We were seated right away. However, the service was very slow. We started with the guacamole, which was very tasty and had jalapeños in it, which gave it a good kick. Then we got the street corn? Which was also very good. My daughter loved her quesadilla. She wasn't a fan of the yuca fries, but I thought they were delicious. My mom and I ordered the shrimp diavolo. My mom got it without the sauce. I didn't eat much of the sauce, but it was good, just spicy as expected. The rice it came with and the corn tortillas were a perfect pairing. My father and husband ordered the asada yucateca, which they both enjoyed but felt was cooked more rare than medium rare. My brother, who lives in Brooklyn and we were visiting, ordered the pollo en mole cassero. He liked it and noted it was spicy. The prices were reasonable and we loved that it wasn't so loud. On April 11th, I went in there excited to eat here and said "Hi! Table for four please". The restaurant was completely empty and there was only one staff member present who was a tall white bearded male. He must have not heard my "Hi". The waiter said "Hi? Hello? Good morning? Maybe let's start with that first" in a very rude way before grabbing menus to seat us. I was completely caught off guard, especially since I had already greeted him. Stopped by Casa Publica for a 8:30PM dinner on a Saturday and were pleasantly surprised to see that we were able to get seated immediately. It's a fairly large restaurant and I can see that it's a great place for larger groups (we saw two birthday celebrations here!). The staff were very friendly and we ended up ordering some chips and guac, margaritas and tacos. I got a spicy cucumber jalapeno margarita and an order of their pescado tacos. The margarita was refreshing, sort of like spa water with a little bit of spice. The fish tacos, however, was a tad disappointing. At $20 for two tacos, I had high expectations but the batter was too thick and I felt like I was eating more batter than fish. It was also drowning in too much mayo, which ended up being super tangy and overpowering. Overall, good drinks and very mid food so if I do come back, I'll just stick with drinks! read more

Maybe at like .. number 7 though. I will say the drinks weren't my favorite, everything was a smidge too sweet and 2 margaritas had me waking up with a swollen sugar hangover. Try and order something classic and clean instead to avoid this. The other thing i would take points off for - its expensive. Of course. Stopped in for a drink before dinner and had a drink at the bar! Adorable place. I had the agave gimlet which was perfect because I already had chosen gin as my liquor of choice for the night. I don't really like to mix so I appreciated that they had a gin cocktail. I have never had mezcal gin before and man, did I love it! We have a service animal and he asked for papers (which is illegal) and refused to seat us in the main dinning area. He put us in a back room where it was hot and stuffy. Between two people, split the Guacamole ($13), Enchiladas ($18), and a Margarita ($12 each). Margaritas come out first, strong pours that paired well with each dish. Guacamole is served in a large bowl, half filled with warm tortilla chips. Chunky texture; just enough spice and citrus. Enchiladas are served last - heavy on the cheese and sauce, but easy to eat overall without needing anything extra. Returned to Casa Pública on a mini neighborhood crawl. Realized they have an outstanding mezcal selection. They've got a mezcal list in slightly aiding the selection process. I tried a Sobol by Coyote, a mezcal by gracias a Dios, and another mezcal by la Luna. Keep an eye out for Gracias a Dios. We shared an order of tuna tostados. They were so good. I decided to sprinkle a bit of the seasoning that came with the mezcals to amp up the spiciness. I'd highly recommend the tostados. For dessert, we shared the flan. It was scrumptious! Service was friendly and attentive throughout. They have gender partitioned restrooms with a private toilet located inside both the mens and womens restrooms. read more

Casa Publica offered a pleasant experience. In my opinion, the menu was a bit small for my liking, however I believe it may have been reduced due to covid-19, for more ease of service. The food and drink were delicious, I had enchiladas and a margarita as pictured, but the service was a bit slow and confused at times. I asked a question about contact tracing and received an inadequate answer. Besides that, the outdoor seating area was very enjoyable, and the inside was cleared to make the bathrooms as accessible as possible. Went here for a Saturday brunch with a few friends. Great ambiance with tons of natural light, and located just outside of the heart of Williamsburg next to McCarren park. Food was fabulous, and the drinks did not disappoint. Try a spicy margarita or a Paloma with a Tajin salted rim for a refreshing afternoon pick me up. Absolutely do not skimp on trying the corn based pancakes with a mint and berry compote. As a group of 5 we split the pancakes for dessert and DEVOURED them. Warm and filling yet fresh from the mint and berries, it ended our brunch on a sweet note. Definitely more optimal for smaller parties (6 or less) who prefer to pay a la cart. Casa Publica is not your typical bottomless brunch spot in the city, but you get what you pay for. Portions are average sized, at about $15-$20 a plate, and are personalized (rather than family style). Service was excellent and appreciated that they did not rush us out. Went with a big group for brunch. We loved the ambiance- the music was great and so was the decor. Everyone we were with seemed to like their food. Some items we tried were chilaquiles with salsa verde, steak and eggs, our toddlers ate guacamole, scrambled eggs and yucca fries. Everything we tried was really good. My husband's family is from Mexico and we often avoid Mexican restaurants because they seem overpriced and lack authenticity.. but he really liked the food here. Casa Publica... your vibe was nice & you absolutely captured my heart by playing Bomba Estéreo. The latter being most important. We stopped in for a drink... I'm a gin drinker and saw a couple of different gin's on the shelf other than Hendricks & Brooklyn Gin. That made me rather curious and happy - I like exploring our gin community & different options that are out there. Saw a very cool bottle... Garcías a Dios, and wanted to give it a shot. So, I've experienced this once before - the gin flavor was smokey and reminiscent of a tequila, which is great, if you like that particular flavor. I however, do not. I had purchased a bottle of gin distilled at Wölffer Estates in the past, which was very similar - I wasn't expecting that flavor and was definitely not a fan. Just not my speed. Long story short, (and 100% my opinion), as an establishment, when you see a drink that has one sip taken out of it, ask questions and certainly do not charge for that drink if there's an honest explanation... which this was. The bartender asked, I explained and he proceeded to charge $13 for the gin and soda cocktail that had one sip taken from it. Not a good look in my eyes. With that, everything else was cool... food looked good, vibe was cool, etc., but unfortunately, that kind of rubbed me the wrong way.
