Yummy food but some filthy and lax business practices. I ordered in person then was just gazing in the window and talking on the phone as I waited for my food. The staff was having their dinner. One guy was putting gobs of food all the way in his mouth with his hands. Then when he finished eating wiped his nose with his hand and went straight back to packing our food!! I was TOTALLY GROSSED OUT! So I knocked on the door and let the one guy know and he made the dude go wash his hands and they gloved up. But it begs the question: what goes on when no one is saying anything to them about washing their hands and safe food handling??! Then, I ordered via Uber Eats and they sent me 2 lentil soups that were all water and no lentils. So I called them to have a new delivery and they couldn't manage it. The owner then said that I could just have a credit the next time I ordered since no delivery people were available and I said ok to that. So I called today and asked for him. Guy on the phone claimed he was the person I spoke to and asked what I wanted to order. So I order and he says I have to pay! Turns out he was not the owner, which was a waste of my time. He then said he was actually the manager and would reach out to the owner about it and call me right back. 2 hours passed, so I just ordered from somewhere else. A couple days later, I was craving hummus again so I dropped by on the way home. ANOTHER dude wiped his nose before taking my order and I had to say something!!! The food is really, really good. But I would not order takeout because orders are often wrong and they make promises to fix things that they do not keep. Also, you want to watch them while your food is being prepared and make sure they are not doing things like wiping their noses and not washing their hands then handling your food! I have now witnessed this TWICE! UPDATE: Owner read my review and offered to make it right. But never did when I called him to order again. read more

We wanted some flavorful falafel and went here after reading some good reviews. We went on a cold night and there were hardly any customers but there were a lot of takeout orders. We got the opportunity to talk to the staff and the owner. We ordered their secret menu semkeh special that came with all their vegetarian offerings. The falafels were perfect. The eggplant was tasty. The hummus and baba ghanoush were so good too. I even got to sample their flavorful chicken shawarma. I've been ordering from Semkeh for over a year, and throughout the year we've become more and more disappointed with their food. A year ago I would be able to confidently say that this place was amazing, the price of the food was reasonable, portion sizes were insane, and food was bursting with flavor. Now, as I order from Semkeh for the last time - we have become extremely disappointed. For $20, you get a plate of mainly rice, with just a few pieces of meat. They definitely have skimped on the meat throughout the duration of this year. If you're gluten free, spoiler: the rice was confirmed NOT gluten free, as they use vermicelli made with wheat inside their rice. If you get a wrap/pita, prepare for the skinniest looking wrap you've ever seen. Something I would always come back for was their garlic spread, but nope. They have now chosen to omit that from their orders and don't provide you with it. They used to give tons of sauce on the side to give some flavor to their dry chicken, but when asked for it (for an order of 4 people) I was given a small, half filled cup. Wait times are insane with Semkeh, and they definitely need more staff or to manage the lunch rush better. I've ordered online from Semkeh and have had to wait over an hour for pickup for a small order. Leaving the neighborhood and thought I would miss this place, but after this latest order I can confidently say there's better out there. read more

Semkeh is a small window for ordering and a parklet outside for dining. They're tucked away in the neighborhood so it can be easy to miss them. I ordered a platter and although it was pricey, it was stuffed to the brim. This spot is affordable, delicious, and has some of the best customer service i've ever encountered in NY! We got the falafel sandwich, zataar fries, and the chicken quesadilla. Let me break it down. Food: My falafel sandwich was very flavorful with fresh vegetables. It was not too heavy but a very filling meal! Also, the falafel was well seasoned. The fries were crisp and super savory ( amazing with tahini ). My friend got the quesadilla and she loved that as well. Atmosphere: This place is pick up only but they have a lovely outdoor space.
