This might be the best Greek place I've been to. Perhaps, others have better dishes for certain things but overall Greek, this is up there. They start you off with warm pita bread which is delicious. I think you can ask for me as needed. The highlights were the dips and the pork chop with apple glaze I think. I was particularly surprised by the potato one since it usually taste like mashed potatoes but here it actually taste like a garlic dip. The roe dip is still my favorite as it usually is. The pork chop I would get again next time. Tender and a sweet glaze. The other dishes were good too but the pork chop was top tier. The carafe of white wine was delicious and I'd get again even though I try to cut down on alcohol. Only thing that I did not like was the galactoboureko which they did say comes from Victory Bakery. Staying in Astoria for the weekend, I knew I'd be eating some Greek food. We got a table near the street, to paraphrase Billy Joel. Even at 7 on a Saturday, we did not need a reservation, although the restaurant did seem to crowd as the night went on. First came a basket of fresh pita bread with some oil and vinegar for dipping. I came to realize that these restaurants give out the pita bread so you'll order a dip for it like tzatziki, or hummus, or eggplant. We ordered the chargrilled octopus to split. I liked the smokiness, but it was a touch dry. I used some of the provided lemon wedges and that did help. But octopus is hard to cook just right, where it's tender. The Greek salad was very refreshing; I needed some veg after all that pizza! Tomatoes, red onions, cucumbers, black olives, triangular pieces of feta cheese over some shredded greens. Good stuff. Service was mostly friendly, though I would say the waiter around us was nicer than the one we actually had. read more

They are very generous with their complimentary pita bread (warm and fluffy... very tasty) - be careful not to eat too much or else you'll get be too full before your meals comes. We were really hungry when we came so we ordered: - mixed dip appetizer (4 different dips) - fava dip - mixed seafood grilled (calamari, octopus, cuttlefish and shrimp) - mixed meat grilled (chicken, beef, sausages) We asked if we could substitute the mixed dip appetizer with fava and was declined so we got fava dip on the side. It was definitely too much food. We had half of the meal to take out for a second meal. Everything was tasty but nothing special. My favorite dip was actually the tzatziki - they had actual strips of sliced cucumbers. It was very refreshing and the texture was great. My favorite item out of the mixed seafood was the shrimp. Ate here today by myself for lunch during my day off from work as a paraprofessional on Diwali. I had brought ate the avgolemeno (Greek chicken soup), tzatziki dip, pork souvlaki, halloumi (pan fried and grilled cheese) and galaktoboureko (custard cream cake) plus orange Turkish delights that it had tasted really good and delicious. The service there was also attentive, friendly and amazing. The server name was Wilson and he served up my meals very nice, kind and pleasant. I couldn't agree more about it. Located in a quieter section of Astoria; you find this nice, cozy, almost hidden little establishment that has the feel of a family ran restaurant (I dunno if it is family ran). Everyone who helped us was super friendly, knew the menu inside out and made good recommendations when one was needed. I can't say for certain that all they serve is authentic or does it have a twist of fusion, but this is not your run of the mill gyro and souvlaki joint. The apps were all very good. I went completely out of the box by ordering "sweetbreads"; I felt it was very well prepared, but half way through the dish it got a bit monotone (not anyone's fault, guess I just need actual red meat). This is the best Greek restaurant I've been to in the NYC area In terms of the quality of food, service and atmosphere. The restaurant is in a quieter area of Astoria which we liked. The staff were friendly and welcoming. We started with grilled octopus (yummy, tender with the delicious smoky char), fried zucchini, several dips and pita and a Greek salad. We also had a lovely Greek wine. Several of us ordered the lamp chops, which were perfectly done, medium rare. Another person ordered the rib-eye which was amazing. All of the sides were delicious especially the dandelion greens and fried potatoes. The staff made sure our water and wine glasses were filled and checked with us about our appetizers and entrees We were honestly too stuffed for dessert as we demolished everything we ordered. I came to this Greek restaurant recently to take advantage of their lunch special. It was really lovely interior with a calm atmosphere. Upon being seated, I was served tasty warm pita bread, which was nice and soft. For my meal, I ordered the Salmon filet, which came with salad and lemon potato. The Salmon was absolutely delicious! It was more like Salmon steak, as it was quite thick. The Salmon was delightfully tender and flaky, juicy, well seasoned with pepper, along with tasty herbs. The edges were slightly crispy, which is how I prefer it. The lemon potato was cooked perfectly and wonderfully flavorful. The salad consisted of fresh cucumber, tomato, red onion and gave the dish an enjoyable crunchy element. For dessert, the waitress offered me complimentary Turkish delights, and called me sweet. This was a sticky, sugary, jelly like treat. Service was solid. The waitress was friendly and attentive. The lunch special at this restaurant is an excellent deal! Our waitress kindly sat me and my husband down right away even though our total party of 6 was coming in slowly. Throughout our meal she was very attentive and gave off a very positive energy. I'd rate Loukoumi four and a half stars. Fantastic neighborhood Greek spot. I wish all neighborhoods had a cozy Greek place like this. We walked in with friends on New Year's Day and were seated immediately. We started with the Greek salad and the four dips platter. The platter was a hit. It had tzatziki, taramasalata, babaghanoush, and a creamy potato dip. The creamy potato dip also came with the fried zucchini chips. The chips had a thicker but non-greasy fry to them. Light crisp and held together really well. Another table favorite was the grilled octopus. Perfect seasoning and an excellent char. Texture of the octopus came out exactly as I like. One of the better grilled octopus dishes that I recall having. For the main course, we shared the branzino. Grilled and filleted. Grill was done well. Most of the skin came out crispy. Branzino was tender and juicy. I liked the lemon based flavoring. They served the branzino with a side of lemon potatoes and crispy fried potatoes (circular French fries). I'm not usually a fan of lemon potatoes from Greek spots as they usually come at overdone, but the tenderness of these came out on point. Topped with some salt and black pepper. The crispy potatoes were solid too. The branzino was filleted perfectly. I didn't come across a single bone in the body of the fish. We skipped on dessert but the only option was a slice of vanilla custard cake. En route to the bathroom, I investigated the whiskey selection at the bar. A fun and random variety. Certainly had the feel of a home bar. The offering will probably vary from time to time but a few that stood out to me were the Woodford Double Oaked, a 9 year Lagavulin, some Oban, and a lineup from Glenfiddich. There was only one gender neutral restroom which always seemed to be occupied even though the restaurant was half full. Service was friendly, helpful, and attentive. Loukoumi was a restaurant trying to be Greek but the foods were not Greek tasting. The server was excellent even though he was not Greek he spoke Greek well. The Tigania with pork and sausage needs work. The pork was very tough and chewy not how Tigania is suppose to be. The sausage ( loukaniko) was tasty. The sweet breads were the best thing we ordered. Very soft and tasty. We also like the zucchini chips. Very crispy and the skordalia was very good. If I want authentic Greek food I would probably not visit again. read more

Nestled a little's walk away from the normal Astoria bustle, upon some friend's recs, we opted to try for Loukoumi's. It is Greek which I find often leans a little pricier, but Loukoumi's does deliver in flavor. Mediterranean dips rarely disappoint so we got the Pikilia Spread which came with 4 different dips. I had only had tzatziki before, so it was fascinating to try Tarawa, Skordalia, and Melitzanosalata. The pita bread that was complimentary was the perfect side for the dips. When we asked for more, the pita that came out was warmer and fresher which made the appetizer even better. We also got a combination of meats and mussels saganaki which made a good meal, and we had a lot of leftovers for 2 of people. Service was good. Was the food outstanding? I don't know how this restaurant got any reviews higher than 2 stars based on their food. Positives- friendly staff and nice decor. Fried calamari appetizer was good and the feta in the Greek salad was tasty. Loukaniko sausage was good as well and so was the fried cheese. Negatives - the lemon potatoes were a disgrace. They looked like the skins were rubbed off with an abrasive rag and the person gave up before the task was complete. Also there was no lemon flavor to speak of and they were dry enough to choke a donkey. None, and by none I mean ZERO. Fried fish didn't seem fresh and was lacking in flavor. I suspect they were in cryogenic storage for at least a decade. Shrimp saganaki was flavorful but for the price THREE shrimps is unacceptable. At most Greek restaurants you get a heaping platter of sliced fried zucchini per order, but here you get 5. So as not to bore with endless repetition the food was for the most part aggressively bland and unremarkable, and that's before you consider the higher than industry standard pricing. Blindfold yourself and throw a dart at a map of Astoria and you will find FAR superior Greek food, and probably for cheaper. read more

So, I have been to other Greek restaurant in the area and none of them compare to this place. First of all, the service is excellent. Second of all, there is no long wait like other greek restaurants nearby. Third, the food is absolutely delicious! Appetizers: the Cyprus salad is my favorite.
