    Borscht soup
    Mandy K.

Everything we had was great and felt like homemade cooking. We had the hot borscht soup (good pumpernickel bread that comes with it), potato pancakes, Moscow style baked Pelmeni (chicken/mushroom), and potato vereniki. All was great just definitely heavy food so had to get a green salad too. The restaurant is inside an aged Russian spa and the decor has a very traditional vibe. Felt like stepping into a time machine or travelled to old Russian time and hard to believe it's the financial district.

Lets start with the delivery -I wrote three separate times the phone number to call/tex in the delivery instructions and yet no one called or texted me to let me know where my order was. Food - just awful, there was zero flavor in the stuffed cabbage. And it was covered in tomato paste, Ive made better. Not worth the price of 18$ -the pelemenie was only about 12 and there was no sauce, no utensils no dill. Overall this will be a pass for me, service was awful and the food did not taste like traditional Russian food.

The entrance was a little confusing as we had to walk though the spa and down and up several steps. You get to look down on the spa on the way in and see folks lounging around as well as feel the steam rising. It made me nostalgic for an onsen. We sat in a cafeteria-style room with several tables. We were the only customers. The waiter brought menus and gave us a few minutes to order. He was really helpful by making suggestions based on our questions. We went with the Greek salad, beef tongue, Kiev style pelmeni, and lamb skewers. The tongue came first which was very tender and was even better with the grated horseradish. We also ordered beer to accompany the meal which were big (16oz?). I really enjoyed the Greek salad, especially the basturma - little strips of deliciousness. The Kiev pelmeni was baked with dumplings, mushroom and cheese/cream on top. It was good but some parts of the dumpling were hard and needed to be rolled around in the sauce to soften. The lamb was the only dish we didn't love. It was a bit tough and didn't have much seasoning. Aside from the lamb, it was a solid meal.

small restaurant, good Russian food. Service was good, they serve lunch specials and food a la cart. There are spa services and pools available in the building.

I recently ordered from Russian Samovar through Uber Eats Pozharsky cutlet with mashed potatoes,…read moretwo borschts, black bread, and Olivier salad. The main issue I experienced was with the delivery process rather than the food itself. I was carefully tracking my order through the Uber Eats app and stepped away briefly, assuming no driver had yet picked up the order. When I returned, the delivery window was already ending. After calling the restaurant, I learned somewhat confusingly that they do not directly work with Uber Eats drivers and instead use a separate delivery service. Unfortunately, this was not clearly communicated through the Uber Eats platform. I later discovered missed calls and notifications from a third-party delivery service while I was away, which I hadn't seen because all my attention was on the Uber Eats tracking system. As a result, I received the order noticeably later and expected the food to arrive cold. To my surprise the borscht was still hot and absolutely excellent. Rich flavor, very comforting, and clearly made with care. While meat is not included by default (it can be added for an extra $5), the soup itself was outstanding. The black bread was nicely toasted, the mashed potatoes tasted homemade exactly what you hope for with a classic cutlet dish. The Pozharsky cutlet had a great crispy exterior while remaining juicy and well-seasoned inside. The Olivier salad was also excellent. A couple of details were missing: the mushroom gravy mentioned in the description was not included, and utensils requested in the order were forgotten. Kitchen / Food: Delivery experience: (minus one star for missing utensils) Ordering system clarity: Customer communication: Overall, I'm giving this place 4 stars because the food quality truly stands out. The kitchen clearly knows what it's doing, and the flavors were authentic and satisfying. There is room for improvement in communication and delivery coordination, but I would absolutely order again. Thank you to the chefs for such delicious food.

For a solo diner, they seated me right next to the piano, where the pianist and guitarist were playing lively music. Food was brought out quickly. The Borscht was hot and tasty! Perfect for a snowy night in New York. I loved this. Between the Pelmeni or Vareniki, I chose pelmeni because it has meat. I was pleasantly surprised by the quantity of the dumplings. Russian Black Bread was simple, nothing remarkable. For dessert, I chose the Medovik, the Ukrainian layered honey cake. This was soft and sweet, and a far better medovik than my first time trying it at another Russian restaurant nearby. Maybe I because came during a dinner rush (I came in around 6pm), but it was hard to get service's attention when I needed water or when I was done eating. When I did catch one of the waiters' attention, he acted like he was kind of annoyed. And while my waitress was nice, there were several times I tried to get her attention, and she kept walking past me. It was really awkward, especially when I wanted to pay and was ready to hurry out of there.

The food was beautifully presented, flavorful, and worthy of the restaurant's iconic reputation. What stood out most to me was the ambiance. It's the kind of place where conversation slows down, memories are created, and the entire experience feels elevated beyond dining alone. Definitely a must-visit for anyone looking for a classic New York dining experience with character, sophistication, and history woven into every detail. The waiter claimed that the reason our orders were coming out slow, even the caviar for one of our drinks, was that the only service station that wasn't overrun was the dessert station. The food is overpriced and the main draw is for the ambience and decor which is elaborate and decadent. The second floor has a tree with lit colored glass eggs and a spinning bear aquarium reminiscent of a Russian dancing bear. I only ordered the honey cake because we had already eaten and were visiting friends. It was moist and delicious, but certainly not enough to make me return. Others in my group spent $33 for a handful of Pelmeni dumpling in a sauce. Although they were deemed delicious, seems overly expensive for beef, for sour cream, mushrooms, and peas. The espresso martini was also deemed one of the best they've had. The French onion soup was vinegary and not good - I can after to the vinegary nature because I could smell it several seats away.

Now, it's banks, cellular, provider, stores urgent care, a 7-11, even a Popeyes freaking fried chicken. Oh, and the Starbucks is still there. After walking out of a very bad experience at imereti Georgian cafe down the street (see separate review) I found this place. Boy, am I glad I did. I was seated in the front. The restaurant was gorgeous. ! I could hear a beautiful voice singing, Eastern European songs in the back of the restaurant and at one point,, he switched to Elvis's "I can't help falling in love with you" in English. That made me a little emotional, because that was my late partner's and my song... Anyway, I decided to go for the crêpes with red caviar (salmon roe), and the Ukrainian borscht. Bread and butter is brought to my table. The white bread was OK, but the brown bread had a deep rich flavor. The crêpes come first, and they were amazing. The crêpes were very warm, soft and delicious. I loved the "red caviar". A little bit salty, more briny than fishy, and a wonderful explosion of flavor when the eggs "pop." in the mouth. I was very happy. Next came the borscht. It had cabbage, beets, potatoes, and either beef or pork. I'm not sure which one. The meat , beets and potatoes was very tender, and the soup was delicious and not too rich. A very satisfying flavor., the beets gave it a little bit of an earthy flavor. The sour cream that came with it, just added a creamy richness to it without overtaking the flavor of the borscht. 1000% a home run. Dinner wasn't cheap. Two dishes, two iced teas (I found out they charge for refills), and tax, and it came out to about $48 before tip, .I didn't care. I don't mind paying extra if the food is that good, and this food was absolutely beyond awesome. I would be glad to come back and try other items on the menu. Thank you!

The service was quick, food came out quick and dishes were cleared quick too! We tried a variety of kebabs and a mushroom cheburechki. The mushroom cheburechki was my favorite thing this evening but everything else was pretty good too! Portions were big and prices were reasonable. My takes on each dish: 1) cheburechnaya salad - light but flavorful, good to pick on with your meal. I like the avocado on top. Small portion is good enough for 2. 2) thin cut fries - like shoestring, really unique. Half portion is good enough for 2. 3) mushroom cheburechki - crispy but juicy, delicious with sauce. Definitely try this! 4) veal liver kebab: good when hot but I think one or two bite is enough because liver taste is strong.. if you like liver definitely get it, otherwise can skip. 5) lamb kebab: good, juicy. Definitely eat while hot, can be tough while cooler. A nice basic taste, nothing too weird. 6) sweetbread kebab: not my favorite it tastes a bit too fatty without justifying the fat. 7) lulya kebab: one of my favorites. It's a ground meat kebab and it's very juicy. Definitely get it! 8) beef skirt kebab: maybe my favorite one. It tastes like a juicy steak bite. 9) no fat lamb ribs: second favorite. The seasoning is good. A bit gamier than the basic lamb kebab. Overall we enjoyed the meal and will be back to try some other items! The only gripe is that the meat is a bit rare and I would not like to eat organ meat with some blood in it. My stomach was not used to it even the next day. Not sick but not feeling my normal self. I suggest them cook the organ meats more well-done next time for food safety.
