Ojakhuri - Pork or Chicken with Country Potatoes, Steak Mtsvadi Skewer, Sausage
Maddi B.

We came here for restaurant week and had a great experience! It was quiet when we arrived around 5:30, but filled up quickly by 7. It ended up being quite noisy, but not too loud to have a conversation. The restaurant is quite small and gets tight when full, but it's cozy. Our server was kind and attentive. Georgian wine was very nice. We were all extremely impressed with our appetizers and entrees. The cheese pie was extremely delicious and we were all fascinated by how amazing the salad was. The tomato in it was so juicy, we almost craved it for dessert, and none of us are really tomato people! We had the pork, the steak skewers, and the sausage for our entrees. The entrees were somewhat small portions, but maybe that's just restaurant week. The desserts were not really our taste, but I know others on Yelp have really enjoyed them. We want to return and try many other items!

Georgian cuisine has become a lot trendier in Manhattan over the past few years, and I'm thrilled. We stopped by Chito Grivto for Restaurant Week on a Thursday evening. The cozy, charming spot on Third Avenue welcomes diners with soft lighting and quiet jazz, while the menu covers dishes from across the country. The Restaurant Week menu was a great bargain at $45: Our appetizers - Adjaruli khachapuri (fresh baked bread boat filled with Georgian sulguni cheese + butter, topped with an egg / Lobiani stuffed flatbread (spiced mashed beans + shallots + herbs) The mains - Tabaka brick chicken (grilled chicken in a white wine garlic sauce) / Potato mushroom ojakhuri (potatoes + mushrooms + wine + herbs + pomegranate) The desserts - Ideali cake (honey walnut caramel layer cake) / Zesty drunken almond cake (almond citrus sponge cake + brandy cream sauce) Each dish was excellent, with the khachapuri the best of the bunch, while service, even on a busy evening, was friendly and attentive

We came here for dinner during restaurant week. For the first course, we had the Adjaruli khachapur, which is a mixed cheese pie with farm eggs and butter, and the beef & pork khinkali. I absolutely loved the flavor of the dumpling filling, but the dough was quite thick. For the second course, we tried the shrimp walnut kharcho and potato mushroom ojakhuri. Both dishes were comforting and well-balanced. And lastly for dessert, we had the ideali cake and the zesty drunken almond cake (which was my favorite!)

Restaurant "week" is a misnomer. It's actually a month, and a wonderful opportunity to try restaurants you may be curious about. I'll start by saying that while I like Chito Gvrito there were a couple of things that irked me: a) the online menu is different than what you're handed in the restaurant. Similar yes, but not as substantial. b) A review written recently during restaurant week, touted Chito Gvrito's bread service with seasoned chickpeas and what she considered a delicious spread. We wanted it, and were prepared to pay extra. Our server -- a very nice person -- said it wasn't available, but lobiani is pretty close. It wasn't. None of us liked it. Dry, dense and tasteless. I should have gone with aubergine rolls instead. Now for the good: Appetizers are large enough to share. Definitely order Adjaruli Khachapuri, an open-faced cheese pie topped with an egg that the waitress mixes at the table. Khinkali, beef and pork soup dumplings, are okay. They could use more soup. The dumpling itself is like a pierogi, with skin thicker than Chinese soup dumplings. Tabaka brick chicken -- listed as half a spring chicken -- was juicy and nicely grilled with a lovely light sauce. My husband's Mtsvadi pork was well-seasoned and recommended. $4 upcharge. One gets a choice of three desserts. Gozinaki yogurt didn't interest us so we ordered traditional honey cake (Ideali) and Zesty Drunken Almond Cake. When they say "drunken" they mean it, with a generous pool of brandy cream sauce. Speaking of alcohol we each ordered an $11 glass of Georgian wine, which is served in individual carafes. Thumbs up for the Binobiza red, a rich semi-sweet wine, and white Kisi. Open for lunch with a $30 restaurant week menu; $45 for dinner.

It was my first time trying Georgian food, and I really enjoyed it! My partner and I ordered the Adjaruli which was deliciously rich and soooo cheesy. The Pork & Beef Khinkalli came out around the same time piping hot. The baby lamb chops were solid, and we really enjoyed the pairing with the adjika sauce. We also enjoyed a carafe of white wine which complimented the food nicely. All in all, I'm happy we came!

First time having Georgian food and wow Chito Gvrito didn't disappoint. My sister and I were dining here for Restaurant Week dinner and there was plenty of food for the prix fixe menu. We started with the bread service plate that came with seasoned chickpeas and this really delicious spread. I definitely could have had another plate of that how good it was. My sister got the eggplant aubergine rolls and I got the soup dumplings for apps. The eggplant rolls were so delicate and the sauce it came with was very complementary to the eggplant. The soup dumplings had a nice light yet rich broth. The dumpling dough was soft and thicker than the Chinese kind. It reminded me close to a pierogi dough texture. I would get those again for sure. For the second app we shared a Georgian cheese boat khachapuri which had rich and creamy cheese with a pad of butter and egg mixed in right in front of you. It was my favorite part of the meal. The cheese was so stretchy and the egg and butter enhanced the flavor profile of the dish. For my main I got the mtsvadi pork served with a tasty plum sauce, onilns and a side of potatoes. So tender and delicious. For drink I got the zero proof virgin Italiano who can was nice and floral. For dessert we shared the pelamushi grape pudding and the ideali cake. Both were unique and not too sweet. The restaurant would be great for a nice dinner date or treat for yourself. The space between the bar and tables can be a little tight, but it wasn't too bad for us. Service was also great and we would definitely be back in the future.

What a treat, I've personally never tried Georgian food and assumed it was heavy (stews) given that it is Eastern European food. How little did I know Their food was heaven on Earth for a clean & healthy eater like myself. Their dishes were flavourful and light and also learned that it is farm fresh!! Their soup dumplings are similar to Shanghainese soup dumplings - bigger and more fun to eat! You gotta try it :) The salads, mezze were soooooo fresh, beautifully plated AND SEASONAL. I can't wait to go back to try other items. MUST EAT- Georgian Salad, Soup Dumpling, Kubdari Meat Pie, Beef Skewers AND Lamp chop!

We came to visit New York during Christmas from San Francisco and wanted to have a dinner at the nice place. We really liked this restaurant. The wine was good, especially white wine. The Adjaruli Khachapuri was delicious. My husband and I have been to other Georgian restaurants among the US and can state that this one was the best we tried. Khinkali was also good. Our server was very attentive and polite, unfortunately we didn't ask his name. The ambience was pretty cozy. Definitely worth visiting!

Had a lovely meal at this small Georgian restaurant on Third Ave, definitely a great option in a quieter part of the city. Full disclosure, we did not try the khachapuri at this meal, but we had a number of other dishes and really enjoyed each of them. The khinkali (not pictured) were excellent. I had the spinach and cheese, they had the perfect texture and chewiness, and the filling was excellent. The other mains were equally impressive -- they really know their meat, and it shows with how well prepared each dish was. For dessert, the classic Ideali is definitely the right move. It was so rich and full of flavor, without tasting like a big sugar cube. The almond cake was okay, but not as interesting. All in all, a lovely, smaller restaurant that serves up fantastic Georgian fare!

Highly recommend the cheese bread and the steak! So yummy. Thought the cheese bread would be heavy but it's actually very well balanced with the salty crumbly type of cheese and egg yolk! Not greasy at all. The steak is so flavorful with the shallots and fried garlic. Very tender given it is not a rib eye.

I've had Georgian food exactly once before Chito Gvrito so I won't pretend to be an expert, but I know good food when I taste it. My partner and I came on a Thursday afternoon and we were the only ones at the restaurant so no need for reservations for weekday lunches. The vibe is comfortable and homey. The service was friendly and chill. I loved that my partner and I were able to have an intimate lunch without being bothered. For food, my partner and I opted for the lamb and tarragon khinkali, the cheese kveri dumplings, and the aubergine rolls. I wanted to try the cheese boat but I didn't have a large appetite that day. The lamb tarragon khinkali dumplings are pleasantly herby and savory and surprisingly big. The cheese dumplings were tasty and not greasy at all (considering the main ingredient is cheese and a dairy based sauce). The cheese dumplings are also a good portion. And the aubergine rolls were a refreshing and nutty delight with a pop of pomegranate. While I enjoyed that we were the only ones in the restaurant, I did feel bad that my partner and I were the only ones there. So if you're in the area for a weekday lunch, stop in and enjoy some great food at great prices. Plus the food won't put you in a food coma so you'll be back at work in no time.

I came here with a party of 3 on a random Tuesday evening. We came here as a walk-in around 7pm without any wait. It has been on my list to try since I do love Georgian cuisine. It wasn't too busy when we came, but it certainly did get busier as the evening unfolded. Our waiter was very polite and informative on recommending us on what to get since it was our first time here. We ordered the aubergine rolls, Adjaruli Khachapuri, Beef Khinkali (dumpling, broccolini, and chicken! As per recommendation. The service was superb. Food was delicious! Spices are very unique and were tasty. Amber/skin contact wine is very big in Georgia, I'd highly recommend a glass for the fellow wine enjoyers. My friends and I left with happy stomachs! Would love to come back soon!!!

It was my first time trying Georgian food with my three friends and we all loved it here! The atmosphere was really great, it was modern and trendy! Definitely can tell it was a great place because the whole restaurant was packed and booked out! Unfortunately it was a smaller place so had to scoot in a lot but that is no problem! The food was great, I love the cheese bowl bread bowl! I highly recommend if you love love cheese! The soup dumplings were so cool and big! Definitely a difference experience eating them! The chicken was amazing, same with the sausage and pork. And service was too really helpful! They showed us how to eat the dumplings! Always checking up and giving us water and anything we needed! Definitely recommend this place!

Do you offer lunch?

I had a business lunch meeting at Chito Gvrito, they serve all the traditional Georgian dishes for lunch. It's a great spot in Gramercy to go to if you are looking for a amazing food and incredible service.

How are the vegetarian options here?

The main exciting thing to get at a Georgian restaurant is the khachipuri (various types of cheese bread), so that'll work with a vegetarian dietary preference. You should be good with appetizers as well. I think pretty much all the appetizers are… Read more

First I'll start with the wine - we ended up trying all three happy hour wines (HH until 7), which the tables favorites were the white and we ended up getting a bottle to split once HH ended (but I really enjoyed the other vino verde option). It was incredibly refreshing and paired well with the many tinned fish options. As you'd expect - it's a pretty massive selection and there is bound to be a varietal and glass for any palate. It's also attached to a wine store - so it's fine to see all the bottles when peaking over. Food-wise - this is where it was hit or miss, they have a pretty extensive menu (with a whole tinned fish section!) and we ended up ordering the buratta on focaccia (buratta was excellent, focaccia was too dense for my tastes), mushroom truffle crostini (way too salty), the flatbread with sliced kielbasa (was fine), halloume (table favorite ), tinned sardines in lemon oil (delicious), tinned smoked trout (my favorite). Overall the four of us were very full at the end of the meal! The space itself felt very relaxing and rustic, and definitely got busier as the night went on (we got there at 6:50 and left around 9). The service was also fast and attentive - even for the amount of tables they were serving. Overall - I'd definitely go back again, and maybe just focus on the wine and another tinned fish selection!

Starting with the positives -the banchan was solid across the board and really flavorful. That said, charging for banchan feels strange to me. Traditionally, it's complimentary, like bread at an Italian restaurant so that part didn't sit right but it was flavorful. The chigae was interesting and probably the standout dish. It had a unique flavor that reminded me of a mix between soondubu and dwenjang chigae which worked well. Unfortunately, the rest was a miss. The bossam was overly salty and didn't feel true to the dish. The tteokbokki was another disappointment -it came with cheese (which wasn't expected) and just fell flat overall. For the hype, I expected much more especially because I've eaten Korean food my whole life. The venue is small and the seats in the back are uncomfortable.
