Between two people. Got the Classic Nachos ($12), Veggie Burrito ($16), and a Spicy Margarita ($16). Margarita comes out first, okay amount of tequila and a hint of jalapeno flavor. Nachos aren't as large as expected, just a handful of chips individually covered in cheese with guacamole/salsa in the middle. Burrito is a lot better, filled with an assortment of marinated vegetables and topped with a verde sauce. They do provide for sauce as well. Some things here are better priced. I came in here the last time with my hot woman friend. It was already pretty busy so there were only bar stools open. The place isn't that big so it fills quick. It's especially busy at happy hour. This was going on when we got there. I had a Tecate in a can. It was about $3 at happy hour. They have some excellent margaritas. It's about $5 for these at happy hour. They also have many other food specials. I had a good experience with the food. My choice was the vegetable tacos. These are entirely made from vegetables. In search of Margaritas, we found Vera Cruz and I'm glad we did! I actually started off with a Paloma $14, but then realized the margaritas were $5 on happy hour, so I switched over for my next one. I love sitting at the bar, mingling with the bartenders and watching them create cocktails. Ash was teaching one of the other bartenders so it was cool to watch. We ordered Flautas de Pollo, and the tacos that were on happy hour, a $2 beef for my friend and mushroom for me. Also ordered chips and salsa of course. We had a great time, so great I only remembered we ordered the flautas cause I have photos. :) Everything was great, service, food and drinks! A friend of mine has a two-state rule when it comes to Mexican food. He grew up in California and says that all of the best Mexican food occurs within two states of Mexico. AND, they asked if we wanted salt or not, which is always nice. Considering how busy the waitress was, I was kind of surprised at her dedication to getting it right as opposed to just getting it out and getting on with the rest of her tables. I had the Vegetable Enchiladas ($10). It had a nice mix of vegetables, with more than just peppers and onions. The rice and beans were delicious. It could have used more of a sauce, as it was a bit dry. The salsa was decent, so I'd ask for a side of that to accompany the dish. We had places to be and were already late, so we didn't get too adventurous with the appetizers or desserts, but I'd go back to this place to try some other stuff. She recommended the watermelon-lime agua fresca - it was fresh and delicious, and I would love to get margs here on my next visit! My friend Julie and I stopped by VeraCruz last night after a walking tour of her part of Wberg. I had a craving for Mexican after a weekend full of Asian foods so after our walk we stopped here for some comida. I have to say I have had better Mexican food but VeraCruz is still pretty tasty. The Flautas de pollo con salsa verde was pretty tasty. Came with arroz con frijoles (rice and beans) for about $10 as did the Enchiladas del Pollo con salsa rojo (Chicken enchiladas with red sauce). They have sweet Iced Tea which was pretty delicious and fried ice cream, which I was very excited about BUT, decided wasn't worth the calories and fat for the flavor. The atmosphere in VeraCruz is pretty sexy. Rustic style Mexican ambiance, when I walked in, I felt like it was a place Zoro would have taken Cathrine Zeta Jones to. She had enchiladas and i had pork tacos, btw she says her food was decent but mine was salty. I wasn't a big fan of the sangria since I felt like it was too watery for my liking. We then ordered some food. I ordered the early bird special, which is offered Monday through Friday until 7PM. Not too sure what time it starts. Nonetheless, it includes a soup/salad and an entree for $10. I ordered the lime chicken soup, which was delicious, and a chicken enchilada. The enchilada came with yellow rice & red beans. The enchilada was okay. The food wasn't as hot as I would've liked it to be.... more like room temp. Also, the enchiladas weren't as spicy as I would've liked. My boyfriend had a chorizo quesadilla. I tried a piece of it & it was really good. Vera Cruz is an ok restaurant. The employees are jovial and friendly, and some of the food is really good. I've gotten dinner there a few times and I've had: 1) Steak Torta-Delicious. The avocado, the cheese, the steak, all delicious. My one complaint about the dish would be that the steak comes in the form of a patty. I would much rather have chopped steak on my torta (a la tacos or faijitas); also, the salad that comes along with this dish is to DIE for. 2) Shrimp Ceviche-Refreshing and delicious. 3) Shrimp Queso Fundido-Not so great. The shrimp wasn't so fresh. 4) Chicken Enchiladas-Poor. Dried out chicken, flavorless, definitely a skippable dish. Overall, it's an ok restaurant, but just ok. Staff is great , drinks are great , food is great. Great place to start your night and or finish your night. Bacon guacamole is amazing with House made chips. A burger in a Mexican joint I was skeptical but it was the best burger I had, juicy with Mexican cheese and steak fries. You can also remix your dishes with out no problem.
