    Acharuli Khachapuri

First time trying Georgian cuisine and it was amazing! My friends and I were going on a food adventure and came across this cute little restaurant. Definitely worth the 1 hour commute haha! I had a great time. The owners were so friendly and welcoming. Hospitality was an A+. They offered us the best recommendations and we were so happy to try them. For dinner, we ordered the Acharuli Khachapuri and Khinkali (Georgian soup dumplings). Simple, yet such a satisfying and hearty meal! The Khinkali were full of flavor and spiced perfectly. Great for sharing among friends. They did not skimp out on the meat! Great portion. The Khachapuri cheese had a nice tangy flavor, but not too overpowering. Reminded me of the Greek feta. And the bread tasted so fresh! Very filling as well, so definitely come hungry. I can't recommend this spot enough. A wonderful hidden gem and can't wait to come back soon!

Stopped by for a quick bite white picking up more napoleon cake! I got the mushroom piroshki and it was so good. The pastry was flaky yet breast at the same time while the filling was super flavorful (a bit too salty for me though). I enjoyed dipping it in the beef stew as well as eating it alone. The beef stew had a really good flavor although the beef was on the leaner side, making it a bit tough/chewy. The main reason for stopping by again was to pick up napolean cake! I needed two 1 lb cakes but they only had one in the display case so I asked if they could make me two fresh ones and they did! So yummy and fresh and very happy with the service.

This cafe has been en route to my grocery market many times, and today I've finally decided to step in and try out their khachapuri. Their store is very inviting with seats, pillows, and the cutest decoration/trinkets by the window. I ordered the chashushuli (stewed beef) and a side of bread just as the owner had suggested. Everything came out piping hot, bread toasted, and full of flavor. The khachapuri + beef stew takes around 15 minutes to make, so be prepared! Make sure to mash that yolk and swirl it around the bread boat to distribute your flavors! I was debating on whether or not I should give the place 4/5 stars since things were a little salty, but honestly the radiating smile from the owner and her whole hearted suggestions gives this place a 5. I left stuffed since we were tempted by all her wonderful suggestions and ended up ordering 2 smalls khachapuris, beef stew + a side of bread. She was overjoyed to hear that we were taking the left over bread home. The seating situation has 2 tables that seats 4, 1 small outdoor table for 2 outside, & a bar setup by the window that seats around 5-6. It's a great dine in restaurant simply due to the amount of positive energy inside this place. We didn't have to pay tip, and prices are marked in cash - if you want to pay card there'll be an extra 4% charge on top.

On an unusually warm day in March, they set up the classy outdoor seating. I asked the server for recommendations - the menu is great for sharing and trying lots of different dishes, but I didn't want to overwhelm myself with too many calories. She was a gem and suggested: Eggplant Pkhali - I really love this vegan dip of eggplant, walnuts, roasted onion, garlic, coriander, pomegranate molasses, cilantro and pomegranate. It comes with fresh bread, that is crunchy outside and pillowy soft inside. It's perfection, refreshing, toothsome, and vegan! Khinkali - beef and pork soup dumplings were well folded, savory, and soupy on the inside. Red currant mocktails - pretty and refreshing! They also have an extensive wine, beer, and cocktail menu. I have also been here for lunch and had a number of other dips and salads and loved what I got. Chama Mama is great for a date or friends. I believe they will rent out the full restaurant for events. The vibe feels upscale yet simple, and everything is delicious. Prices are in the teens for appetizers and $30+ per entree. Recommend.

The cheeseboat is perfect for one person, but it can get a bit heavy from all the cheese. My favorite one was either the leek or chicken cheeseboat, the leek was so flavorful and shined in the cheeseboat. The lamb chakapuli entree was delicious but the lamb was tough to chew and was hard, the stew tho was good especially dipped with the bread. I would skip on this the next time I come. The apricot juice was amazing! It comes with fresh apricots and the drink wasn't too sweet. Service was good, the waiter checked up on us frequently and always came to refill our water.

In the last few weeks, I have been to three Georgian restaurants, and this one may be the antithesis to everything I have tried up to this point. Because this restaurant is in Williamsburg, expect some hipster flair with some great food. Fortunately, Cheeseboat delivers on both fronts. This is the restaurant that introduced me to Khinkali, or Georgian soup dumplings. Six to a plate, these are outrageously, sinfully, delicious. Not terribly hot, but have terrific flavor that are not filling at all. Everybody should order these when they come here. The Shkmeruli is terrific as well. Full of flavor, amazing spice, the chicken is moist and juicy. I easily butchered this because I did not want to leave any meat on the bone. Unfortunately, the bread it comes with is a bit salty for my liking, but the chicken is the star, and that is why it can be recommended. Of course, you know what is coming next. I have been on the hunt for Khachapuri since I cannot get enough of this bread now. Everything I said previously I rescind (kidding), but seriously. This is dynamic. It is hot and stays hot. So much cheesy flavor and full of deliciousness I could not stop eating it. It is good for one person. This is not to be shared. I would like to take a moment to recognize my server, Liza, now. Pretty, exuberant, full of joy and confidence, with an intelligent aura around her, I think I fell in love with her each time she passed my table. Sonny from the film, "A Bronx Tale" once said every man meets three great women in their lifetime. Sometimes they come all once, sometimes they come around every 10 years. She is definitely someone who is going to make someone very happy one day. It was a joy to have her serve me. How often have I been giving out five star reviews lately? A lot, I know. However, you deserve the truth, and this restaurant does not tell a lie. Liza and all, this is the five star experience.

Luckily I was able to get a reservation ahead of time because the place was packed that night! I'm not too familiar with Georgian food, but many of the dishes on the menu looked so good. We decided on the mixed mushroom khinkali, thin crust megrelian khachapuri, pork mtsvadi skewer, and Mediterranean fish. The dumplings were stuffed full with mushrooms and I liked the thick dumpling skin. So different than dumplings I've had before. The flatbread was so unique topped with the pile of fresh herbs and pesto. It's a must order! The pork skewer was so juicy and flavorful. The fish was topped with a walnut sauce and my least favorite of the meal. Chito Gvrito is a perfect spot for a date night or a group meal. The dishes can easily be shared and definitely order one of the flatbreads!
