Dar 525 is a welcome addition to the restaurant scene on Malcolm X Blvd. The ambiance is very nice and calming, and I love the decor. I've been anticipating their opening since the sign popped up, so I'm glad they've finally launched! I had the pleasure of dining on their second evening open. For it being just their second day, there was a healthy stream of customers rolling in. I was greeted by a hostess and dined by myself at the bar. There I was given menus for drinks, food, and entrees from the oven. I was in a very lamb-y mood, so I ordered the Syrian rolls with ground lamb and the lamb kebabs. And for wine, I was advised to try the pinot noir. The Syrian rolls are fried philo dough stuffed with your choice of lamb or cheese and parsley. I went for the lamb. I'd describe it as similar to an egg roll, but filled only with meat. The order comes with two and a tart sort of white yogurt sauce. I really enjoyed the flavor and crunchiness of the appetizer. I absolutely loved my lamb kebabs. The two skewers of lamb chunks were cooked to medium as I asked, though I'd probably ask for medium rare next time. They were perfectly seasoned and the presentation was great. They're served atop a half of pita bread, with pickled onions, half a roasted tomato, and two sauces. My plate was empty by the end of my meal, except for a couple of pieces of onion. Every bite was enjoyable. Dar serves a brunch menu everyday, and will be adding bottomless mimosas and bellinis as weekend options. I can't wait to pop in for that! The lamb shank tagine was very close to being my entree, but I wasn't sure my appetite would allow it. My next visit will also include grabbing something from the dessert menu. The flourless chocolate cake caught my eye, but I ended up having more wine instead. The staff was very friendly, and contributed greatly to my enjoyment of the evening. I can't wait to drop in again!

We think that "dar" means home, and that is such an accurate name because this place is cozy like home. Upon entering, you can order the hummus and pita right away and be met with a smile. They even have adjustable lights and an abundance of pillows (though the fluff level had me in a pickle.) The service was awesome. If you are deciding between 3 different drinks, they will give you a sample so you can make an informed decision. Although the table was too small for our food, we made it work. The pita emits steam which you can decide is a good thing or bad thing. I think good. Now alas, our meal has come to an end and we are packing up our leftovers. If memory serves, a big brown bag that rustles in the wind is their signature bag to go. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see and I encourage you to come find out for yourself.

It was the last day of my ClassPass cycle and I'd used not a single credit. Rather than let my credits go to waste after paying for them, I decided to order "dinner" from Dar525 before going to a previously planned sit down dinner elsewhere. I had been to the one on Grand St. and the other in Williamsburg, so I was happy to see there was one in my neighborhood! I ordered the Chicken and Rice bowl and waited for the staff to prepare it. As I sat at the bar and looked around, I realised the place was packed and it was just a Wednesday night! The music was nice and the lighting was very pretty. I chatted with the staff and learned that my favourite Dar525 (on Grand St.) had closed since I last visited in March 2024That place had sentimental value to me! It was where I found out that my boyfriend's guy best friend was in love with him. I'll never forget seeing the shock-horror on his face as he read the confessional text message and being so distracted by how delicious my Chicken Tagine was that I was in a different world! While I was sad to hear that and sad for the team, I was especially grateful that they'd opened this one in May 2024 as I live nearby. I took my rice bowl home and popped it into the fridge. The bag smelled delightful, so it was hard to leave it there while I went to dinner. I ate it reheated for dinner the next evening. It was pretty tasty! The only thing I would have liked is a larger serve of hot sauce! Otherwise, it was yummy! To give a fairer review, I'll definitely return for a proper sit down dinner. I'm really hoping the Chicken Tagine from Grand St. is on the menu here!

Fantastic food every single time. For my first visit I got the stuffed grape leaves, cauliflower and pita. Their aperol spritz's are 10/10. My second visit I ordered the Chicken Lemongrass Flatbread pizza and loved every single bite. The chicken was so flavorful and the ingredients were super fresh. I will be a regular that's for sure

I went back for a weekday lunch recently and the food and atmosphere both hold up fabulously, so it makes sense why they've remained a brunch mainstay at both their East Village and Williamsburg locations. I enjoy that they serve their hot moroccan tea in a glass as is traditional, so you can see all the fresh mint leaves in your cup. I had tea like this multiple times a day during my trip to Morocco a few years back so sipping on this here took me back in time. I ordered a short stack of their blueberry pancakes which were very fluffy and delicious. They're not the kind of pancake with crispy edges, which are my preferred kind of pancake but I still found them satisfying. The moroccan eggs, which are two poached eggs in spicy stewed tomatoes and served with zahar pita is a delight. The pita is very fluffy and the zahatar adds such a nice fragrant spice to the bread. They used to serve this with potatoes but now those come at an additional charge but are well worth getting. The Williamsburg location also has pretty good wifi and they let me work on my laptop through my brief stay there. Kitchen was speedy too.

My husband LOVED the burek, but then they totally changed it and now it's just gone. The food is still delicious, but unpredictable of what we can / will order. The new space is beautiful and open and airy, but sadly the service has dipped. This place used to be almost too fast, we were in and out and we consistently knew we could come here and get out in a very timely manner. But now I literally had to flag down our waitress and I still didn't get her attention, another waitress came over to help us get our check. We also didn't get checked on at all, luckily our food was good and right. The table next to us didn't get greeted for water or anything so they had to flag down the guy delivering food to get a waitress. I thinkkk it may be because the wait staff is servicing here and the location next store but it's really impacted the experience. Totally understand that a lot of places are understaffed, but we've never experienced this before Miriam we love you, but pleaseeeeee stop changing the menu.

The restaurant itself has a modern, chic décor with a lively but moderate noise level. It strikes a great balance between energetic and intimate, making it an excellent spot for a romantic date night if that's what you're looking for. Our server, Sam, absolutely made the experience. She was incredibly knowledgeable about the menu, answered all of our questions with confidence, and did an amazing job matching our preferences with the perfect food and drink recommendations. Her service was exceptional from beginning to end. We started with the pita and hummus, and you could immediately tell everything was made from scratch. The pita was warm and fresh, the hummus was incredibly smooth and flavorful, and you could truly see and taste the quality. For dinner, we had the burger with the house chips. Both were excellent, and I especially loved the herb mayonnaise that came with the chips. I didn't even realize it was mayonnaise at first because it was so fresh and flavorful! We also shared the Caesar salad, which was delicious. The next morning, we came back for breakfast and ordered the Jerusalem bagel with egg and cheese. It was absolutely decadent and the perfect way to start the day. Between the outstanding food, beautiful atmosphere, and exceptional service, this restaurant exceeded every expectation. A huge shoutout to Sam for making our visit so memorable. We can't wait to come back the next time we're in the area to explore more of the menu and, hopefully, have Sam as our server again!

It's super cozy inside, and they also give you pillows to sit on. Our server was really friendly and gave us great recommendations. The orzo on the side also balanced it out well. - Kale salad (5/5) This seemed like a simple salad but it was so yummy and dressed well. The pine nuts tasted good with this too! - Vegan fruit sundae (2/5) Sadly this was the only thing that missed the mark. I didn't like the raisins and the almonds didn't really work well with everything but that was just me. The sorbet was also pretty sour. On a Friday evening, my friend and I came in as walk-ins and got a spot at the bar. The space is a bit tight, but it works if you don't make a reservation ahead of time. I was pretty hungry, and everything we ordered was more than enough food. To start, we had the Whipped Ricotta ($14), Muhammara ($14), and Chicken Shawarma Hummus ($18). Absolutely loved every dip, which were all different in its own ways that I can't even choose a favorite. The ricotta was a sweet one that gave a nice contrast from the savory spices of the other two. I liked how much chicken they added for the hummus too, so you're getting almost a whole meal. You'll definitely need extra pita for all this, which does fill you up. We did also get a Radicchio Salad ($19) for some greens plus a Beef Kofta Skewer ($20) for some meat. Both of these dishes were solid, but could pass on them next time. Definitely recommend any of the mezze and hummus here; it's all you need. This is a really great date spot or group dinner. I thought it would be quite heavy but when paired with the pita bread it was just right - light and fluffy with a light drizzle of honey made it a great ricotta - however, ive had better ricotta before at theodora lamb shawarma ($20) - i wasn't expecting it to be a dip but it was delicate and delicious anyways - this is probably my fav dish out of all 3 - the dip was strong and smooth; tasted unique but not anything too impressive either - the lamb was super tender but it was quite strong; i dont think people would've been able to handle it if theyve never had lamb before rating: 4/5 - everything we ordered was good and the quality is definitely there so it's a solid 4 but nothing really stood out - ive had better and more innovative dips elsewhere - the vibe is cute though! There is also an outdoor dining area, as well as a mid-sized dining room and we were seated near the window. Sawa serves Lebanese cuisine with some more modern dishes. Additionally, they have a mostly Lebanese wine list, which gave us an opportunity to try some new wines. We ordered both a red and a white for the table, and I was especially drawn to the red, as the red was served chilled, light-bodied, and very enjoyable. Nearly all of the reds and whites on the menu are from Lebanon, with just one red from Morocco, plus a couple sparkling options from Lebanon as well. We started with several dips for the table: hummus, baba ghannouj, and muhammara. The hummus was incredibly smooth, and the muhammara was especially flavorful with large pieces of walnut throughout. Everyone at the table receives fresh pita, and we ended up ordering a few more to share. We also shared the Brussels sprouts and the snap peas. The Brussels sprouts were rich and flavorful, but the snap peas really stood out. They were unlike anything I have tasted before, intensely mint, served with garlic mint labneh, and very delicious. For mains, we focused on lamb: two orders of the lamb ribs, two orders of the kafta, and two orders of the sfeeha. We probably over-ordered by about one entrée, but otherwise it was the right amount of food for six people. The lamb ribs were phenomenal, fall-off-the-bone tender and packed with flavor. The lamb pies were also very good and came with a delicious dipping sauce. The kafta was good, though not quite as memorable as the other lamb dishes, but still very satisfying. Service was attentive throughout the meal, and despite the number of dishes on the table, the staff handled everything smoothly. The table got a little crowded at times, but it was manageable. I would absolutely recommend Sawa, especially for anyone who enjoys trying something a little different. They do classic Lebanese dishes very well, while also offering some creative dishes that feel unique and memorable. I am already looking forward to going back.
