Greeted by the server, then we walked over to the fish selection area and scouted what we wanted. Our server directed us to which item we will enjoy so we let him bless us with the best fish he had in mind. Started with their seafood soup, absolutely appetizing and excites the stomach before the main dishes. This one is a must have every time I visit. Comes with shrimps, squid, mussels or clams, onions, in a savory tomato broth. One order can be shared with the table, for 4 of us we ordered 2 because the boys were hungry, but I imagine 3-4 can share one order of soup. Additional appetizers were baba ghanoush, hummus and their crisp house salad with fresh pita. Mains were the sardines, lightly fried. Branizino butterflied with the garlic lemon sauce. Visited on 3-29-2026 I took my Dad out to lunch for a belated 80th birthday. His older brother & my cousin joined us. This is a perfect example how you have to travel outside your normal area because obviously Egyptian seafood is a big thing in Astoria, Queens. Steinway Street is loaded with many options to have a good meal. Meanwhile, we live in Suffolk County and I have not had the pleasure of enjoying Egyptian seafood anywhere in Nassau or Suffolk. We wanted to try the same type of restaurant down the street but they didn't open on time, so we gave this one a try and what a pleasant surprise. The personnel working there made us feel right at home with a nice dining area that we were seated at. I had the butterflied grilled Branzino with a special lemon butter sauce that was the best I ever had,excellent. Our party also ordered the seafood combination for two that they said was amazing. It had a whole lobster, shrimp, fish, scallops and calamari. The shrimp scampi I had a taste of was absolutely delicious. Lovely place with lovely people. We walked in on a Friday night at 6pm, and there were tables available with no wait. We ordered the seafood sample for two, and it came with a great assortment of lobster, fillet, scallop, shrimp, and squid. The sauce was delicious and they left the whole lobster so you could scoop the brains out which added even more flavor. Every meal comes with a complementary pita and salad. The trinity of these types of restaurants are Sabry's, Abuqir Seafood, and Hamido Seafood. I have experienced all of them many times over the years because they are amazing. Now, after visiting all three again recently, it's time to finally review them. There is a special place in my heart for Sabry's because it was my first experience of Egyptian seafood more than a decade ago. It's a testament to their success that they are still a neighborhood gem after all these years. I know this is a seafood restaurant, but I gotta start with the fabulous pitas that come out soft and pillowy, with a fantastic chew. Not close, absolutely the best amongst the three restaurants. It was so good, we reordered more plates of their hummus, baba ganoush, and eggplant moussaka just so we could eat more bread. All the spreads were good, but nothing special until it touches the awesome pita. Their seafood combo for two is well priced for so much treasures of the sea. Sadly, the lobster was just a tad overcooked imho, but still tasty overall. The large platter also included two filets of talapia, which was done well, as were the few scallops that were included. Shrimp and calamari were plentiful and pretty good. Btw, the sauce for all this seafood was delicious. As for the baby shark taojine, it was decent, but the flavor was the weakest of the three restaurants. The blacken bronzino, on the other hand, may have been the best in comparison. Regardless, the piping hot delicious pita alone will undoubtedly bring me back. With that said, I would have to rate Sabry's as my least favorite of the three based on the seafood. read more

The dishes were overall okay but nothing impressive that would make me want to go back. The best thing was the pan seared scallops and fresh bread. The clam dish was extremely salty and not enjoyable. The grilled fish was not that tasty and a bit dry in some parts. The dishes are pretty pricey for what you get. I was overall pretty disappointed in this meal. Service: Service was also just okay. The staff don't really come to check on you throughout the meal. They do add tip to the bill automatically regardless of your party size. Ambiance: The restaurant is a good size and can accommodate both small and large groups. They have outdoor seating as well. Ok so I've literally been coming here every single Saturday and Sunday for dinner ever since I first tried this restaurant. It's literally the best seafood I've ever had in my life. Doesn't compare to any other spot. If I had one last meal on earth it would be the branzino babaganoush and eggplant here!!! I love how fast the food comes out But my absolute favorite part is that the portions are huge the size of the fish is always generous and much more value compared to anywhere in the city. This was a fantastic and authentic meal. Things started out wonderful as we found metered street parking right in front of the restaurant. Sabry's has a very warm and inviting front with ample seating options both outside and indoors. We got a beautiful welcome from the owner Yasser who seated us outside in the sunny and 74 degree gorgeousness. Almost immediately came the glasses of water along with sliced lemon and a smiling waiter with the menus. We opted for three appetizers ( the mixed green salad, the babaganoush and the eggplant in tomato sauce). Babaganouush - well done, bursting w flavor. Mixed salad - fresh, crispy and lovely w lemon. Eggplant - fried n yummy in this nice tomato sauce. The complimentary warm bread basket was timed perfectly with these appetizers. The Sabry's platter ( grilled) with the calamari, salmon and shrimp was simply fantastic. Seasoned so well and a big portion ample for two after the appetizers served with the tasty brown rice. The vibe was just beautiful. The restaurant was packed at 4:45 pm; the energy was good with families enjoying laughs plus some delicious fare. Honestly, not impressed. Food was relatively flavorless. Needed salt. Needed spice. We made the mistake of ordering fries - limp, lifeless. Combo for two was an amalgamation of different seafoods, none of which on their own seemed of particularly high quality. The sauce that came with the combo was super underwhelming. Tahini that was suggested as a sauce was an extra cost to my surprise. Rice was bland. Branzino was well prepared. Service was underwhelming. My favorite place to have dinner in Astoria. Their grilled fish is incredible--tender and moist, with a delicious herb crust. Striped bass (priced based on current market rates) is a go-to, but when that isn't available, branzino is also good. Side dishes that come with an order of grilled fish (salad, rice) are a good portion to share between two people, but the star of the show is their flatbread (baked fresh on-premises) that also comes with the meal. (Be careful, it may come to you straight from the oven and be puffed up and full of hot steam--give it a minute.) A grilled octopus appetizer that my wife wanted to try was a highlight of our recent visit. I didn't know octopus could be that tender! We rounded out our meal with hot mint tea, which smelled and tasted wonderful. Whenever I eat at Sabry's, I feel like I did something good for my health--no after-meal regret--and I look forward to returning. If you like seafood, it's definitely worth a visit. My husband and I recently had lunch at Sabry's and thought it was pretty tasty overall. The seafood is obviously very fresh, and we loved the crispy hot pita bread and babaganoush. We shared the octopus, which was very tender and flavorful. My husband got the grilled shrimp, which he enjoyed (particularly the sauce and seasoning). I had the lobster, which I thought would be simply grilled, but it came with seasoning that I wasn't that fond of, but others may like. If I got it again, I would ask for it plain with just some lemon. Also, because it was grilled, the lobster meat stuck to the inside of the shell and was a bit difficult to remove, even with a shell cracker and picks, because it was a hard shelled lobster.
