    Veal Liver

First time trying this place, been meaning to come for the last 15 years lol! We were served by Marek and she was very nice with the recommendations. The service was quick, food came out quick and dishes were cleared quick too! We tried a variety of kebabs and a mushroom cheburechki. The mushroom cheburechki was my favorite thing this evening but everything else was pretty good too! Portions were big and prices were reasonable. My takes on each dish: 1) cheburechnaya salad - light but flavorful, good to pick on with your meal. I like the avocado on top. Small portion is good enough for 2. 2) thin cut fries - like shoestring, really unique. Half portion is good enough for 2. 3) mushroom cheburechki - crispy but juicy, delicious with sauce. Definitely try this! 4) veal liver kebab: good when hot but I think one or two bite is enough because liver taste is strong.. if you like liver definitely get it, otherwise can skip. 5) lamb kebab: good, juicy. Definitely eat while hot, can be tough while cooler. A nice basic taste, nothing too weird. 6) sweetbread kebab: not my favorite it tastes a bit too fatty without justifying the fat. 7) lulya kebab: one of my favorites. It's a ground meat kebab and it's very juicy. Definitely get it! 8) beef skirt kebab: maybe my favorite one. It tastes like a juicy steak bite. 9) no fat lamb ribs: second favorite. The seasoning is good. A bit gamier than the basic lamb kebab. Overall we enjoyed the meal and will be back to try some other items! The only gripe is that the meat is a bit rare and I would not like to eat organ meat with some blood in it. My stomach was not used to it even the next day. Not sick but not feeling my normal self. I suggest them cook the organ meats more well-done next time for food safety.

Outside, looking inside, the windows are tinted, so it looks like it is empty. However, if you look closely, there are tables and people inside. It's fairly large inside. I found this place through Yelp and Google maps. I was very curious as to the food they were serving. We ordered the Chebureki Special, which are deep friend turnovers with a filling inside of it. They are widely known in Eastern Europe. This was my first time having it, and I enjoyed it along with the sauce. We got the piloff, too, which was a huge portion of rice that has vegetables and meat chopped up and mixed, which would be enough for three or four people. Last but not least, two skewers were ordered too, which were the lamb ribs and quail. They really didn't skimp on the portion size, and it was great when they brought out sriracha as the hot sauce. Overall, besides the slow service in the beginning, everything else was great.

I love this place! The rice pilaf is spectacular! The meats are cooked to perfection. Honestly, all the food is so good. The price is reasonable as well. However, the service is not stellar. I don't mind it, but you're coming to an old-school kind of restaurant, so be aware that the staff just takes your order and leaves. They also add a tip to your receipt, so be aware of that. But the food is definitely worth it!

There are tinted windows but upon a closer look - they are open! We decided to check out this place for lunch and I'm glad we did. Their fried "dumplings" are delicious with a great side sauce - sort of like salsa. We also tried a lamb and veggie grilled skewer. Very affordable and great lunch spot.

Came here with my fiancé on the way home from running an errand because this has been on my list for a while! Around 5pm on a Monday night, the place was pretty empty but we had really good service! Ordered the deep fried cow's brain, sweet bread, salad and soup. It was my first time having cow's brain and uh.. I think it tastes a bit like oyster?? Definitely interesting but also not knocking it out of the park if I had to try it again. Wasn't bad! Sweetbread... my fiancé ordered this and I didn't really know what I was until I got it. Wasn't bad either!! Actually one of my fav. Salad - bigger portion than we thought but we loved every single bite. Lamb dumplings - I'm not the biggest fan of lamb at ALL but this was actually good!! Doesn't have the gamey texture that I hate .. quite subtle. Overall, great Uzbek restaurant - super authentic and is a must try!!

The house salad-- an excellent blend of leafy greens, peppers, tomatoes, onions, avocado, olives and asparagus!

I don't know much about Uzbek food, but this place is one of my family's favorite restaurants in the city overall. Delicious salads, nice waitstaff and affordable prices. The sweetbreads kebab is one of our favorites-- succulent and tender, the chebureki is amazing-- meaty and soupy on the inside with a crispy flakey crust, the house salad is always a winner, and I'm a huge fan of the pelmeni soup and manti's. Strongly recommend!

Delicious food at reasonable prices. Great selection of Russian and Uzbeki cuisine. I usually come here for lunch, the interior is a bit old school and not enough to use this place for dinner. Portions are big and you can get Pilaf that will feed 4ppl for $15. Most of the time I end up taking food to go as it's so much to eat. Recommend for lunch for sure.

Delicious place. I was continuously surprised at this place. The service is pretty good and the ambiance is pretty clean and comforting. Even if it's a first try at the type of cuisine definitely try this place. Great portions and great food. Couldn't be any better than that.

Underdo it and it's inedible, overdo it the same, wrong oil or too much oil and your customers will run screaming for the hills. I ordered plov and salad, but I will need to return to try the tandoor bread, as many people came in just to purchase a loaf while I was in there and it seems to be their most popular offering. I've been to an Uzbek restaurant before, but there is some nuance to this one as it is a Bukharian restaurant, representing the cuisine of a population of Jewish Uzbeks who have settled in a high concentration here in this part of Rego Park. The salad was well seasoned and refreshing. Somehow the tomatoes were ripe and juicy even though it is the middle of the winter. It was the perfect complement to the plov. The plov was masterfully done. Each grain of rice was perfectly oiled and the sweetness from the carrots was well complimented by the aromatic cumin infused throughout the dish. It's studded with chickpeas which impart an additional richness. The meat was tender and well cooked. The soft, roasted whole garlic cloves were my favorite part of the dish. I paid $34 for the plov, which could have served two, the salad and a bottle of water, which feels reasonable.

The beef noodle soup was especially memorable, featuring tender beef, fresh cilantro, and thin round noodles in a comforting, flavorful broth. We were a group of four and were seated at a large round table, which was perfect for sharing. We started with black tea, then ordered two salads to begin: the cabbage salad and the fresh salad (both in large sizes, which were well-portioned for our group). The cabbage salad was lightly pickled and very flavorful with oil, while the fresh salad was simpler but crisp and refreshing. For mains, we ordered two Lagman soups (large sizes, which were very filling and enough for leftovers), the Sherpa soup, one Samsa meat pie served with a red tomato sauce/broth, garlic fries, fried dumplings, and chicken and lamb skewers (two of each). Everything was flavorful, fresh, and came out quickly. Before tax and service fee, the total was under $100, which felt like excellent value for the amount and quality of food. There are many other options in the area, but I have always come enjoyed this place, and now I treasure it more than ever before. The decor is a bit loud and gaudy for me personally. I always preferred the interior design of Taste of Samarkand or Art of Grill, but I'm okay with Stix's decor because it's bright and clean. More importantly, I love the food at this place. Every time I come here, it's absolutely fantastic. They shine at grilling skewers, so I'll start with that. You really can't go wrong, but I would always get the lamb, lamb ribs, beef, baby chicken, chicken w/ bones, and sea bass. The lola kebab and the chicken lola kebab are not bad, but definitely better at Art of Grill. For the more adventurous, try the veal sweet bread, veal liver, and lamb fat. The only kebabs I am not a big fan of here are the quail. As for appetizers, you have to get their flavorful Uzbek mantu. However, crispy cheburek and flaky samsa are both excellent too. Herring Garnish is very tasty as well. Moving onto salads, I typically order the Humus and Babaganush for dipping with the Tandoori Bread. Korean Carrot is also a nice starter. If you are fond of soup, then I highly recommend Osh-Potche. Lastly, Asian Pilaf is a nice way to end the meal when dining at an Uzbek restaurant, though I think their version is average. When all is said and done, every meal is always amazing. The cost of the meal is always reasonable. And a good time is always had by all every time.
