Nick's is a great spot for Greek and Mediterranean inspired food in Forest Hills NY (Queens). I stopped by there the first the other day after arriving at LaGuardia Airport. I was in town on a business trip and wanted some authentic Mediterranean food that was nearby. Nick's did not disappoint. I started with an appetizer of Grape Leaves. It was enough for two people. The ingredients were fresh and they were tasty. For an entree I went with a lamb gyro platter with a side of grilled vegetables. The lamb was well seasoned but not overly salty. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. The service was attentive and quick and the ambiance was casual and all local neighborhood folks. My birthday 2026 celebration takes my festivities to Forest Hills, Queens, NYC for Greek, falafel and seafood with my neighbor who is also a friend. I was exuberant for the occasion of goodness to patronize, at long last. What gives you hope. There is an outdoor seating patio that occupies the entire sidewalk and half the street. The weather was gloomy cloudy, but not raining which enable my party of two to dine outdoors. Our table was uneven wobbling and shaking minimal the entire meal which reminisce "Lisa from Temecula" sketch from "Saturday Night Live," but not as violently aggressive shaking. Customer service is average attentive. Oddly, our appetizers arrived first and my wine did not. We had to request my wine which should be distributed first without request or reminder, thus the four stars. This restaurant was not entirely busy nor crowded for a Friday early afternoon. Nick's Bistro is a small cafe with a modern aesthetic appeal. I enjoy and prefer to be well-cultured expose to all international cuisines without judgment and an open mind for appreciation and global awareness. I am not knowledgeable with Greek cuisine, but I do know that Astoria is the locale for the go-to restaurants. I enter with a empty stomach. I exited fulfilled. Dramatic irony: this business name is also the name of my former love - not the same Nick, certainly not the same man. My foodie synopsis: Lamb gyro sandwich, $12.00 The meat was soft, but fresh and Tzatziki sauce was heavy. I do not consume lamb often, but once in a blue moon I would not exclude lamb to consume. The pita bread was the highlight which was fresh, soft and cooked with a good consistency without burning or harden. The gyro contain very pauacity minimal vegetables of lettuce, half cherry tomato and red onion. I always prefer red onion. I prefer regular tomato. This sandwich ate my fill to sustain hunger pangs the entire afternoon. Gyro sandwich is always my default Greek entrée of choice. Oddly, this entrée is price higher than listed on their website for $9.00. I do not believe their website is updated for price. Caesar salad, small $11.25 It was fresh and delightful filled with Parmesan shaved cheese. This portion is actually medium size. The croutons are thankfully not hard, but I never like croutons at all. I am always enamored with the lettuce. Ruffino, Chianti, 2019 red wine $12.00 This wine is one of my favorite reds, but it is difficult to find at most restaurants or cafés not widely offer. It was a joyous delight. It is exactly as is dry, very medium-bodied smooth finish Italian red wine from Tuscany, Italy, crafted from indigenous Sangiovese grape. It highlight bright cherry flavors and surely tasted. I was floating in very high spirits. Chicken rice soup, pint $6.95 Served luke warm but not piping hot with steam visibly emitted. It was also served with Oyster crackers. It was enjoyable and warm the heart. Greek Omelet, over easy egg whites $16.50 It was served with Greek feta cheese with vegetables yellow zucchini and pita chips. I highly despise Greek feta cheese and the same for Greek yogurt because both are extremely heavy, thick and too rich. I do not see any tomatoes. This entrée did appeared well prepared and well cooked but no runny yoke. My neighbor thoroughly enjoyed this entrée. Every time I think of omelet it bring flashbacks from past long-haul international flights major airlines of standard airplane food popularity for in-flight breakfast, often served with potatoes, sausage, or roasted vegetables. Neighborhood Greek restaurant. I walked in on a Tuesday evening and was seated immediately. It's a family friendly restaurant with about half of tables having kids. Full bar with beer, wines, and house cocktails. Beer selection is all macros. They were out of lamb kebab, so I pivoted to the chicken souvlaki. Generous portion which was enough for two meals. A good value at just about $30 once tax and tip are factored in. Chicken is well marinated, so it came out juicy and flavorful. I opted for roasted broccoli and cauliflower as a side. We had a very nice time at Nick's Bistro on Valentine's Day. We made a reservation, and I am glad we did, because it was incredibly busy. The staff was attentive and polite. There was jazz music playing, and I liked that a lot. I ordered a mocktail and my husband had a rum punch which pleasantly strong. I liked the flavor of the crab cakes, but I prefer them to be a bit more firm. The marinara sauce that came with the mozzarella sticks was so good. My steak was on the rare side, but I ordered medium, so I couldn't finish it. My husband's souvlaki was very tasty (he had a pork/chicken platter). The apple crumb cheesecake was delicious. Nick's is a solid place for dinner with generous portions and an efficient staff. I've been there a couple of times. The food on my last visit was mostly excellent. The whole fish was cooked to perfection. However, the veggie medley was overpowered by rosemary and the potatoes were very overcooked and dry. We also had lamb kebab that was not consistently cooked. Some were medium and other pieces were medium well making them a bit tough. The highlight of the meal was the starter - butternut squash soup. Wow! So tasty. I love everything about this place! For such a quaint and unassuming restaurant, the food is loudly exceptional -- I was completely blown away. We started with the grilled octopus and the cucumber hummus with warm, buttery pita -- both absolutely delicious. The octopus, paired with pickled red onions and chickpeas, was next-level good. For our mains, the branzino with vegetables was perfectly cooked and bursting with flavor, and the seafood pasta was rich, creamy, and melted in your mouth -- ridiculously delicious. Our waiter was attentive and also knew how to craft a great cocktail. We enjoyed a Basil Splash with Maker's Mark whisky -- so tasty and refreshing. I think my brother brought me and various combinations of past girlfriends & my kids. Last year he & I came to acknowledge our mom's recent passing. I wrote a review. One year since my brother also departed, I return to Nick's Bistro both because Nick's is an exceptional culinary experience. The food is flavorful with Smokey smells and tastes that make you hungry even as you're getting full. Just a perfectly rich to the senses experience. The service is attentive, friendly, kind and eager to answer any questions I knew I wanted the stuffed mushrooms. My brother & I split that last year. It was awesome. The mushroom perfectly warm and firm with a filling that made everything amazing. Great taste but great texture. Each bite more satisfying than the last. And filling. I ate the whole app but could easily have been split. My brother would have loved it I was struggling with what to get for my entre. Everything on the two menus sounded great. I asked my awesome waiter for suggestions. I had mentioned the New York strip but I wanted something I could only get at Nicks. He pointed me to the first item on the appetizer menu, filet mignon with poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Wow! Nailed it. The meat was perfectly thin & tender, the eggs melted like butter and tasted like a rich creamy blend. The hollandaise sauce tied it all together. I'm stuffed. I finished with coffee. I'm very happy. I've heard great things about Nick's Bistro and I finally got a chance to try it since we were in the area. We were promptly seated when we arrived around 730pm on a Tuesday. There were plenty of other diners in the restaurant. We opted for the Nick's combo, which allowed us to chose 3 appetizers for $25. We selected the meatballs, grilled calamari and crab cakes. I was extremely impressed by how flavorful the crab cakes were and how it wasn't too salty. The grilled calamari had a great sauce and it tasted delicious. The meatballs were hearty and seasoned well. This combo is well worth the money in variety and quantity of food since we were halfway full. We also ordered the mixed platter with pork soulvaki, lamb gyro, and fries. Although the platter was good, it was less satisfying than the flavorful appetizer we started with. Always a favorite place for our mommy lunch gatherings. Opted to sit indoors today since it's so cold. I love the branzino here so it's one of my go to. Comes with a choice of sides. For drinks, I wasn't planning on having a drink but my friend ordered a pear cider and once the waiter said I could spike it, I had to order one myself. Did not disappoint. We recently dined here following a somber occasion--after my brother's funeral, much of our family gathered for a meal together. This was his favorite neighborhood restaurant. The staff could not have been more kind or accommodating. They graciously rearranged the furniture so we could all sit together in a long row, which meant a lot to us in that moment. The food was outstanding--fresh, flavorful, and cooked to absolute perfection. The seafood salad was especially memorable: a generous portion with incredibly fresh ingredients. We're back! And what a different experience . My husband came in and Nick, who had partially taken care of us. Last time came up right away and asked where he wanted to sit. He was welcoming, kind, and accommodating. ! We decided to sit outside . Trying out new places in the area. Nicks has a lot of great options. We shared the appetizer special, potato pancakes with tzatziki sauce on top. Not quite like Bubbe's but it's pretty good. My wife had the plant based gyro which was nice as an option for vegetarians. She said it was dry and needed some kind of sauce other than the hummus it comes with. We had to ask for tzatziki for it. Still kind of bland. The hummus has to be homemade because it's very thick and delicious. They didn't give us any pita bread which I thought was odd because every table had a side of it except for us. I tried the special, stuffed crab filet of sole with a side of lemon potatoes. The dish itself was delicious but for some reason came out cold. I didn't complain because fish is hard to work with especially if you stuff it. I didn't want them to dry it out. I mainly had the fried calamari which came with a tomato base sauce that was so good! Forgot the formal name of the meatball appetizer but my boyfriend enjoyed it. Nick's is really quite excellent and a joy when I'm in the mood for good Greek food and would rather not drive to Astoria. I have had several things, and each one is exactly how it should be in my opinion. The Avgalemeno soup has a light touch of cream and a note of lemon that is a subtle aftertaste as opposed to being so flavor forward it punches you in the face as soon as it oozes onto your tongue. The spanakopita is perfect: flaky phyllo dough and delicious spinach with feta and all the right seasonings to make this one land on the top of my list. The real star for me was the grilled pulpo though, I mean, wow. The pulpo is so incredibly tender and prepared with a lot of attention to detail. Based on reviews I had very high hopes for an authentic Greek restaurant, but unfortunately it's more of a diner that serves Greek food, and only mediocre Greek food at that. We had lots to sample from: quinoa falafel (good), vegetarian grape leaves (winner of the night), stuffed mushrooms (tepid but tasty), filet of sole (industrial and cafeteria-like with lots of paprika), lemon potatoes (boiled Yukon gold with corn starchy lemon sauce spooned on top) and a good custard dessert not on the menu. Wait staff was great, if rushing. If you're looking for OK- food served very quickly to accommodate turnover (gotta hand it to them-- it's very popular), this is your place.
