We had the Israeli salad, bread, babaganush, and four skewers (not fatty lamb ribs, salmon, lalya, and chicken wings). We enjoyed everything except the lalya- never had it before. First time trying this place, been meaning to come for the last 15 years lol! We were served by Marek and she was very nice with the recommendations. The service was quick, food came out quick and dishes were cleared quick too! We tried a variety of kebabs and a mushroom cheburechki. The mushroom cheburechki was my favorite thing this evening but everything else was pretty good too! Portions were big and prices were reasonable. My takes on each dish: 1) cheburechnaya salad - light but flavorful, good to pick on with your meal. I like the avocado on top. Small portion is good enough for 2. 2) thin cut fries - like shoestring, really unique. Half portion is good enough for 2. 3) mushroom cheburechki - crispy but juicy, delicious with sauce. Definitely try this! 4) veal liver kebab: good when hot but I think one or two bite is enough because liver taste is strong.. if you like liver definitely get it, otherwise can skip. 5) lamb kebab: good, juicy. Definitely eat while hot, can be tough while cooler. A nice basic taste, nothing too weird. 6) sweetbread kebab: not my favorite it tastes a bit too fatty without justifying the fat. 7) lulya kebab: one of my favorites. It's a ground meat kebab and it's very juicy. Definitely get it! 8) beef skirt kebab: maybe my favorite one. It tastes like a juicy steak bite. 9) no fat lamb ribs: second favorite. The seasoning is good. A bit gamier than the basic lamb kebab. Overall we enjoyed the meal and will be back to try some other items! The only gripe is that the meat is a bit rare and I would not like to eat organ meat with some blood in it. My stomach was not used to it even the next day. Not sick but not feeling my normal self. I suggest them cook the organ meats more well-done next time for food safety. read more

Outside, looking inside, the windows are tinted, so it looks like it is empty. However, if you look closely, there are tables and people inside. It's fairly large inside. I found this place through Yelp and Google maps. I was very curious as to the food they were serving. We ordered the Chebureki Special, which are deep friend turnovers with a filling inside of it. They are widely known in Eastern Europe. This was my first time having it, and I enjoyed it along with the sauce. We got the piloff, too, which was a huge portion of rice that has vegetables and meat chopped up and mixed, which would be enough for three or four people. Last but not least, two skewers were ordered too, which were the lamb ribs and quail. They really didn't skimp on the portion size, and it was great when they brought out sriracha as the hot sauce. I love this place! The rice pilaf is spectacular! The meats are cooked to perfection. Honestly, all the food is so good. The price is reasonable as well. However, the service is not stellar. I don't mind it, but you're coming to an old-school kind of restaurant, so be aware that the staff just takes your order and leaves. They also add a tip to your receipt, so be aware of that. There are tinted windows but upon a closer look - they are open! We decided to check out this place for lunch and I'm glad we did. Their fried "dumplings" are delicious with a great side sauce - sort of like salsa. We also tried a lamb and veggie grilled skewer. Very affordable and great lunch spot. read more

Came here with my fiancé on the way home from running an errand because this has been on my list for a while! Around 5pm on a Monday night, the place was pretty empty but we had really good service! Ordered the deep fried cow's brain, sweet bread, salad and soup. It was my first time having cow's brain and uh.. I think it tastes a bit like oyster?? Definitely interesting but also not knocking it out of the park if I had to try it again. Wasn't bad! Sweetbread... my fiancé ordered this and I didn't really know what I was until I got it. Wasn't bad either!! Actually one of my fav. Salad - bigger portion than we thought but we loved every single bite. Lamb dumplings - I'm not the biggest fan of lamb at ALL but this was actually good!! I don't know much about Uzbek food, but this place is one of my family's favorite restaurants in the city overall. Delicious salads, nice waitstaff and affordable prices. The sweetbreads kebab is one of our favorites-- succulent and tender, the chebureki is amazing-- meaty and soupy on the inside with a crispy flakey crust, the house salad is always a winner, and I'm a huge fan of the pelmeni soup and manti's. I've heard rumours about this place for awhile and finally got to try it. It is Central Asian cuisine, which is meat and cumin heavy. One thing I'm very particular about is lamb and how it is cooked. The lamb here is tender, seasoning is perfect, and they have several choices. If you're not into lamb fat, you can get a leaner version of the kebab, which I think was a great idea. The pilaf I had was the green, and it was not too fatty or greasy like some plov that I have had at other places. It had lamb bits and a delicious combination of green spices (I'm still trying to figure out exactly what was in it so I can attempt a version at home!) I came here with a group of 20, who had 3 separate bills, and this place did a great job of accommodating all of us. The food was cheap and delicious. I particularly liked the potato chebureki - a large deep-fried pastry with a lightly crispy exterior and mashed potatoes on the inside. It came with this delicious spiced tomato sauce that I could not get enough of. There are lots of vegetarian options, including several kinds of chebureki, samsy, and other types of dumplings, salads, etc. I left with a full stomach and a satisfied palate. I also really enjoyed dessert. As we had a large group, we ordered and tried all of them. My favorite, by far, was the green baklava, which was not like your traditional baklava. It was compressed minced nuts in a sugar sauce (and possibly green food coloring). The chebureki and green baklava alone make this place worth the 1-hour trek that my friends and I made to eat there. The only reason why I docked a star was because our service got a bit slow as more people came to the restaurant. Perhaps this place could benefit from hiring one more server, at least for the weekend. read more

From what I understand/what local Russian folks have told me, there aren't any good Russian restaurants in Queens, so Russians in the community resort to Uzbeki and Georgian food to stifle their cravings. Well this is the Uzbeki option. Very good value and flavourful foods. To be honest, I come just for the appetizers but I do sometimes get the shish kebabs. Other entrees or sides like the pilaf just aren't as good. Definitely get a few Cheburek, for the namesake, and maybe some Samsi as well. I'm a bit more attached to the Samsi, just because it's baked rather than fried. Most of the fillings are pretty good, but if you're short on stomach space, maybe skip the mushroom/potato fillings. Favourite Samsi is strangely the one with pumpkin filling- pumpkin and black pepper just go so well with each other. And with every order, you'll have a nice metal saucière with a tomato based sauce that pairs perfectly with everything. You'd be doing a disserve to yourself if you didn't partake. I do have the occasional craving for Pelmeni, which I would describe as something akin to a wonton soup, or Lagman just for those thick doughy noodles. Lastly, to address the elephant in the room, Lamb Testicles are a go, but the Beef Brains are a pass. But then again, I don't share Southern desire to eat deep-fried butter at country fairs. read more

My sister's BILS ordered because they're regulars at this spot and I swear every single thing just kept getting better and better. We got pickled veggies and a salad to begin with. The pickled veggies included pickles, cabbage, and peppers. The regular salad had avocado, asparagus, cucumbers etc. it wasn't even a regular salad. It was too good. We then got bread and this flaky doughy dish with potatoes in it- I will butcher the names but it's like Cherukey with potatoes. It's salty and oily and flavorful and tastes really good with their hot sauce on the table. It's delicious. We also got the meat pies - I assumed it would have ground beef in it but it was more like an empanada with pieces of beef and lamb and veggies in it. It was good but not my favorite. The French fries had some sort of seasoning, salty garlic + parsley on it which was also delicious. We got the chicken, lamb, lamb rib with fat and without fat and sea bass. It was all delicious- so freaking good! It's great for people who are low carb, and also meat lovers. It's perfectly marinated, salted and seasoned and I'm already craving more. That hot sauce on the table is your best friend there- it works with every single dish on the menu except dessert. We got a green dessert thing which is like pistachio baklava? Really different, really unique but really good. The service was a little slower than I expected but the servers were sweet and accommodating. I was so hungry and homesick for my moms Armenian cooking and asked my aunt what she recommended. She said I should try this place so I did. I was not disappointed. Came here for my first ever Uzbek cuisine experience after I was unable to get any service from Shashlichnaya which is located on Queens Blvd. Walked in and the first thing I noticed it how crowded the place was, the noise level was a little on the louder side but bearable. It's pretty confusing since they don't exactly have a host or hostess. But dang within seconds the guy that was busing a table asked me how big my party was and told me I could have the table he was just cleaning up. Definitely off to a good start. Within a few minutes we were seated and greeted with water. Menus were available on the table, sort of like a diner. The waitress tried to get our order but we weren't ready yet so she gave us time to look over the menu. After a few minutes I flagged her down and she came over and patiently took my order. Ordered 2 cheburekis, one meat and one veal, 1 beef kabob, 1 chicken layla kabob, 1 salmon kabob and green pilaf. After a couple minutes we noticed another woman that worked there made sure our waitress took our order since she noticed we were sitting there for a while without food. Appreciated the attentiveness. The cheburekis came out first then the green pilaf, followed by the kabobs. The cheburekis were delicious and so juicy on the inside. In all honesty the tasted really similar but man on man the sauce was awesome, I could eat that sauce with a huge bowl of rice. The green pilaf was very lamby tasting, not sure why, but for someone who likes lamb I really loved it. The kabobs were good, nothing special, they were cooked very nicely and still quite tender and juicy. The entire meal for the 2 of us cost under $30 per tip. Great food and very reasonably priced. A hidden gem. The prices are amazing, just like the food. Everything is fresh and delicious, but did not take long for the waiter to bring to us. All ingredients were top quality. Cheburechnaya did a great job with their website and have amazing pictures of their food. I first tried the chebureki and when I bit into it, it all started leaking with some kind of broth and I was unpleasantly surprised. I had to first let everything leak out and then I was able to eat them. Next, I had the Samsa and it had a lot of onion and I couldn't really taste the lamb in them. Personally, I don't like onion and I would rather taste more lamb. I then ordered the beef and lamb kebabs. The lamb was one was alright but the beef one was mostly unchewable. I also want to say that the Kebabs were very salty and the sauce that came with them was salty too. For desert beverages, they only offered green tea and coffee. It would be nice if they had more variety. As a side note, I got lucky with parking but it may be hard to find. In response to the question of why, they replied that they did not want to take responsibility for the kosherness of the place, just delusional! We were very satisfied with our meal here and I will say, I think the prices are excellent (especially for a Kosher spot!) We got many things to try: skirt steak shish kebabs, lamb shish kebabs, and salmon shish kebabs. The skirt steak shish kebabs were really the stars for me. They were nice and juicy. We also got rice with veggies, which was very good, borscht, and lagman noodle soup. I was not a fan of the lagman noodle soup, as it was completely overpowered with anise. I am not used to that seasoning in my lagman. We got babaganoush, and two salads, both the same except one had olives in it. They were a great portion and had cucumber, tomatoes, onions, and each one had a generous amount of avocado- a very pleasant surprise. Lastly, we got carrot salad and bread as well.
