I would have given this place 4 stars but service wasn't that great. Cute place with a nice menu and decent prices . They brought out my breakfast but then manager came over to say they messed up my friends omelette . Over 25 minutes later they brought hers out. By then mine was cold as you feel bad eating when the other person has no food. The right thing to do would have been to not charge us for the omelette , but nope full check . We were really excited to come eat at this small diner but since we came in the vibes were off. We stood confused where to sit since everyone kinda just stared . We sat and ordered . I ordered my daughter a spaghetti and meatballs but im not sure if she heard or not but she rang it as just a kids marinara pasta. We asked if we could add a meatball as a side since our daughter really only likes meatballs with spaghetti but it was a whole thing. She said we had to order regular spaghetti and meatballs not the kids one, but we didn't mind having to pay more whether it was ringing up the meatballs as a side or just charging us the regular plate. It was more of the weirdness and awkward blaming that caught us off guard? Had they told us when I was first ordering it wouldn't be possible we would've gotten her a different meal no problem. We could just hear in the background loudly the back and forth about adding a meatball for my 5 year old, saying yes no call the boss yes and then no. THIEF!!!!! My brother and I have been buying gift certificates to Jimmy's for almost 2 decades for our now 95 year old grandfather. He lost his wife decades ago and it was a way for him to get a hot meal prepared for him. Our grandfather was a regular customer. Every holiday we would but a $50 gift certificate...father's day, birthday, christmas, etc. Over the years we've probably spent close to $1000...My mom brought my grandfather in with $175 left on the gift certificate a few months ago the owner said he won't honor the gift certificates anymore because they were from 2012. Diner cheesecake is always the best. Today I went to get a lox & cream cheese bagel. I was very surprised. Jimmy's Place has been around Dyker Heights for a long time. My grandmother used to buy their doughnuts quite frequently and I can't imagine how many times I'd been there with her growing up. Not too long ago, they moved into a newly renovated space a couple of doors down from where they used to be and it became more of a diner and less of a take-away place. With a pretty wide variety of items offered on their menu, and a friendly staff and good prices, this is a reliable and fun choice on 13th Avenue. I have gone a few times for breakfast recently and everything is good. The pancakes kind of taste like doughnuts (as pointed out by my friend visiting from California), but I don't mind that. They have great omelets and sides also and their lunch and dinner menu is extensive and looks typical for a diner, but the prices are reasonable and I should go and try it. Of course, there are free refills on the coffee, and the wait staff is friendly and welcoming. You can tell this place is frequented and well-liked by many locals, so it's kind of a novelty to me since I miss being around the Old Brooklyn type of people sometimes. Okay, I had to edit my review from yesterday after having a really horrible meal from here. I don't know what happened - the first time I visited this place I thought it was great. Then every following visit it seemed to get worse and worse - mostly, I really didn't like the staff. Talk about unfriendly and bare bones service. Need a refill on your water or some more hot water for you tea? Forget about them ever visiting your table again after they drop off your food - you'll have to flag them down. I had wanted some tea with my meal and saw they had some herbal teas lined up behind the counter, I couldn't see what the boxes said, so I asked the waitress if she could tell me. She insisted it was chicken parm, whatever. Same thing I suppose. I have never had to spit food out at a restaurant. But that's exactly what happened as a took a bite and chewed on some tough chicken. I thought at first it must be undercooked. If I could, I'd give 0 or at best 1/2 star. This place is only good if you literally have no where else to go or order from. They ALWAYS get your order wrong. Ok went here for late sunday dinner. Place was empty. Ordered the cheeseburger i asked the waitress to pls make it medium also oredered the shrimp scampi. Ok so heres why 1 star. I waited 40 min. And asked waitress if food is coming ??? She seemed anoid and came back said 1 min. It took another 10 min. I get the most tiny burger and a very small portion shrimp scampi with 2 shrimp sliced in half so it can look like i have 4. The burger was super well done. Obviously if it was cooking for 50 min. I returned it the waitress ran to owner he didnt care. Long story short i went to macdonalds and ate big burgers compared to jimmys. And ended up paying 22$for the tiny scampi portion.
