Crispy Eggplant Salad
Svetlana A.

My husband had a birthday and we decided to have dinner at this restaurant. It has a very beautiful interior, comfortable chairs. I would especially like to draw your attention to the menu. In addition to our favorite dishes of Azerbaijani cuisine, there are many delicious and unusual dishes. We ordered crispy eggplants, kutabs and a signature salad as an appetizer. For the main course: sturgeon shashlik, lula kebab, lamb shashlik, vegetables and grilled potatoes. Everything was very fresh and tasty, especially the crispy eggplants - amazing! In honor of the birthday, we were served free tea, 3 types of jam and Baku baklava. The waiter serving us was called Anar. Thank you for the excellent service! I would also like to note that the prices were reasonable, which is also important.

Kutab/Qutab with veggies. Outstanding.

On an unusually warm day in March, they set up the classy outdoor seating. I asked the server for recommendations - the menu is great for sharing and trying lots of different dishes, but I didn't want to overwhelm myself with too many calories. She was a gem and suggested: Eggplant Pkhali - I really love this vegan dip of eggplant, walnuts, roasted onion, garlic, coriander, pomegranate molasses, cilantro and pomegranate. It comes with fresh bread, that is crunchy outside and pillowy soft inside. It's perfection, refreshing, toothsome, and vegan! Khinkali - beef and pork soup dumplings were well folded, savory, and soupy on the inside. Red currant mocktails - pretty and refreshing! They also have an extensive wine, beer, and cocktail menu. I have also been here for lunch and had a number of other dips and salads and loved what I got. Chama Mama is great for a date or friends. I believe they will rent out the full restaurant for events. The vibe feels upscale yet simple, and everything is delicious. Prices are in the teens for appetizers and $30+ per entree. Recommend.

The table we were given was in an uncomfortable spot near the passageway to the back. However, when we were leaving, several tables were still available, which made the situation feel unfair. Service was great at first, but as the restaurant filled with more parties, we felt neglected. Not being offered dessert or coffee--/ we felt obliged to ask for our check. Dessert came but coffee is not available/ hopefully this gets fixed soon. We look forward to our next trip

Cool art but nothing too special -- but you won't even care because you'll be too busy slurping down the heavenly food that was blessed by the Georgian mountains or something!! It's comfy enough. I loved it so much! I will come again. I didn't take any food pictures because I don't believe in food bloggers and my sausage fingers frequently prevent me from taking decent pictures. But I did snap a shot of the lemonade which looked a little radioactive but was absolutely delicious. If you're thinking about it, just go! Rip the band aid off and ascend to food enlightenment.

The cheeseboat is perfect for one person, but it can get a bit heavy from all the cheese. My favorite one was either the leek or chicken cheeseboat, the leek was so flavorful and shined in the cheeseboat. The lamb chakapuli entree was delicious but the lamb was tough to chew and was hard, the stew tho was good especially dipped with the bread. I would skip on this the next time I come. In the last few weeks, I have been to three Georgian restaurants, and this one may be the antithesis to everything I have tried up to this point. Because this restaurant is in Williamsburg, expect some hipster flair with some great food. Fortunately, Cheeseboat delivers on both fronts. This is the restaurant that introduced me to Khinkali, or Georgian soup dumplings. Six to a plate, these are outrageously, sinfully, delicious. Not terribly hot, but have terrific flavor that are not filling at all. Everybody should order these when they come here. The Shkmeruli is terrific as well. Full of flavor, amazing spice, the chicken is moist and juicy. I easily butchered this because I did not want to leave any meat on the bone. Unfortunately, the bread it comes with is a bit salty for my liking, but the chicken is the star, and that is why it can be recommended. Of course, you know what is coming next. I have been on the hunt for Khachapuri since I cannot get enough of this bread now. Everything I said previously I rescind (kidding), but seriously. This is dynamic. It is hot and stays hot. So much cheesy flavor and full of deliciousness I could not stop eating it. It is good for one person. This is not to be shared. I would like to take a moment to recognize my server, Liza, now. Pretty, exuberant, full of joy and confidence, with an intelligent aura around her, I think I fell in love with her each time she passed my table. Sonny from the film, "A Bronx Tale" once said every man meets three great women in their lifetime. Sometimes they come all once, sometimes they come around every 10 years. She is definitely someone who is going to make someone very happy one day. It was a joy to have her serve me. How often have I been giving out five star reviews lately? A lot, I know. However, you deserve the truth, and this restaurant does not tell a lie. Liza and all, this is the five star experience.

Luckily I was able to get a reservation ahead of time because the place was packed that night! I'm not too familiar with Georgian food, but many of the dishes on the menu looked so good. We decided on the mixed mushroom khinkali, thin crust megrelian khachapuri, pork mtsvadi skewer, and Mediterranean fish. The dumplings were stuffed full with mushrooms and I liked the thick dumpling skin. So different than dumplings I've had before. The flatbread was so unique topped with the pile of fresh herbs and pesto. It's a must order! The pork skewer was so juicy and flavorful. The fish was topped with a walnut sauce and my least favorite of the meal. Chito Gvrito is a perfect spot for a date night or a group meal. The dishes can easily be shared and definitely order one of the flatbreads!

The Khinkali here may be big, but they lack in substance and in style as they are presented lackluster and they lose their integrity fairly quickly. There is no resistance. The Khinkali here fall apart with one small nibble. Tasty, six to a plate, but I made a huge mess eating these when it should not have been. My new favorite bread, the Khachapuri, is a weak spot here. It pains me to say it, but it is. The bread seems underproofed and slightly underfilled. It creates an inconsistent taste pattern. One bite is all bread, the next is all cheese. I had to work this hard to get any harmonious flavor. It seems all the cheese is in one central location and did not spread. The Shkmeruli is the biggest letdown. The sauce it is cooked in has zero flavor despite it being very hot. Unfortunately the chicken is the same. The parts that are hit with the sauce are aggressively salty. The parts that are not are incredibly dry. I think the staff noted my mixed experience, as they did not thank me for my business after I thanked them before leaving. I will not be back.
