Elliniki/Garden Salad. $17.50. Good but a ton of bell peppers. Would get the agourontomata instead next time
    Glenn C.

I hosted a meal at this tasty Greek restaurant a few months ago with a large group, having been there years ago, back when they were Stamatis. The staff were very friendly and patient, offering recommendations for our large group on food and drink, whether it was wine or otherwise. I believe I had a glass of Assyrtiko, but I'm not sure. We shared a lot of dishes and had a reasonably priced and delicious meal. We got a couple of appetizers to split first. Our first to arrive was the Krya Pikilia, or assorted spreads with taramosalata/a mix of fish roe and potato, tzatziki/Greek yogurt, tyrokafteri/spicy feta, skordalia/potato with garlic, and melintzanosalata/roasted eggplant. This is available in either a small or a large size, and we went with the latter, which was $21 and generously portioned. Some cucumber slices separated the various spreads, and they also served delicious toasted pita for dipping. The group as a whole loved the potato with garlic and the roasted eggplant, which had a nice smoky flavor. The taramosalata wasn't as salty as usual, which was a plus; I liked the spicy feta, though a few others found it a bit too salty; and the yogurt was standard. This was a good mix overall. Our other appetizer was the Elliniki, a salad made with vine tomatoes, cucumbers, romaine, onion, green pepper, kalamata olives, and feta for $17.50 or $14 for the small. This was simple and fresh, but in retrospect, I probably would have preferred the agourontomata due to the large amount of bell peppers, as the best parts were the good-quality feta and the tomatoes, which the latter highlights. It was still pretty good, but I would only recommend it if you like green bell peppers. For main dishes, the place focuses on seafood, and we ordered a few. First was the dish I regrettably couldn't eat due to my cephalopod allergy. This was the Oktapodi Scharas, or octopus grilled and dressed with olive oil and red wine vinegar for $28.75. The dish came with two meatier pieces, as well as one thinner, more grilled section that focused on the tentacle. I could tell by cutting the dish for the table that it was extremely tender, and everyone loved it, with many people also using some of the remaining pita to dip into the very flavorful oil on the bottom. The other seafood dishes were two Psari Scharas, or grilled fish, listed at MP/market price. The waiter went through the various options, and as we were getting some other food, I went with one around a pound and a half and another just over 2 pounds, with the prices at the end being pretty reasonable for the size, from what I recall. They also asked us if we wanted the whole fish or a filet, and we got the former, as many people, including myself, wanted the skin and didn't mind dealing with bones. Our choices were the Tsirpoura, or dorado/gilt-head sea bream, and the Lavraki, or striped bass. Of the two, I preferred the texture and flavor of the lavraki, but both were grilled perfectly. The rest of the main dishes were from the Kreatika Sta Karvouna section, or grilled meats, and all dishes here came with a choice of vegetable, potato, or rice. The surprise hit of the night came from there, the Sykotaki Moscharisio, or calf liver, olive oil, herbs, and lemon for $24.50. The liver was grilled perfectly with a wonderful texture and a very mild offal flavor. For the side, I ordered the Patates Lemonates or lemon potatoes, which were standard. There was also the solid Biftekia, or seasoned and grilled beef patties served with tzatziki and lemon, for $23. This came with three reasonably sized pieces of tender beef. In this case, the vegetable selection was the Fasolakia Yahni, or string beans simmered in tomato sauce, which were good as well. There was finally the Arni Kokkinisto, or baby lamb in tomato sauce, for $23.75. This was the most basic presentation of any of the dishes, with the lamb being tender but not that flavorful, so I probably would get the ground beef version next time. This was partially fixed by the side of Spanakoryzo, or rice pilaf with spinach, which was tasty with a good texture. We also got a bunch of other sides. There was the gigantes, or lima beans baked with onion, tomato, and parsley, which were milder than most spots but still pretty good. The Arakas, or peas in a red pepper-tomato sauce, were fine as well. At the end of the meal, they gave us each a free dessert, which I believe was semolina pudding, or halvas simigdalenios. It had a mild sweetness to it and a slightly gritty texture. A few others didn't like it, but a bunch of us did and happily had their portion as well. This place was reasonable, and the food was high-quality. Combine that with the friendly service, and there are obvious reasons why this spot has been around for so long. I would recommend them if you're looking for a casual Greek spot.

Came here for a weekday lunch and got their grilled branzino, grilled octopus, and lunch special of grilled chicken and salad. The grilled octopus was grilled well, but the star of the meal was their grilled branzino. I wouldn't let them take the platter away until I picked every morsel out. Service was prompt and came to check up on us a couple of times.

Service: 4.1/5 Food: 4.1/5 Price: $$ ($20-30) Came here for a late (8pm) dinner after run club. Not a fancy place with an enforced dress code, however, I did feel underdressed in my gym shorts + tank top. The vibes are more home/family style. Decent sized menu of Mediterranean + Italian dishes with lots of beef options, so that will prevent me from coming back again. Bill came out to be less than I expected, bc they have entree deals including a side + starter bread. What I Ordered: - Souvlaki Hirino: a little tough, surprisingly filling - Veggies: green beans were delicious, however I suspect was made with beef fat - free dessert idk the name of: undecided how I feel about it, cornmeal-y in texture

Classic, filling, affordable, durable, family run, and cozy. This place was the best Greek seafood joint we tried in Astoria, and while it's not the most fancy, it's the best tasting for the price. Loved all the seafood here, and the house wines were quite good. Like a throwback to a simpler time, this place has stood the test of time by being tasty, friendly, and a great value. Food: 5/5 Ambience: 4/5. Simple, cozy, and sometimes crowded. But you know it's popular for a reason Service: 4/5 Value: 5/5

Such a great place to eat. The atmosphere of nice Greek restaurant, super friendly waiter. Delicious food and wine. I can't wait to come back! Amazing place

Came on a red recommendation and worth the visit. Was told that it was a mom and pop serving some of the best Greek style food in the area. Came and ordered some of the classics and was pleasantly pleased. Got a small Greek salad, octopus, baba ghanoush, and Bronzino. Side comes with the fish entrée so we chose the potatoes. Every dish was simple yet perfect. Not too salty or seasoned and well balanced. I would definitely be coming again.

According to Dep Of Health DIRTY(lost the A rating Grade pending sign posted) Over priced. Waiters with major attitudes. I would Take my business somewhere else in Astoria they don't give a dam about me the customer.

My first time dining at this restaurant. I've heard good things and a family member recommended this place as well. So I was there for a lunch on the weekend pretty much when it had just opened. It wasnt busy and our large party was seated right away. We ordered a bunch of dishes family style and everything that came out was delicious. They were very accommodating I will definitely be back.

Classic spot. Great food, great ambiance. All the white feels like you're in Greece. Really enjoyed the wine as well. Great for large groups. Service is good too.

Moussaka, pork chops, Souvlaki Kotopoulo, potatoes
    Samantha S.

My group of four ordered the moussaka (comes with one side-- we picked potatoes), chicken souvlaki (side: vegetables), pork chops (potatoes), rice pilaf with spinach, and the spinach pie. Highlights for all were the moussaka and souvlaki, but everything was good, and we devoured it, family-style. The service was attentive and friendly. The restaurant features a sizable dining area, and we were seated for dinner promptly without reservation.

Another great Greek I got to try in my new city! Service was friendly and quick and food was of course delicious. I wish our serving of fried calamari was a bit larger (hey, im Italian!) but my lamb in tomato sauce was so tender and delicious!

We love coming here. It's such a home feeling and lively place. Great for large groups. We ordered the branzino with the Briam veggies as a side. We also got grilled calamari. This was a fresh and tasty meal, without meat too. Their meats are also great but this is the spot for getting fresh and healthy tasting seafood meal for a very reasonable price.

I came back again to bring my sister who's from Florida to try some really good Greek food and everything was consistent and very good. Will always come here for Greek food!! The service was good , our drink cups were always filled with water, and the kids also enjoyed the fresh seafood!

The whole vibe felt warm and made it a really nice family dinner. My grandma and mom both seemed happy and enjoyed everything, which honestly mattered most. We ordered two Greek salads (definitely could've gotten away with just one -- they're huge and very shareable). We also had the Mediterranean spreads: tzatziki, eggplant, and a spicy spread. Everything was solid and great for sharing. We also got grilled octopus as an appetizer -- super tender and really well done. For my main, I had the grilled deboned red snapper -- absolutely delicious. It came with a creamy lemon sauce on the side that you can pour over the fish, plus oregano fries and grilled vegetables. The veggies were amazing, especially the grilled onions that just melted in your mouth. We also ordered takeout: kefte kebab with fries, which was maybe smaller portion but it was good flavor. For dessert we had a baklava float (I think that was the name) with coffees to finish. Very happy with the whole meal overall. Drinks at the bar beforehand were also a highlight -- sangria and a gin, lavender, elderflower, cucumber cocktail that my grandma actually loved.

However, since we came on Valentine's Day, I noticed that many couples were given roses as they walked in. My partner, who was the only Black woman in the restaurant, did not receive a rose when we entered. At the time, we didn't think much of it and continued with our dinner. As the evening went on, though, we saw more couples come in and receive roses. Some of these couples were seated next to us, which left a bad taste in my mouth. I can't help but wonder what criteria the restaurant used to decide who received a rose and why so many couples who arrived after us were given one. Unfortunately, this experience spoiled my enjoyment of the restaurant and left me feeling conflicted. We ordered plenty of food, left more then 20% tip and if anyone from the restaurant sees this please reach out, if there was some criteria that needed to be met to receive a rose I would love to know
