It was a Sunday afternoon and we made plans to go to brunch in Ridgewood. Flying Fox was not our first choice but it had been on our radar. We ended up here after our other brunch choice did not have a cook or bartender show up for work. After walking over we found that the bar had a buy out for a children's birthday party and would not be open for over an hour. I guess they must have a party package which could be great for any Halloween or spooky event. Hungry, thirsty and intrigued- We sought a meal elsewhere but decided to come back to experience the weird cocktail list. Ambience is on point with plenty of horror memorabilia, but it seems to have a bit of a family twist. The menu and cocktail listing is fun but the drinks are sort of small. The staff seems committed to the spot which is nice and service was attentive.

SUPER FUNSIE SPOT! I've been eyeing Flying Fox for a very long time. This Goth bar was making waves across Queens and I knew I had to get there ASAP. What better time than on my Intern Lauren's last day. One last adventure to close the year out. And I'm glad we did it here. Spots at the bar were found, and drink menus were given a glance. All of a sudden, a woman started speaking on a mic, and we realized we walked smack into a trivia night. I wasn't mad about it because it gave the spot a really fun atmosphere. Lauren and I chatted it up at the bar while enjoying the friendly competition amongst the patrons. Onto the drinks, which were really good. Lauren ordered off the traditional cocktail menu which had funky names like Nosferatu and The Count. Those were the two that she had and she enjoyed both of them immensely. The count even comes with a demonstration. I won't give away what it is, you'll have to go and see for yourself. I got the hot chocolate special and although it was delicious, it was missing a cream aspect to it. Nothing a shot of Bailey's couldn't fix. I was trying to find something else to drink after my hot chocolate. I still wanted chocolate, but I wasn't sure how to go about drinking something that wasn't the hot chocolate they featured. So when I talked to the friendly bartender about what I wanted, she ended up making me a really delicious chocolate martini, and was really gracious in making sure I liked it and that it wasn't too sweet. It was actually perfect. The menu looks pretty dope and they had a lot of gluten-free, vegan, and vegetarian options. Down to try some food here next time because there will be a next time very soon.

The Flying Fox Tavern in Ridgewood, Queens, is one of my favorite local haunts (no pun intended). Classic horror decor in this pub and restaurant. The owner, chef, servers and bartenders are so down to earth and fun. Goth and alternative folks in the neighborhood, welcome home. Everyone else, you'll also love it. The food is delicious. My personal favorites off of the menu is their brick chicken (although right now they're featuring jerk chicken). To drink, try the Nandor! I come here for their spooky horror markets, and I've also hosted get togethers of friends here. My kids love the food and ambiance, as well. So much so, that I rented the entire place for my 9-year-old's Monster Mash themed birthday party. I hope the Flying Fox is here for years to come!

The Flying Fox is a really great spooky themed bar that my friends and I frequent for their specialty cocktails. All the bar staff and servers are super friendly and really make the vibe even more inviting and fun. Love the theming of all the drinks as well as the bar area inside and outside (they have coffin shaped tables on their patio and a fun mural that really give the place a unique personality). I've tried the Count and several of their other special cocktails (their take on the hot toddy can't be missed) and everything has always been tasty and flavorful. This is a Ridgewood MUST visit!

I would recommend this spot for their unique drink options, especially if you're a looking for a low-key night out. Their aesthetic is cool and I have liked their service each time I've eaten here. I am a fan of most their cocktails, their burger entree is also delicious.

I vant to suck your blooddddd! No but really, our goth wait is finally over! We have been looking for a silver moon lining to this world and here it is. Flying Fox Tavern is the new gothic pub in Ridgewood that opened it's castle doors this Wednesday. Ridgewood is a locals neighborhood. People wanna go to an extension of their living room...in this case the coffin. There is a gothic theme to this bar with vintage horror movie posters (provided by the Phantom Creep himself) and incredible mural work by Shane Morton. You truly feel like you are in Dracula's castle when sitting on the south side of the bar. The menu is foodie-centric and fun. I've never had haggis in my life and they make a killer vegetarian version that is perfect for cold winter months. The starters, I would recommend the black bean dip with the beet chips. You can also never go wrong with the oysters, especially at happy hour prices. I am pescatarian so it was nice to have a fish option. I enjoyed the perfectly fried fish, with some slaw and a brioche bun and a side of greens. I will have to go the tofu route the next round. Since, they are still awaiting their liquor license the mocktails were on display. I like either herb and ginger mocktails but in this case the Nandor (named after popular character in "what we do in the shadows") was calling my name. Some chocolate and espresso was like an adult Frappuccino without all the sugar and dairy. I thought it was a perfect partner to the skull in a box, an ode to the film Se7en and it's tragic ending. I am a huge Black Forest cake gurl and it was perfection. It could not have been a better ENDing to our night. I will also have to mention the music made me miss the goth dancing! Hopefully we will be able to shake our tail tailfeathers here soon. Hot tip - check out the bathrooms! EYE DARE YA! I will be back for more fun sooner than later. Thanks Tracy and Chad for a lovely evening.

The decor, the music and the food was all incredible. The staff was super friendly. The drinks were amazing. I highly recommend checking it out. Especially if you're a fan of horror films.

First time having brunch here and Flying Fox does not disappoint with the brunch cocktails and food! We had the Elvira Bloody Mary and the Nosferatu espresso cocktail as well as the salmon benedict and stuffed french toast with apples. Such fresh, creative entrees and cocktails. Great bartender, Ellie, who always provides excellent service and conversation!

The atmosphere is great with a horror movie usually on the TV sets, though the sound might be down in favor of music. The staff are professional and friendly. The food is excellent. I often go for the happy hour oysters.

This was my second time dining here, and I thoroughly enjoyed it once again…read more After enjoying a delicious meal paired with a fantastic all-jazz performance, I'm already looking forward to coming back. I ordered the short ribs and the five-onion soup again, and both were excellent. The service was spot-on and impressively quick--my food arrived in under 15 minutes. The owner is also really cool; he personally greets guests and makes a point of chatting with the performers to ensure they're comfortable. This is a wonderfully romantic spot. The beautiful flowers add such a nice touch (as I mentioned in my previous review). While it's not fully upscale, it has an elevated, sophisticated vibe that makes you want to dress up for the occasion. Highly recommended!

Well, at least business was "Blooming" due to Mother's Day reservations…read more All jokes aside, I visited this restaurant yesterday for a Mother's Day brunch with a group of eight others. Our reservation had been confirmed the day before by both our host and the restaurant. When I arrived early, I was surprised to find the place jam-packed and clearly overcrowded. The front-of-house staff, along with the presumed owner, seemed overwhelmed and initially could not locate our 12:00 reservation. There were also guests with 11:30 and later reservations that were still waiting to be seated, along with several other groups scheduled around our time. After waiting nearly 50 minutes, talking with others who were also waiting, and watching two other tables be hastily set up and filled, we were finally seated. The table had been quickly wiped down and set with placemats, but it was missing silverware and several glasses. Most of this was resolved fairly quickly, though two people still never received glasses, with one person asking a few times for one. Our clearly overworked waitress brought us water and eventually took our order after a shorter additional wait. I ordered a $6 cappuccino, which was enjoyable, with a moderate amount of foam and a pleasantly bitter flavor without tasting over-roasted. However, another person's $4.50 iced coffee did not seem worth the price, as it appeared to be no more than a 12-ounce glass and was mostly filled with ice. Outside of coffee, the staff was understandably slow with water, with long waits, and we finally got a pitcher near the end of the meal. For my meal, I chose the $16 Poached Browns, which included two poached eggs, pulled pork, an English muffin, hollandaise sauce, and their Bloom hash. Many minutes later, and I mean many, the eggs were properly poached and were the highlight of the dish. The pulled pork, served without any additional sauce, was dry, and the small amount of hollandaise did little to help. The hash on the side lacked crispiness and vegetables, aside from what might have been a tiny piece of chopped yellow pepper. Overall, it was below average but passable. Two others ordered the Make Your Own Omelette for $19, which comes with a choice of three ingredients, the same hash, and bacon. They made two specific requests, both of which our waitress confirmed: first, that they did not want bacon, and second, that they could substitute fries for the hash--regular fries for one person and sweet potato fries for the other. Despite this, both plates arrived with bacon, as you can see in my first photo, where one of them transferred her bacon to my plate. The other person sent her plate back and ended up receiving her Mother's Day meal well after everyone else. The omelette also looked a bit more like a frittata, which I didn't mind. After waiting a while, including finally getting pitchers of water, we finally left after a long and annoying bunch. If this spot indeed had reservation issues, why on earth were they still allowing walk-ins? Why did they tell people it would take 15-20 minutes to seat when it would clearly take 30+? This entire experience was inept from beginning to end. The food this time is closer to a 2, but our experience as a whole was closer to a 1. I would never go back.

Cuisine: 8 Service: 7…read moreDecor: 7 Value: 7 Overall: 8 This is one of the hottest sandwich shops in all of NYC over the past couple of years. You see them on social media and every list for the best sandwiches. Every time I stopped by, I see a line, which hopefully means that they have developed a loyal following. I have now visited a handful of times, hence I feel confident enough to properly evaluate the restaurant. Here are my thoughts on some of their sandwiches. Dill Party (7.5/10) - This is one pf their most popular sandwiches and never leaves the menu. It's not my favorite, but it's a super solid choice. The dill flavor simply permeates through each bite of turkey and avocado. If I don't see my favorites on the menu, I wouldn't hesitate to order this sandwich. Fancy Bologna (7/10) - I love mortadella, but this sandwich does not hit high marks for me. I think it's the pepper spread that slightly distracts my taste buds from experiencing the delicate flavors. Chicky (8.5/10) - Rare hot sandwich on the menu. Everything works. I love the juicy ground chicken patty paired with creamy feta and smoked paprika mayo on a sesame seed bun. Charred onion and arugula are perfect additions too. Dr. Broccolini (8/10) - I added Spanish anchovies to this sandwich, which took it from good to fantastic. Never thought I would enjoy a mostly vegetarian sandwich, but this is one of my favorites here for its textural and flavor contrast. Fillet-y of Fishy (9.5/10) - One of the best things I ate in 2024. They need to have this sandwich more often. I have been dreaming about this nearly perfect fish sandwich for over 1.5 years now. Brown Butter Chocolate Chip Cookie (8/10) - Very good finish to the meal. Not overly sweet, with just enough touch of salt. Relatively crispy with a slightly gooey center. Pistachio Chocolate Cake (8.5/10) - Had this at the Queen's Together International Expo at the end of 2024. Couldn't get enough of this deliciously moist cake. Wish they make this product regularly. Rhubarb Custard Cake (7/10) - Not bad, but nothing special. The cake was moist and the custard was light and creamy, but the rhubarb didn't have any impact. Yuzu Meringue Pie (8.5/10) - What a great graham cracker crust. For a meringue lover, it's like a key lime pie on steroids. Slightly sweet for me, but a wonderful slice of pie overall. Coconut Cream Pie (8/10) - Nice coconut flavor with a delicious custard. Fluffy whipped cream. Excellent pie crust. Quite enjoyed it. PB & J Cake (7/10) - Though the cake is moist, I found the peanut butter a bit light in flavor compared to the jelly. Not my favorite, but still good. As you can see, I appreciate most of the sandwiches and desserts that Salty Lunch Lady offers. However, I have to admit that the prices are slightly high for a relatively small sized sandwich. I guess it's the norm nowadays with all these fancy sandwich shops popping up in different parts of NYC. Besides, I'm part of the statistics after all.
