We started with the guacamole and chips and I got the octopus and chorizo tacos because I've never seen something like that in other Mexican restaurants. I got the carnitas tacos and the meat was quite dry. The check took over 20 minutes to come from when we asked the waiter for it. The restaurant seemed understaffed, and I saw the waiters sitting eating dinner at 10:30 while we were still waiting for someone to get our check. Oooooh boy, is this place great! This restaurant features some of the best Mexican food in Brooklyn. Everything is super savory. My go-to is the enchiladas verde. Solid Guac and chips as well! I had a great experience here! I liked the nice atmosphere, which was lively without being too loud. We started with the guacamole, which was great. It came with a unique salsa and homemade corn chips. I ordered the Chile Relleno Vegetariano for my main, which is a vegetarian stuffed pepper. It looked small at first, but ended up being the perfect portion in combination with the chips & guacamole. It was delicious! The ingredients melded so well together and I especially liked that the pumpkin seeds provided a good crunch to the dish. One of my friends really liked her tacos, but my friend who ordered the chicken enchiladas verdes said that while the flavor was good, the dish was a bit dry. We decided that is our last time here. We have been coming for a year and were loving it initially but the food is getting worse each time we are here. Today was the bottom. The fish tacos we got were the worst we got here. And one of them had a very bad smell. We told the waiter just to inform and all we got was 'ah sorry'. Like it was expected after paying $14 for a spoon size of guac and $18 for 3 sad looking tacos. The drinks are missing tequila as well. Very sad to give up on our fav Williamsburg mexican place but we gave them 3 shots. Thinking maybe 'they were having a bad day' or 'maybe it was us' but It only got worse each time. What can I complain about this restaurant? My personally favorite thing to eat here looks like none of them. My husband loves here because they have steak and eggs for breakfast. I'm in other hand. I already tried grilled fish, ceviche shrimp or other dishes. None is my cup of tea, honestly. Today I order Nopal Asado; it is grilled cactus top with Oaxacan cheese and rajas con crema. This place is absolutely incredible! The experience from start to finish was amazinggggg. We went for my friend's birthday and they sat us immediately when we got there. The space is so stunning how they have it setup. The decor is funky and the vibes are just so good. The music had us dancing all night long! We got drinks and they were affordable and so delicious. We then went into the appetizers where we got the esquites and guacamole. They were both so fresh and tasty. We then went into our mains and the portions were so good for the price. I got the chicken mole and it was so velvety. It paired perfectly with the sauces they give for the tacos so pro tip: make sure you ask for them on the sides! Fish tacos was mediocre and lacked flavor. Enchiladas Rojas was not spicy at all despite stating so in the menu. Keep in mind I'm an ethnic person. One star only solely for b***s*** attitude of the staff here. We were a group of 7 people who went there for dinner and literally gave them business of $650 plus with 25 pct mandatory service fees. This forced tipping is called entitlement when you demand it for serving loads of attitude on a plate. In the beginning the service was decent but as the night progressed and our orders increased, the attitude of our server became negative and rude. You might wonder post pandemic the restaurants would become more welcoming and like bigger orders, but sadly there is no cure for bad behavior. At the end of our night, we wanted to order few more glasses of wine, to our shock we were told we can't order more than two as the kitchen was almost closing. We heard the other server saying- tell them we can only serve two. Some strategic decision I'm sure Seriously with 50 mins to go for closing, what's the logic with then offering us two glasses of wine in place of four.... Genius!!! The two shittiest glasses were served with the stalest wine possible. We left it without finishing it with bad taste in our mouth even worse impression in our head. I love this place! Cozy space. Drinks are fantastic. Not just sugar and juice with a little tequila-real drinks. The menu is fabulous. Everything is always fresh and delicious. I go every time that I'm in Brooklyn, every 3 months or so. It's become a thing for my family and friends to do. Also, they have a waiter that everyone loves. Went here with my friend on a Tuesday night. The service was very nice and friendly and we were seated promptly without a reservation. I ordered the tacos Dorado and my friend ordered the sopa azteca(chicken tortilla soup). We also ordered guacamole to start. The guacamole in our opinion was creamy but missing some seasoning and a little spice. Maybe this is the way this region of Mexico makes the guacamole? Also their chips are a bit harder than your normal tortilla chip. They also served us 3 types of salsa my favorite being the Verde and my friend loved the habanero. On to the mains, I enjoyed the tacos Dorado, the chicken was moist, the salsa it was in was flavorful and I was happy. My friend also loved his soup and would order it again. Where do I begin! The food was DELICIOUS, the guacamole was flavorful and done just right (perfect amount of salt, acidity, onions). I got the Pulpo y chorizo tacos and I wishhhhh I had more. I heard no complaints around the table other than we were still hungry and wanted more. The place works well for groups, I saw another group (other than ours) and the place seated everyone and functioned well. Staff was friendly. Another pro was that the bathroom was clean and well decorated. Only thing I'd say is that the margaritas don't really taste like anything but tequila. The mango and watermelon margaritas tasted the same and the only way to tell them apart was by its colored appearance. Also, I'd probably skip out on dessert over here. They were no good. For starters we ordered chips and guacamole, the cucumber margarita, and my friend had the hibiscus spicy margarita. The cucumber margarita.. meh just alright and the hibiscus spicy margarita was VERY spicy but pretty good. The guacamole though.... they should be embarrassed to be serving it the way they are. WHERES THE FLAVOR !! Literally just mashed up avocado with nothing much else in it. I asked our server if we could get jalapenos or something to give it some spice or flavor and she said they couldn't do that. Our server also seemed a little new because she didn't seem to know the menu very well when we had questions when ordering. We finished our first margarita before our food came out and were never asked again if we wanted another. Our food was brought out by someone else and not our server. We later hunted someone else down to get in another drink order. For the food my friend got the steak plate, it came with mole, beans and cactus. He said he loved it and honestly looked amazing. I got the de cochinita pibil tacos and WOW OMG they were delicious !!!! *CHEFS KISS* I also had the octopus ceviche and it was VERY good as well. If you like seafood then definitely get. If you're craving a yummy taco packed with flavor then get these same ones as well. All in all aside from the guacamole the food was delicious. He noticed the one corn tortilla left in our basket before we did, offered me another Reposado as I placed my glass down from taking a final sip of my first, and innocuously removed what wasn't needed from our table top as our conversation seamlessly continued. Must try dishes are the Hongos y Huitlacoche Tacos and the Ceviche de Pulpo; however, Chef Ivan's Pollo con Mole Poblano is EPIC! So I'm a dessert first type of guy ( get that palate going) and we ordered the Tres Leches and Churros. Honestly the Tres Leches was just okay ( the fruit base is a turn off). Now to GRAND PRIZE...the freaky next level coconut Churros served with Cajeta and Abuelita Chocolate. My mind was literally blown how fresh and delicious these suckers were. The drinks were also amazing. Top self margaritas, with a variety of flavors and we made sure we tried them all lol. My personal favs were the cucumber and watermelon. For dinner I indulged in the Enchiladas Rojas and I almost ate the plate. I also managed to fork a couple of plates lol. The braised lamb dish and Ceviche were also great. We were looking for a dinner place close to Brooklyn Steel before our show and found Mesa Cocyoacan. It's not a big restaurant, but they have some long tables and a bar area.
