However we were very disappointed with the service - we had to flag down the waitresses several times and we were even ignored a few times which was very surprising. I've reviewed Salute many times over the 21 years I've been going here. I left Forest Hills in 2005 and moved to Bayside and now Garden City but I still drive the 25 minutes for my favorite kebabs (lula), the best hummus I've ever had and their delicious bread. Even my wife, who is from Morocco, gives it a high rating and she's particularly picky about kebabs and hummus. It's my go-to happy comfort meal and I highly recommend you to give it a chance and support it thru the pandemic restrictions. It was 5 stars before Yelp existed in 2000 and it's still 5 stars 21 years later. Tip: call in your order. If you use seamless, call and confirm the restaurant received it. read more

I've been here over 15 years and I think the food and the atmosphere are great and the place is worth a special trip due to the uniqueness of Bukraran cuisine. I see a lot of people saying that the service isn't good, but I disagree. The waitresses have always had the right pace for asking us what we want, have always been good at refilling our water, have accepted menu alterations, and brought the food out at a good pace. The waitresses don't mind taking pictures of families eating together. The waitresses aren't chatty though. When I have asked what a dish was that I was ignorant of they are not good at describing it. (When I asked what a kind of bread was the answer I got was "It's bread") However, I think this is a cultural thing and a result of limited English and not because the waitresses were mean. Being Uzbek, it's not easy finding restaurants with our cuisine so we made our way to the city to this restaurant based on the reviews. It was a good size restaurant and it was pretty busy as well. What I loved was the options. Lots of items to choose from. We had a large party and had the Asian carrot salad , bread, laghman, kebabs (chicken and beef I believe) osh, sombsa, and Kalam pochaa. There were mixed reviews. Although the food was good and authentic, it wasn't great. The lamb/beef kabob, forgot what meat we got, was over salted. The laghman was definitely not what I love about laghman, very soggy and almost old tasting. The chicken kabobs tasted like you took a chicken breast and cooked it without any seasoning at all. I loved the warm bread with the carrot salad. The worst part of the meal was probably the reaction my mil and daughter had to the sombosa. They were the only two people who ate it and they were sick all night ! Can't say I will return unfortunately. read more

Been wanting to try this place because a friend of mine always raves about it! Tonight I tried a lamb gyro and I loved it. It was lettuce, onion and lamb with yogurt sauce. It was delicious. Salute is amazing! I don't get the negative reviews here, probably from a bunch of millennials. We went as a large group to Salute on a busy Saturday night and were seated immediately. The staff were super friendly and very attentive. The food was amazing too, definitely try the pickled carrots, cheburek and the babaganosh! The only good thing about Salute is its parking. First, our food took forever to come. When it did come, it was cold. Our garlic with fries dish had the garlic on the side, whereas it's supposed to be mixed throughout. The Israeli salad was chopped up too finely. And the chicken and luleh kabobs just weren't great, and again, were cold. The waitresses didn't care at all that our food took so long to come out, and when we asked our food to be warmed up, they looked offended. Our water pitcher was also empty the entire time. This place has zero, I repeat, zero service. This is the worst place I have ever been to in NYC. They never replaced,or even took away empty plates and literally didn't show up until we asked for the check. We ordered bread with lagman. The guy who took orders from us disappeared and later a lady came up with frowning face and said they didn't have bread at the moment. No apologies, nothing. Like we owed her $10,000. We explained that we usually eat lagman with bread and if they told that in advance we would perhaps consider the restaurant across the street. Then later they brought not fresh half loaf leftover bread and told that's all they have. Long story short, please do not go there! Listen, I don't eat kosher, and I'm no expert in Bukharian or Uzbeki cuisine. What I do know however is good food, and this place was fantastic. I was brought here by a Russian friend who ordered an array of dishes that blew us away. After that, we were seated and the waitress seemed to try and ignore us. Here's what happened. They served us water in tea light holders that probably hold an ounce and a half of water, and my roommate was hungover and needed a lot more than that. Then we asked for lemon for diet coke and she gave us oranges. Anyways, now for the food. We ordered a meat peirogi which was salty and fatty and mushy and disgusting. They NEVER came back to see if we wanted something else and when they walked by our table there was no eye contact in order to get their attention and even when we tried to get their attention they just ignored us. Today my coworker invited me to Salute for lunch. I'm not really familiar with Bukharian food, but she always raves about it. It was lunchtime, the restaurant was busy, we were seated right away. Our server took our order and we waited for our food. Our server was friendly, the kitchen was slow, I don't know I was just hungry but it felt like an eternity. There's no bread on the table so I was pretty hungry. I ordered salmon kebabs platter, it came with 2 kebabs, rice fries, coleslaw and veggies. The salmon was really good so flavorful. My boyfriend had a craving for something different and found this place which is close to where he lives so we decided to try it out, we have since been there one other time. It is a very small space and gets crowded fast even during weeknights for dinner and parking is a pain so that is the reason for 4 stars instead of 5. We were the only non-russian speaking people in the establishment both times. The first time we got seated pretty fast since it was just two of us and they were very friendly, I tried the Baltika beer which I enjoyed. The first time around we got a few appetizers one steamed and one fried dumpling couldn't remember exactly what they were not that memorable. Shurpa soup which wasnt to bad, we got that again for lunch today and it was much better...the lamb melted in your mouth and went perfectly with this giant loaf of Tandoori bread that was fresh out of the oven. We got the house salad this time around which was great and we also had a tomato and onion salad which was also great. We got a few different kabobs, they did not have quail either time which I wanted to try. The beef special cut is wonderful, it melts in your mouth and hands down was the best kabob we got. We also tried the lamb, salmon and lamb rib. The salmon was also very excellent since the skin was on and it roasted off a bit so it was crispy on the outside and melted in your mouth. All in all we had wonderful meals both times we went and it was super cheap, the first time we got alot of food and alcohol and it wasnt more than 40 bucks. The only thing I could do without was the calorie listings next to each food item! We will def be back, also I like that they do not rush you out and let you enjoy your food. read more

My family and I ate here on a friends recommendation and were glad we did! It is very similar to another Kosher restaurant we frequent of the same cuisine, named "Stix". Salute was well suited for our special occasion (as well as more casual outings, I'm sure). The decor was lovely and staff attentive and pleasant.
