some tomato-based sauce. Nothing seemed suspect at the time, but it sure did later. Were it not for the food poisoning, I'd give them 4*. I hate to give them such a low rating since things started off so well, but sorry, food poisoning automatically bottoms it out. read more

We have been going here for many years. While, the place tends to get loud, the food was always good. Many family informal gatherings were held here due to good food quality and reasonable prices. We were friendly with the owners, especially the one that unfortunately passed away. Last winter/ early Spring, before Covid, we were having a nice family lunch where a party of two sisters and their babies together with their families ruined the lunch by changing their child's dirty diaper in the middle of the restaurant right next to us. You would think this can't ruin your lunch? Think again :). When we mentioned something nicely we got verbally attacked by one of them stating that it's a child. One of the sisters who seems to have had attitude issue since she stepped in the door proclaimed that its a child. Well, exactly it's her child, and I should not be seeing or smelling her child's successful #2 while I'm eating a shishkebob. There is space to do this, and it's not right next to my table. I never understood this entitle attitude. She was not breastfeeding, which I think she is entitled to do anywhere she wants, but here she is changing a dirty stinky diaper, and while I chewed on my food there were napkins filled with feces going about their business. They were screaming and cursing, and the worst part the waiters and the owner did nothing. This was honestly after we simple asked for them to move to the side, very nicely. When her husband returned she tried to get him to do something, but he was just sitting there with his hands on his head as it was obvious that her angry and entitled attitude did not cause trouble the first time and he knew she was to blame. Ever since that ordeal we stopped going there because obviously there is no appreciation for costumers or health code here. This could have ended really bad if some of the men at that table were as crazy as she was, and the owner just looked and left without calming the situation. Her father apologized to us and admitted that they were wrong. He also, said she had issues,, but that us not our issue. So, we ordered out for some time. However, unfortunately the food quality started to go down as well. There are plenty of similar spots around the area, and unfortunately this place went down since last year. If this didn't happen perhaps we would still be ordering from here, but this incident made us explore the area more and find much more costumer friendly spots with delicious food. I still can't believe that the owner did not say something and asked people to calm down. This really turned us away from here. It was with some trepidation that I visited this restaurant, which had been suggested by my brother-in-law, last night. The Avenue X location is the far side of Brooklyn from my home, there were NO reviews that I could find, and there were many unfamiliar items on the online menu I located for this Uzbek/Central Asian restaurant, which appears with Russian before English--things like "manta" and "plov". With the aid of Google I discovered that the former is a kind of lamb dumpling and the latter is the Uzbek national lamb stew. I ordered both and they were really good. Others in my party ordered the feta cheese cigars , spinach kutab , and grilled eggplant appetizers and the striped bass and lamb kabob entrees. these were accompanied by excellent home made fruit punch. We ended the meal with Uzbek tea for my companions and Turkish coffee for me. Service was quite good and friendly (something that also concerned me because a Bukaran restaurant I visited in Queens some time ago had service verging on hostile). I intend to return to this place and bring friends looking for something exotic. read more

This is a hidden gem boys and girls. A clear 5 stars in terms of the quality and taste of the food, the relatively low prices and the good waiter service. I had here the lox/tomatoes/mozzarella appetizer (wow amazing), the shurpa soup (quite good, but there are better, they can use some more cilantro), the plov (amazing), and several other items. Very satisfied with most things. People say stick with meat there, that their fish is not the best, but haven't tried it myself so cant comment. Their chocolate mousse desert is also delicious, but I'm not a sweets person... Another negative is that they charge you a mandatory 10% service charge, but that doesn't cover tips for the waiters. This is a phenomena across all Russian restaurants which I hate. But supposedly its because the waiters and Russian restaurants dont get paid a salary and only make money based on the extra tip you put down. Is that legal? read more

This place is a hidden gem of a restaurant. I have been here several times, for birthday celebrations, for a casual weekday meal and for downtime with my husband. It is central Asian cuisine: Shashlik, plov, manti, samsa, warm lavash, eggplant salad etc. Their plov is delicious! It's fluffy and flavorful with chunks of lamb. The shashlik is juicy and moist and their lamb shashlik is made proper: skewered with fat to keep optimal flavor! They also have Russian/Soviet offerings: fried potatoes with dill and garlic, beet salad, borsch, other salads along with the usual franco-inspired dishes most Russians are used to like fish in cream sauce and julienne(sautéed mushrooms in cream sauce baked to delicious gooey perfection under cheese) The service is perfect! For so many years the Russian restaurant scene was filled with obnoxious waiters but this place has great service. Sometimes they are a bit disorganized, but it seems they are often understaffed. I can't take away a star for a waiter not being able to service two banquets and several parties thoroughly. They try though, those guys run around non stop, and do try and make everyone happy. Lastly it is BYOB. **Also I don't know what the other reviewers are saying about food poisoning. The food, i.e lamb and the plov is fatty(naturally) and spiced with heavy central Asian spices that a stomach not used to some of these spices and fats can't handle.
