Beef and Lamb Shawarma Bowl with Hummus and Fries
    Samah I.

I can't believe I didn't update my review for DUZAN. It's amazing and I've been going here for years now. The chicken schnitzel remains my go to with the fries and the salad and white and duzan sauce. Can't go wrong. The ful medames took me entirely by surprise because it was arguably the best I've tried. Super flavorful and complex flavors and amazing portion size with fluffy warm bread on the side. A perfect, healthy lunch. I still love their hummus and I hate all other hummus I've tried. Also they've been under construction for literally years. They're supposedly supposed to finish in 2025 but we got two months left and nothing looks ready yet so there's that. They used to take ages to prepare food (over 20-25 min) but they've sped up a lot since.

Ordered the combo platter! The beef kebab was probably my favorite. Loved the portion and variety (salad, humus, rice). Meats were well flavored but on the dry side. Pita with the garlic aioli was fire!! The side dipping sauces were bomb! Would go back. Current under construction so there a few outdoor tables to sit at outside and like 4 seats indoors.

I saw this spot on IG via a foodie influencer (which I am growing more wary of) and decided to come try this for myself. I've been here twice now and I will say the quality has been consistent. It's an easy grab for a quick bite to eat, you order at the counter and then they call once your order is ready. There's a good amount of seating consisting of benches and tables despite it being under constriction the first time I went, not sure if they have plans to expand. I've had the chicken schwarma wrap, platters, hummus and falafels - everything was made fresh and delicious. You can also customize with any sauce you'd like, they have them available at the tables for your convenience. Overall, I feel like this is a great go to spot when you don't know what to eat in Astoria or are craving Mediterranean food.

The food here has consistently been delicious! The kababs are made fresh to order and have a nice char grilled flavor, the meat was tender, the salad was nice especially with the pickles and I love the couscous here! The fries were also super crispy. The service was great, the staff was so kind and conveyed the idea that they genuinely cared about the experience of their customers! It was a relaxed atmosphere with a good amount of seating, casual dining with good food i will definitely be coming back

HOLY CRAP how did I not know about this!? If this were closer it'd be a go-to spot! Like, I could consider doing delivery for this and I NEVER do delivery. Ample portion size - easily two days worth for the mix shawarma hummus is GOOD, and they put the sauces on the side for controlled dipping (read: dunking). You'd never realize this place is IT from how it looks on the outside. A shame they're far away from the thoroughfare.

Yummy! Got the beef shawarma plate for lunch with hummus and fries as the sides. If you dine in, you don't need to choose only one sauce! They give three sauce bottles for you to use. Loved the pita that it came with as well. Next time, I'd get the salad as a side instead of the fries! Think it would freshen up the meal more. Service was quick and simple.

Took a while to get my order of chicken kabob on pita. It was not the typical round pita but more of a square pocket pita (see picture). As for the taste, it was good and juicy and not dry at all. It did the trick for a first time visit. There were a lot of business at the 2:30p time. Many appeared to be regulars as well as first timers like me. They ran out of beef and lamb so I downgraded them due to options. The ladies taking the orders and packing them were very friendly and efficient.

The food here is heavenly! Some of the best Mediterranean food I've had. The food is very fresh and flavorful. I've only gotten takeout here but it's great every time. Most recently I had the Sabich bowl (eggplant) and it was delicious. We also got the baba ganoush, which has a unique but delightful flavor. I love their pita!

The chicken shawarma platter with hummus and salad is SO DELICIOUS THAT I DAYDREAM ABOUT IT!!! It is healthy, flavorful, and so, so good. It comes with pickles, pita, and delicious garlic sauce. I'm told that I'm a harsh food critic but this place is a 10/5!!!! Absolutely amazing! Friendly employees, and nice ambiance. They have a sit in area.

Eats under $15 Truly a Middle Eastern gem. You can get things like shawarma, falafel, mixed grill with great sides such as their hand cut fries, hummus, couscous, and pickled veggies. Duzan makes everything fresh to order!! The food is seasoned so well and has a tender bite. Make sure to finish it off with their sauces. We got white sauce, Duzan sauce, and harissa sauce. Quality ingredients, generous portions, and a price tag that won't break the bank...a New Yorkers dream come true! Highly recommend this place!!

ive tried a lot of shawarma places down steinway and duzan is definitely among the best of them. i got the arayes and chicken shawarma which were both very filling and flavorful. they were generous with sauces and the hummus and baba ghanoj sides. i enjoyed the tahini and duzan sauce but only wish i got garlic sauce to pair with the chicken shawarma and pita. the only downside is they dont provide any veggies unlike some other shawarma places, but who cares about some leaves when the meat is this good. they get a ton of delivery orders so its prob worth calling 20 mins ahead to order if you dont want to wait for your food.

2/2 Food; 1/1 Value; 0.5/1 Service; 1/1 Ambience I have been frequenting Duzan since 2019 and to this day their shawarma is unmatched in NYC! Even though I no longer live in the area, the food is so alluring that I have commuted to Astoria for Duzan and Duzan alone. I don't know what magic they do to tenderize and flavor the meat that has me returning time and again. I ought to try more items from Duzan, but honestly, the shawarma is so good that I can't but help order the platter every time. The chicken and beef are both fantastic options, being superbly flavorful and robust. I would say that the chicken is just moderately better because the beef is a very lean cut that is not as much. The rice, fries, and salad have all been good standard sides that I've tried in the past, but I would highly recommend either the hummus or baba ganoush as at least one of the sides in a platter. In particular, the slight smoky flavor of the baba ganoush perfectly compliments the meats. Each platter is also served with beautifully golden and soft garlic pita, which is great for either dipping or making into a little sandwich. As for the sauces, it is always a great idea to come with friends so that you can order a bunch of sauces to share. My stand outs are the garlic spread, harissa, and classic white sauces. The garlic spread is very potent and be prepared to boast garlic breath for hours thereafter, but it's worth it. The harissa is not that spicy, but certainly packs a punch; the white sauce is a pure classic for shawarma. Regardless of what you order, however, the food always tastes fresh and is served piping hot sliced off the vertical spits. The staff is friendly, but be prepared for a long wait if you go in person and do not order ahead. Duzan is a very popular establishment in the community, so the wait time to order and receive food can be very long, particularly during Ramadan. The ambiance is very casual with picnic like tables indoors and outdoors (weather permitting, not heated), and I believe it's because they are under construction, but is has also been in this state for several years now. Albeit casual with hole-in-the-wall vibes, the store is maintained well and I've always found the premises clean. For the high quality of fresh food and generous portion sizes-- I only finish the platters if I am starving-- Duzan is certainly worth it!

    Chicken Shawarma Pita
    Trisha T.

DELIVERY REVIEW -- I've ordered from Duzan twice so far and I've really liked it. Their chicken shawarma has been reliably delicious. For the pita, the one struggle I had is that the veggies were not distributed evenly with the chicken so they were mostly at the bottom which some people may prefer, but for me I like to have my veggies distributed with every bite of meat. There's one thing I wanted to try from them which is their special item, the Arayes with cheese. I saw it on their Instagram and it just looked so good. This dish comes with pickles, radish, tahini, and their hot sauce. Best way I can describe this dish is like eating a burger flatbread sandwich, except the ground meat and cheese is in a pita and grilled which made for a delicious meal. The other dish I really wanted to try was their hummus. I personally found it delicious, especially with the olive oil on top. Their hummus is REALLY smooth so it might surprise those who are used to their hummus having more texture. My fiancé was personally not a fan but I was. I'll definitely be ordering from here again but might opt for the chicken shawarma bowl instead so I can have my veggies with each bite lol. UPDATE: I am fairly certain Duzan has the software fluffiest pitas I've ever had. Warm and addicting with the hummus!

I think so, I don't live in the area but I've been there during COVID

I sat by the window, which gave me a peaceful view and made the experience feel even more special. From the moment I arrived, I felt so well taken care of. The server Eduardo was kind and attentive, the space was elegant yet comfortable, and the whole atmosphere was inviting. I ordered a delicious fish dish FRIED FILET OF SOLE, tartar sauce and lemon served with potatoes and green beans - fresh, simple, and perfectly cooked. For my appetizer, I chose TZATZIKI Greek yogurt, cucumber & garlic - flavorful and unique! They also brought out fresh bread with garlic oil, which was a lovely touch. At the end of the meal, they surprised me with a complimentary dessert. It looked like a delicate, nut-free baklava, served beautifully with fresh pineapple and orange slices on the side. It was light, sweet, and the perfect way to end the meal. Prices were average for the area and definitely worth it for the quality and experience. Take a look at the pictures - they really say it all. If you're in Forest Hills, don't miss this charming spot.

(yes, seven stars, because five isn't enough)…read more I genuinely do not know where to begin with how incredible Mezze Pizza and Sushi is, so let's just start with this: if you have not eaten here yet, drop whatever you are doing right now and go. I mean it. This review exists because I left dinner and could not stop thinking about it the entire drive home. From the second we walked through the door, the warmth hit us immediately. This was not the rehearsed, robotic "welcome in" you get at a thousand other restaurants -- this was real, unmistakable hospitality. The staff treated us like beloved regulars on our very first visit, checking in at exactly the right moments, refilling drinks before we even realized they were low, and radiating genuine pride in the experience they were creating for us. You can tell within thirty seconds whether a staff actually loves what they do, and at Mezze, it is written all over their faces. And then there's the food. Let's talk about the sushi first, because it might be the freshest, most vibrant sushi I have had anywhere -- kosher or not. Clean cuts, beautiful presentation, and that unmistakable taste of quality you can only get when everything is prepared with real intention and care. But the veggie pie. THE VEGGIE PIE. I need you to understand that this is not just "good for a vegetable pizza." This is one of the best pizzas I have had in my life, full stop. The crust achieves that mythical balance every pizzeria chases and most never reach -- crisp and slightly charred on the outside, yet impossibly soft, chewy and airy underneath. The vegetables were not an afterthought scattered on top; they were vibrant, perfectly roasted, clearly sourced fresh that very day, and layered with a sauce that tasted like it was made with actual love rather than poured from a can. Every single bite was an explosion of flavor and texture working in total harmony. I have genuinely thought about that pie multiple times since eating it. As someone who keeps kosher, I cannot stress enough how rare it is to find an establishment that delivers this level of quality without compromising an inch on kosher standards. Mezze does not just meet the bar -- they obliterate it. This is proof that kosher dining can be exceptional, inventive, and absolutely delicious, not just "acceptable." Mezze Pizza and Sushi has earned a permanent, non-negotiable spot in our regular rotation. We will be back again and again and again. If you are even remotely considering trying this place, stop considering and just go. You will not regret it. Also, AMAZING ambiance!!!
