Another 5 star experience at Loukoumi. A huge spread and a bottle of wine makes for a great time. Earnest remembered us from our February anniversary visit and helped us curate the perfect order. We love Loukoumi and will be back!

Nice ambiance and friendly service. They have a very extensive menu. They are very generous with their complimentary pita bread (warm and fluffy... very tasty) - be careful not to eat too much or else you'll get be too full before your meals comes. We were really hungry when we came so we ordered: - mixed dip appetizer (4 different dips) - fava dip - mixed seafood grilled (calamari, octopus, cuttlefish and shrimp) - mixed meat grilled (chicken, beef, sausages) We asked if we could substitute the mixed dip appetizer with fava and was declined so we got fava dip on the side. It was definitely too much food. We had half of the meal to take out for a second meal. Everything was tasty but nothing special. My favorite dip was actually the tzatziki - they had actual strips of sliced cucumbers. It was very refreshing and the texture was great. My favorite item out of the mixed seafood was the shrimp. My favored out of the mixed meat was the sausage. I really like all the sample platter options they have for indecisive people like me who just want to try everything.

Ate here today by myself for lunch during my day off from work as a paraprofessional on Diwali. I had brought ate the avgolemeno (Greek chicken soup), tzatziki dip, pork souvlaki, halloumi (pan fried and grilled cheese) and galaktoboureko (custard cream cake) plus orange Turkish delights that it had tasted really good and delicious. The service there was also attentive, friendly and amazing. The server name was Wilson and he served up my meals very nice, kind and pleasant. I couldn't agree more about it. Finally, I would definitely eat and come back again next time! :)

Came here for dinner - didn't make reservations. The octopus was so delicious - highly recommend. I'm glad we ordered the dip spread - plenty of fresh warm pita bread. The halumi and feta patty was ok.

We were looking for a good Greek meal and we were pleasantly surprised to have wonderful service and food. The hostess, owner and waitstaff were attentive to us. The restaurant was getting filled, our reservation was ready for us to arrive. We enjoyed the fresh melitzanosalta & Greek salad to begin, delicious entrees pictured. Highly recommend and would go when in the neighborhood again!

Went here for lunch with the family and it was great! I would definitely reccommend the seafood platter! The stuffed pepper was wonderful. We also had the mixed grilled meat which was ok. The service was on point! Everyone was wonderful

Located in a quieter section of Astoria; you find this nice, cozy, almost hidden little establishment that has the feel of a family ran restaurant (I dunno if it is family ran). Everyone who helped us was super friendly, knew the menu inside out and made good recommendations when one was needed. I can't say for certain that all they serve is authentic or does it have a twist of fusion, but this is not your run of the mill gyro and souvlaki joint. The apps were all very good. I went completely out of the box by ordering "sweetbreads"; I felt it was very well prepared, but half way through the dish it got a bit monotone (not anyone's fault, guess I just need actual red meat). The lamb and rabbit stew were also very nice.

Calf liver

It is a neighborhood restaurant, but all the tables were occupied by 7:30pm on a Wednesday night. The restaurant felt warm and inviting. The food was fresh and delicious. Although there were only three servers on the floor, we felt that the service level was good.

On the expensive side but it's for a good reason. We were given free pita bread as an appetizer which is always a plus. My mom and I shared the grilled octopus which was amazing. I got the special of lamb stew which was a generous portion and was divine!

The after! Lol not a crumb left.. so yummy

Lamb chops were amazing, zucchini chips were also very good. Staff is friendly and attentive . Will be coming back!

Saganaki Melitzanosalata
Sarah H.

Chrissa was a joy to talk to. We came for a lunch and had melitzanosalata, saganaki, and chicken souvlaki platters, including a delicious salad. This reminded me of the beautiful taverna meals I had last summer in Greece-- including the music and atmosphere. We drove in from Coney Island and will be back.

Loukoumi Chips

Greek comfort food in a family friendly space. The restaurant is larger than it seems. The menu has a variety of options and each plate seems like it was made by a friend or relative. The Loukoumi Chips were particularly good. The service is helpful and attentive.

If we wanted to get a table in the main dining room, the wait was estimated to be over 2 hours (we went around 8pm), so I highly recommend making a reservation if you plan to go. The staff were very quick with service and very friendly. We were offered toasty bread with some lemon and an olive spread while we waited for our food (which also came out super quick!). We ordered the octopus and lamb chops. The octopus was incredibly tender, the meat was very soft - I personally would've preferred a little more bite to it, but it still tasted good. The lamb chops were flavorful. The medium here is on par with medium rare at most other places, and one of our pieces was borderline rare. At the end of the meal we were also offered complementary desert, which was a pleasant surprise. We enjoyed our meal overall, but just know that it's a little on the pricey. The octopus and lamb chops came out to $80~ pre-tax and tip. Would recommend if you're a fan of seafood!

The octopus was a standout as it is always tender, perfectly grilled, and seasoned simply to let the natural flavors shine. The lamb chops were also a must-order and probably my favorite main dish. I subtracted a star (maybe I should've subtracted more?) for service, because I have never felt so rushed during a meal. We sat down and immediately a waiter came to take our order. We are not regulars, didn't even get a chance to look. When the food came (pretty quickly), he practically threw the plates in front of us. Then he tried to take the dishes away THREE DIFFERENT TIMES when it was very obvious we were not done. (We'd been there barely 30 minutes at this point because I was parked at a meter and was keeping my eye on the clock). The restaurant was half empty for dinner so no one was waiting for our table. I don't know why they were in such a hurry for us to leave. As amazing as the food was, my experience was so bad that I will not be coming back. Maybe this should've been 3.5 stars...

We got in line around 7:30 pm on a Sunday and waited about an hour to order our food and another 20 minutes or so to be seated. You pick all the seafood you want first and how you want it prepared. Once you're seated, you get another menu with appetizers and other cooked dishes. Your seafood gets brought out along with any other dishes you ordered. We were excited to try IBN Hamido and came on a Sunday. There was no wait to be seated (lucky us!)…read moreand we were told to go to the back and to pick out our seafood before picking seats. It's a little overwhelming because there is definitely a lot of seafood to choose from. The fish selection looks fresh but they do have some previously frozen seafood like large prawns and lobster tails. They have the names of everything and the price per pound posted which can be a little intimidating because it's a bit expensive. We ordered a grilled branzino and asked for the large tiger shrimp. The staff behind the counter said it would be the ones without the head but when long at the sign, it said head on tiger shrimp so I was a little confused but we just went with it because we assumed the staff knew what they were talking about. We did also get the head-on large prawns. We asked for everything to be grilled and confirmed that they don't use butter or cheese or cream on anything and then we went upstairs to get a table. Upstairs by the window is nice because you can people watch on a good day. We asked the staff member if there were any butter or cream or cheese in the mezza or rice and she said no, so we proceeded to order those and also asked about the soup of the day. She told us it was a shrimp and corn soup and that sounded good so we ordered that as well. The mezza came and the babaganoush and moussaka were good. The lemon potatos were fine but other places have made it better. The tahini was tahini and nothing special. The soup came and we took a sip and it tasted like cream so we were confused because the staff member didn't mention cream when she was taking about it. We asked about it when another staff member came by to drop off the rice. The original staff member who helped us came back over and we asked her if there was cream in the soup. She told us that yes because it's a chowder and the chowder has dairy and told us that we ordered the soup. I'm not denying that we ordered it. My issue is that we specifically asked about avoiding dairy in other food menu items and she didn't even stop to mention that hey the soup of the day that you want is a shrimp and corn chowder and has dairy. She took it back but I felt like we were inconveniencing her because of her tone. The mains arrived shortly after. The head-on prawns came and then the branzino. The large head-on prawns were overcooked and a little rubbery. The branzino was a touch too lemony but that was probably my fault for squeezing lemon over it. The fish was firm and smooth. There wasn't a lot of flavor on either dish. By this time, our table is pretty full and one of the staff members came by with the tiger shrimp and he more or less just stared at the full table and then plopped the plate down right next to my husband's phone. We barely even had time to move plates around to clean up space for him, but I feel like they should have definitely looked a little harder because one of our plates was just full of bones and shells and could have been taken away which would have made room for the shrimp. They were also over cooked and rubbery. Throughout our meal, no one came to check on us once. At the end of the meal, I used my own hand sanitizing wipes and was a little puzzled that they don't give any to customers. We got the bill and were a little peeved that they charged us $3 to butterfly the branzino. We weren't told about that and we didn't particularly ask for them to butterfly it. There's individual hand wipes by the stairs and it's odd that staff don't bring them to you once you're ready to pay. Are customers expected to walk around with dirty hands to go grab the wipe by the stairs? It's definitely a one time experience and overall, I wouldn't recommend it for the poor service and seafood being overcooked and underwhelming.
