Best Greek restaurant I've had to date! Ambiance (5/5): There are a few tables inside where the decorations are white/blue to the classic décor style of Greek restaurants. There's also plenty of outdoor patio seating with cute vine/florals draped along the seating area. A little dark with the dim lighting when we dined in the evening. Service (5/5): We arrived around 8p on a Sunday evening and it was jammed packed. They had an opening right when we arrived which was super lucky. They were attentive throughout our experience. We were glad that the server's recommendations to # of plates was proportional to our needs. Food (5/5): every single dish was outstanding! The starter was a complementary hummus with the softest, moist, pita bread. I could've easily eaten this and been happy. Our favorite was the baked Halloumi with honey, fig jam and cranberries. The exterior had a nice crust from the caramelized honey. It was rich but paired well with the table pita (which they kindly refilled!!) The next item was Shieftalia pork kebabs which seems so easy but was filled with flavor from the onions and herbs. It paired well with the yogurt sauce. Lastly, we had the baked eggplant (almost reminded me of a Greek version of eggplant parm), this lacked a little flavor but still very good. Wish this dish had a bit more spice. Cute Greek restaurant in Astoria! Decor inside was nice. Each table gets complimentary hummus and pita which was a nice touch. Service was pretty good as well. We ended up offering a Greek salad, spanakopita balls, zucchini fried balls, and then the large seafood platter which came with two sides. Everything was super tasty and the seafood was cooked to perfection. Platter came with octopus, grilled calamari, Grilled salmon, and grilled shrimp. As Astoria becomes considerably less Greek (#1), it's places like Aliada that keep the ethnic enclave alive. Specializing in Greek and Cypriot cuisine, they have managed to stick around for the better part of two decades. The date night vibes are quite evident, given how intimate the space is. They've done a good job with the lighting and have made the interior worthy for all group sizes. The outdoor patio dining would be perfect on a spring day, Their strength lies in the food, in which close to each dish is beautifully presented. An immediate go-to would be their makaronia tou fournou, aka Cypriot pastitsio, which looks sort of like a meat based pie with pasta in it. The baked halloumi is visually not the most exciting, but is an excellent appetizer and certainly better than the usual saganaki. Their shieftalia is a series of Cypriot style pork sausage and is one of their most underrated dishes. Folks who can rock the pork should absolutely try it. Start off the meal with their dips sampler, which includes my all-time favorite dip: taramasalata (#2). Most people will recommend the bronzino, but I think their chargrilled octopus is just as deserving as any dish. Service has been a mixed bag in the past, especially when it came to takeout orders for some reason. Recommendations from what we tried: Shieftalia, Makaronia tou Fournou, Koupepia, and Horiatiki. In short, stick with mezzes. I found out about this Cypriot/Greek spot a while ago through the IG account TasteBuds and checked it out with one of my food groups a couple of weeks ago. The servers were friendly, and the inside, while dark, felt warm and comforting, which was especially true as I had just come in from a storm. To drink, I had a cold brew cocktail for around $18 that I can't find on the current menu. Outside of the cold brew, there was an anise/coffee liquor (I believe Sifonios Ouzo Coffee Liqueur), some type of citrus, and possibly something else, and it was very tasty. They gave us some warm bread along with, I believe, a soft fava bean spread or hummus while we were waiting for food. In terms of food, I loved the mezze here, but I prefer some other places in Astoria for fish/seafood. As the menu didn't have the Tomato Salad listed online, we instead got their version of Horiatiki/Greek Village Salad for $19 with cucumber, tomatoes, green bell peppers, red onions, barrel-aged feta cheese, and Kalamata olives. The salad had a nice block of good feta, and the tomatoes were very juicy. Overall, it was a bit better than the typical spot in the neighborhood, and we enjoyed it. Next to arrive was my favorite dish of the night, the $17 Shieftalia, listed as a traditional Cypriot sausage made of minced pork, chopped onions, fresh herbs, and spices wrapped in caul fat and grilled over live fire. The dish came with four large pieces topped with some tomatoes, with some tzatziki on the side. The sausages were very juicy and had a wonderful grilled flavor with mild spices and herbs. This was outstanding, and I highly recommend it. Another excellent dish was the Makaronia tou Fournou for $25, listed as Cypriot baked pasta with herbed meat sauce, grated halloumi cheese, and creamy bechamel sauce. It reminded me to an extent of Pastitsio, but almost more comforting. There was tender pasta, slightly salty cheese, and a rich bechamel that tied the whole thing together. The warming spices, which were presumably mixed into the meat, added new depth to the overall flavor. As described, it's a bit of a wait for this dish, but it was very much worth it. Another tasty dish was the $17 Koupepia, their version of Dolmades, listed as Cypriot vine leaves stuffed with ground pork, rice, and fresh herbs, wrapped in grape leaves, and cooked in a fresh tomato lemon broth. I preferred these over the Greek variety because the grape leaves were more tender, less overly sour, and warm. I would recommend these as well. The only mezze I disliked, mostly because of the price point, was the Shrimp Santorini for $22, listed as succulent shrimp in aromatic tomato feta sauce. The shrimp were cooked properly, and the sauce was delicious, but there weren't that many shrimp. It was good, but I would recommend spending your money on their other equally excellent mezze. Otherwise, we got two decent mains, each with a side. First was the $26 Soutzoukakia, listed as Greek baked meatballs cooked in homemade tomato sauce and served on a bed of rice with Greek yogurt and feta cheese sauce. The sauce had some cinnamon with a mild sweetness, while the meatballs were a bit less tender than the sausages. The rice was otherwise plentiful and well-cooked. There was also the Dorado Royale, or Mediterranean Sea Bream, which was $44 for 800 grams. I have had more tender and flavorful fish from a few other places nearby, but it was nice that it was butterflied without bones, outside of the head and tail, of course. For sides, I chose the Sautéed Mushrooms, which are normally $16, and the Horta, or boiled greens with Greek olive oil and lemon, which is normally $15. The mushrooms had some grilled onions and peppers, and it was a nice mix overall. The later horta, made from the typical dandelion greens, I believe, had a bit of bitterness, which went well with the other richer dishes. Overall, both mains and sides were good, but I preferred the other things. This was a very tasty place and a good replacement for an old Cypriot spot on Ditmars that closed a good while ago. Would go back to probably get their $60 mezze sampler, or just try more things from that menu. read more

Exceptional Greek food and service! My girlfriend and I have been here 3 times and it's better and better each time. We love ordering the fish Meze and it's so much food. Have been wanting to try this for a while. I would say it's a pretty nice vibe, kinda feels like Greece on a random Astoria street. Service was good, they let us take our time and finish our food. Onto the food, it was pretty good. We got one of the white fishes and it went well with the capers and olive oil. They started us off with complimentary pita (came hot!) And hummus. - Calamari app was my favorite thing here. This is my third time here. I highly recommend this place if you want quality Greek food! They serve fresh hummus and pita. The octopus as a starter was delicious. I also like the Mousaka- it's like a soft Greek lasagna but no pasta just ground meat and cream and eggplant. Also recommend the cocktails - the Le Mon was perfect- a vodka lemonade with just the right amount of alcohol. They sat us outside in their heated area and it was a warm November night. I asked for the heater to be turned off as it was directly above my seat. They were very considerate. They immediately served us up some free bread and yellow lentil(?) dip. This was good! Also just gotta love a free bread sitch. 1. Greek salad: I've had many Greek salads, but for some reason this hits different. The dolmas that came on top were outstanding- probably one of the best ones I've had. Exquisite juicy tomatoes. Yum. 2. Grilled octopus: damn. I don't know how they got it this tender. Great char on the outside and so soft on the inside. Not chewy at all. Damn this was good. 3. Chicken kebab: this was probably a bit of a letdown. The chicken was tough and overcooked. Expected much more since one knows how the Greeks can grill their meats well. The tzatziki sauce on the side was good though. 4. Roasted Greek veg: free side with the chicken. This was a generous portion for a side and really good. Chunks of aubergine, potatoes, etc. stewed in a tomato sauce. Overall, food was great (save for the chicken which was overcooked). Growing up eating Greek food, I was really interested in trying their (Alissa Restaurant) food after positive reviews on YELP. It's a nice place with a good atmosphere. The staff are really nice and helpful, they are a 5 out of 5. That said, is the food fresh - Yes, but that's it... lacks flavor (OMG, add a little salt) and BTW .. Oregano is a thing in Mediterranean food which was completely forgotten. I am really disappointed... especially for a place that is local. Went here for an anniversary and had the best time! Everything was amazing! We had the Chef's Mezze Experience and it was definitely worth it because of the great food and variety of Greek dishes! We went for dinner on a warmer night in March and sat in their covered outdoor area. The ambiance made us feel like we were having dinner on a warm greek summer. They had olive trees and white tables which made it feel nice and bright. It requires at least 2 people to participate and it was definitely more than enough food to make the both of us full! We started with a greek salad, 5 spreads and some beets and olives. The pita was soft and warm and our favorite dip was the whipped feta with red peppers, but this experience allowed m to try things like a salted and cured roe dip which I surprisingly enjoyed. We then had multiple dishes consisting of fries, grilled octopus, different sausages, and hen. The grilled octopus and hen was perfectly cooked and our favorites. The drinks are also really good and I appreciate their large variety of greek wines along with multiple organic choices. The service here is also really amazing. They are helpful through the menu if you are not familiar with all of the dishes. They realized we were celebrating something provided us shots of ouzo on the house. A great find in an area with lots of good Greek options. The ambiance is classy but unpretentious, the service is great without feeling hovered over, and the food was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and well plated. We started off with a Greek (horiatiki) salad and shared a halloumi dish to start (one of our favorite cheeses). Wow - Greek food and hospitality is top notch here! We dined outdoors with our beagle today and from the moment we arrived, we were treated with a smile and great service. The staff gave our dog a bowl of water immediately and asked what type of water we preferred. The server was prompt to stop by our table and the timing of the food (free starter - drinks - appetizer - main course) was perfect! One of the staff members saw we were a bit cramped on one side and moved the planter stand. The food here is incredible and I cannot believe we just found out about them. It really took us back to Greece, most especially the chargrilled octopus! There is not one complaint I have about this place and highly recommend stopping by. Everything about this place was terrific, except for one thing which wasn't their fault. The wait staff was superb, always checking on us and never rushing us. Very personable also. We all loved our food which was presented well and had decent sized portions. The place itself was small and we sat in the additional, enclosed area, but it wasn't loud and there was more than enough room. The only bad part was the parking. Street parking and it took me fifteen anxiety filled minutes to find a spot. It took my friend twenty five minutes. You know you've picked the right Greek restaurant when you look around and realize everyone is speaking Greek! Aliada is the perfect spot for great Greek food and really good service. We went on a Sunday evening without reservation and thankfully didn't have to wait long, but given how popular they are a reservation is recommended. I got branzino which was fresh and perfectly cooked without being too oily. And they give you an option to choose between two sizes of fish, and 600g is perfect for one or even for sharing between two. I'm not the biggest fan of "market price" pricing, so it was a plus that Aliada's menu has everything specified.
