I ordered takeout for dinner by calling the restaurant directly. Friendly on the phone and in person at pickup. My order of grilled octopus with lemon potatoes and string beans (veg of the day) was ready in 10 minutes from placement of order. So I went and it was ready for me. I forgot to get a photo but the serving was plenty -- two large legs with a lemon wedge and some picked red onions. The lemon potatoes and green beans were in a separate container. Tonight was my first time trying Agora Taverna- I went with a group of 12 to celebrate my friend's birthday. It's a cute little restaurant on the corner of Forest Hills' busy Main Street. With the windows, it gets tons of natural light, and is a relatively quiet restaurant too, even when at full capacity. It's very low-key, but at the same time, beautiful. I was impressed by how well the servers managed our large group, and I was even more impressed by the food. We ordered a few appetizers for the table, including tzatziki, stuffed grape leaves, hummus, calamari, and zucchini chips. This place is another instance of me liking the calamari, which doesn't happen often at other restaurants. It was tender and flavorful, and honestly didn't even need the sauce it came with, because it was that well-seasoned. The zucchini chips were thinly sliced and very lightly fried, so they don't leave you feeling weighed down. The stuffed grape leaves taste like the ones my mom makes- which is a very high compliment. It's like you're eating at somebody's home and not a restaurant at all. The hummus and tzatziki are both such classics, and were of course incredible. Paired with the warm pita bread, it was perfection. For my main, I got the fried filet of sole- all entrees come with a side of garlicky green beans and lemon potatoes. I savored every bite, but it ultimately ended up being too much food, so I took it to go. Now I have another meal for tomorrow! To end the meal, they provided the table with complimentary galaktoboureko, pineapple chunks and orange slices. It was very subtly sweet and perfectly creamy. It was the perfect end to our meal! Ummmmm Hello Greek food on Austin street. I don't know why I always miss this place, but when my friend wanted Mediterranean I did a Yelp search. I didn't want to just do quick to go from the other stop on Austin. We thought we would give it a try and also it didn't hurt they had a happy hour. A glass of the house white was sipped as we chatted about live and reviewed the menus. Some dips and some kabobs were had and everything was AMAZING! There is something about lemon potatoes (the cake with the kabobs) that I really could just eat them all day long. We also got one of the special appetizers which was everything bagel seasoning encrusted feta. It was topped with dates which was a nice touch. I just wish it was a bit more warmed up as it wasn't that spreadable. Finally, we ended the meal with complimentary dessert; Greek pastries and orange slices were had to seal the meal. The good: Some dishes are excellent. Grilled octopus is probably the specialty and the highlight of this restaurant. Lima beans are also delicious (when they're not oversalted). Branzino is not bad either, though on occasion it tastes muddy (probably because it is farm raised). Location is also nice. It's a pleasant restaurant to have a meal in. The bad: Some of the food items have been getting saltier, and in fact unbearably salty. I don't know if the chef is new or what. The lemon potatoes used to be great, but they seem to have become too salty and not as lemony. Thanksgiving dinner was dreadful. Skip it. I would hate to see this restaurant disappear. I was extremely disappointed with our experience. My husband and I came in to eat, and from the beginning I felt very rushed. We ordered a few different appetizers, and then for our entrées we each ordered grilled chicken and salads, along with a few drinks. However, she brought everything out at the same time instead of pacing the meal properly. When I asked for a little bit of tzatziki sauce, the woman told me no and said it would cost $3. The issue was not even the charge it was the way she spoke to us. I explained that we had not received any sauce and that I only wanted a tiny bit for my bread. If she had been polite about it, I honestly would have just paid for the whole plate even though I only needed a small amount. What I found strange is that I have been to many Mediterranean and seafood restaurants, and I have never had an issue being given a small side of tzatziki sauce. After that interaction, she never came back to our table. We even wanted another round of drinks, and she did not ask if we wanted dessert or check on us again at all. We watched every other table being served and checked on while we were completely ignored. We are a very nice couple and never cause problems, which made the experience feel even more upsetting and uncomfortable. Came here last night with a friend who comes here often. The food was amazing. We had the complementary warm pita with drizzled olive oil. Appetizers included grilled shrimp with lemon and olive oil and the agora chips. Both were delicious. I did feel the shrimp could have used a bit more seasoning, but that's my personal preference. Are greedy selves devoured the agora chips before I could take a picture. Skirt steak with lemon potatoes and broccoli was excellent. It normally comes with string beans but we were in a broccoli kind of mood. We ordered drinks off the happy hour menu including house made red sangria and white wine. We received a complimentary dessert as well. The service was spectacular. I've never encountered such pleasant and nice staff. I highly recommend this place. Came here on a Saturday morning right when they opened at noon. We were the first people there, and they told us to sit wherever we wanted. After we sat, I'm not sure if it was the same lady, but she asked if we had reservations. We said no, we didn't make any reservations. She said you should have waited at the host table. I was super confused. She then said it's fine you can sit here. She did this a few times to the other customers that came after us. All the other staff was friendly. We got complimentary cornbread to start. This was pretty good. We ordered the Beef Gyro Pita Sandwich for $17 and the Chicken Souvlaki Pita Sandwich$17. The beef gyro was flavorful. Enjoying a meal with friends again after so long is priceless. We did a celebratory meal to make up for all the missed holidays, birthdays, anniversaries and graduations over the past year. Just getting back into the swing of things slowly and this was a great step at Agora. When you're seated, a nice loaf of warm bread drizzled with olive oil greets you. To start, get the Grilled Octopus! Grilled smoky flavor and super tender, there's never enough on the plate. If you're averse to tentacles and suction cups, then more for me. We ordered 2 appetizer sized octopi for the table, but I really wanted one for myself. We also had a Greek Salad and Caesar Salad, but they just detracted from the Octopus. For entrée, our little family shared the Mixed Grilled Meat Platter and the Grilled Seafood Kabob Special. All the meats (Pork Skewer, Chicken Breast, Skirt Steak, Greek Sausage) were perfectly seasoned and grilled. The kabobs were 4 HuGe Shrimp and chunks of Salmon. Each entrée came with Lemon Potatoes and String Beans to round out the meal. Around the table, we had 2 Bronzinos, another Meat Platter and a Cajun Salmon Linguini. I'm having that Bronzino, next time, baby! For dessert, we had the classic Galaktoboureko. We shared 2 big hunks of baked custard wrapped in phyllo dough and drenched in syrup. This was complemented by the biggest mugs of coffee I've ever had at a restaurant. I guess they don't want to be asked for refills. When tonight, Valentines night 2025. The weight staff was lovely and very courteous. They had a prefix menu only $55 ahead and my wife ordered Bronzino and had to pay $10 more which was 65. The food portions were small. The food was OK nothing spectacular. The drinks were $15 apiece and were very small. At the end, the bill was $200 and they tried to charge a seven dollar processing fee. I was told they could only be removed if I paid cash. I've been to very good restaurants in New York City with a great reputation that never charged me a processing fee so the guy has a prefix pre- dinner for the amount of food that I got was not inexpensive. I refuse to pay it and was told that I didn't have to because I made a giant fuss I would say for the amount of money that I spent it was quite overpriced. read more

The meat platter consisted of a sausage, grilled chicken, skirts streak, a kebab, broccoli, and lemon potato. There was nothing special about it, but for the price it was a little underwhelming. Honestly, i might have enjoyed the lemon potatoes the most. The Tzatziki sauce was quite thick, but the flavor was there. I enjoyed the shrimp pasta a little more as the sauce was different from the usual tomato sauce, and the shrimps were on the bigger side. However, the shrimps were tasteless on top of the pasta. With that being said we did get a complementary dessert on the house. It was a little too sweet for me, but it was nice service. Maybe the lunch menu options will be better? A real gem! We came here on a date night not having checked any reviews and were so pleasantly surprised. The restaurant is quite big with a nice interior. It wasn't very busy when we visited but the atmosphere was nice. The staff were so knowledgeable about every dish and took great care informing us about their specials and best sellers. We ordered octopus appetisers on their recommendation and it was great! Not at all chewy which is sometimes a risk when ordering octopus. We tried their brunch with Beef Gyro, Fried Calamari and Grilled Vegetable Medley. The fried calamari was delicious, fried lightly and kept juicy & soft inside. The portion of Grilled Vegetable Medley was great with a variety of veggies which were well cooked and flavorful. My husband had $20 brunch: Beef Gyro with 1 cold drink and hot drink. He chose mimosa and hot coffee but both drink were not so good. We've walked by Agora Taverna many times over the years, but it never drew us in. On a lark, we decided to check it out for date night recently. It was completely different than what we expected, in a good way. I suspect the daytime lunch crowd is a bit more casual and different than the night time crowd given what I've read that their menu is during the afternoon. Not that we wouldn't like that. In fact that's what we thought we were getting. But, the evening menu was a bit more upscale and pricier, as in the quality of what they offer. The place is incredibly welcoming. The staff is very friendly. They seated us a little further back where it was a bit warmer given the chill in the night air. It's a cute place. Quaint. The open kitchen is a nice touch, as is the fresh vegetables on display. It is ideal for date night, or a quiet meal with friends. Jayson started with the melted feta special appetizer. I'm not sure what is in it, but it is divine. It actually looks like a dreamy dessert. But, it's this ridiculously delicious creation that is not to be missed. Same goes for the grilled octopus, which is prepared with dill, onions and capers. Simply mouth watering. I followed that up with the pork sticks platter, which is less tacky than it's name suggests. It's three skewers of pork loin perfectly seasoned with Mediterranean spices, over a bed of rice. It was delicious. My only complaint was that the waiter never asked me how I wanted the meat cooked, and it came out a little over-cooked and tougher than I would have wanted. My husband wanted me to send it back, but I opted not to, as it was still delish as it was, just not as delish as it would have been had I been given the option to choose how much it got cooked. Jayson opted for the crab cake appetizer -- 95 jumbo lump crab meat, field greens and peppers -- for his main course, which was more than enough to satisfy his hunger, and put a pretty big smile on his face.
