Delicious food, great presentation, and excellent service! We had an early family dinner at Chateau de Capitane in March 2024. It was Sat but the music would start much later so there was no noise and we could talk. Almost all food we ordered was exceptionally delicious, from appetizers to desserts. The service was very attentive and we also got good suggestions helping to avoid ordering too much :) We highly recommend Chateau de Capitane for excellent delicious food and we'll certainly be back! Appetizers Trio Tartare - awesome! It had tuna, salmon, and yellowtail tartare and each had its own distinct taste. Can't really say which one was better as they were all good but different. Sesame Tuna - perfect! Tuna was tender and flavorful, melting in the mouth. Duck Salad - this one could be better as the duck was dry and scarce. Arugula Goat Cheese Salad - delicious! We were debating whether to order this salad as we make it at home, but we didn't regret. It had a perfect combo of ingredients + some sauce or smth making it a harmony. Kutaby with Herbs - fresh, warm, flavorful. Belyash with Meat - this eastern russia deep fried meat patty was about 1.5x of the standard size. It had perfectly fried dough (not burned) and plenty of juicy medium cooked meat inside. I tired belyashi in restaurants in russia and made at home, but this one surpassed them all. Just this single belyash already makes it worth coming back to Chateau de Capitane :) Soups Uha with Salmon - it was good, fresh, and clear. Plenty of salmon. It was tasty but somewhat standard. The taste could be made more colorful with some extra spices and maybe lemon. Dushpora - fresh and tasty, with cute mini-dumplings. We all tried and liked it. Solaynka - this one was unfortunately a miss. Tasteless and over salted. Mains Duck with Dried Fruits - simply amazing! If you like duck - this a must have! The portion was very generous and had la parts of duck - legs, wings, and breast. It was super juicy and tender, cooked to perfection. The dry fruits were of a good variety and matched the duck. Chilean Sea Bass with Creamy Polenta - soft, flakey, delicious! It wasn't not too fatty as a sea bass could be. Polenta was a great match as well as a mushroom sauce served on the side. Grilled Branzino - it was served nicely peeled off the bones and had great flavor and texture, yet was not "fishy". I have mix feelings about the place . The service was amazing :from making reseravtion till paying bill . It was very smooth and friendly . The menu was very confusing , what is on ala carte menu( no prices ) is not on their iPad menu, We were there on Saturday night for birthday celebration . We were ordering from the menu, the winner was Octopus salad , it was melting in my mouth , the other dishes like Lamb chops, beef stroganoff and chicken kebab was also very tasty. Chicken Tabaka was very dry, my guest did not eat it. The fish entrees were also good I was very disappointed with live music , the songs were mostly slow and outdated . Only if you order songs for extra $ then it awesome to dance , but without ordering music we would not be dancing... I really want music to be change there ... I loved the assorti of the wonderful dishes on the birthday of my mother yesterday - December 19th -- this is five-stars, but if the name is French, then servants must be too French people, rather than my native Russian folk, however I understand, that it's America . One woman-servant asked which khutab I wanted with cheese or meat, I responded both, and then eventually she walked away somewhere, maybe she got offended at me... I don't know what's to say, service is four stars personally for that one, the rest of them were working normally. They've redesigned the space from a casual café with a bar to a restaurant with a small dance floor and live music on weekend nights. This is a wonderful restaurant with Russian style of singers food choices and good music. You can bring your own liquor like wine vodka. I came with 3 more people and we got a table. we ordered salads and main dishes. All food was fresh service was so good, waiters were very attentive to us. I loved the music performances by the band. One of the guy s sang from his heart and soul each song. The woman was so good to. Then there was a belly dancer she was incredible had every one on the dance floor. this place is quite phenomenal. i came in late on a wednesday even with a small group of friends and was quickly served a delicious sampling of several dishes all of which were so well cooked and u could tell the quality of the ingredients were very high quality. we started with a greek salad with ultra fresh vegetables and delicious feta cheese. it had light refreshing dressing and was a great start to the meal. we then moved on to a sautéed potato and mushroom course followed by oysters with unit and caviar. all excellent quality ingredients very meticulously put together in a very artfully attractive way and again great flavors complimenting each other. We were served a very nice cherry drink and cold shots of tequila. then we moved on to a meat course. This meat was incredible. the marbling and tenderness of the lamb chops and ribeye steak were grilled to perfection and the accompanying sauces so we complimented each bite. My only regret is I didn't eat every piece and few remained on my plate as I left stuffed and with no more room in my stomach. The waitstaff and cooks and chef all came by the table and were so friendly and accommodating. This place is very well laid out the interior is comfortable it's well lit and it's just all together very inviting. Came yesterday , mid week it was multiple tables- maybe more than usual for a Wednesday , however if they accepted our reservation and other people's reservation I would think they would have enough man power. In any case, ordered some salads , my parents have certain dietary restrictions but the waiter never came that way so no salads for them. The bread ... stale. I guess weekend left overs. It seemed as there was enough waiters/busboys but all seemed confused freaked out as if they were tripping on shrooms , the actual waiter was rude too. We were able to order entrees as well, after 2 hours they were not brought out waiter was barely seen, my parents left at 11 pm on Wednesday without eating anything but stale bread Bc they wake up 4 am for work. The rest of the table kindly waited for any signs of food. After multiple complaints to terrified shroom popping waiter and busboys finally waiter came. Confused with raging eyes literally pleading what else would we like... I don't know maybe an entree we ordered??? Wow!!! That's all I have to say. I don't get impressed much but this place was excellent. I was starving and just happen to stumble into this gem. As soon as I walked through the front doors I felt this place would meet my expectations. This place is beautiful and very clean. I sat at the bar to watch SNF. Ordered the spicy tuna roll which was awesome had to order another :) then had the king salmon which was amazing and I don't even like salmon! Then had the Kara Sea which was also amazing! The waiter's were very nice and courteous, but this place can get very hectic and it feels like everyone is on top of each other which is not very cozy but otherwise it was an overall good experience. What a wonderful restaurant. Came here this Thursday for an elopement celebration. The wait staff was so incredibly attentive, you didn't have to even think of what you might need because they already thought it through. You're close to finishing your drink? The next one is already waiting for you. You're thinking of reaching to put some of the delicious food on your plate? The waiter is already offering it to you. Plates were changed constantly, courses were served within a good time frame of one another, a waiter was always within reach but not at all overbearing. Now onto the atmosphere. A spacious well decorated and elegant space. Love music with a nice musician and actually good music selection not your usual overplayed European music over and over again. Now as for the food. The first course of cold appetizers were all fresh, well assorted and looked gorgeous while tasting phenomenal. Everything you could need was available, everything from pickled to fresh vegetables, to meat, fish, salads, bread, and god knows what else. Then came the seafood course, all the fish, langoustine, shrimp came perfectly cooked and not dry, perfectly seasoned and hot. The meat course with the steak was absolutely phenomenal, perfectly cooked steak alongside beautiful platters of sausages, chicken, lamb and sauces. Second time here and they don't disappoint. Vegetarians, enjoy the salads, mushroom barley soup, chatchapuri, and varieniki. Excellent selection of wines and hard liquor. Great atmosphere especially for a party with live music. Average is a fair statement. So, looking from the outside it looks like a place to come and have a meal. However, this is an actual old school Russian Restaurant with live music and dancing. The usual issue with a guy following you to give in your jacket. I was cold so I had to explain that I don't want to give my jacket in to three different people including a manger or owner. The usual fee applies as well. Of course there is a tip jar in the bathroom for the attendant. And last but not least the service charge; which for my American freinds does not mean a tip. In most Russian establishments you are charged a 10% service charge that does not go to the waiter. So, you almost always overpay for service because you leave at least another 12% for tip on top. I'm a generous tipper, but I don't like to be forced into it. No where in other American or European establishments do you see this. Now, the food. Unlike many others, we were not impressed. Listen, I grew up in Russian restaurant scene, and every event was a banquet in the 90's and the start of 01 and 02. These days, the community is more Americanized, and we mingle in good restaurants with internationally renowned chefs. I, as many of others in my generation, have been to top NYC restaurants and know what's what. Let's start by saying that the quality of seafood and meat is good here. However, the preparation is lackluster. The seafood salad needed lime or lemon or some sort of dressing. Any Peruvian chef would be ashamed of this type of prep. Hubby had a seafood combo that had a large plate, but the amount of seafood wasn't huge. While the presentation was nice, the lobster had an off putting flavour that's I can't put my finger on. Some guy had a birthday party, and his girlfriend ordered a belly dancer. A lady from a different table decided to join into his private show, and of course some motherly figure from his party got into a verbal fight with that lady holding her back from the dancefloor. That lady was adamant to dance and kept grabbing his handkerchief. Typical Russian restaurant someone ending up fighting or arguing and the owners didn't step in. So, would I recomend you coming here? If you are in the mood to dance and shell out at least 100 bucks a person, then you should stop by with a reservation. The food is fine. However, this is not an extra ordinary seafood spot as I have heard from others. It's a typical Russian restaurant that reminds you of the good old times where people got dressed up and brought their own booz to a place without being charged a fee. read more

The food is great but I had a horrible experience with the service at Chateau de Capitaine. A waiter soaked me head to toe in a pitcher of soda, and without an apology or anything remotely close to that. He then lied in front of everyone and the manger saying it wasn't because of him and then the manager practically blamed me for getting spilled on. At this point I wanted to give the place a 1 star review But on my way home I received a phone call from the owner. With his sincerest apology I believe it is fair to give this business a second chance. The owners response and action in this situation is what every business should strive to provide. My friends have told me that the manager has been reprimanded for his handling of the situation and the waiter will be reprimanded for lying. read more

While this restaurant is unique and fun, we were not the same nationality as a majority of the other diners and they certainly treated us differently because of it .... the food is ok....and the reason I am giving them one star is due to the $80 minimum per person that they forced us to spend for a party of 12 (this was not mentioned during the reservation process until we were seated and had already ordered; they literally came back and said you didn't order enough when each.
