This is my 2nd time trying Georgian food and we ordered three cheeseboats and the lamb chakapuli entree. The cheeseboat is perfect for one person, but it can get a bit heavy from all the cheese. My favorite one was either the leek or chicken cheeseboat, the leek was so flavorful and shined in the cheeseboat. The lamb chakapuli entree was delicious but the lamb was tough to chew and was hard, the stew tho was good especially dipped with the bread. I would skip on this the next time I come. The apricot juice was amazing! It comes with fresh apricots and the drink wasn't too sweet. Service was good, the waiter checked up on us frequently and always came to refill our water. read more

After a little bit of a rut, I have hit the jackpot on several restaurants, and in case you have not been following, I have been on a trend of Georgian restaurants, with Georgian cuisine being one that is climbing higher and higher in my favorite cuisines, each time I try it. In the last few weeks, I have been to three Georgian restaurants, and this one may be the antithesis to everything I have tried up to this point. Because this restaurant is in Williamsburg, expect some hipster flair with some great food. Fortunately, Cheeseboat delivers on both fronts. This is the restaurant that introduced me to Khinkali, or Georgian soup dumplings. Six to a plate, these are outrageously, sinfully, delicious. Not terribly hot, but have terrific flavor that are not filling at all. Everybody should order these when they come here. The Shkmeruli is terrific as well. Full of flavor, amazing spice, the chicken is moist and juicy. I easily butchered this because I did not want to leave any meat on the bone. Unfortunately, the bread it comes with is a bit salty for my liking, but the chicken is the star, and that is why it can be recommended. Of course, you know what is coming next. I have been on the hunt for Khachapuri since I cannot get enough of this bread now. Everything I said previously I rescind (kidding), but seriously. This is dynamic. It is hot and stays hot. So much cheesy flavor and full of deliciousness I could not stop eating it. It is good for one person. This is not to be shared. I would like to take a moment to recognize my server, Liza, now. Pretty, exuberant, full of joy and confidence, with an intelligent aura around her, I think I fell in love with her each time she passed my table. Sonny from the film, "A Bronx Tale" once said every man meets three great women in their lifetime. Sometimes they come all once, sometimes they come around every 10 years. She is definitely someone who is going to make someone very happy one day. It was a joy to have her serve me. How often have I been giving out five star reviews lately? A lot, I know. Must-try dishes: Lobio (hearty vegetarian stew), Cheese Penovani (melted cheese in dough), Khinkali (Georgian soup dumplings). Be sure to grab a Georgian beer as well. I like the Kazbegi. Came here with a group of friends and enjoyed every dish. You cannot go wrong with cheese and bread. Throw an egg on there and call it necessary for bulking season. But the service was extremely slow, so probably don't come here if you are in a rush. I'm deducting one star because of the service. We tried the Kartvelian Salad, Imeruli Cheesebread, Leek It! Cheeseboat, and Bubba Cheeseboat. Everything was delicious. The salad was perfectly spiced and refreshing. There was a lot of cheese overall, but it didn't feel greasy. I liked this restaurant a lot because I felt like I was in a bar in Europe. It's cozy and there's plenty of seating, even if you have a group of 6-8 people. Really unique restaurant in Williamsburg! I came here with a group of friends on a Saturday night and it was packed. The interior is a bit small so it is really easy for people to bump into each other. The food was really tasty! It was my first time having Georgian food and the best way I could describe the cheese boat was it is like a pizza but the cheese is more like fondue. Definitely can be shared with 2-3 people and is on the heavier side. The dumplings were also tasty! They are huge and I honestly thing one per person is good enough. My friend came to this place pre-pandemic, and has never stopped talking about taking us to try it. We finally did, and whew! He won this one. This place is such a great spot! The outdoor seating was packed and bustling, so we opted for the inside where we had the place to ourselves. It was great! Service was warm and attentive and all the food was so so tasty. Everyone who had a cheeseboat really really enjoyed it-- mine was the steak n' mushroom, and while I personally like my steak rarer than it was served, it was still well seasoned! The green sauce they served it (& the puff pastry appetizer) with was incredible, and I drenched it. (My only critique is that I wish it was on a plate with no paper, because by the end I was picking some wet paper from my forkfuls. ) But it was more than worth it and still really delicious! It was a perfect demonstration of being attentive without hovering. And they were very kind and happy to explain the menu. We got the Cheeseboat with avocado and shrimp. The name says it all: cheese boat! We ordered the OG Cheeseboat and it's truly cheesy and delicious. Despite the size, the cheeseboat was enough to make 3 adults feel full. It's VERY filling. The service was very friendly. The tables and chairs are all quite close together (frequent bumping into the chair behind you) which didn't bother me, but if you're looking for a place with a bit more personal space take this as an FYI. If you're a cheese lover like me, you'll likely enjoy Cheeseboat. I've visited Cheeseboat twice, both times being small parties of 2 and 3. Cheeseboat has been my only experience with Georgian food and it's quite tasty. The second most recent time, I came around dinner on a Saturday & was seated in a small high table by the window. There seemed to be many roomier open tables so we were confused why we weren't seated there. Restaurant staff said those were for reservations but the whole time we ate, those tables remained empty. Despite the cramped quarters, we enjoyed our food & couldn't finish everything between the 3 of us. My recent visit we ordered the following: -rolled crepes (comes with 3 thick pieces): $14 -KhaBizgina (essentially a cheesebread filled with potato): $21 -Magic Mushroom Cheeseboat: $23 -Shkmeruli Chicken'boat $28 The wait staff mentioned that the KhaBizgina was quite big but we were like sure! Was not ready for how big and stuffed it actually is, alongside the other stuff we ordered. I'd recommend coming here with a bigger group so you can share and try more items. The rolled crepes are filled with ground beef & comes with a small side of sour cream. It tastes like the description so if you like beef, it's a solid appetizer. Overall pretty decent. The KhaBizgina is huge and I had to split a slice with a friend & we ended up taking it home with us. I recommend you try dipping it in the sauce that comes with the cheeseboats. Ordered takeout from Cheeseboat from lunch and got a variety of dishes from the the beef soup dumplings, vegetable (mushroom) soup dumplings, cheeseboat, and curry chicken. This was the only the 2nd time I've had Georgian food but everything was pretty good. The soup dumplings are huge, an order is definitely enough for an entree or to share with 3-4 people as an appetizer. I actually prefer the vegetable soup dumplings which are stuffed with mushrooms as the beef dumplings are a bit dry. Holy moly. I have a new favorite food (of many, admittedly). It is the decadent, rich, and savory cheeseboat. If you like cheese, bread, and... well... stuff that tastes so good it blows your mind, then head to Cheeseboat! I got the steak and mushroom, and my boyfriend got the magic mushroom. My steak was cooked perfectly medium rare and seasoned just right. It was a good portion for the dish as well. I don't know how they make their dough, but I want every pizza I eat to be made with it. It's so fluffy and soft but has a great chew. Like eating the world's best breadstick. Once it's all in your mouth, it really tastes like stuffed crust pizza x 1 million. To be clear, this dish is perfect, and I wouldn't change a single thing. I annoyingly commented this to my boyfriend after every bite. The picture in the menu had an egg in it, but mine didn't have one when the waiter brought it over. Honestly, there was so much richness from the cheese, an egg would have been overkill, so I didn't mind. The description also said it came with béarnaise sauce, but it actually came with some sort of green sauce. Same situation as the egg, I think the lighter sauce is the way to go here. They probably should update their menu though. One other discrepancy was with the cocktail I ordered: the Black Sea Breeze. It was supposed to come with raspberry purée, but mine did not. I could tell immediately due to the very translucent color, which also indicated a lack of the stated cranberry juice. Still, it tasted like lemonade and was delish. Came to this place in Williamsburg on a Saturday night around 6pm. As a party of 2 we were seated immediately outside without a reservation. The decor is nice outside and they have a menu for you to scan. The two of us shared the mushroom cheeseboat for the night - we wanted to try so many unique items on the menu, but were anticipating this dish to be pretty filling! The mushroom cheeseboat was SO tasty. The bread was light and fluffy, and the cheese was plentiful, warm and stringy. It was topped with mushrooms, onions, and some greens which added a lovely contrast of flavor to the cheese and bread. Highly recommend this for any mushroom-lovers! We both finished our halves but were very full and satisfied after The only thing is that the service for our table was fairly slow and a bit chaotic, so I had to dock a star for the experience, but not at all for the food. With locations in both Williamsburg and Hell's Kitchen in Manhattan, this Georgian bistro is known for offering its unique cheese bread bowls and a variety of other authentic cuisine with locally-sourced ingredients. It's ideal for both meat and veg lovers! At the table, we ordered a Pkhali Sampler as an app for $23, which was a traditional Georgian vegetable pâté w/ walnut pasted & an assortment of cooked leek, beet, and spinach. It was served w/ traditional Shoti bread and spiced oyster mushrooms. It was my favorite part of the meal; love how it all was plant-based! As my main course, I ordered the Smoked Gouda Cheeseboat, which was topped with scallions and served with their famous green sauce on the side. Price wise, it was on the $$ side, but I was happy to be served such a large portion! Unfortunately, aside from the fact that it was very cheesy (which is a plus!), the flavors themselves weren't what I thought they'd be. Maybe I need to try one with a bit more to it, but I've tried more flavorful cheese-based dishes before and this one tasted average to me, and to everyone I was with as well (they ordered different ones that had egg and/or meat in them, but I forget which ones). Found this place somewhat randomly online and eventually came here yesterday for a lunch date - and I am still struggling with how much food I've put into my body as a result, the next day. Short version: Great, really filling Georgian food in a nice establishment. Show up hungry. Long version: The reason we ordered that much food is because (a) we were totally unprepared for how hearty and filling the portions were, but mostly (b) because the food was so damned good and we just couldn't help ourselves. Came in when it was absolutely pouring rain (and hail was coming down for the first since since I can remember in NYC), so we dashed in just in time to avoid getting totally soaked. There was exactly one table for 2 available, right next to the door, so we sat down and looked over their menu. The only reason I'd be tempted to give them less than 5 stars is because the owners really need to step up their staffing - they only had two poor waiters to serve about 50 customers, split between their indoor and outdoor space. Service on their part was great (they were polite and prompt as they could be), but there was only so much they could do - food was a bit slow to come out, the door was always left open (which was an issue, right after a thunderstorm in mid-November), and we had to remind them of our drink orders a couple times. But again, since it was just two waitresses, we certainly tried not to be jerks about it either. A few customers showed up after we did, waited for 10-15 minutes to be seated, and eventually gave up - their loss, considering how good the food is. That said, the space indoors (when the door is closed and you're nice and warm) is nice and cozy without being cramped, and they have a really neat bathroom with plenty of books for adults and kids for some reason - and black walls that you can write on, with a bucket of chalk they provide. Neat! So yeah, onto the food. Keep one thing in mind: they do not mess around with their portions. We ordered the Khinkali Soup Dumplings and a bowl of warm Borscht with beef as an appetizer / small entree, to start us off - without realizing that was already enough to feed two people, and maybe leave room for dessert. The soup had plenty of meat and two slices of their home-made bread for dipping, and the dumplings were stuffed with beef and special Georgian spices. These were the thickest dumplings I'd ever tried, a lot chewier and harder to cut through than any Asian or Polish dumplings I've eaten before - and they were very tasty. We both wanted our own cheeseboat, so we could get to try different types, so we ordered 2 - and luckily the boats showed up fairly quickly, because we were about halfway through our appetizers. We got a doggy bag for the dumplings we hadn't eaten yet, and tried to take on these boats. She got the Shkmeruli Chicken boat, and I got the Steak 'n' Egg boat. It's...pretty much exactly what you would expect. A "boat" of delicious home-made bread that has a thick layer of melted cheese (part mozzarella, part feta), and the other ingredients are bedded on top. They have about a dozen options to choose from, including vegetarian or pescatarian options, but most of them have some form of meat. The quality is exactly why this place is highly rated, and why I'd be happy to come back despite their prices not being exactly cheap. Once you factor in how much damned food there is in each boat, however, it becomes less expensive - as long as you order just one boat for two people, or avoid the appetizers. A single boat is seriously enough for a date, trust me. We also ordered a shot of their Chacha (Georgian brandy, strong stuff) and some hot mulled wine, which helped us digest the food a bit. Eventually managed to struggle from our seats and go for a walk. At that point, finally a third server showed up - it was mid-afternoon at that point though, and they may have been prepping for the dinner rush. I'm really glad we tried the place out, was a fun and memorable weekend experience - yet another great restaurant in Greenpoint for us to come back to. read more

The Bottom Line: Who doesn't love cheese? While I encountered some difficulties with their service when I visited, the food more than made up for it. I had Cheeseboat on my bucket list for years after a colleague raved about it. On my most recent visit to Brooklyn I found myself just around the corner from the Georgian eatery. The stars had finally aligned. I ordered take-out ahead online while at the hotel and walked over after waiting 30 minutes. After walking in I was very disappointed to hear that due to technical glitches with their systems they lost my order despite admitting they received it. Alas my dream of cheese and carbs would have to wait a bit longer. The staff was very nice about it and immediately bumped my order to the top so I didn't wait much longer. The food was worth all the trouble. I don't know how to describe the Bacon Cheeseboat. On the menu it's listed as, "Caldron of Cheese w/ Crunchy Bacon." It was definitely that but much more. It all reminded me like a pizza or a flatbread the way the soft baked crust and the ooey-gooey cheese in the middle came together. Honestly I was in heaven. However I'm glad I'm still on Earth so I can try even more cheese + bread delicacies on their menu in the future. If you've never tried khachapuri, you are missing out. It is a delicious Georgian pizza that uses sulguni cheese and oh my god is it amazing. I had the chicken and my friend had the steak and both of them were equally good. However, the sauce that they provided with the chicken was better IMHO. The only downside about this place it's is that it takes forever for the food to come but trust me when I say it is well worth the wait. We came on a weeknight and shared the honeycomb brie cheeseboat, lobio, and the ratatouille appetizer. Everything was delicious, the service was great. Honestly the only thing that made me somewhat disappointed was that the cheeseboard are a lot smaller than how they look in pictures. I'd say they probably feed 2 hungry people. read more

This review is for the delivery only, didn't have the opportunity to visit, but we ordered in via DoorDash. I got the following items: - Cheeseboat (regular) - Mamma Mia! Cheeseboat - Soup Dumplings - Khinkali - 2 bread rolls The food was delivered within 40 minutes. While the food would have been better if consumed at the restaurant, it was still delicious. I enjoyed the cheeseboat and would definitely get this again! While Mamma Mia was good, could only consume few bites... then I was done. The dumpling was decent, the rolls were dense, but decent as well. Next time I'm in town, will go to the restaurant, looking forward to try their different cheeseboat and other items on the menu. read more
