Wow, what a great experience at Opera in Sheepshead Bay. We went with a group of five people, and the first thing we noticed was that the restaurant was very spacious. Once we got seated, we started off with the cold appetizer platter, and everything that came on this platter was delicious. We did ask for more bread because we felt like we went through it very quickly, but they were more than happy to give us extra.   For my main meal, I went with the Lamb Adana Kebab, which came with a side salad, rice, and some pita bread. This meal was very tasty. I really enjoyed it.  In fact, all the food we ate was very good and I would go back to Opera for lunch or a nice dinner again. This is a good place if you were with a group of people or just going out on a date. They also have a beautiful outdoor section in the front of the restaurant for the summer months / nice weather days. read more

The place is located next to the canal on Sheepshead Bay. The Turkish restaurant is spacious with many tables inside and outside patio during summer. The staff is friendly and gives time to take orders, no rash. The place has a full bar with signature cocktails, but you can order almost anything. I recommend liver as an appetizer if you are into it; it was very tender and juicy. We had octopus salad from a special menu, and the meat was cooked well: tender, mildly sweet, and smooth. Our company also ordered their spread variety, and everything was perfect especially hummus vegetables, and there was red spicy paste. We also tried loaded baked potato, but it was more like mashed potato loaded with olives, sour cream, peas, beans, etc. Theaah was a little over, so it got that chewy consistency. For the main course, we shared a meat sample platter, and the meat was incredible. The downside of the restaurant was uncontrollable kids by their parents, not a restaurant falt. read more

Opera cafe was a good experience. They have a huge menu with lots of options. They had delicious drinks with a punch to them! After a long deliberation process I decided to get the shrimp with pasta and white wine sauce. It was delicious. Hot and fresh! We also enjoyed a lemon drop and side of signature cognac. We came during off hours assuming it would be less busy. but damn!! tables were still filled at odd hours. This is a very busy place and that shows a lot in how much customers trust this place. It is also very large. every 20 min, a bday song comes on! It seems like a happening bday spot. The food is very solid. Two hostesses to cover the front due to volume. Great atmosphere, service, and good food. I've been going for years, with only one disappointed visit (my lamb tasted a little funky). Made a reservation for Monday around 6:45Pm since we have two dogs we ask if we can eat outside at the patio. Outside patio is very nice in case it rain there a thing to close. There were big tables to sit more 10 people which is nice. We order Hummus, Buffalo Chicken wings (mild and spicy), Falafel Plate and Mozarella stick. This is for appetizers. For the main course we order different type of foods. I order the mixed grill. Which is very tasty. I actually finish all the foods. The restaurant itself is decorated nicely with the Turkish lamps and decor. I liked the indoor/outdoor motif but the food was mediocre and the service abysmal. Went with a group of friends only had our water refilled once. The waiter came by a total of two times the entire meal. We had to ask a bus boy for a check because he disappeared. The worst part was my friend ordered a falafel wrap they came out with 6 falafel balls and when she told them she ordered the wrap the server/food runner told her "there's nothing we can do" she was even willing to pay extra or make the wrap herself if they brought the lettuce and tomato on the side. Came for tea on a Friday night. It's packed. No tables. You'll likely have to wait. Their menu is huge and the food looks good. Service was very slow but I guess it's because it was a peak time for them. I had a pot of their crime of passion tea and it was delicious. They played the happy birthday song literally 17 times while we were there--I started keeping count at 3. We were there for under two hours. I would never, ever come back. The food was horrible. Lamb was tough & dry. Lamb doner was also very dry & bland. The Vegetables are frozen and simply warmed up, Branzino fish was extremely oily (not grilled) & bloody on the inside. Hummus was very salty and watered down with no true hummus or tahini flavors. I came to Opera 3x, and although I cannot recall my first two visits- my last one was pleasant. My Aunt wanted to come here for her birthday so we made reservations for 4 earlier in the day I believer. When we arrived we were offered outdoor heated seating but my party declined so we had to wait about 15 minutes or so to be seated. I didn't really care for the wait because it was weird just standing by the front door. But moving on from that, it took about 15 minutes after we were seated for a waiter to even come by to greet and take drink orders. I'm not going to lie, this also was annoying to me because I felt like we weren't valued. I mean I think that is a pretty universal feeling- that when you get seated and no one comes to even greet you it's like "why am I here?" Nonetheless the waiter that did take care of us was very nice and the food was very good and that is why I decided to give 4 stars because quality food and service for me is very important. I ordered the grilled salmon which came with salad .. wow it was grilled perfectly ! My dad ordered some type of stuffed baked potato. It looked good. They scooped out the potato and mashed/mixed it with cheese then added it back into the skin and topped it with like a Shepard salad. My dad didn't like the cold salad on top of the potato but he did enjoy it once separated. My aunts food came about 15 minutes after we all were served which is not pleasant considering everyone is already served and starting to eat but once she did get her food she was very happy with it. I think she got like a sizzling beef stew of some sort. They sang happy birthday to her upon request and that was a nice ending to a good dinner. So again even though there were some points of the evening that were displeasing to me the server and the food were both good quality. read more

Came here for brunch an a beautiful Saturday. Sat outside and it was really great! You're right across the street from the water and there are trees so it was very comfortable. Only thing that wasn't great was the cigarette smoke but the smokers seemed to enjoy it so if you want to smoke while you eat outside, this is a good place. Service was friendly but leisurely. If you're a regular, you'll likely get very attentive service; if not, you will probably have to flag someone down for anything you need (drinks, ordering, napkins, etc). For food, had a bloody mary, spinach gozleme and eggs benedict with salami. The drink was fine, not spicy at all. The gozleme was really good. Loved the crispiness of the pastry and the spinach filling was absolutely delicious. Eggs benedict was okay. Eggs were cooked well and the flavor was good, but the sauce on top wasn't very rich.
