I enjoyed Casa Azul. The decor was really cute and chic. If you like pics for social median you can definitely catch some nice pics in there. It was a Sunday afternoon, and it wasn't crowded. We were seated upon entry. The host was also our table help and she was really sweet. I appreciated that she let me sample Mole before I ordered it. I think I basically made up my own meal and they accomplished it. Lol. It wasn't on the menu but I told them what I felt for and they hooked me up. The Guacamole was good! My coworkers and I came here for a dinner and we arrived about half an hour before happy hour ended. The place itself is so pretty - a decent amount of seating but would recommend making a reservation if you do have a larger group. They do have a happy hour menu which I think is pretty worth it for the drinks but for the food it is only mildly cheaper. The staff was super friendly and took our orders super quickly. I decided to get the: -Chips and Gauc: The gauc was so fresh and flavorful. I've been here twice, once for brunch and once for a friend's birthday dinner. Both times, the food, drinks, service, and ambiance were excellent. For dinner I ordered the grain salad and it was delicious and filling, especially for a salad. For brunch, we got an array of brunch cocktails, all of which were unique and enjoyable -- but I'd recommend skipping the espresso martini, which was a bit watery. All of their other drinks infuse Mexican flavors and are much better anyway. For food, we got guacamole, the fried fish sandwich, and the pork tacos. The pork tacos were good but the fried fish was excellent. It also came with fries which had a rosemary seasoning and were surprisingly great. The guacamole and chips were a little salty for us, but you could shake enough salt off the chips to solve for it. For dinner, our servers accommodated a large dinner party with no issues and quick/friendly service. For brunch, our server was very helpful with drink recommendations and ensuring our party's food allergy was handled without any issue. The ambiance of the place is festive Mexican and it has nice outdoor seating as it gets nicer out. Would definitely recommend this place for some of the best Mexican food in park slope! read more

What a lovely experience. I have been so excited to have Oaxacan cuisine - my mother is from Mexico and I grew up on her Mexico City style cooking + spent much of my childhood in Mexico City, but Oaxaca is one of my absolute favorite places to travel to outside of CDMX and their food is up at the top of my list. So I was pumped to suggest Casa Azul for my friend's birthday this last week. We started with the queso fundido, which was very tasty and came with hot and fresh tortillas on the side. I also ordered the hibiscus cocktail which was so tasty, and we shared guacamole that was very good. For a main, we split the tlayuda which was excellent - the meat inside came absolutely perfect marinated and cooked to a medium rare - I was honestly impressed that they even asked how we wanted the steak cooked. The tlayuda was very tasty, although I was a little confused that it was folded as I'm used it it in Oaxaca being more like a flatbread or a pizza. Regardless, I won't knock points down because it tasted great. The decor is super cute inside, although we sat outside and the seats have heating - it's decent heating but probably wouldn't go if it was a super cold day (good enough heaters for 40+ weather but not lower IMO). Sheeshhhh! If you make it for happy hour make sure you order the elote, if you don't. Sucks to be you ‍. I can't rave more about this place, most of the time the price of the food just does not live up to the expectations of the actual taste for your palette, that being said this place was a home run! Wow, the fish tacos, fuhgetaboudit! Dish of the night in my opinion goes to the carne asada. The veggies were cooked just right to give that skirt steak a beautiful kick with a sauce for the steak that was not completely necessary but wow, it's got a nice heat and tangy taste, highly recommend. I got the mole chicken, the roasted cauliflower was a beautiful touch to this sweet and savory concoction. The cocktails were great, the staff was phenomenal, please don't ever change. I can't speak on the guac i didn't try it my friends did but that plate had no green on it (which probably means fingers were involved in the process of the munch down!) the quesadilla had a homemade tortilla which was nicely toasted yet maintained the texture of the inside components beautifully. A late lunch 3pm on a Thursday afternoon. This building previously housed Talde restaurant which closed early 2019. Inside nothing has physically changed except everything is now painted blue. Casa Azul has a limited menu which may be off putting to some people but a restaurant can have a limited menu when everything is exceptional which most items here are. Everything is prepared fresh and from scratch. There's a full bar and a list of special cocktails. Hubby had a Hot Toddy and loved it so much he didn't share a sip with me. Sad face. We three shared the delicious fresh guacamole and chips as an app which could have easily been shared among four. The waitress/hostess forgot our melted cheese app which she graciously brought us later "on her" which she didn't have to cause we could have skipped this app since we were almost full from the guacamole. Our meals were the fish (pescado) tacos, Excellent hot crispy fried cod fish with some slaw and crema on fresh corn tortillas. Definitely would order again in a heart beat. The food Portion of the menu was small, not a lot of options, but the drink menu is multiple pages long. The place played Spanish music the whole time, salsa and reggaeton. No complains. Had dinner at Casa Azul on Sunday night. Other than a lackluster margarita, I thought my meal was very good. A few more tortillas and some salsa from the start would be my only food suggestions. Quality: Started my meal with a Margarita De La Casa, which was not my favorite. Usually I hold out hope that the house version is the best, don't think that is the case here. The Guacamole + Totopos was simple, but delicious. The Queso Fundido was a great appetizer, appreciated the mushrooms and peppers included in the dish. The Tacos De Pescado are the highlight dish, they may not look exciting, but incredibly flavorful. The Barbacoa Adobada was delicious as well, a very rich sauce with the lamb. As someone who rarely steps out of Manhattan to explore Brooklyn, I can say that Casa Azul was definitely worth the trip. I always struggle to find yummy, authentic Mexican food in the city, but this place checked all the boxes. Service was prompt. We were seated quickly outdoors on a Saturday for dinner. Food and drinks came out quickly. The inside of the restaurant was tastefully decorated. It's nice to sit in and absorb the blue. They receive three stars because their food and drinks are less than ordinary. Both the branzino and flautas de pollo tasted like it came from the freezer section of the supermarket. They lacked flavor, chicken was dry, fish was colorful but did not taste like anything and did not have a fresh texture. The Sauvignon blanc lacked flavor. I forgot which cocktail we had but it was watered down and didn't taste like it was "crafted" but rather ingredients thrown together. I really do hope the food and drinks improve because everything else was well done. Staff were extra nice and respectful. Food plated presentably. So I was actually headed to another spot to eat and decided to stop here instead because something intrigued me about the look of it. I ended up liking it so much that I ended up going two days in a row. The first day I came I had flautas de pollo and the fish tacos. The second day I had the chicken enchiladas and the tres leche for dessert. The fact that I came here two days in a row says it all but yes the food was great and the service is extremely welcoming and friendly which I appreciate. I love the authenticity of the dishes and the decor in the restaurant. Would I come back a 3rd time? Absolutely! Side Note: This place has both indoor and outdoor seating. I actually have never seen a restaurant with so much outdoor seating before. They dominate more than half of the block and they also have outdoor seating on the side street. I was at this beautiful Mexican restaurant on a Saturday night. After three minutes, my group of four at the time was seated. Fortunately, they have radiators indoors because it was really cold last night! Our group was sitting though we were waiting for three others as they were searching for parking. Just a warning parking could be difficult to find around this area. The staff was very hospitable and friendly. We got chips and guacamole for starters. Guac was super delicious and fresh as well. They have a large selection of alcoholic beverages and non-alcoholic beverages. I had a Mocktail, I forgot the name but our waitress recommended it since I asked for a booze-free drink. It had pineapple and cucumber. A delightful mixture! The waitress also recommended that salmon since I was stuck between two options. It was delicious. Asked for it medium well. Our waitress was super attentive, and regularly checked up on us. Everyone in my group was satisfied with service, food and the atmosphere. Which resulted in us getting shots, by the bar, as we proceeded to leave! I had the great good fortune to visit Oaxaca this spring, so when the construction in the old Talde space began advertising a modem Oaxacan cuisine, I could not have been more excited. And the early experience was well worth the excitement and the wait. For starters, we tried the trio of Oaxacan salsa--verde, morita and habanero--all tasty and authentic--the smoky morita was a particular favorite. Lovely presentation of the contrasting colored salsas. Watch that habanero, it is spicy! There was no way I was not trying the Mole Oaxacana, and it delivered. The mole had that deep, rich, unctuous umami flavor that a great mole should. Chicken was nice and juicy, and I loved the non-traditional broccoli rabe side, which was fun with a hint of mole. White rice side was a bit boring though, would have loved a twist on it, or something completely different. My friend had the chicken tacos, which were a nice size and well garnished with cilantro and pico. The taco chicken was a tiny bit over cooked/dry though. FYI, Currently waiting for a liquor license; they are happy to let you BYOB for now, and will provide ice buckets for wine, etc. They have a nice, spacious bar area ready for when that license comes through. Friendly and comfortable environment (if you knew Talde, same layout, but with the predominant blue and Mexican decor), and service was wonderful for any restaurant, much less a new one you would expect to be working out the kinks. Lourdes was a charming hostess, offering great suggestions, and Rabi a friendly, attentive waiter, particularly as I waited for friends alone.
