I loved the assorti of the wonderful dishes on the birthday of my mother yesterday - December 19th -- this is five-stars, but if the name is French, then servants must be too French people, rather than my native Russian folk, however I understand, that it's America . One woman-servant asked which khutab I wanted with cheese or meat, I responded both, and then eventually she walked away somewhere, maybe she got offended at me... I don't know what's to say, service is four stars personally for that one, the rest of them were working normally. Four-starred for the strange name of this organization and its service, and five-starred for the excellent food.

This place is amazing. Came here for a birthday party and everything was delicious. Food just kept coming and coming. Service was amazing. It's a great local place and it's great for large parties. Sorry I don't have a menu pic as this was pre-ordered for our party. They had everything from steak, salads, chicken, fish, seafood... Best to come hungry and with a larger party so you could share. It's Russian owned and most of the staff speak Russian. It was a great experience

Been a customer since this restaurant's opening, around 10 years ago. They've redesigned the space from a casual café with a bar to a restaurant with a small dance floor and live music on weekend nights. The portions are tiny, the food quality is great, the prices are Manhattan-upscale-restaurant level. This is not a 'Russian-style' restaurant where you will gorge yourself on huge portions. This restaurant boasts French cuisine, providing opportunities to enjoy your food without leaving stuffed. Prepare to shell out some money for a delicious meal. I've tried everything on the extensive menu, and have not had a bad experience once. The lunch special is a great bargain--a salad, a soup, coffee/tea, water/soda, and an entrée all for $22.95, Monday to Friday, 12:00 PM - 4:00 PM. This is the most bang for your buck that you can get at this restaurant, and walk out feeling full after spending so little compared to regular menu prices. The banquets are on the expensive side. Your four options are: $90, $115, $135, $185. Refer to the menus on the website. Make reservations! On Fridays and Saturdays, you are guaranteed not to find a table without reservations. As tons of traditional, 'Russian-style' restaurants have closed around the area recently, this establishment is one of the few left standing. Expect even longer wait lines.

Chateau De Capitaine is a great European and seafood restaurant in the south of Brooklyn. My family had a great time last night dining and enjoying their live music. We enjoyed the Foie Gras, Fried Calamari, Greek Salad, Sea Bass, Trio Tartar, Stuffed Shrimp, and Lamb Chops. Everything was great and delicious. Service was lovely and we can't wait to come back.

This is a wonderful restaurant with Russian style of singers food choices and good music. You can bring your own liquor like wine vodka. I came with 3 more people and we got a table. we ordered salads and main dishes. All food was fresh service was so good, waiters were very attentive to us. I loved the music performances by the band. One of the guy s sang from his heart and soul each song. The woman was so good to. Then there was a belly dancer she was incredible had every one on the dance floor. It's been a while since I visited this restaurant and we were just there for a private event. Wow, love the remodel and that there is dance floor and music now! Food is still amazing!!! Definitely my new contender to host bigger events and parties there now.

The Restaurant I Fell in Love With 10 Years Ago Is Still Here!…read moreI have been a loyal customer of Hot Potato House for over a decade,my history with this restaurant goes far beyond an occasional dinner. I have celebrated special occasions here with family and friends, ordered catering for my office, relied on delivery countless times, recommended it to visitors from around the world. Whenever someone asked me where to find truly good Eastern European food in South Brooklyn, for years my answer came without hesitation: Hot Potato House. What always made this restaurant special was that it was never limited to just 1 type of cuisine or 1 kind of customer. Eastern European dishes are the heart of the menu, but there are also excellent German dishes, seafood, steaks, genuinely great burgers, vegetarian options. It has always been 1 of those rare places where you can bring a group of people with completely different tastes and everyone can find something they are excited to eat. The atmosphere has always been another reason I loved coming here.On certain evenings there is live music, but even without it, the restaurant has a warm, pleasant ambiance. The service has always been professional, attentive and gracious. Throughout the pandemic,it remained my go-to for delivery, food consistently arrived fresh and delicious. However recently I had an experience that was very disappointing and different from the place I had known for so long & when I brought my concerns to the owner, the way he handled the situation deserves special recognition. In an era when genuine customer service feels like a disappearing art, Greg's response was a benchmark for hospitality, accountability and respect for a long-time patron. He listened. He took my concerns seriously. He did not become defensive or dismissive. Most importantly, he made a sincere effort to restore my confidence in a restaurant I had praised so enthusiastically. Tonight's meal did something I did not expect-it took me back 10 years. My earliest memories of dining here is celebrating my beloved father's birthday. My dad had passed away since then,so those memories are now bittersweet, but I still remember that celebration vividly: the atmosphere, the service, and especially how much everyone enjoyed the food. Tonight's meal tasted like that again. Because NYC is still suffering through extreme heat,I had been craving something cold, so I started with the Svekolnik, a chilled beet soup. The natural sweetness of the beets, fresh cucumbers, finely chopped egg came together beautifully. Add a little sour cream and it becomes wonderfully creamy while remaining light and refreshing,it definitely hit the spot. The complimentary dark bread deserves its own mention-fresh and yummy,it paired perfectly with Svekolnik. Then came 1 of my favorite dishes: Mushroom Julienne-rich, comforting dish of mushrooms in a creamy sauce, baked with cheese. The mushrooms had wonderful flavor and texture, the creamy sauce was luxurious, the cheese pull was Instagram worthy, everything came together into a savory dish that's irresistible even when full. The potato pierogi/vareniki from the Loft by Hot Potato were the Best I have had in a while-soft, delicate dough surrounding a flavorful mashed potato filling, beautifully fried onions alongside them. And if you ordered the Mushroom Julienne, try a varenik with a little of that creamy mushroom goodness. You can thank me later. Next was the veal tongue, a delicacy; slices were delicate, flavorful and incredibly tender. The accompanying horseradish and beet sauce gives it just enough sharpness to brighten the meat without overpowering its subtle flavor. The dessert was spectacular: Tarte Tatin-the classic French upside-down apple tart, made with caramelized apples&pastry, served warm with vanilla ice cream. Portion is very generous and it was divine. I order delivery frequently from different restaurants but honestly cannot remember the last time food arrived so hot, the efficiency of the kitchen and delivery speed was truly impressive. I also want to express my sincere appreciation to Greg, the owner, for the way he personally handled my issues. His approach was gracious, professional and remarkably respectful. I recently ordered on a solemn anniversary marking a profound loss and the care shown to me mattered more than Greg realizes. A restaurant can occasionally have an imperfect day. What tells you far more about a business is what happens afterward. In this case, owner listened, cared, and made me feel that a long-time customer genuinely mattered. So after more than 10 years of experience with Hot Potato House, I can once again sincerely recommend it--not just for Eastern European food, but for any group where everyone wants something different. With such a broad menu, there's truly something for everyone. Thank you, Greg, for reminding me why I kept coming back to HPH and why I'm happy to endorse it again.

Excellent customer service and a very positive experience overall…read more I called with a question about one of the dishes before ordering, the staff member was friendly, helpful, and accommodating. They generously included both the house sauce and sour cream as requested, and everything arrived carefully packaged and exactly as ordered. The menu has recently been updated and offers a lot of interesting choices. I tried the Zucchini Pancakes with lox and fresh avocado plus the Syrniki (Lightly sweet, pan-fried cheese cakes made primarily from farmer cheese or a dry cottage cheese. They're crispy and golden on the outside, soft and creamy on the inside, usually eaten for breakfast/brunch). I appreciated the quality of the ingredients and the attention to detail in the presentation. Everything was delicious. The fresh berries and tasty accompaniments were a nice touch. The lulya here, along with the chalahach/lamb chops and especially the sturgeon, are outstanding. The rest of the menu is good also, such as their very tasty kutaba, but go here for the kabobs. I went to this Azeri/Azerbaijani restaurant a while ago with a large party. As per most other spots serving either Central Asian food, Russian food, or food from the surrounding regions, you'll have a different experience if you're with someone who speaks one of a few languages (Russian/something similar and/or the local ones depending on which restaurant of course) as well as if you're in a party or not as there's party platters and stuff to order instead. In terms of service, it was friendly, and the inside was pretty casual. A guy was singing live music eventually, which is pretty normal for these spots. We had a few salads and cold appetizers to begin with. For salads, there was an avocado salad with fresh tomatoes as well as a Greek salad topped with basturma, which were both good. There was also cheese served with tomatoes, as well as an excellent version of eggplant rolls/nigvziani badrijani stuffed with walnuts and spices. The last cold appetizer was a tasty version of soslu patlıcan, a dish of Turkish origin with mashed eggplant, tomatoes, and various other spices. There were also two variants of kutaba, which is a type of stuffed pancake. My preference, as per other times, was the meat version, which had lamb and onions inside and was topped with a generous amount of sumac. It was tender and well-filled, though I think the one at Village Cafe is a little bit better. There was also a good vegetarian version, which was refreshing and nice to eat in between bites of all the richer foods. The big platters came out next, consisting of their specialty, which are the various shashlik/shish kabobs. For this place in particular, the best type of kabob is their ridiculously good sturgeon with generously large pieces of grilled fish served with pomegranate molasses (of course,) along with rice and onions with some sumac on it. It is meaty and tender and perfectly grilled. There was also a large meat platter with very good chalahach/lamb chops, along with very tasty lulya (ground lamb,) chicken, beef, and some liver, which would be for some people a bit undercooked, but I found it to be fine. Other hot dishes included potatoes and mushrooms, along with some fries, which were fine, though I didn't really bother with them anyway, as I was already pretty stuffed. For more home-cooked dishes, I would probably recommend Village Cafe more, as there's more of a selection. However, if you're looking for grilled Central Asian style meats, I haven't found a better spot yet, and I've been to a large number of them, from Azeri spots like this one to Bukharan ones to other places.
