The food was good. The salad was fresh, the hot entrees were hot and well made. The portions were generous. But the bread tasted like it came on a slow boat from a bad bakery and in Russia. As good as the food was, the service was so awful as to make to ensure I will never return. We had to ask for v the bad bread several times. We had to ask for water a few times. Our waitress spent more time vaping than serving. We were there for 45 minutes and got our entre to go as we were leaving. The tip was included in the bill but the waitress was visibly and loudly angry when we didn't add to it. The ambiance indoors was chaos and disfunction. Stumbled upon Tatiana while I was with friends trying different Russian food in 3 different restaurants. I know, sounds crazy! But we had such a great time. I dined at Tatiana Restaurant on weeknight recently to enjoy a good meal and the board walk and fulfilled both. We ordered some salad, some potatoes with mushrooms, some salmon, the chicken kebab, and black currant ice cream. All were very good and filling. It should be noted that the place can be a bit pricey compared to other places to the point where you might think the prices are inflated due to the location by the beach, but the portions are huge. You are getting your money's worth. The service was very friendly. Fun times at Tatiana's! My first visit was with coworkers. The vibe was casual, festive and relaxed. The food was plentiful and good. Don't remember the specifics but perhaps, the vodka was working it's magic. Service was also very responsive and friendly. Our table was situated on top of thick plexiglass. Underneath was a large tank with various fish swimming around. Kind of kitchy but somehow works with the overall atmosphere of the restaurant. My friend and I came to Tatiana after a nice day at the beach on Brighton. The restaurant is buzzing and always busy and has a great ambience, I love that we sat on the boardwalk. Service was pretty good and attentive. I went with the grilled Bronzino and my friend ordered the chicken Caesar salad. The salad was delicious with plenty of Parmesan cheese however, they missed an order and did not add chicken. My Bronzino took a while to come out and I do think it was delicious, but it was a little bit lacking in seasoning, overall I think the food here is a little bit on the bland side could really add a little bit more salt. The potatoes were absolutely delicious. I wish they were a little better. This is a great restaurant with good quality food with Some slight improvement. We used to go to Tatiana every time we came to the south Brooklyn. The food is typically good, although slightly overpriced. However, the portions are huge, so if you take more than one dish, a doggy bag is a must. This Saturday, the chicken tabaka was overdried. The fried potato had too much garlic on top. The rest of the food was good. We arrived late on Saturday evening to have dinner and watch a show. What we did not like much was the fact that the restaurant charged us $30/person for a 30 min show. You couldn't see that on their website, and they don't tell you this when you make a reservation. I've been in a few Russian restaurants with "shows", and no place ever charged for the show. Well, it was still OK, as the dances were good, although it was hard to see from the table we sat at. What we hated was that the boys at the coat check wanted $3 per coat right away. Strange, to say the least. Then one of us realized she had forgotten a phone (money!) in her pocket. When she asked to take a phone from the coat, a boy wanted an extra $6, saying she had checked out two coats and then checked them again! This is after we spent over $100/person on food and drinks! Also, they charged 18% tips right away. We were kind of ready for 10-15%, as Russian places typically charge that much, but 18% is slightly more than usual. Needless to say, we did not give an extra tip. I think next time we are in Brooklyn, we will try a different establishment. Also, very unlikely that we come to the show again. read more

COME FOR THE SHOW!!!!! WOW, I've wanted to check this place out for years. Finally got a group together and already planning to go back with a bigger crew because we want to do the banquet! Were there some weird moments of poor service? Totally! Did that get in the way of the delightful fever dream or the fact the dancers were really good? Not at all! I felt like I was living inside of Eurovision for one beautiful night. We got there around 8 and it was well after 11 when we wandered out. The appetizers were really, really good. They force you into ordering way too much food, but do not skip the deserts. We tried three and all were excellent. I used to go to this restaurant on a regular basis, often with friends. However, the last time time was a total disaster. I ordered pelmeni (Russian dumplings) which were awful and cost $20. They charged me $6 for a can of soda(!!). The bill includes mysterious "service charges" plus, on top of that they already added 15% tips. And on top of that they suggest to still tip 20% on top of 15% which they already charged. Here the bottom line. If you want to eat overpriced, crappy food, Tatiana is your place. After many months, a friend of mine and I went out to venture out to Tatiana, a respected Russian restaurant in Brighton Beach. I knew beforehand that this would be expensive, but an experience nonetheless. It also happens to moonlight as a restaurant, but a nightclub after dark. There is also a sister restaurant, Tatiana Grill, but this is where you go for banquets or a more fancy meal. We got several items, prepared all the way to pay a lot, and in the end, we did. Damage was done. Kompot: Basically an Eastern European fruit drink, and it is not terrible. They serve it in a large pitcher, and it helps strengthen your pallet for what is to come later, because the food is going to carry a lot of weight. 3.5 stars Bread: Complementary bread with butter is also provided. The bread is dry, the butter does little to help it, but hey, never turn it down. Free is free, right? 2 stars Harcho: Their take on a Georgian classic, we both enjoyed this very much. Good flavor of broth, the lamb is tender and falls off the bone, nice texture of other things, but it is expensive. This is where the Kompot comes in handy. 3.5 stars Khachapuri - Adjaruli: I have been wanting to try Khachapuri for a long time, and it did not disappoint. The bread is cooked beautifully, the design is splendid, and the combination of bread, cheese, butter, and egg not only make this glorified cheese bread more memorable, but also easy on the stomach. I think the both of us were caught off guard with how good this thing is, and how dangerous it could be if you have no self control. 4 stars Entrees: I got the Cornish Game Hen, my friend got the Chicken Kiev. Both times we were happy that the chicken was cooked through, and it had a tasty crust. The sides though were plain and bland. Not too memorable, though the portion sizes were ample enough that my friend needed a box to take his home. 3.5 stars Service: Our server was a bit curt, slightly rude and gruff, but maybe that is because we were not in on her jokes. I did not like that she did get us water at the start, only when we were 3/4 of the way through our lunch. However, she was knowledgeable about the menu, was honest, and even showed us how to eat our food properly. When eating ethnic cuisine, it never hurts to ask how to eat it, you will never look bad; it shows you are not an Ugly American. 3 stars -- Would I return here? Maybe. It is a unique experience, but the fair food at a fairly high price might be the tipping point. I only hope next time I order less and be more smart, that way I can enjoy my meal and feel less naive about this cuisine and more receptive to the jokes. read more

As my friend aptly put it: "It's like cabaret, circus, Eurovision and an Eastern European wedding reception all in one." We took some out of towners, thinking we could really give them a unique NYC experience, and boy did we get it. We danced. We ate. We got drunk off our faces. We witnessed a fight. *Someone who shall go unnamed from my group got so amped she danced right out the door and ran straight across the boardwalk to the beach and skinny dipped in the cold fall Atlantic waves. My boyfriend who is Jamaican and I decided to take a spontaneous Sunday evening drive to Brighton beach and I was so excited to introduce him to authentic pelmeni and kachapuri emurelli bread. Once we sat about 20 minutes went by before anyone came over. We had to actually stop 2 different people just to get a server to come by. We ordered a bottle of Chablis and the food immediately. We had to ask yet another person for water about 10 minutes later. Finally the water and wine came, as did the food and wine but it was clear by the stares and glares from the staff and other diners that my black boyfriend was not welcome in this space. I am heartbroken to say this is not the first time we've experienced this treatment as an interracial couple at an Eastern European restaurant and I just don't get it. This is NYC. In 2024 FFS. To put the icing on the cake our server had the audacity to complain about me not supplementing the included 15% gratuity to the hostess within earshot of us after she picked up the checkbook. You know it's a fancy restaurant if you can say with complete seriousness, "I had to settle for the filet mignon." The outdoor dining area of this place was beautiful and quite spacious. There were white tablecloths on the tables, nice white chairs, and a very charming ambiance. We were served complimentary rye bread, which was pretty tasty. Upon taking a look at the menu, I was immediately drawn to the meat entrees and different varieties of varenikis, which are Russian dumplings. The rack of lamb was a whopping $61, so I decided to order the filet mignon, which was half the price. I asked for the filet mignon to be medium well, but when it came, it looked well done. The filet mignon was delicious, but a bit too charred on the outside and since it was well done, the meat inside was on the dry side. I definitely should have asked for medium, which I plan to do from now on. The flavor was wonderful though and there was plenty of yummy seasoning! The porcini mushroom sauce that accompanied the filet mignon was mouthwatering and paired really well with the steak. It was so good that I wanted even more of it. The dish also came with a medley of colorful vegetables including peppers, eggplant, and tomato. This was cooked perfectly and tasted very fresh. There were also some cherry tomatoes on the side, which were juicy and crunchy. In addition to the vegetables, there were french fries with a sprinkle of Parmesan and some herbs. This was nicely crispy and delightfully flavorful. The service was pretty good and we were taken care of throughout our meal. I would consider returning if in the area to try a seafood entrée and the varenikis. read more

Tatiana is run by people committed to the worst customer service in NYC. On my last visit they had a ground floor bathroom that I could access in my wheelchair. When I went there this past weekend they said that they closed the part of the restaurant that had an accessible bathroom and have no ADA accommodations available, despite getting Sandy money from the government (and PPP loans in all likelihood). read more

Not.... Great. I was with a group to celebrate a friend finishing her cancer treatment. We were sat in the back room, alone and separate from the main room and unable to see the stage show. (There were TVs with what looked like security cameras pointed at the stage.) Had to ask for more water and was told we'd be charged for tap water (despite the fact that when we first sat down, they filled our glasses). Waiter was rude and inattentive. My husband and I are vegan, and I did not make the reservation, but I did check the menu beforehand and saw a few salads and sides we could get. No problem. Except we were all required to buy both an appetizer and an entree (all of the entrees contain meat or fish). I explained we don't eat meat or fish or cheese. The waiter rolled his eyes and said, Just vegetables?? The hostess (who to be fair was nice and trying her best), said she wouldn't charge us the $30 per person for the show since we weren't able to even see it. But said we had to order entrees. Then when I explained my husband and I couldn't eat any of the entrees, said she would have to charge us the $30 for the show. What?! We ordered SO much food, including more than one appetizer per person. Definitely not recommended if you're vegan. Lesson learned. read more

It was myself, my husband, our 3 year old, my mom and my mother-in-law. My husband and mother-in-law are American and don't speak English. When the waiter arrived and we started putting in our orders, as soon as my MIL started speaking English, his whole face and demeanor changed. I took over and started speaking in Russian and letting him know everyone's orders. When I stated my husband's order, I mentioned to the waiter that my husband has a seafood allergy and to please make sure his food is prepared carefully so it is not cross-contaminated. The waiter had the audacity to roll his eyes at me and do of those sarcastic nods. I was like nope...not risking my husband's life cause of this asshole. We canceled our order and went next door to Tatiana Grill (same owners I know) where our waiter was wonderful and food was delicious.
