Since I wrote my initial review of Wayne & Sons, thinks have changed dramatically - for the better. Seemingly after establishing a proof of concept in Manhattan, they've moved to Williamsburg in Brooklyn. It's a bit further from the G and L than I'd prefer (especially if the weather is bad) but the journey from the subway is well worth it. The biggest upgrade at the new location is size: the new Texas-sized space might genuinely be ten times the size of the old Manhattan location. This makes it much easier to get a spot, with a sizable bar on the side away from the door and a dozen or so tables spread throughout the restaurant. It can still get cramped when they're busy but that's to be expected at any New York City restaurant. The decor of the restaurant is delightfully kitschy and every time I visit I see something new that's charmingly Texas. Service was already friendly in the smaller Manhattan space but it's only gotten better now they're able to squeeze more than a couple of employees in the space. Honestly they might have some of the friendliest service in New York City. Food and drink have improved as well. On the food front you've got all the old favorites and some new additions. My girlfriend and I agree that the chili fries are probably the best thing on the menu, with the Texquites and crunchy taco also being fantastic. The drinks have also improved, with the Strong As Buck drinks (limit 1!) making the hop across the East River and multiple frozen drinks joining the menu (I don't think those weee there before but the Texas Tea may have clouded my memory). Also need to shout out the house-made hot sauce, with the red being both very hot and very flavorful. It's a fantastic TexMex restaurant and if they had fajitas it would be perfect. Wayne & Sons 2.0 had a difficult challenge in being better than the original. They did it effortlessly. read more

Solid (and interesting) Tex Mex, so long as you avoid during any kind of World Cup or World Series or NBA finals event. Very strong cooking, very good and very strong margaritas too. Friendly staff. A not to be missed for locals in the area. read more

I've been wanting to check out this new ATX-style Tex-Mex bar and taco joint since they opened. It's located in the old Miss Favela space and is a sort of spiritual successor, carrying on the same laid-back vibe and ambiance. Unfortunately we came during a heat wave, and if there is any AC inside, we didn't feel it. But the vibes were good, and we enjoyed the happy hour cocktails and chips with refried beans. The mushroom tacos were really, really good, with a nice smokiness that's difficult to achieve. I wish it came served on a soft tortilla, as hard taco shells are not really my thing. Overall, a fun addition to the neighborhood! read more

I ate here with some friends on a whim, and it was good! We got seated immediately. We went on a very hot day, and there was no air conditioning, which I know is typical for NYC so it was fine. The service was friendly and quick! I wasn't very hungry, so I only got the mushroom taco, but it was delicious! We also shared the chips and queso. I don't normally order queso, but this queso was seasoned well and the chips were also flavorful. Overall, this was a great place to eat with friends! Delicious! Went for the first time Saturday night. It's a small place with 6 tables outside. Looked like maybe there's a small bar inside you can also sit at. There was a short wait so left my phone number, took a walk around the block and we went got back, I received a text message. We started with the Dips & Textopos, I discovered I really like refried beans! All three dips were very good. The frozen marg with a prickly pair floater was a refreshing cocktail. We ordered two Crunchy Tacos, omg, so good! I had a king Ranch, my husband had the Asado, which he said was very good. He also ordered the burrito which was perfectly put together. I had a bite, it was tasty. We were still kind of hungry and we weren't sure ordering two more Crunchy's was going to be a good idea but we did it anyway because we both loved them. Talk about an absolute hidden gem, I can't believe it took me until tonight to eat here. To start, the staff was super friendly and personable, and gave great menu recommendations as well. The food came out fast, and MAN was it tasty. The chili armadillo fries were packed with flavor and the take on the crunch wrap taco was equally as good. Super cute spot! Friendly owners! Great fresh and homemade food! We stumbled in during the pre launch and loved what we saw. Frozen margaritas are perfectly curated, just the right amount of frozen with quality fresh ingredients. More tart than sweet which is how I love it! Tequila is smooth. We also tried the chips/salsa/queso, king ranch soft taco and crunchy beef taco. All were great and any Texan in nyc will appreciate. After a week in NYC, I was seriously craving tacos. A coworker recommended Wayne and Sons, and I'm so glad I checked it out. It's a small, unassuming spot. You could easily walk right past it without realizing what a gem it is. This is definitely Tex-Mex cuisine, which was a real treat for someone from California. We tend to lean heavy on the "Mex" side, not so much the "Tex," so I really appreciate Tejano food when I can find it. I ordered a crunchy taco and an asado taco. Both came in hard shells and were absolutely delicious. The salsa verde was solid, but the salsa roja was mind-blowing. I immediately asked if they sell it, and the staff said they're working on bottling it. I can't wait. I also got the queso, which came with "Textopos." It's a clever play on words that took me a second to catch. The queso itself was rich and comforting, exactly what you want from a Tex-Mex spot. The staff was incredibly friendly and welcoming. They helped me order the right things and made the whole experience feel relaxed and personal. This is a unique and special place in NYC, and I'm really glad I stopped by. Literally stumbled on this place and almost left because we were looking for a bar, but we were convinced to stay by some other patrons. I was so happy to see this open on 2nd Ave near where I live. Surprised I hadn't heard of it but they don't deliver at all is why. Staff/kitchen/owners were the nicest but .. the tacos I got were the worst I've ever had. Deep fried greasy shells with oily meet covered in cheap baseball park nacho cheese. Literally 6 tablespoons of cheap oil poured out as we tried but could not eat. Great idea but epic food failure. What a fun place! Our server was a burst of sunshine from the minute we walked in. It's a small place so you will be rather cozy with your neighbors but it seemingly adds to the fun here. Food was so delicious and super fresh. That queso was really unique and paired with the chips that were dusted with paprika maybe. We tried almost all the tacos and everyone was seasoned perfectly and scrumptious. The pork was a real standout for me as was the mushroom. And the cherry on top was their homemade hot sauce.
