    Eggplant dip

Le Petit Pecheur is one of those Mediterranean seafood restaurants where you select your fish and choose a cooking style. The prices of the seafood were not displayed. They do reservations but there were plenty of tables available on a Saturday afternoon. The service was ok; they could have been more attentive in refilling the water. The chairs were a little rickety and the bathroom door would not lock. Food was pretty good though. Complimentary bread is provided with free refills. The eggplant dip was good and garlicky. The fried calamari had a light breading and was delicious with the two dips (no marinara though). I wasn't fond of the grilled shrimp as the char made it slightly bitter. Sauteed might have been a better choice. The grilled branzino was light, delicious and slightly garlicky. The sauteed scallops were delicious and were my favorite. It was cooked perfectly tender with a delicious sauce. The rice was nicely flavored and a good side dish for the meal. I preferred this to Hamido's except for the grilled shrimp and bread. The seasoning is lighter than Hamido's (which can be overly salty) but I think it compliments the seafood better.

Ordered: Virgin Mojito (~$4) Large Greek Salad (~$16) ~0.7lb Fried Calamari (~$13) ~1.4lb Grilled Spanish Branzino (~$27) ~0.9lb Grilled Marinated Sardines (~$19) ~0.4lb Grilled Moroccan Sardines (~$7) ~1lb Grilled U10 Tiger Shrimp (~$28) Belgian Hand Cut French Fries (~$7) Rice Vegetable Medley (~$8) Aya's take: There is no shortage of seafood spots in Astoria whether they're Middle Eastern or Mediterranean. I've never had Algerian-style seafood and was excited to try out Le Petit Pêcheur. We were a party of 6 and made a reservation that same day which was great! We arrived and got seated but weren't explained the process. First, you go up to the fish counter and order the fish you want, the amount you want, and the style you want it cooked (grilled, fried, or sautéed). They've done a great job with the display and I liked seeing the various options in front of me. The worker who helped us was super friendly and took the time to explain what each fish was. I also appreciate that their pricing is transparent (posted on their website). So why 3 stars? Once we finally ordered, we went back to our seats and ordered appetizers, sides, and drinks with our waiter. It took almost 40 minutes to receive the Greek Salad and Virgin Mojito we ordered. We had already received our Fried Calamari before that. Similarly, we got all the fish before the French Fries & Rice Vegetable Medley came out. It was frustrating and took away from the experience the fact that we didn't have the sides to eat with the fish at the time the fish came out. We literally had finished everything when the waiter came out with Lemon Potatoes which we had to send back considering it took too long to get them. It's a shame considering all the food we had was actually delicious. The Fried Calamari was crispy, tender, and not chewy at all, the Grilled Spanish Branzino was buttery, light, and delicious, and the Tiger Shrimp was grilled beautifully and the lemon olive oil mix just enhanced it even more. Even the Marinated Sardines were some of the best I've had. The fish was fresh, grilled/fried properly, and we truly didn't have a bad bite here. Prices are also more than reasonable. There's a clear lack of communication by the staff since two people within our group had provided their credit card to pay and they charged both. It's a shame we couldn't enjoy it as much as I hoped because of the operational issues. Hope they improve with time but until then, I won't be back.

There are plenty of seafood restaurants in Astoria that has this ordering style where you go up to the front and you see this fresh selection of seafood and you can order by the weigh/item. The ones we had been to in the past usually allows you to also pick different type of cooking style or seasoning but this place only cooks it their way. It's good for people who are indecisive but disappointing for people who want variety of flavor. They usually have a section of appetizers and drinks you can order on a separate menu as well. The staffs were very low energies when we visited on a weekend night. The overall ambiance and interaction made us feel a little uncomfortable. We ordered: - eggplant dip - fries - Greek salad (large) - cooked fish - calamari - octopus Honestly I was so disappointed with the food. It didn't taste as fresh and was overall too salty. The eggplant dip had a weird taste. Friend fries were not as crispy and unevenly distributed portions of salt. The calamari was nothing special. The fish was okay, and the octopus was so salty we actually sent back the dish. It was very difficult to enjoy it. The staff was so accommodating and actually took the dish off our bill. (Thank you!! - great customer service!). My favorite item was probably the Greek salad, but then again it's hard to mess up a salad. I would say this is my least favorite counter order style seafood restaurant in Astoria. My friend said great things about it prior to my visit and I really wish I would have liked it.

Get ready to clutch your pearls: I've not yet been to Abuqir. Gasp! Shock! Horror! Won't someone please think of the CHILDREN??? In my defense, doesn't this mean my review of Le Petit Pecheur (which always makes me think of George Bizet's underrated opera, for all you Romantic Era nerds) wil be...purer? No annoying comparisons and such? I digress. We came, we seafood-ed, we smiled. - Fried Sardines: My favorite dish of the night. Perfectly breaded, lightly crispy, totally filling, yet not briney or heavy. I think I'm in love.... - Baba Ganoush + Hummus + Pita: I forget why we ordered these, but they were tasty and creamy and made a nice distraction while we waited for our entrees. - Grilled Octopus: Perfectly chewy and zesty, exactly the kind of poulpe you might enjoy on the beachy coast of the southern Mediterranean. - Scallops: Also well cooked, and tastier than they had any right to be considering the simple seasoning. - Shrimp Linguine in butter garlic sauce: I mean, you really can't go wrong with a dish like this. My only regret was having to share it with five other friends. - Branzino: Butterflied, tender and full of flavor. There are many branzino dishes out there. This one won't break the bank, and will leave both your stomach and your wallet happy. If you need more, definitely pad your meal with Mashed Potatoes and Fries because carbs are happy things, and happy things deserve to be eaten. Space is ample, as are the portions, and service is quick and friendly. They play a lovely mix of North African French and Arabic music, which just adds to the beachy resort town atmosphere, IMO. Perhaps one day I'll finally make it to Abuqir, and the cycle will be complete.

New items: Branzino: liked this better than the sea bass, felt like it was more tender Octopus: not bad, and would order if craving it, but I'd rather get from Greek places The large Greek salad was plentiful and actually went well with the food.

Ordered through Uber Eats - grilled octopus - portion was fantastic! Good to perfection. Full of flavor and loved the oregano in - grilled calamari - well seasoned also cooked to perfection and the citrus sauce was so good with the bread - lobster tail - cooked well. I think could use a drizzle of sauce - baked clams - very yummy. The breading got a little soggy but maybe due to it being delivered

A great astoria seafood place! Market fresh seafood cooked to order, dont skip out on the calimari. We thought the octopus was a bit salty, and they compped the food. Amazing service!

Astoria has many options for pick your own seafood places, so I was curious when I saw this newer one pop up. We got the octopus, scallops, lobster tails, shrimp, two sides, and asked for all the seafood to be grilled. The shrimp was definitely the best thing out of the bunch. The rest was not bad, but cooking was definitely a bit inconsistent. The octopus and scallops could've used more grilling, but the lobsters were too burnt in some places which made it hard to chew. Service was nice and quick. Total came out to around $150 with two sodas.

My husband and I had a delicious dinner here over the long weekend. It was a little confusing figuring out if we sit first or order first, but the team working helped us get it all sorted. We ordered a variety of dishes, our top two being the fried calamari and the grilled scallops... but everything was high quality and cooked perfectly. While we didn't end up ordering any, they did have a selection of Algerian sodas which sounded delicious. No alcohol, so keep that in mind if you want wine with your seafood. Would recommend!

I tried this spot for dinner with a friend. In the front of the restaurant is the seafood bar in a display case. Literally any seafood you can think of! The instructions for how to order are also by the front. Step 1: Choose your seafood, Step 2: choose how it's cooked, and Step 3: sit down and order sides! To be honest, seeing all the seafood, I was overwhelmed at first bc there are SO MANY OPTIONS!!! But the staff was really nice- both the servers and the guy at the seafood counter who is the owner. We had asked what he recommends which was really helpful if you aren't sure what to pick. My friend and I eat everything and anything (but if you had certain restrictions or preferences, you can share that and they will most definitely take it into account). We ended up with a variety of dishes by the end. Our favorites were the calamari, the octopus, red potatoes, and fried eggplant. We ordered two types of calamari: fried calamari and calamari provencal, which was calamari stir fried in a really aromatic, umami seasoning including olives. I don't even like olives (usually), but having this in the dish gave it a great flavor! The octopus was my personal favorite because it was delicious and the texture was seriously so so good, and so fresh. As sides, we loved the red potatoes (yum!) and the fried, crispy eggplant that was covered in a tomato-based sauce. Really happy with our meal here, and would definitely come back. Come with a big group to try a lot of things. The portions here are great for sharing!

They are a new family-owned seafood restaurant and market in Astoria, Queens, known for its Mediterranean cuisine with Algerian and French influences. The concept allows diners to select fresh seafood from a display case and choose how they would like it prepared, such as grilled, sautéed, or fried. Like Himido or Astoria Seaford, they prepare the dishes in front of you. We ordered the branzino, grilled butterfly shrimp, and a virgin mojito for our lunch and were impressed with how our fish was cooked. Their specialties include branzino and American Snapper, grilled and fried options like octopus, calamari, and sardines, and various fresh catches sold by the pound. In addition to the seafood, the menu offers pasta dishes, a variety of appetizers, such as spicy feta dip, and side dishes, such as lemon potatoes and grilled asparagus. Initially, we found the service a little slow, but once they got going, everything clicked into place. From the point of view of casual Mediterranean dining, it is a delight in the warm spring and summer months, whether sitting near the windows or outside. Reservations were recommended, but when we arrived Saturday afternoon, they were not necessary as there were plenty of tables and seats available. All in all, a solid recommendation

Very delicious spot in Astoria. Newer seafood spot too and would recommend a visit. Loved the food styles and options offered. Service was great too. Not too busy on a Saturday for lunch.

Really taste fresh fish dinner. Everything was delicious although I didn't realize the clams would be breaded, so that was disappointing. Plus they were full of sand, very unappetizing. Besides the sandy clams everything tasted wonderful. My favorite were definitely the scallops, followed closely by the bronzino. Service was okay but got busy by the time we were leaving so less attentive. Called for reservations on Friday night 7:30pm but plenty of seats when we arrived. It's a nice decorated restaurant. Good for a date or small groups. Was sad to find out they don't serve any alcohol. A glass of white wine would have really rounded out the experience. Overall was a great dinner, would definitely be back.

We were excited to try IBN Hamido and came on a Sunday. There was no wait to be seated (lucky us!)…read moreand we were told to go to the back and to pick out our seafood before picking seats. It's a little overwhelming because there is definitely a lot of seafood to choose from. The fish selection looks fresh but they do have some previously frozen seafood like large prawns and lobster tails. They have the names of everything and the price per pound posted which can be a little intimidating because it's a bit expensive. We ordered a grilled branzino and asked for the large tiger shrimp. The staff behind the counter said it would be the ones without the head but when long at the sign, it said head on tiger shrimp so I was a little confused but we just went with it because we assumed the staff knew what they were talking about. We did also get the head-on large prawns. We asked for everything to be grilled and confirmed that they don't use butter or cheese or cream on anything and then we went upstairs to get a table. Upstairs by the window is nice because you can people watch on a good day. We asked the staff member if there were any butter or cream or cheese in the mezza or rice and she said no, so we proceeded to order those and also asked about the soup of the day. She told us it was a shrimp and corn soup and that sounded good so we ordered that as well. The mezza came and the babaganoush and moussaka were good. The lemon potatos were fine but other places have made it better. The tahini was tahini and nothing special. The soup came and we took a sip and it tasted like cream so we were confused because the staff member didn't mention cream when she was taking about it. We asked about it when another staff member came by to drop off the rice. The original staff member who helped us came back over and we asked her if there was cream in the soup. She told us that yes because it's a chowder and the chowder has dairy and told us that we ordered the soup. I'm not denying that we ordered it. My issue is that we specifically asked about avoiding dairy in other food menu items and she didn't even stop to mention that hey the soup of the day that you want is a shrimp and corn chowder and has dairy. She took it back but I felt like we were inconveniencing her because of her tone. The mains arrived shortly after. The head-on prawns came and then the branzino. The large head-on prawns were overcooked and a little rubbery. The branzino was a touch too lemony but that was probably my fault for squeezing lemon over it. The fish was firm and smooth. There wasn't a lot of flavor on either dish. By this time, our table is pretty full and one of the staff members came by with the tiger shrimp and he more or less just stared at the full table and then plopped the plate down right next to my husband's phone. We barely even had time to move plates around to clean up space for him, but I feel like they should have definitely looked a little harder because one of our plates was just full of bones and shells and could have been taken away which would have made room for the shrimp. They were also over cooked and rubbery. Throughout our meal, no one came to check on us once. At the end of the meal, I used my own hand sanitizing wipes and was a little puzzled that they don't give any to customers. We got the bill and were a little peeved that they charged us $3 to butterfly the branzino. We weren't told about that and we didn't particularly ask for them to butterfly it. There's individual hand wipes by the stairs and it's odd that staff don't bring them to you once you're ready to pay. Are customers expected to walk around with dirty hands to go grab the wipe by the stairs? It's definitely a one time experience and overall, I wouldn't recommend it for the poor service and seafood being overcooked and underwhelming.

IDK if the sides have been this size pre-NYTimes, but they are extremely small (6" diameter plate) for $6.99. There is lots of olive oil drizzle on top of things, take note if you're limiting oil. The bread that came with it was either overcooked - or it might have been the typical style? It was EXTREMELY leathery & almost dark tan pita-cracker like. I ate it with the meal but got extremely tired of chewing. Not sure if you can ask for free refills of bread. A google search for "Egyptian bread" shows some decent Soft puffy pita. There was a case with drinks: soda, mango juice, mediterranean fruit juice, maybe beer? The seafood was VERY fresh. Scallops large, very Lightly seasoned with a reddish seasoning. Was just slightly underdone for me but still good. The Tiger Shrimp was Excellent & cooked perfectly. It comes sitting on top of a pool of oil and seasonings/parsley, but the flavor wasn't strong enough for me to make out. I'm not sure what Egyptian seasoning for seafood is or should taste like; it wasn't very noticeable on the items that I ordered. Seems like the freshness of all the dishes were the focus. Staff is nice & attentive. The owner was at the table next to me putting in weekend orders. Chatted with him about a new café on the block. A few solo diners come in casually & seemed familiar with the place. Glad I tried it, but probably wouldn't go back because of the price point.

I'm so glad we did. It was wonderful. Some of the best greek food i've ever had. The service was lovely. Thank you to Daniel. My friends and I ordered a bunch of stuff on the menu and it was absolutely wonderful. There is also very delicious complementary dessert. It is a small restaurant so it's very tight. Everyone is kind of crushed together. The food is a bit on the expensive side but absolutely worth it. I can't wait to come back one day. Amazing experience with wonderful food and service!

The fried anchovies arrived absolutely drenched in oil, it honestly seemed like it hadn't been properly drained or allowed to sit to let the excess oil run off. The side of potatoes we got was the same story. Drenched in oil. The GRILLED (not fried) fish was even more disappointing. It came sitting in literally A PUDDLE of oil, which completely took away from what should have been a fresh, relatively light fish meal. There were quite a few bones also on the fish. On top of that, our waiter disappeared without notice, and when we were finally ready to pay, we had to wait a long time just to get the check and settle the bill. The fish itself was fresh, but unfortunately, the overall experience did not justify the price or the wait. After waiting over two hours, I expected much better.

OG spot, but the food was very mediocre. The restaurant has a classic ambiance, but the execution…read moreof the dishes needs work. We had a few misses: The Eggplant and Salty Fish (2/5) the eggplant wasn't cooked long enough to achieve that desired soft texture, and the salty fish was overwhelmingly, salty. The Sweet and Sour Pork Chop (3/5) had potential, but each piece was sliced too thin and over fried, making the whole thing unnecessarily crispy instead of tender. The Fish Maw Soup (3/5) lacked the depth of flavor we were hoping for. Chicken fried rice (2.5/5): tasted like what you would expect, Americanized fried rice The Highlights: The Mayo Shrimp (3.5/5) was a better dish; we appreciated the nice crispiness, and it was an interesting take to serve the mayo on the side. The Snow Peas with Garlic (4/5) was perfectly executed, fresh and garlicky, a simple but standout veggie dish. FYI: cash only

But tucked away on 34th Street, Off the Hook Raw Bar & Grill proves that some things are worth it. Years later, the truth remains unchanged: this sanctuary delivers a masterclass in cozy warmth and absolute culinary respect. The lobster mac and cheese is a decadent triumph--rich and loaded. But the real revelation is the skirt steak. It carries a deeply seasoned, char-grilled crust that locks in a perfect, juicy interior. It is, without exaggeration, one of the the best damn skirt steaks you will ever encounter in this city. Decor (4.25/5): It's a small, intimate room that hits you with a cozy, effortlessly cool vibe. It also has the small outdoor patio tucked away in the back--a perfect, low-lit refuge for a summer night in Queens. Customer Service (4.5/5): The staff is exceptional. They are welcoming, professional, and move with a hospitality that keeps the room's energy completely relaxed. Food Rating (5/5): Flawless execution. The skirt steak is dialed in to absolute perfection every single time, and the lobster mac stands alone at the top of its class. Price: Around $65 per person. Worth every penny--just prepare to battle for a spot on the asphalt if you drive.
