1:30am I arrived with a few friends, and it really felt like a lively Saturday night. The Spanish music created such a warm atmosphere, and they played some of the popular hits too! The food was absolutely delightful, and the ambiance was so charming--it truly made for a wonderful experience.
If you're tired of the massive lines at the more "famous" taco spots in Manhattan, McOndo Los Tacos on Grand Street is the neighborhood gem you've been looking for. While many newer spots have popped up recently, McOndo has been a staple of the Williamsburg/East Williamsburg border since it opened in 2013, offering a laid-back vibe and some of the most consistent Mexican food in Brooklyn. The Best Tacos: Shrimp Tacos: Often cited as the star of the menu. They are plump, perfectly seasoned, and served with a generous portion of fresh guacamole. Steak (Asada): The meat is well-seasoned and tender, avoiding the "chewy" pitfall many street tacos fall into. Al Pastor: Classic, juicy, and topped with the essential pineapple for that sweet-and-savory balance. Special Mention: Their Steak Nachos are legendary in the neighborhood--don't be surprised if they become your new "death row meal." The Sauces & Heat: McOndo doesn't skimp on the flavor. Their Salsa Verde is bright, tangy, and adds a refreshing lift to the heavier meats. For those who like a challenge, their Red Salsa packs a serious, smoky punch. If you're ordering delivery, they are known for sending plenty of extra sauce containers--a rare and appreciated trait in NYC. Atmosphere: It's a chic, narrow bar/taqueria with a "cool neighborhood" energy. It's perfect for a date or a late-night bite (they are often open until 1:00 AM or later). Drinks: Their Margaritas and Palomas are strong and fresh, making it a great happy hour spot. Outdoor Seating: They have a great sidewalk setup that's perfect for people-watching on Grand Street during the warmer months. Pro Tip: Unlike many "cash-only" old-school spots, they accept credit cards, which makes it an easy choice for a spontaneous dinner.
I came during a Sunday afternoon for the bottomless brunch and I really liked it! We had mimosas, huevos rancheros and chiliquiles and they were all pretty good. The huevos rancheros could have had more seasoning, but I liked it overall! I'm a pescatarian, so I wish the menu said the huevos rancheros came with meat (chorizo), but luckily it was on the side. Overall a positive experience.
One of my favorite taco spots. I have to drive from all the way Long Island to get good tacos like this because there's nowhere else. I really know that has tacos that taste like this. It isn't that much season but at the same time it taste really good and authentic. I love that they put the guacamole inside of the tacos as well and they always have specials taco Tuesdays has great specials and they have pictures and they give free shots on certain days. Service is good as well even though some servers don't speak full English properly they're still nice and accommodate it's a chill environment and I usually go next-door to new Apollo's as well to bring a drink home.
This was the first restaurant we went to when we got to Williamsburg in Brooklyn. And, it was a good choice. Mcondo Tacos is neat, clean, and bright (at least during the lunch hour). They have a full bar, which we didn't partake of, and a nice menu. We ordered soft drinks, then two of us ordered tacos. One of us had the fish tacos and I had the Cochinitas Pibil. I'd never had that before - it is Carnitas, Orange, cilantro, onions, and habanero pickles. They put a schmear of guacamole on the top of their tacos and roll them up like you see in the pictures. We unwrapped our tacos and they were among the best I've had. The Cochinitas Pibil was spicy - those habanero pickles added heat and flavor. The Carnitas were tender, and the rest of the ingredients blended together to form this wonderful taste. The size of the tacos are also generous. We were prepared with cash in hand after reading some of the other reviews. I don't understand how you can go to a restaurant and give them a poor review when the responsibility is yours to figure out how to pay before you go. I think Mcondo Tacos was an excellent establishment.
Tacos tacos tacos! I tried so many tacos and this place wins for the most avocado in a taco. Never tried a taco with that much avocado so that's a plus! You know you're getting your money's worth. The thing about the taco is that it is kind of on the bland side. It doesn't have much seasoning and enough salt but it is alright for me since they have salsa verde and red chili sauces on the side. They gave me two salsa verde and one red chili. It was enough for two tacos but wish they gave one more hot chilli sauce because I had to use the sauces wisely on my two tacos since I had two salsa verde and 1 hot chili Apart from the tacos, I also ordered salsa chips with guacamole and salsa. The guacamole was fresh and very green. None of it was mushy and brown. The salsa was kind of weird when I opened the lid. It was all water which was unexpected. I didn't realize that it was going to be all water with no tomatoes. It was really water down with little onions. Chips were oily and warmed. Overall this place is good when it comes to the guacamole
Idk why it's taken me so long to try this place because its so close to where I live and I love mexican food. I gotta say, this place exceeded my expectations. This has my stamp of approval as someone who was raised in san diego and used to live in mexico for a hot minute. I highly recommend their mini nachos with green salsa!
Our waitress was very sweet. Everything tasted so good. I was a big fan of the sweet plantain taco, the mixture of the sweetness with the avocado was good. My fish bowl was a bigger portion than I thought it would be but had great flavor. I couldn't even finish it. Perfect Mexican spot for a late night run. I also had the espresso martini which was a bit on the sweeter side but I still enjoyed it. I would definitely come back.
--*Cash ONLY establishment* - they have an ATM machine inside, which they say has "no fees," and the machine only offers digital receipts, so you have to scan a QR code to get a receipt. I passed on that and just checked my banking app instead. ---outdoor seating closes at 10pm ---no paper menus (QR code only - normalized since COVID) As for the food: We were served cold rice and beans and tastesless, runny sour cream. Steak fajitas typically come with sour cream and cheese in my experience. Here it costs extra (see receipt). Chips with guac or salsa are typically complimentary. Here, it costs $5.95. Plaintains with tasteless mole sauce (overpriced at almost $10). And then, for mediocre food and service that was not exceptional, there was an 18% gratuity ($13.92) added on, which is ridiculous. Their prices are their prices, but this was not a $98 meal (for two). Upon request, they did remove the gratuity. I wouldn't recommend based on the quality of food. This is coming from someone who ate all the things in Mexico City and Oaxaca, México earlier this year.
Friendly staff, clean interior and cash only. I got fries and the barbacoa burrito with goat meat. The fries were made fresh and hot. The burrito was band, didn't have any flavor. I couldn't bother to eat it all.
Mcondo Tacos was described to me by a local as a low key spot with the best nachos. High praise and I wasn't sure - until I had the most perfectly crafted steak nachos I've ever had. Fully constructed, each chip has its own full range of ingredients on it with melted cheese to tie it all together - they were just beautiful and so delicious. Pairing that with a paloma, it was a great way to start of the meal. The tacos were honestly very great! I got the cunchanita pibil and the chorizo tacos. Bursting with sauce and meat, they were very good and did remind me of LA street tacos. Only drawback was that they were very greasy. It was almost a fountain that spurted out when I ate the chorizo. I would definitely go back for a low key hang or a date as the food was good, they were playing James Bond on the TV which was cool, but the cash only and price point are major knocks against this place.
We totally just walked by this place in search of the warriors game. They have a big tv. We basically took it over since there are 10 of us from a wedding. Our wedding party is two blocks away and starting at 6. Came in here to root for the warriors Mango margarita is of the hook. So is the Al pastor taco. Comes with guacamole $4.95. Delicious.

Holy moly this place was delicious. I thoroughly enjoyed stopping by on my short visit to New York. The street corn was great, though I prefer a sweeter tasting one. The plantains were phenomenal, sweet, and crispy. Birria tacos were delicious. Guacamole delicious. My steak quesadilla didn't stand out to me but still good. Our server brought us three complimentary cups of "water" at the end of our meal which was a fun surprise. Loved the LED lights in the bathroom lol! read more

The weekend bottomless brunch is $29.99pp for 60 minutes and the deal ends at 4pm. It automatically adds 20% gratuity. We chose to do mimosas with huevos rancheros and chilaquiles (without sour cream and cheese). The huevos rancheros came with a side of chorizo which was an unexpectedly pleasant surprise. I think it made the dish taste better bc the beans lacked a bit of flavor and it definitely needed that extra salt from the chorizo. The chilaquiles were okay but I enjoyed it better with the chorizo from the huevos rancheros. Only small issue to nitpick is that the eggs had a piece of eggshell on top but it was easy to pick off. We also added on an order of fish and carnitas tacos because we enjoyed the atmosphere inside and wanted to stay longer. The fish taco was a bit fishy but not too bad for what it was. The carnitas also had a weird aftertaste that I didn't like. I've had better but it wasn't entirely off putting. I will note that there were a lot of fatty pieces, which may be a preference issue. I know some places tend to include lots of fat but I don't particularly like the texture so I picked off a lot of it. Note: The cilantro is included in the guacamole so if you ask for no cilantro, they won't add the guacamole on top. Luckily, our server was very nice and understanding. She provided the guac on the side after I asked for it even after ordering the taco without cilantro. Our server was very attentive in the beginning and checked on us pretty often to ensure our drinks were refilled. read more

This restaurant is Amazing! Did I emphasize that enough? We've been going through pretty much hard times with this pandemic but one thing I've never stopped doing was eating! I'm very picky and particular when it comes to Mexican food, especially carnitas. I love mine shredded and soft and this place gets the job done with tons of flavor. I've tried many things here and EVERYTHING is delicious. The chicken flautas are pretty dry but it doesn't lack flavor that's for sure. When you can taste the aromatics in all of the food, you know it's going to be the bomb. My favorite items are the nachos, Elote, anything carnitas and Chimichanga. The salsa verde is also a huge hit. I always get extra. If you're anything like me and don't like too much spice, the salsa verde is perfect and addicting. I'm always ordering delivery through Uber eats and they're always so wonderful and on time even during the snow storm! Remember to tip BIG during inclement weather. This place is well worth it. Happy Customer : ) read more
We need to celebrate the nachos. I love nachos and when they arrived at the table I was floored at the perfection of them. Every nacho was individually layered with all the toppings, so every bite is a perfect bite. Next time, I am just ordering nachos for dinner. I tried the veggie torta as well and it was also delicious but the nachos really outshined. They were so good I forgot to take a picture..! read more

Family friendly menu! If you're looking to get a fresh margarita, tacos & guac, plus feed your cranky kids pancakes with scrambled eggs and crispy bacon all together... this is the spot. We fed our family of 5 including a margarita and spicy michelada for $120 today with zero buyer's remorse. Highly recommend if you need a chill lunch spot and are craving both Mexican and breakfast foods. Generous portions also. read more
Great restaurant for anyone looking for quality drinks and banging tacos. On Tuesday's, they have a 2 tacos + margarita deal ($12.95 for 12 oz, $14.95 for 16 oz). There are about 5 or 6 outdoors tables on the sidewalk, so you do have to be lucky to get one. Waited about 10/15 minutes max for the tacos, but the drinks were ready right away. They only take cash or Venmo. The strawberry margarita was hitting! It was a bit strong but after giving it a good shaking, I was able to really enjoy it. I also started "feeling it" after a few sips, but I was also operating on an empty stomach. My friend really enjoyed her mango flavored margarita. As for the tacos, I must say, I was super impressed. They were all filled with meat/seafood of choice, no skimping. The enchilada taco only had 1 piece that was super fatty and unable to be eaten. Other than that, all the other pieces of pork had a nice outer crunch. The fish taco was seasoned well (the fish has an orange color to it). Lastly, the tinga (chicken) did have a little spice to it, but nothing that I would consider "spicy." The tacos are served with cucumbers, limes, and green and red salsa. Normally I'm all about all about hot salsa, but the squeeze of lime and green salsa was all I needed. Shredded cheese is an extra charge and they serve it on the side instead of in the taco. My only critiques are that cheese came on the side instead of in the taco and that the guacamole was not spread evenly throughout the tacos (as you can see in the pics, it's focused heavily on the front end). However, these are very minor. This is a must return place. Both my friend and I ended up ordering the 2 tacos + 12 oz margarita deal to-go because we were so impressed with what we ate prior. I will pay that Verrazano toll just to get these tacos again! read more

1 star for homemade chips, flour tortilla, and passionfruit margarita. I haven't been this mad about a meal in as long as I can remember. The flour tortilla is handmade and tasty. It was a burrito size....but why was it cut into tiny triangles? Who needs triangles of tortilla?? Just make a taco sized tortilla. My mixed fajita bowl, while quite large, was incredibly bland. The only part with any flavor was the mushrooms. 4 tiny overcooked rubbery shrimp. Beef that tasted like nothing - not even just good beef. Tasteless rice and beans. The "queso fundido" is so insulting that I started laughing hysterically like it was a prank. Nope, jokes on me for paying $13 for congealed shredded cheddar on top of soupy beans. I can't believe we are out $100 for two people. It's so incredibly disappointing. I was ready to hike back to the restaurant but figured they wouldn't do anything. It was cash only. Run. Run away. read more
Woowoowowowow! I'm rarely in this area but these tacos were super good. They are very generously portioned and I'm usually a die hard al pastor fan, which I loved, but the chicken tinga was equally flavorful and juicy. $4 is not a bad price at all considering the taste and size. I ordered through Grubhub and it had 25% off my first order, however I would definitely come back to eat in with friends. They did have a outdoor dining set up so that's an option. read more
Great outdoor dining setup - individual booth ( but also means limited seatings). The server was very friendly and attentive. Food portion is huge so don't over order. Definitely try the elote! For drinks, go with the coquito. Everything under the entree was good..and if you are considering tacos, just don't get the fish tacos. It was just okay. We had so much fun here that we even got some tequila shots! read more
Food and drink were both great. Service is really good. Wasn't mad at the light seasoning on the steak - let the quality of the tortillas and guac come through. Steak should speak for itself with a salt and pepper ... my humble... and it did here. Bar mistress is a beast pushing out drinks and the decor is Mexican hipster... lol. One question I had was the dimness, lack of lighting. Seemed odd but my reviews are about the food ... and I'd say it's pretty darn good. I probably won't be back to BK in some time but if you're in the Williamsburg area, check this spot out. read more

As a former Texan now living in Brooklyn, I know to keep my expectations low when it comes to Mexican and TexMex food here in the city. But McOndos has to be the most unsatisfying attempt at Mexican food I've ever had. Low grade, bland steak and fajitas meat. Bland rice and beans. Queso fundido is supposed to be just one of the most wonderful experiences. How can you mess up delicious melted cheeses? McOndos "queso fundido" was a blob of melted cheddar on top of oozing liquid black beans. What? The tortillas straight up made me laugh. I guess they only know how make one size of tortilla - big burrito ones. So for tacos and meals, they take a big burrito one and cut it into four triangles . Most disappointing meal. I can't believe I paid $100 for all that for two people. read more

Great place with great prices and food! One of the first places I went to once I moved to the area. There is indoor and outdoor sitting available, but have only sat indoors. Service is ok, i've had mixed experiences so far. We've tried a few things, but my favorites are the nachos, the tinga tacos and pastor tacos! The sizes are super generous for the tacos, just 2 will fill you right up!!! The nachos are also delicious, extremely packed with toppings for everyone to enjoy. Do note that this place is CASH ONLY!! There is an ATM in the store so that's super convenient (supposedly doesn't charge a feed but i'm pretty sure it does. Overall, recommend and will be coming here as much as I can!! read more
Brooklyn!! This corner taco place is a must for anyone who is in the mood for good down to earth Mexican food! Elote was on the spot - pour some hot sauce (homemade) over it if you like it spicy. I would recommend after the main meal go straight for the dessert do not miss it. They are home made from scratch (family recipe)! Great spot in Brooklyn to do something chill with one friend or a big group! Interior: Has a big table in the back if you need a bigger party. Came on a weekend and it was super chill. Food: Chicken Tortas: So good! Very tasty and plenty for just one person. Steak Taco: It's like a cone shape taco with plenty of guacamole! So I'm sold! Overall: I would come back here because it seems like a low key spot with good food and drinks! Just a good place to chill or if you want a plan B for the night! read more

This place was great, really friendly service, good food. Nachos were great. Might be the best I ever had. I don't know what they're putting in these things but they are fuego. Definitely recommend getting the nachos if you go. Cash only, but free ATM for customers so it's just kind of a hassle. Ultimately, if you're looking for a sit down mexican place in williamsburg, I can would recommend this place. You won't be disappointed. read more
