One of the Better Kosher Milk Places in NY! Great ambiance! Very good range of items on the menu. I had the vegetable lasagna and it was delicious. The vegetables inside were left slightly al dente giving a nice crunch inside each bite. My only issue was with the service, it was very good but they dont function as a single waiter for each table but rather all servers help all tables. I find a disconnect happens when restaurants function this way and our dishes were brought out as they were made instead of served together as a meal. The owner was walking around and asking each table how they were doing and I like when owners do that. read more

I brought the family here for a celebratory dinner of my daughters HS graduation. We Ordered many items on the menu, including the tuna steak, ravioli, baked ziti and some others. The food was great and the service was superb! One of the Tuna steaks came well done instead of medium, so they took it back without hesitation, looks, complaints etc. The quickly replaced it with a medium tuna steak. The ravioli was very good, but the sauce seemed to be a vodka sauce, which I am not a fan of, but it was very good. I would come here again anytime we want to celebrate. Super polite staff, very well mannered and there was an older gentleman who kept trying to make my friend and I laugh - he was so nice. The food is pretty good, I highly recommend the mushroom ravioli in cream sauce and the mushroom drops. I don't think the sushi is the strongpoint here and perhaps should be removed off the menu because it seems a bit out of place. The french onion soup was nice but I needed to add salt. And the cappuccino cheesecake was really soft and delectable. It's completely kosher so if you have a friend who is very strict with that, this is the place to take them to. read more

Hands-down the best place to throw a party in Brooklyn, if not all of NYC. Hard to adequately describe the amazing party we had at Orchidea for my mom's milestone birthday - the private room was so beautifully decorated, the food so delicious, the service impeccable. All the guests raved about it - the artistic presentation of the food, the generous portions, the attentive service, the valet parking - everything! I had looked at several other restaurants for this special occasion, and was not excited about any of them, so I called Orchidea after reading the Yelp reviews (I had never been to Orchidea before). From the first call with Mazal I had a good feeling - she was warm, courteous and responsive. My experience only got better and better. I cannot say enough about Ofer - what a genuine pleasure to deal with. Made me feel so welcome from the minute I set foot in the restaurant for the first time, so generous with his time, so meticulous in every detail. He handled everything, and I want to mention in particular what a beautiful, tasteful job he did on the printed menus and the table settings. My mom was so impressed! I'm really not sure how this place has four stars. I went to Orchidea last night and was appalled at both the service and the food. While there was a party going on in the back room, the main floor of the restaurant was fairly empty. It took me ten minutes to waive someone down and the waiter who finally approached my table acted like he was in a hurry and interrupted our conversation a couple of times to talk to another staffer. This was typical of what I would experience here the whole night with people who seemed to not see us when we tried to catch their attention. I will say the place was fairly empty my friend and I were allowed to loiter at the table for a while which was pleasant. The main reason, though, that I'm giving Orchidea a 2 is because the food was terrible. I ordered two sushi rolls which, for basic rolls are expensive enough, and then was informed that in order to switch out the rice for cucumber (why was wrapping my rolls in seaweed not enough?) I would have to pay an additional $2.50 per roll. Now, as I've said in previous reviews, I don't care about the price: as long as I feel like I'm getting the quality that the price calls for. In case you don't know where I'm going with this: the food was subpar. I would not have paid $3 per roll. The fish tasted old, the wasabi even LOOKED old and dried out, and they were wrapped in so much cucumber that I could hardly taste the actual fish (which was a good thing, I later discovered when I got tired of all the cucumber and unwrapped my fish). I was somewhat concerned that I would get sick from the fish. My friend seemed to enjoy her portabella mushroom salad, and, as always, their bread is fantastic. read more

If it were up to me I would give this restaurant no stars. The service was horrible from the moment I stepped in to the place. I was there as a party of three and I did not get seated for 40 minutes. I ordered the tilapia sticks expecting a fine appetizer but that was not what I got. I recieved three pieces of fish sticks in a lemon for 20 dollars. That is so not acceptable for a fine dining kosher experience. I left dinner very unsatisfied and will definitely not go again. I was expecting more from this restaurant. read more

We just made our second party at Orchidea and were blown away by the service and attentiveness we were shown. I have pretty particular taste, and once I get an idea in my head I am determined to see it through. Mazal and Ofer met with me multiple times to go over everything and help me troubleshoot some of my more outlandish ideas. They were so patient and kind and never once made me feel like I was asking too many questions or making things difficult for them. There is a saying, "Say a little, do a lot". They epitomize that. I'm sure you've encountered businesses that try to do the bare minimum and make you feel like they're doing you a favor, I know I have. Orchidea is the exact opposite. They go above and beyond anything you would ever expect them to do, and they make you feel like it is their utmost pleasure. Our party was for 65 people and they set everything up down to the last detail. They allowed me to come the night before to run through how everything would look, so that I could come to my party and be a guest rather than a harried hostess. They even saved us a parking spot right in front of the entrance so that we wouldn't have to circle around. I never would've even dreamed of asking them to do that nor would I have even thought of it. Our guests kept raving about the food, and decor, but mostly they were impressed by the service. Every single staff member was polite and attentive, but not in that overly annoying way where you're in the middle of a conversation and they interrupt every 5 minutes. It was just perfect. At the end of the party Ofer and Mazal checked in with me to see how it went and I was at a loss for words. I don't think "perfect" or "thank you" accurately portrayed what I was feeling. It's not far from my house I come hear all the time. The food, the presentation, the staff, and the restaurant itself are all perfect. Each dish is a masterpiece of both art and flavor. And the desserts is on par with any patisserie. I've read numerous reviews about this place and wasn't sure if coming here would be a good idea, but I figured that I would give it a try anyway. I thought that this place was phenomenal. I was with my girlfriend when we decided to get a salmon dish and ravioli (mushroom +spinach) -- at first the portions looked like that of a pretentious establishment (=small and pretty), BUT they were surprisingly substantial. The salmon was perfectly balanced and was prepared to perfection. It came with mashed potatoes and edible decorative material next to it -- simple, yet satisfying. The ravioli was also prepared very well (most of the places I've been to really have to bring it to the next level!!!). That alone I would give 4 stars, but I was very impressed with the following: They served us a loaf of freshly prepared bread (on a cutting board), and KEPT a bottle of water on the table. It was much nicer that I didn't have to keep on bothering them for bread or water -- they let us be. Normally the restaurants walk around and pour a glass here and a glass there, sometimes they give a few pieces of bread -- but here, I didn't have to rely on the servers which was a very nice change. Also, in terms of efficiency (for those who walk around aimlessly), just give us the water bottle!! I must also add that- 1) the butter was high quality 2) the butter was actually butter (not mayonnaise!!) "Cafe muskat" in Queens calls garlic mayonnaise a delicacy, so I had to add that for those of you who may be confused. Returned last night to Orchidea with my husband and a good friend of ours. In fact we treated our friend to dinner. The staff was friendly, but not as attentive as in the past. I ordered a white Black Russian which was delicious. For appetizers I had the fried sea bass. My husband had the fish duo and our friend had the vegetable soup. All the appetizers were delicious. I then ordered the French onion soup. Unfortunately it was not as good as the last time we were there. The soup was very salty. For mains my husband had the vegetable soup, our friend had the eggplant parmigiana with pasta and I had the stuffed lemon sole with salad & baked potato. As I stated before the staff was not as attentive as in the past spit took awhile to get sour cream for my potato. The pasta on my friend's dish was dry & again it took a long time to get more pasta sauce. It also took a while to get their attention for a glass of wine. My fish was good. For desserts my husband had chocolate ice cream, I had the napoleon & our friend had the fruit platter. Every dessert was beautifully presented, however the napoleon was difficult to eat. The atmosphere was nice, the staff was friendly, the service last night was a bit slow. There are no good dairy restaurants in Brooklyn. For the most part the food last night was delicious so we will definitely return. read more

It's fried, but really delicious. Ambiance: A bit small when I came because they were having a party, but hey, it's Brooklyn -- expect small. Nice music playing and waiters are cordial. Felt a little rushed by the people who were waiting. Perhaps management should keep them in the small corridor area leading to the restaurant so that guests don't feel bad that others are waiting on them. Overall: Nice place to go. Great food. I went here last night for a birthday celebration, and was here a few years ago. The food is OK, and the service was really good. Our sushi tasted a bit funny and he offered to exchange it for another roll free of charge. I think their prices are quite high, the food isn't THAT great to be that expensive. Came here for dinner after a friends suggestion and a groupon deal. The place was busy and the gentleman at the front desk was very kind, helped me get my phone charged. We were seated immediately. Tables are fairly close to each other but situated in a way where you have some privacy. The food was ok. Based on just that I would have given this a 3/5 rating. The rest of the experience wasn't bad, just not pleasant and not how I'd spend my night/money again. We ordered the mozzarella basket, broccoli fettuccine and a sushi pizza. For drinks we got a piña colada. The mozzarella basket was delicious. It was a nice size and interesting flavors and textures. It was my favorite thing of the night. The fettuccine was ok, it's not something I'd order again . there is so much potential for pasta to be amazing so eh pasta was just disappointing. I never order pasta but made an exception for the carbs and calories, I wish I hadn't. I was expecting the pasta to have a white cream sauce but this had a tomato base. I mentioned this while ordering but it could have been a language barrier, and honestly I should have read the menu. (The bf liked this dish the best of the night , but this isn't his review). The sushi pizza was bad. No taste and smaller than a rice cake, for $12 I was expecting more. The pina colada was awful too. It was made with vodka and no rum and it was way too strong. the bf found it too strong too and he works on wall st. (Lots of drinks with coworkers). A few things that were odd: All the tables got a bread platter that our waiter didn't offer us. There was a lady asking tables how the food was etc, but didn't ask us. There was no wine menu. The Pina colada was on the menu priced at eight dollars but on the bill they charged us 12. What I didn't like- waiter didn't ask if we needed anything, or how the food was, or if everything was OK. We had an untouched drink on the table. Every other place I've been to the waiter would ask if everything was OK if they saw something ordered but not eaten. They automatically add a 20% tip to your bill which is why I assume there isn't much motivation for good service. I assume the Groupon is overwhelming business as well and perhaps the waiters are overworked. Last , it took a full 7 minutes for me to get the waiters attention to ask for the check. Very average , it used to be much better I would grade the restaurant as follows: Service gets a C-, the waiters just dont care anymore because tip is already included in the bill. Some are more pleasant than others. No one stops by to ask how the meal is going, they dont even pretend to care. I was pleased with them for service: I forgot my phone there and went back to the restaurant to get it- they were super nice ...also they charged the phone for me in case I would call it!!! sushi appetizers-weird-ish. but since i was hungry i had some. bread: whatever. bruschetta: whatever. they're not italian, don't blame them pasta with alfredo sauce/mushroom: totally edible. But it's similar to nonkosher canned pasta. I only had a couple bites, somehow it grossed me out just a little bit. grilled tilapia? (i forget what type of fish it was): pretty good! desserts: don't get the napoleon- it's not a normal napoleon. The cheesecake and tiramisu were fine. Would I go here again for a non-work dinner? We frequent kosher restaurants on a regular basis but we are appalled .we waited way to long to be served and my son was literally disgusted when he was served his sushi roll with black hairs on the plate. He lost his appetite. Last but not least the same incident happened at desert!!! Won't be eating there again read more

This is a total oasis of a restaurant in Borough Park. The have nice white table clothes with fancy table settings. It is completely kosher and vegetarian friendly. We got the buffet and enjoyed their sushi, along with pasta, fresh vegetables, delicious vegetable soup, blintzes, tofu spring rolls, salmon, and much more. We celebrated a a co-worker's birthday here and was surprised with the firecracker candle display that accompanied the mélange of desserts. They also broke out a recording of happy birthday on some blue tooth device- totally festive and out of control. Imagine all this in a 100% kosher jewish restaurant. I tried the lunchtime buffet here. There was a nice array of foods. I had mostly Caesar salad, cheese blintzes, and eggplant parmigiana. The eggplant was very good, although there was no grated parmesan cheese. The blintzes were the best thing on the buffet. Caesar salad had a nice flavorful dressing. The reason most people go out to eat is to feel pampered and indulged. If that is what you are looking for, go elsewhere. Where to begin? The waiters and busboys seemed nice upon our arrival and I was seated promptly even without a reservation. I placed my order promptly and the appetizers arrived within 10 minutes and they tasted very good. When we finished eating the appetizers and our plates were removed from the table, we expected the entrees to arrive within 7-10 minutes. After waiting 30 minutes, we asked our waiter (who had not ONCE come over to explain the long wait) where our food was? He told us, in an exasperated tone "It's coming!". After another 10 minutes, the entrees arrived. That's a total of 40 minutes of waiting for only TWO entrees. The pasta was very good; however, I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. It looked delicious, however the taste and texture were TOTALLY off!! It tasted very fishy, it was watery and spongy in texture. As if it had been frozen. So I called over a busboy (because our waiter was too busy tending to tables who had more diners and didn't bother coming to ask us how everything was) and told him the fish does not taste good. He called the maître d' who called the manager. When I explained to the manager that the fish tasted frozen, he gave me a whole argument about how Chilean Sea bass has to be frozen for at least 24 hours before it's cooked or it will fall apart. This is completely untrue!! The chef should know how to cook FRESH FISH so that it won't fall apart. They took it off my bill and I did not order anything else instead. The restaurant was quite empty so I was surprised that the service was so bad! We got a dessert menu, (also from a busboy) and ordered a trio of desserts. The mini Napoleon was fine. The mini cheesecake was totally dried out and crusty on top and tasted freezer-burnt. The Tiramisu had extremely soggy cake with cream in between the layers, and was also dried out on top. For a $15 dessert, you would think it would be a bit fresher. Then when we refused to pay the tip (the service was horrible! Waited 15 minutes for the bill after we asked for it TWICE), we got an argument from the cashier who had to talk to the manager who allowed him to remove the tip. Overall, I would not recommend this place, as it seems like they only service well large tables or events, and a 2 person dinner gets no attention nor good service. read more

I had my baby shower at orchidea and I could not have picked a better place!!!!! From the first time I met with Mazal, she was so attentive and generous. She took notes and made sure to ask me all the right questions making sure my event went smoothly. She offered me advice and various places I can order personalized desserts and cakes from. She is very knowledgable and makes you feel at ease! I was very anxious and she always reassured me that everything would be wonderful and she would make sure of That. The day of my party I was so happy to see how beautiful everything was. The waiters and waitresses were amazing and attentive too. The table set up and restaurant looked absolutely beautiful!!!! Mazal was right there to answer any questions I had or to add or take care of anything else I needed. She was easily accessible and available whenever I needed her. WOW, WOW, AND WOW!!!! last week i made my daughters bridal shower at Orchidea restaurant. Ofer and Mazal were wonderful. their attention to detail is utter perfection. they told me not to worry and they were right. the food was great. from salads, sushi, delectable appetizers, fish, pasta- I've never tasted better. their presentation was spectacular. they never stopped refilling the food serving dishes.. the waiters and waitresses were very gracious. all of my guests, and i mean all, told me that not only was it the best shower that they ever went to but it was the best food that they ever ate..The desserts were scrumptious. the cappuccino was amazing. Every detail was taken on amazingly. they even provided valet parking. Ofer placed each napkin himself . he is an artist. Mazal is like family. i was on vacation and she told me not to worry about the shower. the flowers were lovely. there was wine on every table. they even prepared a beautiful bench for the bride and groom to sit on with their gifts all around them. Mazal and Ofer made each of my guests feel, especially me and the bride , like princesses for the day. in all honesty, this is the ONLY place for a simcha, happy occasion. i will definitely make my daughters shevaa berachot here. i highly recommend this establishment as the premier restaurant and party place in all of new york!! read more
