From the outside I didn't know this was Friducha. It only says it on the window if you look closely, and I didn't see the sign anywhere else. Once walking inside it wasn't crowded. I'm not sure if you need reservations, but there's plenty of walk-in seating. This place isn't fancy and very casual. They have a lot of murals or paintings of Frida Kahlo on the walls in different outfits. I couldn't decide what to eat as everything sounded so good on the menu. It was all very affordable too. For the table, we got the grilled corn on the cob, the guacamole mocajete (which they make in front of you), mar y tierra platter (shrimp & skirt steak combo with beans and rice), and churros with vanilla ice cream. This place is so cute. The staff was extremely friendly. The host sat us as quickly as possible. We only went there for drinks but ended up getting nachos as an appetizer. They have one of the best nachos I've ever had. The drinks were delicious. The passion fruit marg was too sweet for me but I added in an extra shot which made it better. It was enough for 5 of us to have a glass and a couple people to have seconds. We shared chips and salsa. The salsa was a bit watery and not very flavorful. I liked the thickness of their chips. For my main, I got the veggie tacos with nopal. An order came with three tacos. Each taco was served with two corn tortillas so they held all the ingredients well. The dish came with a mild salsa, which was tasty. I asked for hot sauce as well. It was super spicy and topped off the dish nicely. Stopped by for a quick bite before my visit to Transmitter Park. I was in the mood for a spicy brunch to get the Sunday vibe kicking. I searched Yelp to locate a Mexican restaurant that was close to the park and as fast as you can snap castanets and say Frida Kahlo three times, Friducha popped up. Friducha really pays homage to Frida by way of interesting murals painted on the walls and there is a picture of her from the Philadelphia Art Museum. Thus, at first glance, I think authenticity. I was in the mood for Brunch, which is served until 2pm. I reviewed the Specials which included numerous egg options but decided on the Chicken Tinga Tacos and chips and salsa to start. Then a Horchata,which I find very refreshing, to soothe the spicy palate. The chips and salsa came out rather quickly.. which I spotted the waiter taking them out from a cooler. I don't know about your chips and salsa preference but I like my chips a bit caliente not cold. So, that was a bit disappointing because it leads me to believe the chips are store bought? Hmmm.. the salsa was just okay, a bit watery. I prefer Salsa that is chunky and has a kick to it. The tacos and Horchata arrived immediately after. The Horchata was sweet and refreshing with a bit of cinnamon that enhanced the flavor. The Chicken Tinga Taco plate consisted of three delicious chicken tacos adorned with well seasoned chicken, cilantro and a really vibrant chipotle sauce and.... a side of peppers and onions that require a fire extinguisher. Well is this Frida Kahlo worthy authentic Mexican cuisine? It's a 50-50 verdict.. For a sit down Mexican restaurant it's not bad. Free chips and salsa and a full bar. No lunch specials but the burritos are big and smothered. I love the red sauce on the shrimp burrito (el picoso), I get it every time I'm in the neighborhood. I think they opened just before the covid lockdown so I think the neighborhood should give them a shot for a bit cause there's been some notoriously terrible sit down Mexican spots at this price point. Frida decor everywhere, I'm down. It's bright, corner location, so ambience wise during a gorgeous day it's not a bad way to have a drink and some free chips and salsa (so far in my experience I've always gotten these replenished for free). read more

What a gem of a spot we stumbled upon on a Friday nite. The place is small but spacious as there are a few tables , a bar, and a common table in the middle to sit at. The staff is friendly and the service was impressive. The menu is on a qrcode and they have a great selection of food, from appetizers to nachos, burritos and tacos. We opted for the nachos with shredded chicken which were super flavorful and the Al Pastor Tacos which came with a generous amount of meat perfectly cooked and flavorful. As a New Yorker, I have not been spoiled for choice when it comes to *good* Mexican food, with an emphasis on good. I eye most Mexican meals with some level of trepidation lest my taste buds be let down. The menu at Friducha looked quite promising, with tacos, burritos, salads, fajitas, and even burgers galore. What I appreciated about this menu over those at other Mexican restaurants were the array of protein options, including skirt steak, carnitas, ground beef, shredded chicken, and shrimp. Vegetarians would have plenty to choose from as well, so I left with my to go order feeling optimistic. Both the fish taco and shrimp taco were flavorful and generous with the protein, which was both fresh and well prepared. I also enjoyed a picadita salad, with chopped kale, nopal, corn, tortilla chips and cotija cheese. I appreciated that the salad had plenty of crunch and texture to make it more interesting. While I was there I also enjoyed a couple of cocktails, including a cucumber margarita and a watermelon spicy tequila cocktail. Both were wonderful and sent me away with a nice buzz. Do Not Use Their Online Ordering System. The restaurant has their own online ordering system, but doesn't actually use it. So, if you're dumb enough to order through there, like we have twice (over the span of 6 months), you won't get food unless you call to tell them to check their own system. The food finally arrived 1h50 after ordering (and calling) - it's so much worse than it was years ago for both my wife and my order. She usually gets a poached egg over her meal for eggy sauce goodness - it came scrambled. My burrito, the chicken was overdone and sauce bland. Between dining in and delivery it's been 25+ times - no more. This was so terrible and sad that I came out of my yelp retirement to review. For starters, me and my partner got fresh chips and salsa. We ordered "Greenpoint fries" with grilled chicken. Warm deliciousness! Generous cheese, not too greasy. Grilled chicken was almost minced, and not diced like we thought it would be. They kind of held back on the pico. I asked our waiter for an extra side of onions and cilantro (personal choice) Barbacoa tacos were very juicy and packed with flavor. The side of green sauce is a good amount of heat to get a sweat going. (Luckily it was too hot for my partner, so more for me, hehehe) Same for the carnitas tacos we ordered. Not dry at all. All tacos served in double shells in case the fillings fall off in the first round you can make more! Lastly, for dessert we shared one order of Mexican churros. Absolutely delicious!! It was the most satisfying Mexican meal I've had in a long time. They have both indoor and outdoor dining with proper social distancing and appropriate Covid measures. They have brunch until 3PM, but we arrived a bit past it so we didn't get to try that. They provide complimentary chips and salsa, and it was one of the most amazing in-house chips I've had! Made our way over here on a Saturday afternoon for brunch. Was hit with a fifteen minute wait for an outdoor table for two, which wasn't too bad considering the time of day. Servers here are quick as they brought waters out immediately (even for the dog) as well as free chips & salsa. Between two people, split the Nachos w/Corn ($14), Veggie Tacos w/Spinach ($11), and a couple margaritas ($10 traditional, $11 flavored). Nachos are a heaping pile of tortilla chips, salsa, sour cream, guacamole, cheese, and corn. Probably could have done without the corn, as it took away from the nice salsa and guacamole. Some jalapenos would have helped as well. Tacos are three to an order, double wrapped soft tortillas surrounding the spinach, tomatoes, cilantro, and onions. The spinach is oddly drenched in oil, which soaked through both tortillas. The side sauce and lemon helped, but it was hard to finish. Service here is solid as we didn't wait long for anything. I live near 4 authentic mexican places where they can barely take your order in english so im basing food quality off of that. Honest opinion, sauce on spicy shrimp quesadilla is dope, crazy cheesy (not mexican white cheese) but the yellow one too. The shrimp tasted like they were thawed out and cooked too fast. The enchiladas again lots of cheese which normally im like yasssss but if you have good core ingredients you dont actually want it to drown out the experience. The steak was not the fancy skirt steak i envisioned just basic steak chunks that were at times hard to cut. The chorizo crumbles were as expected. The portion of pico de gallo, sour cream and guac in top of the rice and beans was minimal. The guac was not fresh and was a bit mush/runny. I wouldnt go out of my way to come back here. My friend and i dont drink alcohol so maybe people think this is some amazing drunk food with margaritas. Service was great. Horchata was delicious. Got the birria tacos because, well, this is the only choice for me if it's available on the menu since discovering them around a year ago. The tacos were good, not the best I've had, I'd say they ranked number 3/4 out of the 6 birria places I've tried. 4 stars there. The reason I had to take a star off is because they don't let you mix up the tacos? I mean, anytime you have to just get multiple of one kind of taco at a place and can't sample the flavors that's an automatic bump down for me. What a great find! I was in the mood for Mexican food and this place hit the spot. From the moment my buddy and I walked on the door we were greeted by the bartender Natalie with a smile that lit up the whole restaurant. Unfortunately the chips were very greasy and the salsa had a sweetness that was very unpleasant. Minimal taste other than sweet. Would definitely have benefited from some heat. The table next to us was seated 10 minutes after we arrived and received their main courses before us, despite ordering well after our order was in. Our food arrived and the portions were hearty. One of our party ordered the vegetable fajitas. It was cooked and seasoned well, just simply way too much food for one person to eat and not necessarily something that would be good reheated. The rice was bland, but standard. The other person in our party ordered chicken tinga tacos. The chicken was over cooked, the green salsa was a bit redeeming.
