My dad is Egyptian, so food like this carries real meaning for our family, and Sabrys delivered in every way. The moment we walked in, we were met with the kind of warmth and hospitality that makes you feel like a guest of honor. They treat everyone that way, which makes it even more special. The meal began with fresh housemade bread, incredible hummus, baba ganoush, and salad, and then came the fish. Honestly, the best fish I've ever had, and we've dined at wonderful restaurants all over the country. We ordered the grilled platter with calamari, shrimp, and salmon, plus a fried combo that was light and perfectly done. Not greasy, just real home cooking, like your Egyptian grandmother made it. The branzino was outstanding, and the rice brought me straight back to childhood. Every dish tasted like it was made with genuine love and care, because it was. Being honest, it's been a while since I have returned because I have favored Hamido Seafood lately, right after a previous love affair with Abuqir Seafood two doors down. Then there is the old reliable Astoria Seafood and the new kid on the block, Le Petite Pecheur, which I really enjoy as well. However, once again, Sabry's proves again that they have the best pitas in the business. A full basket comes with fluffy and chewy goodness that none of their competitors can match. I do wish their dips (babaganoush, humus, tahini) were better as I have mentioned, but they are all solid 7's. Onto the seafood. What an excellent version of Grilled Octopus (9/10), with maybe the best crispy char I have tasted in recent memory. I do wish the sauce had a touch of vinegar. Not a big deal. Another near perfect dish was their Grilled Sea Scallops (9/10). They were extra large, super tender, sitting in a pool of delicious tangy sauce (reminiscent of NoLa style BBQ shrimp sauce). The Grilled Shrimps (7/10) were slightly overcooked, while the Taojine Mixed (7/10) was somewhat watery and a bit too dill forward. Lastly, the broth of the Seafood Soup (7/10) was clean and light. The calamri and clams were still tender, but the shrimps were a tad overcooked once again. Clearly after this meal, I have to add Sabry's back into my rotation of pick your own seafood type of restaurants. This was the place where I had my first experience with Egyptian style seafood and it is still one of the best after all these years. read more

Visited on 3-29-2026 I took my Dad out to lunch for a belated 80th birthday. His older brother & my cousin joined us. This is a perfect example how you have to travel outside your normal area because obviously Egyptian seafood is a big thing in Astoria, Queens. Steinway Street is loaded with many options to have a good meal. Meanwhile, we live in Suffolk County and I have not had the pleasure of enjoying Egyptian seafood anywhere in Nassau or Suffolk. In short. WE LOVED IT! Walking in, we were greeted warmly by the staff. And our waiter was awesome and I believe it was the owner who came to check by the table. He was very funny & personable. They made us feel very welcome there. Like old friends. My uncle & I shared the Seafood combo for 2. A whole lobster, lots of Calamari & Shrimp & a Fish Filet. My Dad had the Butterflied Branzino. We wanted to try the same type of restaurant down the street but they didn't open on time, so we gave this one a try and what a pleasant surprise. The personnel working there made us feel right at home with a nice dining area that we were seated at. I had the butterflied grilled Branzino with a special lemon butter sauce that was the best I ever had,excellent. Our party also ordered the seafood combination for two that they said was amazing. It had a whole lobster, shrimp, fish, scallops and calamari. The shrimp scampi I had a taste of was absolutely delicious. Lovely place with lovely people. We walked in on a Friday night at 6pm, and there were tables available with no wait. We ordered the seafood sample for two, and it came with a great assortment of lobster, fillet, scallop, shrimp, and squid. The sauce was delicious and they left the whole lobster so you could scoop the brains out which added even more flavor. Every meal comes with a complementary pita and salad. The grilled branzino was cooked to perfection--crispy on the outside, tender and flaky on the inside, with amazing flavor. The dishes were overall okay but nothing impressive that would make me want to go back. The best thing was the pan seared scallops and fresh bread. The clam dish was extremely salty and not enjoyable. The grilled fish was not that tasty and a bit dry in some parts. The dishes are pretty pricey for what you get. I was overall pretty disappointed in this meal. Service: Service was also just okay. The staff don't really come to check on you throughout the meal. Went for a dinner with my brothers on a Monday evening and had an amazing time here. Kind of small so i could imagine it gets packed quickly on busy days, but we had no issues this time. Started with their seafood soup, absolutely appetizing and excites the stomach before the main dishes. This one is a must have every time I visit. Comes with shrimps, squid, mussels or clams, onions, in a savory tomato broth. One order can be shared with the table, for 4 of us we ordered 2 because the boys were hungry, but I imagine 3-4 can share one order of soup. Additional appetizers were baba ghanoush, hummus and their crisp house salad with fresh pita. Mains were the sardines, lightly fried. Branizino butterflied with the garlic lemon sauce. Stumbled across this place on my first night of a 4 day trip to NY. Went there intentionally my last day. Unbelievable all the way around! Service and ambiance were exceptional. Obviously a place for locals and enjoyed the people watching. The food, THE FOOD, however, blew us away. Fresh whole fish on display in ice, live lobsters crawling around the display, and the largest head-on shrimp I have ever eaten that I personally picked out to have cooked, along with a whole perfectly seasoned red snapper, and melt-in-your mouth eggplant with tomato. Plus some very large and juicy clams in a garlic butter sauce that you want to scoop up with a spoon! Ok so I've literally been coming here every single Saturday and Sunday for dinner ever since I first tried this restaurant. It's literally the best seafood I've ever had in my life. Doesn't compare to any other spot. If I had one last meal on earth it would be the branzino babaganoush and eggplant here!!! I love how fast the food comes out But my absolute favorite part is that the portions are huge the size of the fish is always generous and much more value compared to anywhere in the city. This was a fantastic and authentic meal. Things started out wonderful as we found metered street parking right in front of the restaurant. Sabry's has a very warm and inviting front with ample seating options both outside and indoors. We got a beautiful welcome from the owner Yasser who seated us outside in the sunny and 74 degree gorgeousness. Almost immediately came the glasses of water along with sliced lemon and a smiling waiter with the menus. We opted for three appetizers ( the mixed green salad, the babaganoush and the eggplant in tomato sauce). Babaganouush - well done, bursting w flavor. Mixed salad - fresh, crispy and lovely w lemon. Eggplant - fried n yummy in this nice tomato sauce. The complimentary warm bread basket was timed perfectly with these appetizers. The Sabry's platter ( grilled) with the calamari, salmon and shrimp was simply fantastic. Seasoned so well and a big portion ample for two after the appetizers served with the tasty brown rice. The vibe was just beautiful. The restaurant was packed at 4:45 pm; the energy was good with families enjoying laughs plus some delicious fare. I brought my 16 yo son and he thoroughly enjoyed the meal: we ordered the fried calamari, mint hot tea and the seafood platter for two which came with two sides. We also good a complimentary salad and bread to start. It's Tuesday and I was just here on Saturday with my friends for dinner, that's how good it is. On Saturday my friends and I ordered the fried sardines, seafood platter, a type of spinach soup with shrimp, and baba ghanoush and everything was amazing! Striped bass (priced based on current market rates) is a go-to, but when that isn't available, branzino is also good. Side dishes that come with an order of grilled fish (salad, rice) are a good portion to share between two people, but the star of the show is their flatbread (baked fresh on-premises) that also comes with the meal. (Be careful, it may come to you straight from the oven and be puffed up and full of hot steam--give it a minute.) A grilled octopus appetizer that my wife wanted to try was a highlight of our recent visit. I didn't know octopus could be that tender! We rounded out our meal with hot mint tea, which smelled and tasted wonderful. Whenever I eat at Sabry's, I feel like I did something good for my health--no after-meal regret--and I look forward to returning. If you like seafood, it's definitely worth a visit. My husband and I recently had lunch at Sabry's and thought it was pretty tasty overall. The seafood is obviously very fresh, and we loved the crispy hot pita bread and babaganoush. We shared the octopus, which was very tender and flavorful. My husband got the grilled shrimp, which he enjoyed (particularly the sauce and seasoning). I had the lobster, which I thought would be simply grilled, but it came with seasoning that I wasn't that fond of, but others may like. If I got it again, I would ask for it plain with just some lemon. Also, because it was grilled, the lobster meat stuck to the inside of the shell and was a bit difficult to remove, even with a shell cracker and picks, because it was a hard shelled lobster.
